At the time of the fateful 1992 Constitutional Referendum White South Africans were told that only by voting "Yes" would South Africa be re-admitted into international sport (official international sport that is, for as we all know "rebel" international tours took place regularly in practically ever major sport). Unfortunately far too many Whites believed this nonsense and voted "Yes" for solely this reason - although those of us in the "No" camp argued that if the vote did go "Yes" then there would be no South African nation worthy of its name to compete for in a few years time!
Now, 17 years later, the reality which we predicted is clear for all to see. South Africa US
To be sure, it still looks as if South Africa United States
One of the main factors which has influenced the clear decline in South African sporting standards has been the insistence on racial quotas regardless of ability. The Left, of course, always objected to the fact that South African sport was strictly - though fairly - segregated during the days of civilised rule. Their total hypocrisy in now insisting upon racial quotas is therefore breathtaking! We wonder also what those idiots who voted "Yes" in 1992 purely in order to enable South Africa to re-enter international sport are now thinking when their sons and daughters are not able to represent the "new" South Africa solely because they are White?
But there has been one recent particularly worrying development concerning South African sport, namely the production of a Hollywood film entitled "Invictus" which purports to be about the 1995 Rugby World Cup won by South Africa

SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC UDI DAY BUFFET
The Springbok Club/ELC held a most happy and successful buffet in order to celebrate UDI Day last month. The guest speaker was Mr. Mark Pilbeam, the Chairman of the UK Branch of the RLI Regimental Association. Mr. Pilbeam gave a riveting and highly informative talk about his own experiences during the Rhodesian Bush War, which he illustrated with an excellent PowerPoint display of illuminating pictures from the era. He was also able to tell something about the foundation and work of the RLI Regimental Association, particularly their involvement with the safe relocation of he famous RLI Troopie Statue to Hatfield House. It was a revelation to learn how Mr. Pilbeam had been able to overcome the serious injury which he suffered fighting for Rhodesia

SPRINGBOK CLUB DAY OF THE VOW COMMEMORATION
The Springbok Club will shortly be holding their annual Day of the Vow commemoration, the details of which are as follows :-

Guest Speaker : Mr. MARK TAHA
Mark Taha is a well-known and highly-respected observer of Southern African affairs. He has been closely involved with a number of patriotic and pro-South African organisations over the years, stretching back to his keen membership of the Anglo-Rhodesian Society during the 1970s. More recently he has served on the National Committee of the 'Campaign for an Independent Britain'. Well informed and widely read on Southern African history and politics he will be speaking entirely in a personal capacity. The title of his address will be APOCALYPSE SOUTH AFRICA , in which he will examine the predictions made in several novels published at the time of the fall of Western rule in South Africa
N.B. In view of the unfortunately delay in finalising arrangements for this event, and the anticipated postal delays caused by he Christmas rush, it has been decided not to send out postal invitations for this meeting, but rather to rely upon e-mail and word-of-mouth communication. If you know of any friends and/or supporters who may not be on our e-mail circulation list then please try to inform them all of the details of this important event.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC EVENTS
The 2010 Springbok Club/ELC AGM will be held in January 2010, after which it is hoped to show a PowerPoint presentation featuring pictures of conditions in Durban
Later during 2010 the Springbok Club/ELC is planning a visit to Hatfield in order to pay respects at the RLI Troopie Statue there.
In April 2010 the Springbok Club will be celebrating Van Riebeeck's Day with a special braai, at which there will be appropriate musical entertainment.
In May 2010 the Springbok Club/Empire Loyalist Club will be celebrating Empire Day with a visit to the RE Museum in Gillingham , where special re-enactments will be taking place.
More precise details about all these activities will be detailed in future editions of the SCN.

The Swinton Circle UK Swinton Circle Gibraltar since that time. In particular he was able to relay how attempts by the UK Labour Government to compromise the position of Gibraltar in order to curry favour with Spain had been largely stymied, not only by the forthright resistance of the Gibraltarian people themselves and the masterstroke of Chief Minister Peter Caruana in calling a national referendum to confirm the Rock's constitutional position, but also by the massive popular support for Gibraltar which erupted in the UK at the time of some of the more devious sell-out attempts by the wretched Peter Hain. All in all a most encouraging address for all of us from Mr. Poggio.

LOOK OUT FOR SEALS
Readers will be familiar with the excellent work being done by Francois Hugo and the Seal Alert-SA organisation in protecting the well-being of seals around the coast of southern Africa . But it is not only in the waters around southern Africa where our fellow-mammals of the sea are at constant risk and danger. A supporter has recently informed us of an eye-opening web-site entitled "Look out for Seals" which highlights the dangers posed to seals in the waters around Scotland

LATEST FALKLANDS NEWS
We recently received the following most interesting and encouraging report from a pro-Falkland Islands circulation list :-
"The important Argentine website INFOBAE has just had two articles up about the arrival of the new Typhoon fighter jets in the Falklands . The first, based apparently on a report in The Sun newspaper, reports that Britain Islands with these planes and describing this as a provocation. The second article reports a spokesman for the British Embassy in Buenos Aires Falklands , that have reached the end of their useful life, and that this is therefore not a re-inforcement. The El Malvinense [sic] website carries a report similar to the first of these articles (with a photograph of a Tornado, not a Typhoon, to illustrate the newly arrived planes)."

WORLD CUP WILLIES
A recent issue of "Project 2010 - Preparing South Africa
"SAFA: Major concern over looming elections
"FIFA has expressed its concerns over the upcoming SAFA elections saying the national governing body has rejected its request to postpone the event until after the World Cup. And FIFA Secretary General Jerome Valcke this week issued a terse message - global football's governing body will not tolerate any disruptions to World Cup preparations. 2010 Local Organising Committee Chairman Irvin Khoza will challenge the group's Chief Executive Danny Jordaan for the South African Football Association presidency in two weeks time. FIFA is concerned that tensions over the post could jeopardise the final countdown to the tournament. 'If we have the feeling that the organisation of the World Cup is not under control anymore, we can take the lead in some of the organization,' Valcke said.
"Meanwhile, the elections have taken a new twist. Whoever wins the presidential race will have to vacate his position in the LOC. According to the agreement between FIFA and the LOC, no individual can hold two positions at the same time. The SABC reports that Valcke says although the election of the SAFA executive is an internal matter, there is a clause in the FIFA/SAFA agreement that the international footballing body will take over proceedings should they feel there are problems within SAFA. As Jordaan is involved in the day to day organisation of the 2010 World Cup, it could be disastrous if he wins the elections and he's forced to vacate his LOC position.
"Jordaan said the election should be postponed as per FIFA President Sepp Blatter's appeal, 'because the interests of the World Cup are paramount'. Asked whether he supported a postponement, Khoza said: 'It's not about Irvin, it's about Safa'. According to a report on the IOL site, SAFA's acting CEO Raymond Hack disagreed with Valke. 'I think that's totally incorrect. Yes, maybe in Dr Jordaan's case, because you cannot be the president and an employee of the association. Corporate governance doesn't allow such a thing. Dr Khoza is the chairman of the LOC, you can be president and the chairman, it's not a paid position, it's an elected position.'"

THE GREAT DEBATE
The editor of the SCN, in his position as Organiser/Secretary of the Springbok Club/ELC, was invited to speak in a debate staged by the Durham Union Society (Durham University England Africa 's problems are Empire's fault".
This event turned out to highly significant, and confirmed the increasingly powerful profile that the Springbok Club/ELC has obtained on the national stage. The Committee of the Durham Union Society unquestionably deserve the highest of praises for organising such a professional event, which commenced with a succulent dinner and then proceeded to the debating chamber where an audience of over 200 students had gathered.
There proved to be both good and bad aspects to this debate. We will commence with the bad. The person asked to second the opposition to the motion was Mr. Albert Weidemann, who of course has spoken at Springbok Club meetings twice in the past, and who had given every indication of being supportive of the organisation's basic aims and objectives. After the two Left-wing proposers of the motion (one an academic who looked as if he was about a million years old, and the other a ZANU-PF sycophant) had moved and seconded the motion, with the Springbok Club's Organiser/Secretary's opposition speech sandwiched in between, it was Weidemann's turn to second the opposition. What transpired, however, was a complete shock to everyone, for he started off talking about matters which had nothing whatsoever to do with the motion, and then towards the end of his speech more or less came out in support of the motion! Of course if these really were Weidemann's views then all well and good - everyone after all is entitled to their opinions. Likewise, if he has recently altered his views (which certainly appears to have been the case) then similarly there could be no objection, as again everyone is entitled to change their minds. What CANNOT be forgiven, however, is for somebody to agree to speak on one side of a debate and then to do the exact opposite. If he had changed his opinions since accepting the invitation then the only honourable thing to have done was to tell the President of the Union of this fact and to pull out, so that an alternative speaker opposing the motion could have been found. It was not only the Springbok Club's Organiser/Secretary who he let down and betrayed in this regard of course, but all of the students who attended this debate, who all came - including those who supported the motion - expecting a balanced 2 against 2 debate, not 3 against 1! The other disappointment was that the motion was carried (perhaps not surprising as it turned out to be a 3 against 1 ambush!) - though only by acclamation, and many in attendance believe that it was only the volume of "yeas" which carried the motion, and that the actual count was in reality very close.
The more positive aspects of this debate were far more important however. In gatherings after the debate, both in the debating chamber itself and at the student bar afterwards, the Springbok Club's Organiser/Secretary was dumbfounded and uplifted by the extent and forcefulness of support which he received from students who attended the debates (many specifically expressing sorrow at the way that he'd been ambushed by Weidemann), and it seemed clear that most of the leading members of he Union fully subscribed to his arguments regarding the virtues of the British (and other European) Empires in Africa. The following day a get-together was arranged for supporters of the Springbok Club/ELC in County Durham

Although we have serious issues with Mr.Delderfield for the manner in which he's seemingly betrayed our friendship in order to suck up to sinister elements who are in conflict with our movement, the fact remains that the ideological position of his New Britain party is far closer to our own ideals than that of most other political parties, and he has obtained many significant achievements in the past. The recent actions of Mr.Delderfield - who is now well into his 80s - are more tragic than reason to condemn. Ed.]

My mother always said building the channel tunnel was a great mistake, because Britain's strength was always that it was an island, and the 22 miles of water across the English Channel was its greatest defence, in fact protected it from invasion in both WW1 and WW2, unlike the rest of Europe where all countries have endured centuries of being overrun by enemies and having incursions across borders. Now the channel tunnel is a major way for illegal immigrants, the modern invaders, to enter the country.

He was surprised at how pro-British some of the people he found were - and his kids hated the place as there were no MacDonalds.

OBITUARY
It was with great sadness that we recently learnt of the death of Gayle Hoenig. Gayle was a great animal welfare activist from Colorado in the United States, but her activism for the well-being of animals around the world led her to realise that many of the current regimes in Africa - particularly the ZANU-PF regime in Zimbabwe - were not only detrimental to animal rights, but were also uncaring towards human beings of all races within their borders - and Gayle was not afraid to say this. Gayle, a relatively young and beautiful woman (her mother is still alive) suffered a serious stroke earlier this year, but seemed to be making a good recovery. This of course makes the news of her death even more distressing. She must not be forgotten, and her work continued.
