July 2001 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

July 2001 edition

The recent few weeks has seen an upsurge of violence and mindless hooliganism in the UK, specifically in certain Northern industrial cities and at one-day cricket internationals involving Pakistan.

There has been one common factor in all these outbreaks of primeval violence that few have dared to emphasise - namely that the troubles have invariably featured Muslim Asians currently resident in the UK.
Note that we specifically state MUSLIM Asians. It is significant that many prominent Hindus living in the UK have been so embarrassed by these incidents that they have asked in future always to be referred to as Indians rather than Asians  -  and in spite of their keen interest in the game of cricket and natural boisterous high-spirits there has never been any such trouble from West Indians at cricket matches in the UK.

At the same time the ICC Trophy tournament has been taking place in Toronto, Canada, with the leading three nations (and at the time of writing we are hoping that they will prove to be Ireland, the Netherlands and Scotland!) qualifying for the finals of the 2003 Cricket World Cup  -  which is still due to take place in South Africa.

South Africa, as all our readers will of course know, is now the "crime capital of the world". Law and order has broken down completely (and predictably) under the current terrorist regime, and no-one is safe from mindless criminal violence. More specifically, however, militant Muslim terror is on the upsurge in the Western Cape. Nobody  -  no matter what colour  -  is safe.

To think about holding any major world sporting tournament  -  least of all such a large and high-profile competition as the Cricket World Cup  -  in such a a lawless society is madness in the extreme. We need only to recall how two (ironically) Pakistani cricketers were mugged in Sandton a couple of years ago, the murder of a previous touring British supporter, and the armed hold-up at a recent Cape Town boxing tournament, to realise that both players and spectators are at serious risk if this competition goes ahead in South Africa.

We therefore call upon the ICC to take steps immediately to move the 2003 World Cup from South Africa to some other part of the globe where the safety of both players and spectators can be assured  -  and not to re-schedule the tournament to South Africa until civilised rule has been restored there.

SPRINGBOK CLUB JUNE MEETING

The Springbok Club was most honoured to welcome Mr. John Redfern, the Honorary National Secretary of the "Flame Lily Foundation" (an organisation of ex-Rhodesians living in South Africa), as guest speaker in June.

In a most informative and enthralling address Mr. Redern described the problems which befell Rhodesians following the fall of their country in 1979 (although, of course, they were never defeated on the battleground), and the difficulties which many of them experienced when they were left with no alternative but to move to South Africa. He then went on to describe how the "Flame Lily Foundation" came into existence, and the work which they were doing not only for the welfare of elderly and disabled Rhodesians, but also in keeping the Rhodesian ideal alive.

In this regard it was particularly encouraging to hear about the celebrations staged in 1990 to mark the 100th anniversary of the foundation of Rhodesia, and in 1999 to mark the 80th birthday of Ian Douglas Smith. The work and success of the "Flame Lily Foundation" is certainly an inspiration to all of us who share the same ideals around the world.

We are extremely grateful to John Redfern for addressing us therefore, and wish the "Flame Lily Foundation" every success in the days ahead.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB EVENTS

The Springbok Club will not be staging any national events over the next few months, but instead will be concentrating upon branch development.

On Sunday 15th July the Kent Branch will be staging a "pub evening" at "Scruffy Duck's", William Street, Herne Bay. This event is being planned by SC committee member Tony Waller and Kent Branch organiser Colin Lucas, and it is hoped that supporters not only from Kent but also from London will be able to attend. The gathering will be staged from approximately 17.00 hrs onwards, and if the weather is fine will take place in the outdoors beer garden. If you have any difficulty recognising anyone just look out for the Springbok Rugby jerseys!

On Saturday 28th July the Hampshire Branch will be holding an "open meeting" at the Dolphin Hotel, High Street, Southampton, commencing at 18.00 hrs. This event is being organised by SC Chairman Peter Fisher with the assistance of Ted Davey and Rob Burnett, who will give a brief outline of his planned Southern African-orientated film projects. Peter Fisher will also be delivering a most interesting report from Southern Africa.

In August SC Treasurer David Williams and Mike Woodbridge will be holding a formation meeting of the Chilterns Branch of the SC at a pub near Chesham, where they hope to be able to welcome a special guest of honour well known to many supporters. Fuller details will of course be given in next month's SCN.

Over the weekend of 21st/23rd September we will be staging a "Lincolnshire weekend" at a village in South Lincolnshire, and hope that we may be able to form a Lincolnshire Branch as a result. Fuller details will again be given in future editions of the SCN.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE

Unfortunately the intended guest speaker at the London Swinton Circle's recent summer buffet, Michael Gove, withdrew at the last minute. As a replacement guest speaker they were most fortunate to be able to welcome Prof. David Marsland, the eminent Thatcherite academic from Brunel University, well-known for his TV appearances. Prof. Marsland gave a riveting address, outlining many of the problems being faced by Britain at the moment, but more optimistically suggesting many of the solutions. He also gave a good overview of the forthcoming Conservative Party leadership election, and answered a wide range of questions from the floor.

This event, which took place in the historic splendour of "Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese" in Fleet Street, was very well attended and was a great success. The London Swinton Circle furthermore intends to hold a further buffet function before the end of the year with another interesting guest speaker, so if you are interested in attending, or would like to learn more details about the organisation, please write to: The London Swinton Circle, c/o P.O.Box 29208, London SE8 3ZU.

NEW SPRINGBOK CLUB AUSTRALIAN CO-ORDINATOR

We are happy to be able to announce that Mr. Adrian Alexander from New South Wales has been appointed the Springbok Club's new Australian co-ordinator. He will be contacting members and supporters in Australia over the next few weeks, and hopefully a more formal structure of the organisation in Australia will gradually be established on a state-by-state basis.

Our former Australian co-ordinator, Nick Maine, requested to hand over the position simply because of his many other commitments in Australia, but will remain actively involved in the movement as our Queensland representative.

REQUEST FOR STORIES ABOUT AFRICAN ADVENTURES

Peter Ward from the United States has recently contacted us telling us about a new compendium of African adventure stories which he is producing, and asking whether anyone can help him by supplying accounts of their own experiences. He writes as follows:-

"I am in the process of compiling a book on the adventures, observations, people and events of Africa. This compendium not only celebrates the wild side of contemporary travel and culture - revealing the humorous, and at times touching stories of events and observations of this part of the world, but also contains a precious collection of stories which will raise eyebrows and touch on the issues that Africa today faces.

"This book is a collection of short stories by people who have spent time in Africa, and the purpose of this email is to invite your readers to contribute any such stories or articles regarding their adventures in Africa.

"All proceeds from this book will be donated to Raleigh International (www.raleigh.org.uk) an international based charity which develops young people through challenging and worthwhile community and environmental projects on expeditions around the world.

MESSAGE FROM ALBERT WEIDEMANN

As you will recall from last month's SCN, Albert Weidemann, the Deputy Chairman of the MDC's Manchester Branch, was involved in a rather nasty road traffic accident in London following a recent MDC protest demonstration outside Zimbabwe House.

We have recently managed to make contact with Albert, and he tells us that in spite of receiving a cracked bone in his hip and being in plaster for a while he is now making a rapid recovery from his injuries - and furthermore asks us to pass on his sincerest thanks to all those who sent him messages of best wishes. Needless to say we wish Albert continuing good fortune in making a speedy and complete recovery from all his injuries.

Albert also tells us that the MDC's president, Morgan Tsvangerai, recently made a successful visit to the UK, and that the party's structure in this country has recently been streamlined and placed on a more professional footing - and that he is therefore very optimistic for future successful progress.

"FREEBIES" WEB-SITE

This new "green" and environmentally friendly web-site, designed by ex-Rhodesian John Allman now based in York, is to help people re-cycle items which they no longer use or want. The idea is that others in your community will visit the site, see useful items, and claim them. No money changes hands, all transactions are free, although you have to make your own arrangements to collect the items you want. If you see something you want, just claim it. No mailings will be used for commercial purposes.

S.A.PATRIOT-IN-EXILE

Unfortunately, although it is now over 18 months since we were able to publish edition No.35 of "S.A.Patriot-in-Exile", and although we already have sufficient material to fill issue No.36, we still haven't been able to raise sufficient funds to publish this next edition. Apart from straight-forward donations there is another more specific method by which friends and supporters can help us in this regard.

During that vital period of South African history during the end of 1989 and the beginning of 1990 we managed to publish an in-depth analysis of the developing situation in the country called "Patriotic Press's South African Newsletter". Although we had to cease publication when we were forced to relocate operations to the UK, we have recently been able to re-issue the eight editions which we originally produced. Although this publication is of course no longer of any current relevance, it is even so still of great historical interest, and can be purchased for £20.00 (£10.00 for Full Members of the Springbok Club) for a complete set of all eight issues.

All payments and donations should be made payable to "Patriotic Press" (in Sterling) and sent to :  BCM SAPAT, London WC1N 3XX, U.K..

RECOMMENDED WEB-SITE

The Priora Forum is a new officially registered South African organisation with a seven-member management board and a team of legal advisors. Their stated aim is to call the present government to accountability regarding the unacceptable crime levels in South Africa. This will be done in a supportive way first of all, but if not satisfied with the reaction from government they will prepare a case to be submitted before the Constitutional Court. If all this fails then they intend to initiate a campaign to withhold taxes and to channel them into a trust account which will only become available to government once necessary steps have been taken to end the unacceptable crime levels. They also intend to obtain as much overseas publicity and backing as possible. As they say is their latest press release "The time has come to stand up for our rights under the constitution. Say 'NO' to crime, and say 'NO' to government."

WHO'S GOAL?

We have recently been forwarded a copy of a broadsheet entitled "Traditional Britain", evidently published by the "Western Goals Institute".

Although on the face of it this is a estimable publication and there is much in it which we agree with fully, we were however very disturbed by certain sections of an article entitled "National Identity".

After praising recent comments made by recently retired Conservative MP John Townend (and if ever anyone deserves praise for outspoken bravery it is John Townend), this article then goes on to make the astonishing claim that "... within twenty years Britain's capital city (London) will have a majority non-British population." No attempt whatsoever was made to justify this quite ridiculous claim. As a matter of fact the latest estimate for London's non-British population is only 15% - so how it can rise from this figure to over 50% in 20 short years defies all imagination. It has been estimated that within a few years 5 London boroughs (Brent, Hackney, Haringey, Lambeth and Tower Hamlets) could be majority non-White, but in a city of 32 boroughs  -  many of which have neglible non-White populations  -  this can no way represent the city as a whole.

This article then makes the even more ludicrous and unsubstantiated claim that the city of Leicester is already majority non-White. In fact the latest estimate (which can be confirmed by anyone visiting te city) is that the population of Leicester is only about 22% non-White - very bad and worrying enough of course, but a long way short of the 50% claimed. If further claims that the population of Birmingham is nearing 50% non-White, although in reality the percentage of non-Whites there is probably less than in London, and believed to be only just over 10%.

Of course we all know the reason why the liberal/left lobby wishes to exaggerate the numbers of non-Whites living in the country  -  to encourage defeatism amongst the indigenous population, to push their multi-cultural agenda and to make further immigration easier  -  but why should a publication claiming to be "Traditional British" also seek to spread despondency and defeatism by using these same false and exaggerated figures?

Unless ............
