SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER
December 2006 edition
As many readers will probably know, the Springbok Club has been obtaining considerable publicity in recent editions of the London-published South African expatriate freebee newspaper "South African" - in particular in relation to recognition of the real South African flag.
By all accounts this publicity resulted in the largest volume of reader-correspondence ever generated by an article in this newspaper, with the majority of reactions being largely in favour of the Springbok Club's stance. Of the fourteen letters subsequently published by "South African" as a result of this publicity nine were broadly in favour of the Springbok Club's allegiance to the real South African flag, with only five favouring the ANC-regime's "underpants" design.
Subsequent to all this publicity a huge number of real South African flags were clearly seen being flown by South African supporters at the recent autumn internationals at Twickenham between England and the Springboks (if the ANC-regime still permits the South African national team to be known by this historic term!), and it came to light that stocks of the real South African flag were being openly sold at Twickenham Railway Station. As a result of this the Springbok Club has been contacted by a number other South African publications who took note of this development and enquired whether the Springbok Club was behind these sales.
Alas we must report that the Springbok Club isn't currently in a financial position to be able to mount such a sales operation, but even so it appears that the organisation - even with its present limited resources - has still been able to "set the agenda" on the flag issue among the expat White South African community. As a result of this some unknown enterprising entrepreneurs have evidently spotted a large potential market - and good luck to them!
The Springbok Club has therefore proved to be in the forefront of the South African struggle "in exile". Already the Springbok Club has successfully managed to "set the agenda" on the flag issue, but other even more important matters lie ahead. 2007 therefore promises to be an even more significant year for all those who believe in the rights and destiny of the South African people. United we can and will prevail.

SPRINGBOK CLUB DAY OF THE VOW COMMEMORATIONS
The Springbok Club will once again be staging a function to mark the Day of the Vow this year, the details of which are as follows :-
Date : Saturday 16th December 2006
Times : Assemble from 13.30 hrs onwards, main activities to start at approximately 15.00 hrs.
Venue : THE CLARENCE (the upstairs "Drawing Room" bar), 4 Dover Street, Mayfair, London W1 (just off Piccadilly opposite the Ritz Hotel - nearest tube station: Green Park).
Guest Speaker : Mr. PETER KING, who will speak on the theme of "Going forward together"
Background : At a critical time in the history and fortunes of the Afrikaner people they made a covenant with their God. It was a solemn promise, and their true descendants still regard it as binding on them. Up until 1994 the annual acknowledgement of their covenant at the Voortrekker Monument was a national and religious holiday. As part of the headlong rush to replace every emblem of White government, including the flag, the decision was taken to rename the 16th December as "Day of Reconciliation". For us, however, it will always be the Day of the Vow. The word covenant implies "going forward together". In choosing the title for this address it seemed appropriate to feature the ongoing nature of that historic commitment. Let us take the steadfastness of the South African farming communities as an example for our own efforts to keep alive the flame of hope that South Africa will, one day, be properly governed again.
About the speaker: Peter King was born in Potters Bar in the UK during WWII, the son of a Lancashire Nursing Sister and a London Architect. His mother assumed that he would be joining her side of the family's commitment to Anglican Ministry, and made sure he had a classical education; his father showed him how to start a business. Armed with the priceless gift of being able to offer discount in Latin, Peter chose to follow his own love of electronics, and for many years was involved in the technology and technique of sound in the film and broadcasting industries. In 1976 he supplied some specialised sound equipment to a Johannesburg company for the brand new SABC TV service. In order to install the equipment he took a nineteen-day ticket to South Africa. He returned to London twenty years later. Such was the power of South Africa's magic and many of its people. During his South African stay Peter's lifelong involvement in electronics led to his becoming deeply involved in the emerging use of computers as design tools. By now bilingual, in 1983 he chaired the inaugural meeting of the South African Association of CAD users. In 1985 he was invited to become Technical Director of the AutoCad Centre, and presented papers on programming languages at several major universities. Up until 1996, he was a computer consultant to several prestigious companies, including Tiger Oats, First National Bank, Standard General Assurance, The Morgan Group and Southern Sun Hotels (Sun City). He was based in Johannesburg, but travelled for both business and pleasure in South-West Africa and the Eastern Transvaal. He was an enthusiastic Round Tabler, and in 1993 became the founder chairman of CHUG, the user group for programmers of the C language. Alas, as it became clear that there was no place for him in the "Affirmative Action" environment, it was time to say goodbye to so many dear friends, and in 1996 Peter returned to the land of his birth. The many memories and friendships remain a testament to a wonderful experience; and a once beautiful city. A supporter of the Springbok Club for some time, Peter is currently a member of the Executive Committee and is Liaison Officer of the London Branch.
Buffet-snacks will be provided at this function, and admission charges will be £7.00 per head for Life, Honorary and Full Members of the Springbok Club/ELC, £8.50 per head for Associate Members, and £10.00 per head for non-members. Although payment may be made on the day, it would help to gauge numbers if all those planning to attend could inform us in advance by 'phoning: 07711-188430.
------------------------------------------------------------------
FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC ACTIVITIES
The 2007 AGM of the Springbok Club/Empire Loyalist Club will take place in January, after which it is anticipated that a leading anti-EU activist will give a brief address. Only fully paid-up members of the SC/ELC will be allowed to attend this meeting, and only Life, Honorary and Full Members will be entitled to vote and to stand for office.
In February 2007 the Springbok Club/ELC anticipates welcoming a leading national security lawyer as guest speaker, and in March 2007 the SC/ELC will be joining forces with the London Swinton Circle to stage a meeting to be addressed by a leading personality from Gibraltar.
------------------------------------------------------------------
SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC BRANCH NEWS
We are happy to announce that the problems which unfortunately affected the Northern Ireland Branch of the Springbok Club/ELC earlier this year now appear to have been successfully overcome. The Chairman of the N.I. Branch, Pastor Nigel Owens, still anticipates taking up an overseas teaching appointment in early 2007 however, so therefore needs to hand over the reins of the branch to other dedicated members in the province in the very near future, and a special branch AGM is being planned for early 2007 with this aim in mind. We trust therefore that all members and supporters in Northern Ireland will do their best to help Nigel orchestrate a smooth handover.
The Kent Branch of the SC/ELC is planning an informal social gathering in January, probably in the Medway Towns area.
Alas the anticipated monthly get-togethers which the London Branch of the SC/ELC initially planned never came to full fruition. With recent new injection of blood into the branch's committee it is hoped that this plan will be revived for 2007.
It seems likely that both the dormant Chilterns and Hampshire branches of the SC/ELC will be revitalised with new branch leaderships early in the new year, and that a new Sussex/Surrey Branch will be established.
If you live in any of these areas and would like to become involved in branch activities please e-mail: springbk@netcomuk.co.uk

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The London Swinton Circle was addressed by the Rt.Hon. Ann Widdecombe MP, the former Home Office minister and Conservative MP for Maidstone and the Weald, earlier this month. Miss Widdecombe gave a captivating and wide-ranging speech to a packed audience, which on the whole was very well received. Although there were a few issues where many LSC members present disagreed with her, it was observed afterwards that even in spite of this fact she still seemed far closer to LSC policies than the present CP leadership, and it was just a tragedy that by announcing her retirement from Parliament at the next general election she would not be able to make valuable common-sense contributions to a future Conservative government.
In January the LSC will be addressed by Mr. David Davies MP, the Conservative MP for Monmouth. Precise details for this meeting have still not been finalised, but will be announced in next month's SCN.

4 HARCOURT STREET PETITION
4 Harcourt Street, Dublin, was the birthplace of Sir Edward Carson. Unfortunately this property has been neglected during recent years, but a petition campaign has been mounted to encourage the Dublin authorities to assign a preservation order, restore and finally add a commemorative plaque to the building. We believe that this is a most praiseworthy campaign, so therefore urge all our readers to add their names to the petition. It can be accessed at : http://www.PetitionOnline.com/4harco/

LETTER TO THE OBSERVER
Mr. Jaco Strauss from Melbourne has written the following most succinct letter to The Observer expressing his disgust at the recent totally ignorant pronouncements made by David Cameron in relation to South African terrorists :-
Dear Sir,
It is seldom that one gets the chance to see short-sighted political opportunism on the scale recently exhibited by the Tory leader David Cameron.
In order to try and boost his international image he decided to hitch a ride on Nelson Mandela's coat tails. He managed to get the necessary photo shoot last week and reckoned it afforded a great opportunity to distance himself from his predecessor, Lady Thatcher, who used to refer to Mandela's ANC as "terrorists". David Cameron therefore quickly went on record to claim that Thatcher's Tories got it plainly "wrong" at the time.
Now regardless of how important this photo-op was for Mr Cameron, it is interesting that he should decide to open a polemic on the definition of "terrorism" in the same month a major terrorist plot had ostensibly been foiled in his own country. Not only that, but his country is currently engaged in a "War on Terror" as the major ally of the United States in the biggest war currently raging.
Most observers would however agree that one man's "terrorist" is another man's "freedom fighter", whether it be Mandela, Osama bin Laden, Bobby Sands or Francisco Garmendia. Now if we desired to cut through all the politically-correct posturing and associated sound-bites, we would need to consult the actual dictionary meaning of the word "terrorist". As an Oxford old boy Cameron should be happy with the Oxford Dictionary's definition which defines a "terrorist" as : "a person who uses violence and intimidation in the pursuit of political aims".
Now whichever way you look at it, this is pretty much what the ANC did during the Thatcher years. I don't know what Cameron did at his Eton school on 20 May 1983, but on that day the ANC blew up 18 civilians through a car bomb explosion in Pretoria. Last year on 7 July a "terrorist" blew up 13 civilians on a bus at Tavistock Place, London. Would David Cameron be able to connect these dots - or will he, 20 years down the line after a photo opportunity with an aging Osama bin Laden, hail him too as "one of the greatest men alive" before criticizing Blair for calling al-Qa'eda "terrorists"? How will we ever eradicate this scourge while the likes of Cameron insist on making their contemptible efforts worthwhile?
For let us not fool ourselves. The world is forever condemning "terrorism" on the one hand while rewarding it on the other. Sinn Fein would never have been part of any Belfast Agreement if it wasn't for the IRA's long-standing campaign of blowing up civilians all over the UK, and how prominent would the ANC have been if it wasn't for an "armed struggle" that amounted to little more than ambushing policemen and blowing up civilians in public places? Who would've known about ETA and how many people would have shown any sympathy for the "Palestinian cause" if it did not get advertised through decades of terror inspiring bloodshed?
If the British were ever going to be foolish enough to elect a terror apologist of Cameron's ilk to high office, they can rest assured that further "freedom fighter" attacks like those of 7/7 are going to be visited upon them with ever more regularity.
Yours respectfully,
Jaco Strauss

THE NEW PARTY
Some couple of years or so ago we received friendly e-mail contact from a Mr. Martyn Greene, who was evidently a leading official in a London-based fringe political party called "The New Party". Alas, in spite of promises of support and several official invitations, we never saw anything of Mr. Greene or any other representatives from "The New Party" at any functions. At much the same time we received some material from "The New Party" through the post, but this time with an address in Oldbury, Worcestershire, under the name of a Mr. James Barry. A few weeks ago, however, we received a 'phone call from this Mr. Barry regarding "The New Party". Most mysteriously, however, when we mentioned our previous contact with Mr. Greene he denied all knowledge of him, and bizarrely also claimed ignorance of the party's official address in Northumberland Avenue, London. We therefore sent e-mails to the last know addresses of both Mr. Greene and Mr. Barry asking for clarification, but alas so far haven't received the decency of any reply from either of them. Quite clearly there is something very puzzling and indeed sinister about this so-called "The New Party". Any further information in this regard would be most gratefully received.

SEAL ALERT-SA REPORT
After months of campaigning to end Namibia's largest cull of 85,000 baby seals in nursing and birthing grounds, the species continues to collapse. Since July 1 the sealers have clubbed their way through every living nursing baby seal pup in their desire to fill their export orders for the EU. Sealers are now concentrating their killing spree on shooting 6000 young and old bulls for the Far East trade. Whilst the 2006 sealing season draws to a close on November 15, Seal Alert-SA is once again receiving reports that a 7th mass die-off has taken place since 1988.
Prior to the start of this year's sealing season the seal population was at 1982 levels. After 91,000 have been slaughter (with 100% of the new-born pups) one can only imagine what the Namibian seal population has further declined to. The lowest official population figures we have are in 1972. How long before the seal population will declined off the chart, and yet Namibia still claims its seal population is healthy and sealing is sustainable?
Here are just two of the extracts Seal Alert-SA has received in recent days.
"My name is Yolanda; we are currently visiting Swakopmund in Namibia. We went to the beach (Mile 4 – Mile 8) this morning and were shocked by the number of dead seals on the beach. We only drove on part of the beach, but counted a total of 97. This was terrible, especially for my kids. We even saw a couple of baby seals also dead - do you know what is going on? This is shocking, first of all the decaying bodies, and second all the sadness of why this is happening. We live in South Africa (Pretoria) and we came to Swakopmund to look at this beautiful place, yet now we get a slaughter field. I took photos and I really want to e-mail this to people in South Africa who are not informed of this cruelty. Please let me know how I can help, we will be here until Saturday, and hopefully will be able to show our kids some seals that are alive - not this!"
"Phoned Fisheries today and spoke to Heidi who put the phone down on me. She's dealing with the seals and is a senior biologist. I got up her nostrils because I demanded an explanation regarding the status of the seals thus far - culling and starving to death. I also got hold of an Advocate Mbako at Fisheries HQ in Windhoek who is going to issue me with a press release regarding the seals dying along our coastline. She phoned me back this evening (surprise) and said the matter has been looked into and they will have an answer by Monday. I'll let you know further, but I intend stirring the pot some more, because the seals are dying like flies and the beaches are littered with corpses. I would like to know roughly how many seals you think have been culled to date, as well as what sort of figures are we looking at regarding the seals starving to death? Last year I think there was a recorded figure of 200,000 or 500,000 - that is an awful lot!"
In the last three days, Seal Alert-SA, without any funding (except from one loyal supporter in the Netherlands), has rescued one juvenile, two sub-adults and one weanling pup - all severe starvation cases. Sadly the juvenile after a courageous fight died.
All the large international seal campaigning organizations, with many millions of supporters and many millions of dollars in funding, all posted opposition press releases on their websites, denouncing Namibia as the 'cruellest baby seal hunt on earth'. I know one organization has recently started an international seal awareness campaign called 'making waves for seals', in which over 2 million school children (and their parents) will be reached. I wonder how much of this will go towards saving the seals currently dying in Namibia?
No word as yet from the Green Party's Dr Caroline Lucas or the Commissioners in Europe or the CITES Secretariat, so it's safe to assume once again that all these slaughtered baby seal pup pelts will be welcomed into the EU.
Are we currently witnessing the way in which a seal species becomes extinct, with everybody horrified at the pictures, but not horrified enough to do or help in anyway - yet have no problem in exploiting the situation to raise maximum funding for themselves, with not a cent going towards saving these beautiful marine creatures?

ZIMBABWE/RHODESIAN PENSION CAMPAIGN
We have recently received the following update from Mr. Sean MacNally of the Zimbabwe/Rhodesian Pension Campaign. Their web-site can be accessed at : www.zim-pensions.blogspot.com
This is the text of the correspondence received from 10 Downing Street in July in response to receipt of the Petition :-
"The Prime Minister has asked me to thank you for your recent letter and the petition. He hopes you will understand that, as the matter you raise is the responsibility of the Department for Work and Pensions, he has asked that your letter be forwarded to that Department so that they may reply to you direct on his behalf.
Yours sincerely
S CAINE"
As might have been expected, no further correspondence has since been forthcoming. While the petition itself really only provides details of our objective, and the names of the signatories that have supported it, we recognise that we also have amassed a lot of information via correspondence with our supporters as well as direct feedback from comments on the petition site itself that needs to be summarised and shared; and of course used as ammunition for our cause.
Accordingly work has commenced on compiling a Petition Report that will be forwarded to selected British Government officials so that they have evidence available that portrays the hardship and suffering that pensioners are going through as a result of their plight being ignored. The Report will also provide some statistics on the petition that may be of interest to supporters, and summarize the British Government's position to date, and how it falls short of their moral, if not legal, responsibility.

"BETRAYAL IN HIGH PLACES" by James Mackay.
271 pages, some illustrations. Soft-back £5.00 including p&p. (r.r.p. £10.00)
The compelling story of what really happened in a defeated Japan following the end of World War II. Merchant seaman James Mackay, whilst travelling in the east, started to hear stories of massacres and other atrocities committed by Japanese forces, not just against enemy troops, but against innocent civilian populations. His subsequent investigations revealed reluctance amongst Allied governments to discuss these incidents that seemed to amount almost to a cover-up. Why would the Allies want to overlook the crimes of a former enemy, especially when the leadership of another former enemy was being liquidated at Nuremburg? Using his own research, as well as material prepared by Australian Army war crimes investigator Capt. J.G. Goodwin, Mackay exposes the cover-up and names the guilty. Not only were the Japanese keen to sweep the past under the carpet, but the US government of the time also had its own reasons for preserving the political and industrial elite in Japan. A provocative book, which calls into question the morality of US policy towards Japan after WWII.
Payment can be made by credit or debit card. To order on line, log onto www.paypal.com and enter postmaster@gcartwright.demon.co.uk as payment destination.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.97 : Ms. CHRISTINE ALEXANDER
Christine Alexander hailed from Solihull in Warwickshire, but settled in Durban during the 1970s where she set up her own hair-dressing salon. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
DEATH SENTENCE
Sir,
Another live shootout recently occurred in Jo`burg, passers-by having to take cover from AK47 bullet fire. 4 cash-in-transit staff killed in one heist, 1 guard shot and 3 burned to death in the van which the gang had poured flammable liquid over. Another elderly couple were hijacked and robbed at their farm. 3 cash-in-transit heists in 1 day in Durban, Gateway Centre in Umhlanga, La Lucia Mall and Westville Pavilion Centre, again rounds fired and fatalities. 3 middle-aged ladies from the UK robbed at gunpoint in Jo`burg for their belongings. Today riots and violent assaults in universities. There are obviously more I could comment on.
There are millions of people now living in the UK, New Zealand and Australia because they have been affected by the alarming crime rate in the country, and that even with ADT armed-response, burglar bars on windows, high razor-wire fencing and dogs, they are still being robbed, murdered and raped in their homes. The Rand is R14.68 to the £ pound and probably the high crime rate is contributing to this. A Free State judge has recently said the death penalty should be brought back.
Yours etc.,

ORANGE NETWORK
Sir,
I was sorry to learn that your intended trip to Ulster to address the Northern Ireland Branch of the Springbok Club/ELC was unilaterally cancelled at short notice, which I understand caused you great personal inconvenience. Had I known the dates you were going to be over in advance I may have been able to arrange for you to address either an Orange Lodge or Unionist Branch meeting.
Yours etc.,
Brian John, Belfast, U.K.
[As reported above, the problems which the N.I.Branch of the SC/ELC experienced which caused this planned meeting to be cancelled at such short notice now seem to have been overcome. It is hoped therefore that a revised speaking trip can take place in early 2007. Ed.]

OBITUARY
GENERAL AUGUSTO PINOCHET
It was with great sadness that we learnt of the recent death of Gen. Augusto Pinochet, the former President of Chile. General Pinochet saved Chile from Marxist oppression in 1973, and once installed as President presided over a free-market economic revolution which made Chile and the Chilean people the freest and most prosperous in South America. He also provided much needed support to Britain and the Falkland Islands after the Islands were invaded by dictator-ruled Argentina, and also proved a good friend to South Africa during the days of civilised rule. General Pinochet was therefore a true hero of our time if ever there was one.

November 2006 Edition.
SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER
November 2006 edition
The results of the recent mid-term American elections, where the Left - in the form of the Democratic Party - seized control of both Houses of Congress, were depressing in the extreme.
In spite of claims by the leftist media that these elections were a 'referendum' on President Bush's Iraq policy, this clearly wasn't exactly the case. A far more important factor as far as many traditional Republican voters were concerned was the immorality of a number of Republican congressmen. Furthermore, the results were not quite as catastrophic as many may have believed. The Democratic Party hierarchy clearly expected to make even more gains in the House, and with the Independent Joe Liebermann and a few other patriotic-minded Democrats holding the balance of power in the Senate it is by no means certain that the leftist appeasers of terrorism will be able to force a change in US Middle Eastern policy.
The subsequent removal of Donald Rumsfeld from office was most regrettable. To be sure he made many mistakes and lost the confidence of several leading figures in the US Defence establishment, but even so he had proved a man of guts and determination, who had seen the vital necessity of confronting expansionist Islam threatening the West in its heartland.
As far as the future is concerned these elections will hopefully be a "wake-up call" to all patriotic Americans. The re-election of a Republican President (probably John McCain) is vital in 2008 if the War against Terrorism is to be pursued and that all those Western servicemen who have been killed opposing Ba'athist and Taliban terrorism in both Iraq and Afghanistan will not have died in vain. It may well prove to be a blessing in disguise that the 'blip' swing to the left occurred in the United States this year, for otherwise it may have taken place in far more important 2008.
As far as the future is concerned recent most worrying developments in both Iran and the DPRK have proved how essential it is for the West to 'stay the course' in both Iraq and Afghanistan. 'Staying the course', however, doesn't just mean maintaining a military presence in these countries until some less extremist governments take control - it means 'staying the course' indefinitely with some form of continuing Western presence, so that never again can these lands act as springboards for 9/11-style atrocities. Not only is a continuing Western presence (in time, not necessarily a military presence) essential in these two countries however, but also in those other beleaguered lands where terrorist despots now hold sway - and by this we are not only referring to other fundamentalist Islamic countries such as Iran and Syria, but also to tyrant-ruled African lands such as Zimbabwe!
As we've observed in the past, Kipling's great exhortation "Take up the White Man's Burden" was actually aimed at America, to encourage them to join their European brothers in establishing civilised rule around the world. President George W. Bush has probably been the first US leader to act upon this instruction positively. His legacy must not be betrayed.

NOVEMBER SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC ACTIVITIES
The Springbok Club were most privileged to welcome Mr. Johnny Rodrigues, Chairman of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, as guest of honour for this year's November Buffet. In spite of a few initial technical problems, and a somewhat lower than anticipated attendance, this event even so turned out to be an outstanding success. Johnny Rodrigues, who was accompanied by his wife Cheryl, gave a most enlightening, although very disturbing, illustrated talk about the work of the ZCTF at Hwange (Wankie) National Park. He showed the horrific effects which illegal snares used by poachers had upon the wildlife in the park, and how the drying up of watering holes had caused further suffering among the animals - both factors which the ZANU-PF government were taking no steps to resolve. More encouragingly, however, Johnny showed how, with financial aid from supporters around the globe, the ZCTF had been able to install water-pumps and generators to refill the watering holes, and were also taking measures as best they could to counteract the vile activities of poachers. The evening began with a very apt brief musical interlude provided by Mr. Robin Willow, and ended with a sumptuous buffet and the sale of magnificent wildlife paintings produced by Johnny and Cheryl's children. Both Johnny and Cheryl Rodrigues are now safely back in Zimbabwe, and we wish both them and all those involved with the ZCTF every increasing success in the most vital work which they are doing by protecting everyone's wildlife heritage in the future.
We urge everyone to visit the ZCTF's web-site at http://www.zctf.mweb.co.zw

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC ACTIVITIES
In December the Springbok Club/ELC hopes to welcome a famous South African journalist as Guest of Honour for its annual Day of the Vow commemorations. Further details will be notified as soon as arrangements have been finalised, and will also be included in next month's SCN.
The 2007 AGM of the Springbok Club/Empire Loyalist Club will take place in January, after which it is hoped that a leading anti-EU activist will give a brief address.
In February 2007 the Springbok Club/ELC anticipates welcoming a leading national security lawyer as guest speaker, and in March 2007 the SC/ELC plans to hold a joint meeting with the London Swinton Circle to be addressed by Mr. Brian Danes, an expert on BBC and other media bias.

SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC BRANCH NEWS
The Kent Branch of the Springbok Club/ELC staged a trip to the Historic Dockyard Chatham last month in order to celebrate Trafalgar Day. A wreath was laid at the dock where HMS Victory was built on behalf of the organisation in remembrance to all those who had fought and died for the British Empire at the Battle of Trafalgar by Mr. Robert Shipley, after which Mr. Robin Willow gave a rousing rendition of the traditional naval song "Claudy Banks". The SC/ELC party then boarded HMS Cavalier which was on display in the dock where HMS Victory was built. As HMS Cavalier's final engagement before decommissioning had been in the notorious Beira Patrol (to enforce UN sanctions against Rhodesia - though it is believed that few RN officers took this ridiculous operation seriously!) a symbolic unfurling of a Rhodesian flag was enacted by Robert Shipley and "Skip" Rausch on the bridge of the ship! Shortly thereafter a contingent of Royal Naval Reserve personnel and Sea Cadets staged a march-past led by a band of the Royal Marines in order to mark Trafalgar Day. Incredibly among the tunes played by the Royal Marines band was "Sarie Marais" - at which point the Springbok Club/ELC contingent unfurled a real South African flag down the side of the HMS Cavalier from which they were viewing!
The London Branch of the Springbok Club will be staging a further informal get-together on Tuesday 28th November in the downstairs bar of "The Clarence", Whitehall, London SW1, commencing at 19.30 hrs.

Time : 19.00 hrs.
Venue : Room C, No.1 Parliament Street. (Please note that as this is an official annex to Parliament the usual entry security checks and standards of behaviour will apply.)

LATEST FALKLANDS NEWS
The Argentinian newspaper "La Nacion" has recently carried an important article – an interview with Sir Lawrence Freedman. He says that the present posture of President Kirchner is a mistake - and is only going to increase suspicion in the Islands and not going to get Argentina anywhere. He says it might help Kirchner domestically, but that no British Government is going to give in to such pressure. He goes on to say that possession of the Falklands had never been put to any international court, but that legal arguments, although not of secondary importance, are not as important historically as people might think; that possession of the Islands was always a question of who was stronger at the time. He goes on to say that Britain could make a better case than Argentina for the Islands, but that in reality what has define possession of the territory has been the use of arms. Freedman also said that Chilean and US support for Britain was important, but not decisive in the war. He says that one thing his book has achieved has been to dismiss the conspiracy theories about the sinking of the General Belgrano.

OPEN LETTER TO NORMA KRIGER
The following is an open letter written by Mr. Jaco Strauss from Melbourne to Norma Kriger of the so-called Human Rights Watch :-
"I am amazed that the superficial and biased 'studies' by your organization are given any kind of coverage in the media. Actually, I suppose, not really amazed, rather appalled. In your story on 'Unprotected Migrants' as reported in today's 'The Mercury', you deal with the Zim refugee problem, not from the point of view of condemning the Stone Age despot who forced them into their destitute state in the first place, but rather the farmers who actually harbour and employ them.
"Not only that, but in the real world this group of farmers you single out for your vitriolic tripe just happen to actually be the most under siege group of people anywhere in the world! It is more dangerous to be a White farmer in South Africa than an American serviceman in Iraq; or even currently living anywhere in Southern Lebanon, for that matter.
"Your response to the thousands of farm attacks over recent years? One article, published in 2001, in which you concluded that these attacks shouldn't be called 'farm attacks' after all, but rather 'violent crime on farms' as in your words the 'Use of the language of farm attacks tends to cloud analysis'.
"But of course I forget. Really addressing human rights problems won't be too good for business, would it? After all, what would happen to the likes of you without the millions of dirt poor refugees that can be milked in support of your cushy little jobs on glamorous Fifth Avenue, New York? Furthermore, Mugabe is without a doubt one of your biggest money spinners and job creators; obviously you'll let him be! And what better way to keep the resulting serfs poor and destitute (and the cash coming) than to nail those White farmers that actually employ, clothe and feed them?
"Reading your superficial analysis, it is clear that the use of certain words is definitely not the only thing clouding analysis by your so-called 'Human Rights Watch'. The refugees you prefer to call 'migrants' will definitely be better off without you watching out for them."
Jaco Strauss,
Melbourne

AUSTRALIAN MONARCHIST LEAGUE'S LONDON CONFERENCE
The Australian Monarchist League's recent London Conference proved to be a great success. Starting with a dinner at the East India Club on the evening of Friday 27th October, where the after-dinner speaker was Leo Price QC, the Conference then continued throughout the following weekend. Organised and chaired by Philip Benwell MBE, the Chairman of the Australian Monarchist League, speakers at the conference included Roger Helmer MEP, Lindsay Jenkins, Philip Davies MP and John Clemence QPM, all of whom explained how Britain's best interests did not lie with continued membership of the EU, but rather with greater co-operation with the other Commonwealth realms - or perhaps it would be better to say, in view of the most interesting talk given by Blythe Stason, Professor Emeritus of Law at Northern Illinois University, with the English-speaking world. There was a very wide cross-section of delegates at this conference, who were all greatly impressed with the alternative vision for the future which was presented. Two further dinners were held at the East India Club on the Saturday and Sunday evenings, at which the after-dinner speakers were Rodney Atkinson of the "British Declaration of Independence Campaign" and Michael Shrimpton QC respectively, both of whom gave highly enthralling talks.
An open meeting was held at the House of Lords on the following Wednesday at which Mr. Philip Benwell MBE and other important figures launched "The Association of the Commonwealth Realms", the purpose of which will be to work towards closer links between the English-Speaking Realms and to defend The Crown of the United Kingdom. The Springbok Club/Empire Loyalist Club has already pledged its basic support for this new global organisation.

"OF RICE AND MEN", by Jimmy Walker
111 pages. Illustrated. With excellent cartoons by Fusilier Norman Lambert, produced whilst in captivity. Soft-back £5.00 (cover price £10.00)
An irreverent, left of centre, look at life as a POW by Jimmy Walker, who was captured by the Japanese following the fall of Singapore in 1942. Jimmy takes us through incarceration at the notorious Changi jail, forced labour on the railroad, and deportation to Japan, where the Japanese exploited the mining skills of the boys from Northumberland. Norman Lambert’s sketches are both amusing and frightening at the same time. Through the bitterness and resentment, and physical trauma of captivity shines the humour and the indomitable spirit of the British soldier. An enjoyable and educational read, with a surprise ending.
Prices include p&p. Payment can be made by credit or debit card. To order on line, log on to www.paypal.com and enter postmaster@gcartwright.demon.co.uk as payment destination.

The experience entangles him in a murder mystery involving the occult of the modern Western world and the traditional witch doctors of Africa. The murders involve several Western billionaires who all inexplicably die after returning home from overseas business trips. Victor’s curiosity leads him to seek advice from a renowned psychic in Washington DC, who in turn introduces him to Jana Gordon, the beautiful daughter of one of the deceased men. Jana is determined to bring those responsible for the murders of her father and the other financiers to justice. The search for the cause of the mysterious deaths takes Victor, Jana, and her two undercover private detectives to the African country of Zimbabwe. There they are confronted with the dangers of the powerful magic of African witchcraft and a strange, evil creature that has been conjured to oppose them. Victor and Jana find evidence that links the murders to the legend of Chief Lobengula’s hidden treasure of diamonds. But will they be able to capture those responsible and put an end to the evil scheme?

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.96 : Mr. & Mrs. GORDON LLOYD, formerly of Bulawayo
Gordon and Ruth Lloyd were active members of the John Birch Society in the United States, and lived in Alaska prior to emigrating to Bulawayo in order to assist the Rhodesian struggle more directly during the early 1970s. They were instrumental in organising the second phase of the speaking tour of Rhodesia by representatives of the "Save Rhodesia Campaign" of South Africa in late 1978 in order to advocate a "No" vote in the looming Rhodesian Constitutional Referendum, a phase which included Bulawayo, Gwelo and Lalapanzi. Following the fall of Rhodesia as a result of the loss of this referendum they returned to the United States, where they based themselves at "Four Ways", a place near to the point where the states of Colorado, Utah, Arizona and New Mexico all meet. Alas nothing further was heard of them after that, but a number of former associates would be very keen to learn what happened to them.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
CABLE FAULT
Sir,
I was watching a little of CNN International yesterday. One of its anchor-types has been in RSA for awhile 'assessing' the situation. Everybody there (on tv) was talking like it's fine; just a matter of time before utopia unfolds. What's up? How can CNN International get it so wrong, be so touchy-feely positive about RSA's present and future?
Yours etc.,
Rob Busey, Australia-based American

REPEAT PERFORMANCE
Sir,
I read with interest your leading article in the September edition of the SCN. I have heard on many occasions about history repeating itself, well it looks like this article could be a prediction for the future of this country, the only difference is that the majority are being intimidated by a minority and are being forced to leave for countries elsewhere, where they feel safer. The victims are, as in Africa, the elderly who have worked all their lives to prepare for retirement, but are now finding it taken away to provide for the previously disadvantaged minority (in Africa Majority). The countries such as Australia who are realising that enough is enough are gaining the skills of these people.
Yours etc.,
Mike Graeme, Crawley, U.K.

OBITUARIES
P.W.BOTHA
Former State President Pieter Willem Botha, who died earlier this month, was one of the main architects of the demise of White-ruled civilised South Africa. After being elected Leader of the National Party and Prime Minister in 1978 he carried on - and indeed accelerated - down the slippery-slope of surrender and appeasement begun by his predecessor Balthazar Johannes Vorster.
P.W.Botha's first aim as Prime Minister was to make a radical change in the South African constitution, which not only created an executive semi-dictatorial presidency (which - surprise, surprise - he was to be the first incumbent), but also allowed both Coloureds and Indians into Parliament. Following the unexpected approval of these plans by the electorate in the Constitutional Referendum of 1983 Botha quickly set about abolishing the main pillars of apartheid (separate development) such as the Licensing Laws, the Immorality Act, Influx Control and the Pass Laws. He did little to quell communist-inspired insurrections in certain Black townships (the Soviet Union was then still in existence), which of course were encouraged by the perceived weakness and surrender of the NP Government. Furthermore, he eagerly washed his hands of his White kith-and-kin in South-West Africa (he had earlier been a leading member of Vorster's NP Cabinet which had similarly sold-out their kith-and-kin in Rhodesia.)
Botha's sell-out to terrorism seemed to know no bounds however. He arranged for the convicted terrorist criminal Nelson Mandela to be moved from the maximum security Robben Island Prison to the Pollsmore "holiday camp", and most sickeningly of all engaged in face-to-face discussions with this same terrorist leader towards the end of his term in office.
Following a heart attack Botha was deposed by his cabinet colleagues, and was succeeded his fellow-appeaser F.W.de Klerk. This coup against him made him a very bitter man however, and he set about trying to re-invent himself with a more hardline image - even resigning from the NP in protest against de Klerk's policies - though in reality they were little different from his own. This false "hardline reputation" was regrettably propagated by many elements in the West who had little knowledge of the intricacies of South African politics during the 1970s and 1980s, something which has been evident in many apparently unresearched obituaries to him. If P.W.Botha did pursue any "hardline" policies then they was against the White right-wing opposition to his appeasement, as he orchestrated particularly vindictive dirty-tricks campaigns against the HNP and the newly-founded Conservative Party, which had been established in 1982 by a section of the NP which could no longer go along with his policy of sell-out and surrender.
By all accounts the current ANC government ordered all flags to be flown at half-mast in his honour following his death. They at least seemed to know which side he was really on.
---------------------------------------
MILTON FRIEDMAN
Milton Friedman, who died earlier this week, was probably the greatest economic thinker of our age, and will forever be regarded as the main exponent of the policy of monetarism.
Monetarism - the theory that inflation is caused purely by too much money being in circulation in relation to goods and services available - was a direct challenge to the prevailing liberal-leftist Keynsian doctrine, which had caused so much regression in the post-WWII Western world. The adoption of Friedman's Chicago School of thinking was the direct cause of the economic triumph of both Thatcher's Britain and Reagan's America - which then spread to almost the entire free world.
We all owe Friedman a great debt of gratitude. He won the economic war against the Marxists - but the social and global battles still remain to be won. Le us hope that visionaries such as Friedman arise in these other spheres to ensure the triumph of Western values in the years ahead.

KEITH PINCHEN
Keith Pinchen was featured in the "Where are they now?" column of the June 2006 edition of the SCN. Sadly we have recently learnt that Keith died in Cape Town the previous April.
Keith was a good Rhodesian patriot who worked actively to try to ensure the survival of the Rhodesian nation during the 1970's. Alongside Gordon and Ruth Lloyd he did his best in the Bulawayo area to convince his fellow-countrymen to continue to resist the terrorist onslaught, in spite of the sellout of the NP South African Government, and in this regard played an active part in organising the famous "Save Rhodesia Campaign" tour of Rhodesia advocating a "No" vote in the forthcoming Constitutional Referendum during late 1978.
Sadly Keith seemed to play no part in the continuing struggle for South Africa following the fall of Rhodesia during the 1980's, but his dedicated activism for the Rhodesian cause will always be remembered.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The London Swinton Circle has staged two very successful meetings recently. The first was addressed by Mr. Idris Francis, a well-known Welsh-born but Hampshire-based anti-EU campaigner, and the second by Mr. Jeffrey Donaldson MP (DUP, Lagan Valley), in which he gave a highly informative overview of the recent Northern Ireland constitutional talks at St. Andrews, and the DUP stance at these discussions.
Details of the next London Swinton Circle meeting are as follows :-
Date : Monday 4th December 2006.
Time : 19.00 hrs.
Venue : Room C, No.1 Parliament Street. (Please note that as this is an official annex to Parliament the usual entry security checks and standards of behaviour will apply.)
Guest Speaker : The Rt. Hon. Ann Widdecombe MP, Conservative MP for Maidstone and the Weald.

"THE FOUR FACES" by Isaac Benatar
In February 2006, four faces appear to Victor Hannah carved out of the storm clouds above his home in the tiny historic town of Annapolis, Maryland.

"THE RAPE OF ZIMBABWE" by Ricky Wilson - which tells it like it was (and is)!
Rhodesia was once a prosperous and thriving country, and the story of the author's enterprising and entrepreneurial spirit in that land, followed by his desperate escape from the country when, as Zimbabwe, it became ruled by a tyrant, imparts a realistic perspective of the present desperate plight of many exiles from a country that was once a paradise and the breadbasket for so much of Africa.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER
October 2006 edition
Ever since its inception our movement has constantly tried to highlight the threat posed to White Western civilisation by multi-culturalism and multi-racial societies.
At times during past decades this has proved to be very difficult, as one Western country after another embraced the dubious delights of multi-culturalism and passed insidious "race relations" laws in order to silence those who warned of the dangers. Nowhere was this capitulation to the forces of multi-racialism more sad and surprising than in South Africa, which previously had been viewed as a beacon of sanity and commonsense by White patriots around the globe.
Now, more suddenly than perhaps could have been expected, all this seems to be changing. Throughout Europe and Australasia (and in Britain and the Netherlands in particular) mainstream politicians have at last found the strength to speak out about the problems which allowing a sizeable minority of aliens to settle in their lands has caused. To be sure, at present these concerns have only been expressed in relation to the specific Muslim threat - but a start has at least been made, and this should greatly encourage those of us who recognise that the problem is actually far more fundamental.
The 9/11 and 7/7 Muslim terrorist attacks against the West woke up many who previously deluded themselves about a make-believe multi-cultural "utopia". Even in spite of fierce opposition to the Wars Against Terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq by Mohammedan immigrants and their pro-multi-racial fellow-travellers, most Western leaders (with the sickening exception of the Spanish) stood firm and realised that the Islamic threat was real and had to be confronted at its very heart if Western civilisation was to survive. Now, however, it seems as if more and more establishment politicians realise that the threat doesn't only lie from the Muslim countries alone, but is also present within our own borders.
Over recent weeks Britain has introduced stronger legislation to detain and deport Islamic extremists; Jack Straw and other Labour politicians have voiced strong opposition to the subjugation of Mohammedan women by the wearing of the veil; and the media has been quite open in specifying that a Muslim taxi-driver refused to carry a blind woman and her guide-dog, and that Muslim mobs had attacked the homes of servicemen in the Windsor area. Merely a year or so ago such developments and reporting would have been unthinkable because of fear of "race relations" legislation and the intimidating effects of "political correctness".
It is quite clear therefore that the entire zeitgeist of the Western world has radically changed over the past couple of years - even if there are those who for their own sinister reasons choose to deny this. With more effort to alert and inform people of the true dangers posed to our way of life by continuing multi-culturalism then the situation can only improve even more. The days ahead will inspire us.

SEPTEMBER SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC ACTIVITIES
Last month Alan Harvey, the Organiser/Secretary of the Springbok Club/Empire Loyalist Club, addressed the London Branch of the organisation under the theme of "The similarities and differences between the Ulster and Southern African struggles", which was very well received. Unfortunately difficulties within the Northern Ireland Branch of the SC/ELC (difficulties which now happily seem to have been overcome) meant that a similar address planned for Ulster had to be cancelled at very short notice. We apologise to all those who were intending to attend this event, but are pleased to report that it now seems likely that a replacement meeting will be held in Northern Ireland sometime next year.
------------------------------------------------------------------
OCTOBER SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC EVENT
The Kent Branch of the Springbok Club/Empire Loyalist Club will be staging a trip to the Historic Dockyard Chatham in order to celebrate the 201st anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar, to which all friends and supporters are invited. Details of this event are as follows:-
Date : Sunday 22nd October
Assembly point : The Visitor Entrance at the end of Dock Road (the former Pembroke Gate)
Time : Assemble between 11.00 hrs and 11.30 hrs.
The charge for entrance to the Historic Dockyard Chatham is £9.00 per head. If, however, a party of over 15 is assembled then the charge will be only £8.10 per head, and if the party consists of over 20 then only £6.75 per head. As numbers are at present uncertain we would therefore suggest that the highest of these charges should provisionally be anticipated. It will certainly help to gauge numbers, however, if all those hoping to attend could 'phone to confirm on: 07711-188430.
This event will take the form of an informal visit, but two leading Springbok Club/Empire Loyalist Club officials, Robert Shipley and Alan Harvey, are experts on the history of the Dockyard, and will be giving an unofficial conducted tour.
The high-spot of this visit will be a brief wreath-laying ceremony at the dock in which H.M.S. Victory was built. This will take place at approximately 12.45 hrs, and it is anticipated that Mr. Robin Willow will sing an appropriate sea-shanty at this ceremony.
[ We advise all those travelling from London to catch the 10.03 train from Victoria. By all accounts track-repairs over the weekend will mean that this train will terminate at Rochester. The Visitor Entrance to the Historic Dockyard Chatham is only a short taxi journey away from Rochester Railway Station however. Otherwise catch the 141 bus from Chatham Station.]
------------------------------------------------------------------
FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC ACTIVITIES
On Wednesday 15th November the Springbok Club/ELC will be most honoured to welcome Mr. Johnny Rodrigues as Guest of Honour at a special buffet function which it will be staging. Johnny Rodrigues is Chairman of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, a wildlife protection organisation based at Hwange (Wankie) National Park in Zimbabwe, which works to prevent poaching and other illegal killing of Zimbabwe's precious wildlife, which the current ZANU-PF regime seems either unable or unwilling to prevent. Mr. Rodrigues will be bringing along CDs and DVDs of the work of the ZCTF, and so will be giving a fully-illustrated presentation. This event will take place at The Counting House in the City of London, and fuller details will be given in next month's SCN.
In December the Springbok Club/ELC anticipates welcoming a famous South African journalist as Guest of Honour for its annual Day of the Vow commemorations.
The 2007 AGM of the Springbok Club/Empire Loyalist Club will take place in January.
------------------------------------------------------------------
SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC DEVELOPMENTS
We are happy to announce that Mr. Peter King has joined the SC/ELC Executive Committee in place of Mr. Robert Shipley, whose geographic location made it increasingly difficult for him to attend ExCo meetings. Robert Shipley will however continue as the organisation's Overseas Liaison Officer in an ex officio capacity.
Unfortunately unforeseen problems have meant that the SC/ELC has lost its original web-site domain name. A new domain name has now been obtained however, which is : www.springbokclub.org.uk

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
Last month the London Swinton Circle staged two meetings, the first was addressed by Mr. Edward Spalton (a former senior civil servant and businessman, and a leading member of the Freedom Association), and the second by the Rev. Dr. Alan Clifford of the Norwich Reformed Church, who spoke on the subject of "Islam and British Politics". Both meetings proved to be most informative and good successes.
Details of the next London Swinton Circle meeting are as follows :-
Date : Tuesday 31st October
Time : 19.00 hrs
Venue : The Counting House, 50 Cornhill, London EC3
Guest Speaker : Mr. Idris Francis
Idris Francis is a well-known Welsh-based stalwart campaigner against the EU, and will address the meeting on the subject of Corpus Juris.
In November the LSC will be staging two important meetings, the first to be held on 14th November will be addressed by Jeffrey Donaldson MP (DUP, Lagan Valley), and the second by David Davies MP (Conservative, Monmouth). Fuller details about both these meetings will appear in next month's SCN.

LATEST FALKLANDS NEWS
The Argentinian newspaper Clarin has recently carries a major article entitled "London reiterates to the UN that it will not negotiate the sovereignty of the Malvinas [the Falkland Islands] - unless the islanders want this". In the text it says that Britain has said this both to the UN and to the Organisation of American States in response to recent Argentine moves. The article goes on to report what Geoff Hoon was quoted as saying in the newspaper "Scotland on Sunday" that: "There can not be negotiations over the sovereignty of the Falklands unless the Islanders want this. The principle of self-determination underlies the policy of the Government of Tony Blair".
------------------------------------------------------------------
TAU STATEMENT
We have recently received the following media release from the Transvaal Agricultural Union :-
The question of meritocracy is hardly ever discussed in South Africa today. The buzz words are transformation, equality, redistribution, disadvantaged, emerging and rectification. Yet a proposed abuse of meritocracy precipitated riots in India recently, as medical students demonstrated against their government's proposal to allocate quotas at medical schools to people of a lower caste, called "Other Backward Classes" (OBC's). Tentative plans by the Indian government to introduce quotas in the private sector have met with fierce opposition from the business community.
Not so in South Africa where quotas have been forced on the productive sector by sheer force of numbers. Generally, countries where meritocracy is not the benchmark of a person's worth are, in the main, either failing or failed states. Where people are not given their due, where sections of the population are hindered from reaching their potential - societies where the role of women is hobbled for example - these countries usually lag behind and are burdened with corruption, lethargy, poverty and in many instances violence.
The South African government says Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) is to rectify the "injustices" inherent in South Africa's past as a result of this country's previous apartheid policy. While there were indeed restrictions, some sectors of the population prospered economically (Indian South Africans were a good example). At the same time, South Africa itself was a top-grade country, where even those outside the first-world economy generally benefited. The country was in the main free from the scourge of crime, poor hospital services, and food scarcities. The farming community was safe, and workers were in general well looked after.
This previous state of affairs is highlighted by Mr Richard Maponya, prominent Soweto businessman who is as far removed from the current crop of BEE passengers as one could imagine. Self-made, Mr Maponya is still active at 88, and compares today's South Africa to the time under apartheid when he made something of himself, despite some restrictions. "Life was wonderful (in Soweto) because you could trust people, and there were no muggings. I used to walk around with bags of money and I never got robbed".
The policy of BEE was ostensibly designed to redistribute wealth. But wealth is a creation, not a commodity, and BEE has resulted in a skewed South African economy where a few have benefited from wealth transfer but not entrepreneurship transfer, the latter of course being the engine which creates wealth.
The government has designated 30% of South Africa's commercial farms to be transferred to the "emerging" Black farming sector by 2014. There has not been one case of a successful transfer. Either the farms have collapsed and are in ruins, or they have been rescued by White mentors or paid consultants who have been contracted to resuscitate the farms and manage them.
This warped result of BEE transformation has resulted in millions of taxpayer Rands being used to rescue what should never have collapsed in the first place.
A "passenger" class has now emerged in South Africa. In some sectors, this class has ruined the sector in which it is involved, and agriculture is a good example. In other sectors, particularly within the business community, BEE appointments are there because the government has ordered that a percentage of all businesses must have Black ownership. Tokenism is rife, in order to obtain government contracts, and the media is replete with photos of well-fed, very well-dressed Black people who have been appointed to the board of this, or are the Human Resources Managers of that. They are not allowed to ruin the big commercial organizations, but many smaller businesses have closed doors because they cannot carry unproductive fellow-travellers.
Who are these instant millionaires who were mostly unheard of before the ANC came to power? Were they geniuses in hiding, waiting for apartheid to be lifted when they could emerge resplendent in all their entrepreneurial glory? Had any of them made any effort at starting a business, using commercial bank loans, employing people, paying rent and taxes, as Richard Maponya and others had done?
After the unbanning of the ANC, the organization tried desperately to raise money through its own organization Movement Marketing Enterprises (MME) The results were disastrous and an audit report showed corruption, mismanagement and technical bankruptcy. The organization's personnel sat in an old donated building in a poor section of Johannesburg. Tokyo Sexwale was on a salary of R2,800 per month. He was head of "Special Projects", but none of the commercial projects the ANC tried its hand at made a profit. The following were all on R3,500 per month: Aziz Pahad, Ronnie Kasrils, Tito Mboweni, Terror Lekota, Pallo Jordan, Gill Marcus, Penuel Maduna, Winnie Mandela, Jacob Zuma and the current president Thabo Mbeki.
The ANC was trying to make money for itself through its "Business Unit" MME, yet with all those ANC VIP's in tow, it was unable to do so. The organization was lucky it came to power when it did, and others took up the slack to accommodate its many passengers!
None other than Mr Moeletsi Mbeki, brother of Thabo Mbeki, said last month that this country should leave "the consumption model of transformation and adopt Asia's productive approach. The new Black middle class plays next to no role in the ownership and control of the productive economy of South Africa. Their role is one of overseeing redistribution of wealth towards consumption"
Vice-Chancellor of Wits University Mr Loyiso Nongxa agrees. "The problem is that when you are redistributing and not growing you will reach a point where there is nothing to distribute any more", he declared.
While some BEE beneficiaries make huge profits and spend this money on cars, clothes, wine farms and expensive second homes, few will build a factory or create jobs for their fellow Blacks. The policy is deeply flawed and even destructive especially in the agricultural sector. The State President's brother's remarks have not come a moment too soon.

ZIMBABWE/RHODESIAN PENSION CAMPAIGN
The Zimbabwe/Rhodesian Pension Petition, with 1,984 signatures, has been delivered, and a posted reply received from the office of the British Prime Minister. The Petition has been passed on to the Department of Work and Pensions; a full reply is expected soon. The letters will then be published on the Blog Site.
Thanks to the laborious and much appreciated efforts of Mr Fred Punter, a UK supporter, hundreds of British Members of Parliament are being lobbied by e-mail to question the tragic and shameful state of affairs regarding the non-payment of Zimbabwe/Rhodesian pensions. However MP's may only act on behalf of their own constituents. Accordingly, all UK supporters are urged to forward the letters to their local MP's, giving their own names and the information required by Parliamentary protocol.
Eventually this grievance will be redressed. How soon and how fair will depend on the efforts of all who care.
Thank you for your support, and hopefully you will visit the Blog Site to log progress reports and developments at : www.zim-pensions.blogspot.com

RESPONSE FROM THE NATIONAL COUNCIL OF SPCAs
Dear Sir
An e-mail, usually titled SPCA SHUTTING DOWN or SPCA CLOSING DOWN, was originated by a Chanel Rowan who has since blocked her responses from this petition to her mailbox. It was sent out some years ago, and it costs 2 employees approximately 4-5 valuable hours every month to set the record straight.
This unauthorised (albeit well-intended but misinformed) e-mail has been circulating the internet for some years and has caused enormous headaches for the NSPCA and its member SPCAs, particularly with potential supporters. After all, who wants to support an organisation that they perceive as closing!!
There are 97 SPCAs in South Africa and although some of the smaller societies do struggle for survival due to their locations, there is no way that the movement itself would close down. The NSPCA and the SPCA movement as a whole enforces over 90% of the South African animal protection legislation. The SPCA movement is also controlled by its own statutory Act of Parliament even though no funds are received from government.
The above information is available on our website (www.nspca.co.za).
A further article in the July SCN relates to the "disturbing e-mail" received from Louise Joubert of Sanwild. We would like to make the following comment clarifying the NSPCA’s position.
On 17 April 2006 six young elephants were captured from the wild in the Selati Game Reserve, Limpopo province [Far Northern Transvaal] and were taken by road to "Elephants for Africa" Forever near Tzaneen for domestication in terms of training for elephant-back safaris for the tourist industry.
The capture and transfer of the elephants was witnessed by Karen Trendler and Michael Jamieson of the National Council of SPCAs Wildlife Unit. An invitation had been extended to Karen Trendler by a veterinarian who wishes to pioneer more humane forms of elephant capture, to attend this particular capture. The NSPCA was under the impression that the elephant capture was to take place for the purposes of relocation. We were not aware that the purpose of the capture was to remove young elephants from a social group for purposes of being trained in elephant-back safaris. Limpopo [Far Northern Transvaal] Nature Conservation authorities had issued the relevant permits. The function of NSPCA Wildlife Unit representatives in attending the capture was both to assist the veterinarian by giving him input on more humane ways in which to affect elephant captures, and to perform their legal function of ensuring that the animals being captured were not subject to cruelty. Regardless of the destination, the NSPCA endeavours to be present where possible to monitor capture operations.
The NSPCA has reiterated its statement of policy in media releases over the years that we are opposed to the taking of wild animals, and that wild animals belong in the wild. The NSPCA believes that the capture of wild elephants, "taming" them for lifelong captivity is unethical and cruel.
If legal requirements are adhered to, the NSPCA accepts with reluctance that the activities can, do and will happen. The NSPCA remains vigilant to activities around the country and above all acts on behalf of all animals as per our legal mandate. This is best achieved by being present, on the scene, and observing every detail to ensure the humane treatment of the animals. Being present does not mean we condone. It means we work in a pro-active and reactive manner in support of animals around the country. Further examples may include the roadside sale of live animals or the slaughter methods utilised in the meat industry.
Wild-caught elephant may well be lost to conservation but their humane treatment in long-term captivity remains a priority for this Society. The NSPCA is actively involved in the monitoring of elephant-back safari operations around the country and in lobbying provincial government to control the removal of wild elephant strictly.
Yours sincerely
Brenda Santon, Wildlife Unit, National Council of SPCAs

CANADIAN/AUSTRALIAN TIES
We have recently been informed by Mr. James Alcock of the Federal Commonwealth Society about an upcoming Canada-Australia summit in 2008. The Premiers of both countries will be meeting in Adelaide, South Australia in that year to discuss forging closer ties. Although at present we know no further details, this certainly sounds like an extremely encouraging development. We will give further publicity in future editions of the SCN as more details become available.

No.95 : Mr. KEN SUTLER-GORE of Durban
Ken Sutler-Gore was a former British Conservative Party parliamentary candidate, a director of a leading Durban import/export company, and a top Natal Cricket umpire. He is probably best known, however, as the leading light behind the "Durban Parliamentary Debating Society" ("The Durban Parliament") where many supporters got to know him and admire him well. Many of them would be very keen to learn what has become of him.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
WORLD CUP WALLIES
Sir,
We have just listened to an extraordinary announcement on Cape Talk, our local chat show. Some Portuguese coach has been offered R2M a month for coaching Bafana-Bafana! What is still more unbelievable is that he has refused! I thought this was a joke, but it was repeated later in the morning. The members of this team, if you can call them that, are under the impression that the aim of soccer consists solely of shooting for goal, when in reality you must pass to the guy nearest the goalposts! Even I know that! I suppose the ten or so Black directors of this outfit are concerned about the 2010 show in Jo'burg, but my own feeling is that this team will never NEVER shape!
Yours etc.,
Richard Deane, Cape Town

CRY HYPOCRISY
Sir,
It has been 12 years now since the ex-European South Africans voluntarily handed over power to the Black majority, and still there is no end in sight to the moral criminalization of all things White - and there will never be!
To be fair, apartheid was morally reprehensible, but didn’t the Americans, Australians and Kiwis take it one step further in history - all but wiping out the indigenous peoples who stood in their way? How many Native Americans, Aborigines and Maoris really control their own destinies? Mind you, how many Africans in Africa can claim they live on Cloud Nine? To drop the political-correctness; Africa is a bloody mess, and no civilized human being can live there anymore!
Yours etc.,
ABR, Dubai, UAE
