August 2000 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

August 2000 edition
The very idea that the "new" South Africa could be capable of staging a global sporting tournament of the magnitude of the World Cup is laughable.

Everybody surely knows that South Africa is now the "crime capital of the world", and that the entire infrastructure of the state is rapidly collapsing. Even to contemplate staging the World Cup in the country - as many FIFA officials alas did - seems so foolhardy that it borders on the criminal.

We know that a colleague of one of our Liverpool-supporting friends visited South Africa a few years ago when Liverpool were playing a friendly against Kaiser Chiefs (or one of the "kaffir" sides from the Transvaal), and had all his belongings stolen from out of his hotel room! With vastly more fans visiting from around the world such incidents would probably prove tame in comparison, as undoubtedly it would prove an "open season" for muggers, fraudsters and thieves - and without question there would be many deaths at the hands of gun and knife wielding robbers. Not only the supporters but the players too would be under constant threat - after all we cannot forget the two Pakistani cricketers who were mugged as they left their Sandton hotel a couple of years ago.

In the end it was the vote (or more accurately the abstention) of the New Zealand delegate, Mr. Charles Dempsey, which prevented this frightening scenario coming about. The 2006 World Cup will therefore now be played in the civilised and peaceful environs of Germany (the England bid having been killed stone-dead when the clown Tony Banks was put in charge of the campaign!). The whole civilised world therefore owes a big debt of gratitude to Charlie Dempsey.

If it is decided that it must be "Africa's turn" in 2010 then the tournament must surely be given to Morocco - then hopefully England in 2014 and Brazil in 2018. South Africa should only possibly be considered as host once civilised rule has been re-established in the country - and the heirs of Chicken Price and Gary Bailey make up the team!

JULY SPRINGBOK CLUB MEETING

In July the Springbok Club welcomed Mr. Dennis Delderfield as guest speaker, and we are pleased to report that this produced a very encouraging attendance. Dennis Delderfield, who is the editor of the "City of London & Docklands Times", and National Chairman of the "New Britain" party, gave an excellent speech, which one of the audience even described as inspiring. He told us how "New Britain" placed great emphasis on links with our kith and kin in the old White Commonwealth, and how they accordingly regularly celebrated "Australia Day", "Canada Day" and "New Zealand Day" - so it was therefore very appropriate that he was addressing the Springbok Club on "Rhodes & Founders Day"! He also emphasised the dangers posed to the UK by continuing EU membership, and reminded us how when twice during the 20th century Britain rescued the nations of continental Europe from aggression the Commonwealth had stood four-square behind the Crown - and reminded us particularly that Ian Smith had served as a pilot in the RAF!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS

The Springbok Club will be holding its 2000 AGM on Thursday 24th August. You are reminded that only fully paid-up members will be entitled to attend this meeting, and that only Life, Honorary and Full Members will be able to vote and stand for office. Membership fees are £500.00 for Life Members, £20.00 per annum for Full Members (discounted to £12.00 for senior citizens, the unemployed and bona fide students), and £5.00 per annum for Associate Members. All payments should be made payable to "Patriotic Press" and sent to BCM SAPAT, London WC1N 3XX, UK. If you wish to nominate or stand for office then confirmation should be sent in writing to arrive in plenty of time for the meeting. Full details of the location will be notified to all fully paid-up members nearer to the date.

Our Autumn Braai is planned for September, hopefully at a new venue in South-West London. Full details will be given next month.

We are also planning a special UDI Day dinner to be held in Croydon on Saturday 11th November, when hopefully we will be welcoming a special Rhodesian guest of honour as after-dinner speaker. Tickets will be limited, and will cover a 3-course meal plus wine. Exact prices will be finalised at our AGM, but if you are keen to attend please inform us as soon as possible, as we anticipate great interest in this event.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

BRANCH DEVELOPMENT

The Hampshire Branch of the Springbok Club will be formally launched on Sunday 6th August at "The Old Drum", Chapel Street, Petersfield. We have Peter Fisher to thank for organising the branch and this meeting, which will take place at lunchtime, commencing at approximately midday. All supporters and friends from Hampshire are given a warm and cordial invitation to attend.

Another informal "pub evening" gathering of the Kent Branch of the Springbok Club is being organised by Tony Waller for Sunday 20th August at the "Saxon Shore" on the Herne Bay beachfront. Again all supporters and friends from Kent (or indeed from anywhere else who are able to attend) are given a very welcome invitation.

Tony Waller will also be visiting Sweden during the week of August 6th to 12th, when he will be meeting with Lars Karnestam, and holding an informal meeting of the Stockholm Branch of the Springbok Club. If there is anyone from Sweden who would like to attend this get-together then please let us know as soon as possible, and we will put you into contact with Lars.

The Chairman of the Springbok Club visited Jersey last month, when he was able to meet our staunch supporter from the island, Jim Sinclair. Although only a small island, Jim is still very keen to form a branch there, so if anyone has any contacts on Jersey (or on any of the Channel Islands for that matter) who might be interested in the Club then please let us know.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE MEETING

The London Swinton Circle staged a very well-attended meeting which was addressed by Lord [Peter] Shore last month. Although a former Labour cabinet minister Lord Shore is still one of Parliament's most effective Eurosceptics, and gave a most informative and well-received speech to match.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

PATRIOTIC PRESS PRODUCTS

We are pleased to confirm that we still have a few full-sized real South African flags left in stock. They are being sold for £12.00 each, though the price is only £10.00 if collected personally at future Springbok Club events.

During that vital period of South African history during the end of 1989 and the beginning of 1990 we managed to publish an in-depth analysis of the developing situation in the country called "Patriotic Press's South African Newsletter". Although we had to cease publication when we were forced to relocate operations to the UK, we have recently been able to re-issue the eight editions which we originally produced. Although this publication is of course no longer of any current relevance, it is even so still of great historical interest, and can be purchased for £20.00 (£10.00 for Full Members of the Springbok Club) for a complete set of all eight issues.

All payments should be made to "Patriotic Press" (in Sterling) and sent to :  BCM SAPAT, London WC1N 3XX, U.K..

CON-MAN'S DEATH - A FURTHER RIDDLE

In last month's edition of the SCN we reported the news of the death of the notorious Brendan Willmer from AIDS. Willmer, of course, proved to be a constant trouble-maker for the patriotic movement in South Africa, right from his early days of sabotaging the "Save Rhodesia Campaign" in the late 1970's, until he performed similar disruptive actions amongst Durban ratepayers organisations in the early 1990's. He also, of course, unsuccessfully threatened to sue us for libel in 1989 concerning the essay "The 'Save Rhodesia Campaign' - why it failed" which we produced.

Now comes the equally surprising news of the death of Mr. Ed Thunstrom. A leading Durban attorney and fellow-member of the "Durban Parliament", we always regarded Thunstrom as a good supporter - until he disappointed us greatly by acting as Willmer's attorney in his failed libel action, and more particularly by the completely unnecessary vicious nature of his legal briefs. Following that we never had any further dealings with Thunstrom, but the suspicion abounded that his close relationship with the known homosexual Willmer was as much personal as political. It is not known at the moment whether Thunstrom also died of AIDS, but we will report back once we have any further news.

[If anybody would like to receive a copy of the essay "The 'Save Rhodesia Campaign' - why it failed", which details more about how Willmer sabotaged the Campaign from within, please let us know, and we'll gladly supply a copy.]

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

A regular feature in which we ask whether anyone knows the current whereabouts of a friend or colleague who has lost contact.

No.24 :  Mr. ROBERT OSWALD HALL of Graaff-Reinet

Robert Hall served in the SADF for a number of years, and was an active member of a number of ex-serviceman's organisations. He was also an early computer expert, and lectured computer science at the Natal Technikon. Although originally living in the Hillary district of Durban, he moved to Graaff-Reinet in the eastern Cape in the early 1990's in order to escape the declining chaos of inner-city South Africa. He was an active and very popular figure amongst patriotic circles in Durban, and a number of old colleagues would like to re-make contact with him.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

KINDRED SPIRIT

Dear Springbok Club,

Many thanks for your cyber-newsletter. I agree with everything in it, and hope you can assist people to leave Rhodesia, for as you say "the forces of darkness prevail".

Personally I feel that our Government here in Britain, with its politically correct mandate, has badly let down our kith and kin in South Africa and Rhodesia, and thrown decent civilised White people (our kith and kin) to a pack of braying savages. The behaviour of Blacks in Africa are well represented in the many no-go areas of the UK now emerging, and such long-established murder zones as the Black districts of Washington, USA.

I am really sorry to hear how White women in Zimbongoland are being raped and White farmers murdered so arbitarily. However, the Whites living there will never control what appears to be the natural and normal behaviour of Blacks, even though we regard this as highly deviant in civilised society.

Best wishes to you all,

Vivienne Parker, Norfolk, UK.

BRIDGET OVER TROUBLED WATERS

Sir,

I found the following statement in your cyber-newsletter so offensive that I had to comment:

"Those naive liberals who believed Mugabe's promises of 'reconciliation' in 1980 have in many cases signed their own death certificates by their stupidity."

I really don't know who you are or where you get the audacity from to make such a [sic] idiotic statement!

I am currently living in the USA and have a brother who is a hotel owner and farmer in Zimbabwe. The very suggestion that he is a naive liberal who believed Mugabe's promises in 1980 and signed his own death warrent by his stupidity is an atrocious thought.

I suggest you apologize to all the White farmers of Zimbabwe who are in this awful predicament and thank your lucky stars you are not suffering the same fate. I would also like to advise you to think carefully in future before making such frivolous statements. This is of no help to anyone.

Sincerely,

Bridget Cerny, Springbok Club of Southern California Vice President (Orange County).

OBITUARY

We have recently been greatly shocked to learn the news of the untimely death of Leon Strydom from cancer at a sadly young age.

Leon Strydom was a good friend and, in spite of certain idiosyncratic views, a good South African patriot. He was an active member of a number of White patriotic organisations, and was an early staunch supporter of "S.A.Patriot".

After we were forced to leave South Africa contact with Leon alas ceased, in spite of many attempts to re-establish contact with him. In late 1998 we heard that he was touring Europe on behalf of an Afrikaner-rights organisation however, and went out of our way to make telephonic contact with him whilst he was in Germany. He expressed a keen interest in coming over to the UK, but alas could give us only tentative dates. Even so we went out of our way to organise a number of provisional events for him to address, and even arranged a dinner in his honour. Alas he never came back to us to confirm his plans, and when we tried to contact him again in Germany we learnt that he had left giving no forwarding address; we were thus left with no alternative other than to cancel all the arrangements which we had made for him.

Perhaps his inconsiderate behaviour was caused by the early effects of his cancer, we shall never know. The fact remains, however, that he never had the decency to apologise to us for the troublesome way that he messed us around. This, perhaps even more than the tragically early age of his death, was Leon's true tragedy.

July 2000 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

July 2000 edition
The result of the recent Zimbabwe General Election was not unexpected. The vote was clearly rigged - not only through the much publicised intimidation, but also through the customary Black African practice of "stuffing" ballot boxes (clearly confirmed by the the alleged higher turnout than the earlier constitutional referendum, in spite of the stricter franchise).

Subsequent developments have been equally predictable, as farm thefts and invasions escalate. As we have said before, the most surprising thing about these attacks on the White population is that they didn't happen earlier. All Whites who stayed in the country after the fall of Rhodesia in 1979 have been living in a fool's paradise. The whole history of the African continent has shown that there is absolutely no place for Whites once the forces of darkness take control. Those naive liberals who believed Mugabe's promises of "reconciliation" in 1980 have in many cases signed their own death certificates by their stupidity.

But did the Movement for Democratic Change (MDC) offer any realistic hope? Alas we think not. Even if their potential rule could have proved any better than Mugabe's tyranny (which in the long run we doubt) there was absolutely no chance of them ever being allowed to obtain power. Now all those (both Black and White) who openly supported the MDC will suffer the consequences. There is only one solution. All Whites must leave the country as soon as they can, and let it descend to a basket-case of Sierra Leone proportions as soon as possible. Then, and only then, will a new breed of White Men be able to return to clear up the mess, and to re-establish Rhodesia.

Meanwhile in South Africa Hansie Cronje has at last made a full admission that he accepted bribes from Indian bookmakers in order to throw test and one-day international matches. Significantly one of the matches involved was a one-day international between South Africa and Pakistan, which was played for the so-called "Mandela Trophy" - named, evidently, after the convicted terrorist criminal. Is it any wonder that when a trophy is named after someone who spent 27 years in jails for conspiring to commit the most heinous terrorist crimes that all morality goes out the window?

PATRIOTIC FORUM MEETING

The SPRINGBOK CLUB joined forces with the LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE under the banner of the PATRIOTIC FORUM to provide a platform for a visiting American colleague, Bill Cooke, last month. Bill Cooke gave a most impressive speech in which he outlined how the English Civil War, the Glorious Revolution and the American War of Independence were all related and shared common values. He then went on to emphasis how the US and the UK, as well as many countries of the Commonwealth, still shared much in common today, and how we must therefore work more closely together to protect our mutual traditions, culture and interests.

Alas the turnout for this meeting was somewhat poorer than hoped and expected, but even so we were able to welcome a number of new friends, and were particularly pleased to be able to meet one long-standing supporter now based in New York. Another new supporter, Darren Green, took a number of photographs after this meeting, and has now placed them on his web-site. They can be viewed at :-

JULY SPRINGBOK CLUB MEETING

The Springbok Club will be staging a special meeting to mark "Rhodes and Founders Day" this year, the details of which are as follows:-

Date  :   Thursday 13th July 2000

Time  :   19.00 hrs for 19.30 hrs

Venue :   The MORPETH ARMS, 58 Millbank, Westminster, London S.W.1.
(Close to the Tate Gallery and Vauxhall Bridge  -  nearest underground station: Pimlico)
Guest Speaker :  Mr. Dennis Delderfield

Dennis Delderfield is the editor of the "City of London & Docklands Times", and was a Common Councilman of the City of London for 18 years. He is also the National Chairman of the "New Britain" movement, an organisation which, inter alia, seeks to strengthen links between the UK and those other Commonwealth countries populated by people of British stock, and which regularly stages events marking Canada Day, Australia Day and New Zealand Day. "New Britain" has also always been very supportive of their kith and kin who settled in and developed Southern Africa, so we therefore believe that Dennis Delderfield will be an ideal person to help us celebrate "Rhodes and Founders Day", and to remind us of the continuing importance of all our kith and kin standing united around the globe.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS

The Springbok Club will hold its 2000 AGM in August. You are reminded that only fully paid-up members will be entitled to attend this meeting, and that only Life, Honorary and Full Members will be able to vote and stand for office. Now will therefore be an ideal moment to join the Club if you are not already a member.

Our Autumn Braai is planned for September, hopefully at a new venue in South-West London. Full details will be given next month.

We are also planning a special UDI Day dinner to be held in Croydon on Saturday 11th November, when we will be welcoming a special Rhodesian guest of honour as after-dinner speaker. Tickets will be limited, and will cover a 3-course meal plus wine. Exact prices will be finalised at our AGM, but if you are keen to attend please inform us as soon as possible, as we anticipate great interest in this event.

Nick Maine, our erstwhile Australasian co-ordinator, tells us that he will have to go to hospital shortly for a knee operation. We wish him a speedy recovery. We are also happy to report that somebody has expressed great interest in becoming our new Australasian co-ordinator, and we hope to formalise this appointment shortly.

Tony Waller, our Kent Branch organiser, is arranging another ad hoc branch get-together at Herne Bay in August. If you are interested in attending please let us know and we'll tell you the precise details. It is also hoped that our embryo Sussex Branch will be staging a similar ad hoc get-together before the end of the year.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE MEETINGS

The London Swinton Circle staged a most interesting meeting last month when John Wilkinson MP (the Conservative member for Ruislip-Northwood) was their guest speaker. During question time the fact that Mr. Wilkinson had surprisingly questioned the deployment of British troops in Sierra Leone was raised. His answer, however, brought great encouragement to all friends of Rhodesia, for he stated that with the UK's current limited military resources it was important that we maximise our troop strength for a possible intervention in Zimbabwe. The fact that such a prominent Conservative back-bencher believes that British military action should be contemplated to restore law and order in that troubled land is a great source of encouragement for the future.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

REAL SOUTH AFRICAN FLAGS

We are pleased to confirm that we still have a small stock of full-sized real South African flags left. They are being sold for £12.00 each (payments should be made payable to "Patriotic Press" and sent to: BCM SAPAT, London WC1N 3XX, UK). The price will only be £10.00 if you intend to collect the flag personally at future Springbok Club events however, but we would ask overseas purchasers to add on an appropriate extra amount to cover overseas postage costs. Purchasers from North America should however contact Ferdi Fourie direct. E-mail him at: ffourie@cse.unl.edu to find precise details about supply.

CON-MAN MEETS HIS DOOM

We have recently been informed that the notorious Brendan Joseph Willmer died at the end of 1999.

Willmer first came to our attention when, together with Stanley Deane, Bernie Foyle and David Overton, he helped found the "Save Rhodesia Campaign" in Cape Town in 1977. Within a few months, however, Willmer had managed to oust both Deane and Foyle, and started to run the SRC as his own personal feifdom. In the days that followed many more worries surfaced about the man, both concerning his handling of the Campaign and its finances. Other pro-Rhodesian organisations (such as the "South African-Rhodesian Association" of Mrs. M.V. Maxwell and Eve Brierley) were needlessly antagonised, a "sister" organisation, the "South Africa First Campaign", was launched which wasted valuable SRC resources, and the central SRC aim of advocating a "No" vote in the January 1979 Referendum was compromised by a number of Willmer's ambiguous and ruinous tactics. More serious, however, were a number of financial scandals, particularly the fleecing of thousands of Rand from a number of well-meaning supporters, including David Overton and Mrs. H.H. Goodhind of Somerset West. After the fall of Rhodesia Willmer disappeared from the scene, and shortly thereafter the financial scandals surrounding the SRC hit the Cape Town press, including the fact that nothing was know about the R100,000 reward fund which had been set up to bring the terrorist Nkomo to justice after the Air Rhodesia Viscount atrocities.

Surprisingly Willmer turned up in Durban a couple of years leter, and even more incredibly managed to establish himself on the political scene there - in spite of the well-known and well-documented scandals from his Cape Town past. He re-established the SAFC, and even managed to gain office in the infant Conservative Party of SA - until the mysterious case of the missing receipt book, whereby he was suspected of collecting far more money for the Party than he could account for! The CP then at last dropped him, and the SAFC also began to flounder, whereupon he decided to jump on the bandwagon of various local White-rights pressure groups by founding his own "Civic Action League". In this he was astonishingly successful, mainly due to the fact that he managed to gain the support of a number of quaint but wealthy little old ladies - which was particularly surprising in view of the fact that he was widely believed to be homosexual. As during his SRC days in Cape Town he waged a vendetta campaign against all other organisations which he regarded as "rivals", and "S.A.Patriot" in particular bore the brunt of his vindictiveness. He put pressure on our original printer, Ian Long's Lithotone company, to stop printing for us, and boasted that he would destroy us - but of course he failed. After three to four years of trouble-making the Durban press broke two dramatic stories about him, firstly that he had previously been a leading member of several far-right and neo-Nazi organisations in the UK (one at least of which had expelled him because of his homosexuality), and secondly that he was still a British citizen, having failed to take out South African nationality, and was only in the country on a temporary work permit! At last the authorities decided to act, and he was deported from the country.

A few years later, however, during the early years of P.W.Botha's sell-out, he was mysteriously allowed back into South Africa. He immediately tried to sue "Patriotic Press" for libel concerning a privately-distributed essay which we had produced entitled "The 'Save Rhodesia Campaign' - why it failed", but after we ourselves took legal action to defend ourselves nothing more was heard of this threatened action. Bizarrely he even tried to deny that he had been deported from the country - in spite of the fact that we were able to produce 10 press reports confirming his deportation! He also objected to the fact that we implied he was homosexual. He evidently died of AIDS.

[If anybody would like to receive a copy of the essay "The 'Save Rhodesia Campaign' - why it failed", which details more about how Willmer sabotaged the Campaign from within, please let us know, and we'll gladly supply a copy.]

CAN YOU HELP?

One of our supporters has recently contacted us to tell us the following harrowing story from South Africa :-

"Some time ago I began corresponding with a family that are in a witness protection programme, and who are going through absolute hell - their case has turned into a nightmare. Through corruption and bribery their police dockets were lost. They have been receiving life threats. They have lost their home, have no transport and no financial support etc..

"I feel desperately sorry for them and have contacted every newspaper, nationally and internationally, to reveal this sad state of affairs. In the meantime I really feel that I would like to assist them in any way possible.

"May I ask you for your support in getting some financial assistance, no matter how small (a R2 donation can feed one child). I ask you to talk to people around the office, and try to get support for them.

"Please let me know if you are able to assist. I will give you an account number where deposits can be made."

If you would like to help or to learn more about this sad case please contact Christine direct at :

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

A regular feature in which we ask whether anyone knows the current whereabouts of a friend or colleague who has lost contact.

No.23 :  Mrs. Jo Allen

Jo Allen was an independent conservative Durban councillor, who dumbfounded most pundits by winning the Morningside seat during the 1988 municipal elections, although it was then considered something of a "Prog" stronghold. She proved a very popular and hard-working councillor, and also became an active member of the Durban Parliament.

OBITUARY

It was of course with great sadness that we recently learnt of the death of John Aspinall. Although much has been said about John Aspinall's gambling exploits and active work for wildlife conservation - and even his empathy with the Zulu people - he was also a great patriot who sympathised with the Whites of South Africa. He stood as a candidate for the Referendum Party in the Folkestone and Hythe Constituency during the 1997 General Election, and was known to be in contact with the Conservative Party of South Africa. He was evidently greatly influenced by the works of Rider Haggard, an Imperial Patriot in the very best sense of the term.

John Aspinall's joie de vivre, love of wildlife and basic patriotism was probably more in keeping with the 19th or 21st centuries rather than the retrogressive 20th century when he basically lived. The examples and spirit of his life should still inspire us for the future however.

June 2000 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

June 2000 edition
Recent events north of the Limpopo may have let us overlook a quite disturbing development happening in the "new" South Africa itself - the revelation that the captain of the South African cricket team, Hansie Cronje, plus several other members of the national side, have been implicated in a match-fixing scandal.
Although Cronje still denies receiving money from Far Eastern betting syndicates actually to "throw" matches (he only admits taking unauthorised money for match "predictions") few people believe him, especially when it is admitted that the entire side once held a team-meeting to decide whether to accept money to "throw" a one-day international against India (in any civilised society such an approach would have been dismissed out of hand by the team captain, without any recourse to consulting the entire team!).

We should never forget, however, that in 1992 it was this same South African cricket side, containing many of the same players, who issued a joint statement from Australia advocating a "Yes" vote in favour of national suicide in that year's constitutional referendum. By so doing they showed that personal wealth and glory was more important to them than the future existence of the country which gave them birth.

Is it any wonder therefore that these same self-centred individuals should now engage in such corrupt match-fixing activities? Under the control of the loathsome Ali Bacher South African cricket is rotten to the core, but we must ask ourselves which is the more evil - to accept money to fix the result of individual matches, or to use your position of influence to advocate the destruction of your own country.

Meanwhile the "Zimbabwe" cricket team are currently touring Britain. During the Second Test against England at Trent Bridge they appeared wearing black armbands in memory of Tony Oates, the White farmer who had been murdered by Mugabe's marauding savages, whose son Jason had represented Zimbongoland at junior level. At the same time, however, the same players were still prepared to wear the Marxist red star emblem of the Mugabe regime, and their party political "national" flag. The hypocrisy is dreadful.

THE SPRINGBOK CLUB SPRING BRAAI

The Springbok Club's Spring Braai went ahead at Swanley on the London/Kent border thanks to the kind generosity of Exco member Tony Waller in providing facilities.

The attendance, although higher than last year's, was still disappointing small however. Many supporters have commented in the past about how too many of our functions are serious in nature, and not enough are social - yet when we organise a more socially-orientated event the turnout tends to be far smaller. We know that the geographic location of this gathering was perhaps a little difficult to find (we've heard that one supporter intending to attend simply couldn't find the venue!) and so consequently we are planning to hold our Autumn Braai at a different location nearer to the centre of London. We trust therefore that far more of our supporters will be able to make a special effort to attend this event.

After the braai a video of the film "Africa Addio" was shown, which all present found most poignant and enlightening. Perhaps we will try to hold a further showing of this video some time in future for a larger audience.

PATRIOTIC FORUM MEETING

The Springbok Club has joined forces with a number of other organisations under the banner of the "Patriotic Forum" in order to host a special meeting featuring a most interesting visiting American guest speaker. The details are as follows:-

Date  :   Monday 12th June 2000

Time  :   18.30 hrs for 19.30 hrs

Venue :   The Star Tavern (Belgrave Mews West, Belgravia, London S.W.1.)
(This meeting will take place in the upstairs Function Room, where we have arranged for private bar facilities to be provided. We would therefore ask everyone to go straight up to this private Function Room as soon as they arrive.)

Guest Speaker :  Mr. Bill Cooke

Mr. Cooke comes from Baltimore in Maryland in the USA, and is the founder and chairman of the "Falklands Society", an Internet-based organisation which aims to foster US/UK friendship. He is currently studying law at the University of Baltimore, having previously read history and political science. He is a member both of the US Libertarian Party and the National Rifle Association. The theme of his talk will be relations between the United States, Britain and the Commonwealth.

As can be seen, the Function Room is booked for an hour prior to the actual commencement of the meeting, and this will give everyone the chance to meet and chat with Bill Cooke beforehand.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS

In July the Springbok Club aims to hold a dinner to mark Rhodes and Founders Day. This will probably be held sometime over the weekend of 14th/15th/16th July at a venue in south London (Croydon area), though precise details still have to be finalised. We have however already arranged for a most eminent after-dinner speaker, and needless to say full details will be given in the July edition of the SCN. If you are keen to attend please let us know as soon as possible however.

Nick Maine, our current Australasian co-ordinator, still wishes to hand over this position because of his many other commitments and advancing years (though he will continue to be active in the Gold Coast area). If you are from either Australia or New Zealand and would be willing to take over this position then again please let us know.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE MEETINGS

The London Swinton Circle (which is also an associate of the "Patriotic Forum") staged an most informative meeting last month when Andrew Hunter MP (the conservative member for Basingstoke) was their guest speaker. Mr. Hunter, who had previously exposed ANC/IRA terrorist links, spoke on the theme of "Terrorism and Security" and showed that he had an expert knowledge of the current nature of international terrorism, and the threat which it posed to western civilisation. During question time a member of the Springbok Club drew everyone's attention to the fact that the two so-called "neutral" inspectors of the IRA arms dumps were in fact terrorist supporters, Cyril Ramaphosa having been an active member of the ANC terrorist organisation, and Maarti Artisaari having been an apologist for the SWAPO terrorist gang whilst a United Nations representative to SWA.

On Thursday June 15th 2000 the London Swinton Circle will be staging another most interesting meeting in the House of Commons (Committee Room No.10, at 18.45 hrs for 19.00 hrs) when the guest speaker will be Mr. John Wilkinson MP, the Conservative member for Ruislip. His theme will be "The Challenge of Europe".

REAL SOUTH AFRICAN FLAGS

We are happy to be able to announce that we now have a small stock of full-sized real South African flags. They are being sold for £12.00 each (payments should be made payable to "Patriotic Press" and sent to: BCM SAPAT, London WC1N 3XX, UK). The price will only be £10.00 if you intend to collect the flag personally at future Springbok Club meetings however, but we would ask overseas purchasers to add on an appropriate extra amount to cover overseas postage costs. Purchasers from North America should however contact Ferdi Fourie direct. E-mail him at: ffourie@cse.unl.edu to find precise details about supply.

[We must apologise for the slight delay in forwarding flags to those who have already made orders. As you will no doubt realise we have been very pre-occupied with arranging meetings etc. over the last few weeks, and as a result the processing of correspondence has experienced consequent delays. We anticipate forwarding everything in the next few days however.]

PATRIOTIC PRESS'S SOUTH AFRICAN NEWSLETTER

During that vital period of South African history during the end of 1989 and the beginning of 1990 we managed to publish an in-depth analysis of the developing situation in the country called "Patriotic Press's South African Newsletter". Although we were forced to cease publication when we were forced to relocate operations to the UK, we have recently received a request for a full set of all eight editions of this publication. This, alas, meant that we had to convert all the relevant data-files to our current more advanced Desk-Top Publishing system - but having done this we wonder whether any other supporters would like to purchase a set?

Although this publication is of course no longer of any current relevance, it is even so still of great historical interest. We are now therefore selling them for £20.00 (£10.00 for Full Members of the Springbok Club) for a complete set of all eight editions. Payment should be made to "Patriotic Press" (in Sterling) and sent to :  BCM SAPAT, London WC1N 3XX, U.K..

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

A regular feature in which we ask whether anyone knows the current whereabouts of a friend or colleague who has lost contact.

No.22 :  Mr. KURT GARZ

Kurt Garz lived in the Hillary area of Durban, and worked for Hulletts at their factory in Rossburgh/Clairmont. At the time which we knew him, in the late 1980's, his wife had just given birth to their first child. He was a good friend and colleague, and we would like to make re-contact if possible.

RECOMMENDED WEB-SITE

At the present moment, when attempts are being made to destroy the RUC as a result of the infamous Patten Report in order to appease terrorists, it is encouraging to learn of an active campaign to defend this brave and highly-respected police force. The "Campaign to Defend the RUC" is a UK-wide campaign launched in September 1999, and run by volunteers. It is both non-party and non-sectarian. They run an excellent web-site on which "Defend the RUC" Petition Forms (run in conjunction with the Daily Telegraph) can be down-loaded. It can be accessed at :-

May 2000 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

May 2000 edition
The recent intervention of British military forces into Sierra Leone was not only a great inspiration in itself, but it also clearly demonstrated the encouraging way that events may develop in the "dark continent" in the days to come.

Few can doubt that the deployment of British troops in order to restore law and order and to crush tyranny in Sierra Leone was right (the only surprise was that the Blair administration possessed the "backbone" to undertaken this necessary action). When chaos engulfs the primitive states of Africa (as is increasingly the case) it is not the UN nor NATO nor the EU which can and should intervene to restore order, but the Former Colonial Powers - which in the case of Sierra Leone means Britain.

We must not forget, however, that there is currently another part of Africa which was once in the British sphere of influence, but which is now in the grip of a primeval tyrant and where anarchy is increasing reigning supreme - namely the Robert Mugabe-state of Zimbabwe. The situation there, moreover, warrants immediate British military intervention even more than in Sierra Leone, because there are large numbers of our own kith and kin under attack. We should not only be voicing our full support for British military action in Sierra Leone against the thug Foday Sankoh therefore, but should also use it as a precedent in order to advocate similar action against Mugabe.

We have been criticised in the past for our advocation of renewed European imperial rule in Africa, and many people have told us we were being "unrealistic". We accept, of course, that the chances of the Blair administration maintaining a military and administrative presence in Sierra Leone are remote, but even so recent events have proved catagorically that the Former Colonial Powers CAN re-establish control in their former spheres of influence in Africa. Rhodesia CAN be re-born.

MAY SPRINGBOK CLUB FUNCTION

The Springbok Club will be staging its Spring Braai and a video-showing on Monday 29th May 2000. It will be held at the home of Mr. Tony Waller at: 1 West View Road, Crockenhill, Swanley, Kent, BR8 8JP (this is approximately 10 to 15 minutes walk from Swanley Railway Station), and will take place throughout the evening, commencing at around 18.00 hrs.

Food and braai facilities will be provided, and the charge will be free for Full Members of the Springbok Club, £2.50 per head for Associate Members, and £5.00 per head for non-members (which should be made payable to "Patriotic Press" and sent to: BCM SAPAT, London WC1N 3XX). Friends and supporters are of course welcome to bring along their own food, in which case no charge will be levied. All attendees, however, are asked to provide their own liquid refreshment.

In order to gauge anticipated numbers we would like everyone intending to attend to contact us in advance if possible, either via e-mail, or by 'phoning Tony Waller at either: 01322-666303 (home) or 0208-8503631 (business). Needless to say full instructions about how to reach the venue can be obtained in this way. Friends and supporters are however welcome to turn up on the day, but of course no food can be guaranteed in these circumstances.

After the braai there will be a video-showing of the highly-acclaimed film "Africa Addio".

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS

Paul Sissons has decided to leave the Springbok Club Executive Committee because of his other commitments and the fact that he finds it increasing difficult to travel to London from East Anglia for Exco meetings. He continues to be a keen and supportive member of the SC however, and indeed is trying to establish a branch in East Anglia.

In his place we have been most pleased to welcome Mr. Peter Fisher from Hampshire onto the Executive Committee. Peter has been a keen and active member of the SC for some time, and we do not doubt that his energy and enthusiasm will be of great benefit.

As well as these encouraging moves towards the establishment of formal branches in both East Anglia and Hampshire, we have also recently been contacted by friends interested in forming branches in Lancashire, Sussex and the Chilterns. If you live in any of these areas and would like to become more active then please let us know.

As we stated last month, Nick Maine, the current Australasian co-ordinator of the SC, wishes to hand over this position because of his many other commitments (though he will continue to be active with his Gold Coast Branch). If you are from either Australia or New Zealand and would be willing to take over this position then again please let us know.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

ANTI-MUGABE DEMONSTRATIONS

As supporters will know, we have been actively publicising various protests in London against the occupation and seizure of White-owned farms by Mugabe. We hear that these demonstrations are likely to be on-going, and needless to say we will continue to circulate supporters with details as soon as they become known to us. We must emphasise that we are not directly involved with the organising of these protests ourselves however, and that we therefore cannot be held responsible for their composition. One complaint which we have received concerns the presence of people carrying the flag of the Mugabe-regime on these demonstrations; it does appear to be strange and hypocritical for people to do this, and a slap in the face for those Whites being subjected to violence from Mugabe's thugs (indeed the same criticism can be levelled at the current "zimbabwe" cricket side touring England, who shed "crocodile tears" about the chaotic situation "back home", but who are still prepared to bear the flag and red-star emblem of the Mugabe regime!). The organisers of these protests would do well to prevent the provocative presence of these offensive Zimbongoland flags in these demonstrations.

We have also recently learnt of similar protests being staged in Canada and in Pretoria, and needless to say will circulation details of these also as soon as they are known.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE MEETINGS

The London Swinton Circle (which is also an associate of the "Patriotic Forum") staged an excellent meeting earlier this month when their guest speaker was Mr. Philip Benwell, the National Chairman of the "Australian Monarchist League". Mr. Benwell gave a riveting speech, in which he not only inspired everyone by his accounts of the successful campaign waged by pro-Monarchists during the recent Australian Constitutional Referendum, but also went on to advocate a closer grouping of what he described as the "Core Commonwealth" - in other words those Commonwealth nations who recognised the Queen as head of state. He also proved to be totally knowledgeable about the dangers posed to Britain by continued membership of the EU, and about how this was the root cause for the apparent alienation being felt by many Australians, which had resulted in the unfortunate upsurge of pro-republican sympathies in that country which his organisation was battling against. Indeed Philip Benwell turned out to be a speaker at the "Save Our Sovereignty" demonstration in London which we advertised in the April edition of the SCN (which we hear turned out to be a good success). During question time a member of the Springbok Club asked Mr. Benwell what his attitude was to the current plight being faced my our mutual kith and kin in the former Rhodesia, and he responded by expressing general support and stating that it would be far easier to aid them if the "Core Commonwealth" which he envisaged was already in existence.

On Thursday May 25th 2000 the London Swinton Circle will be staging another most important meeting in the House of Commons (Committee Room No.5, at 18.45 hrs for 19.00 hrs) when the guest speaker will be Mr. Andrew Hunter MP. As well as being a proven great friend of the Unionist cause in Ulster, Andrew Hunter was also a very good friend of South Africa during the days of civilised rule. The theme of his talk will be "terrorism and security".

REQUEST FROM AMERICAN ACADEMIC

An American academic, Ben Jenkins, has recently contacted us and asked if we could pass on a request for assistance. He writes as follows :-

"Hello, my name is Ben Jenkins, and I am an academic researcher in the U.S. who is continuing work on an analysis of the connection between ethnicity and nationality. To this end, I am attempting to contact South Africans, Rhodesians, and other Sub-Saharan Africans to ask for their assistance. The way you could help me is by completing a short questionnaire looking at the characteristics that make nations "strong" (both powerful and cohesive). The survey is designed to be completed over email and could be returned, with any questions, to jenkinsb@grinnell.edu ".

We hope that as many of our supporters as possible will be able to help Ben Jenkins in this regard. Simply contact him at the email address given to obtain his questionnaire.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

OFFER OF ACCOMMODATION IN THAILAND

A supporter has also recently forwarded us the following most generous offer of accommodation assistance for those fleeing the Mugabe terror which he has received from a colleague now living in Thailand, Mr. Chris Hill. He writes as follows :-

"If some of you are worried or anxious about where to put your kids or old folks, we can offer a bedroom (en suite), a nice SAFE home on a temporary basis, 'til you can make permanent arrangements. We won't charge you for this, but (thinking of a friend of a friend who stayed with us this month) would be grateful if you could consider 'overseas phone bills' before just getting on the phone.

"We're not terribly geared to very little 'uns, (babies) and I'm afraid, not equipped for coping with those who are seriously infirm - that's not a NO - but we would need a medical history so that we could clear this with the doctors to see if we could cope.

"Sorry, but you would have to arrange and pay your own travel here - anyway, a safe house in a safe country for a couple of folks. Let me know."

We would like to compliment Chris Hill on this most selfless act of generousity. He can be contacted at :

PHONEY NEWS-GROUP

A few months ago we were recommended to join a news-group called the "Rhodesia OneList", which seemingly was an Internet forum for those who believed in the Rhodesian cause and wished to discuss relevant issues - as the very name would imply.

A number of our supporters joined this news-group as a result of this recommendation, but almost immediately were subjected to inexplicable insults and personal abuse from two individuals already on this news-group. Furthermore, various postings from these two trouble-makers suggested that they by no means supported the Rhodesian cause, and indeed in several incidences seemed to be pro-terrorist. Complaints were of course subsequently made to the so-called "Administrator" of this list, but to no avail, and indeed she tended to side with the two characters who were causing all the trouble.

We would certainly like to get to the bottom of this phoney news-group therefore. Anyone who has any information can contact us in the strictest confidence, and if anyone would be prepared to take positive action then again please let us know. We can't allow these traitors to hi-jack the Rhodesia name.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

A regular feature in which we ask whether anyone knows the current whereabouts of a friend or colleague who has lost contact.

No.21 :  Mr. CLIVE CRAWFORD

Clive Crawford was born and brought-up in Kenya, but his family moved to Rhodesia when colonial rule ended. He subsequently moved to Natal to take up an appointment with the Durban City Council, and lived in Howick. His father subsequently left Rhodesia after the fall of that country in 1979, and went to live in Pietermaritzburg. Clive was a great patriot and committed Christian. He was an active member of the National Forum and other patriotic groups in the Durban area, and also a number of evangelical Christian organisations (as were his wife and father). Friends would be very keen learn where Clive and his family now are, and if possible to re-establish contact with them.

April 2000 edition
Since our March edition events in "Zimbabwe" have taken a most dramatic turn. Inter alia we have recently witnessed:-

1) A blatent disregard for the referendum result by the Mugabe regime.
2) A brutal attack on a peaceful protest march through "Harare".
3) The demonising of the opposition "Movement for Democratic Change" and the murder of many of their supporters by agents of the Mugabe regime.
4) The seizure and opening of a diplomatic bag bound for the British High Commission by the "Zimbabwe" authorities, in total disregard to all accepted rules of diplomacy.
5) The illegal invasion, occupation and ransacking of White-owned farms around the country.
6) The terrorising of White farmers, resulting in the deaths [at the time of writing] of two innocent farmers.

These events have proven beyond all shadow of doubt that the appropriately-nicknamed Zimbongoland is now in a complete state of primeval chaos, and that the current administration is nothing more than a savage despotic regime of the type which was once the rule throughout Africa, prior to the arrival of White civilisation.

This however should not surprise us. In the late 1970's those of us active in the "Save Rhodesia Campaign" warned of the inevitable disasters which would occur if Rhodesians voted for Black rule on 30th January 1979. Indeed in the first ever edition of "S.A.Patriot" we stated that "...sooner or later the 'Roosters' [the symbol of Mugabe's ZANU/PF] would come home to roost.". Our only surprise is that is has taken 21 years for this sorry state of affairs to come about.

Some have argued that those farmers and other Whites who have remained in Zimbongoland have been de facto collaborators with the Mugabe regime, and therefore only have themselves to blame when things go wrong, and moreover that they were mainly the sell-outs who voted for Black rule back in 1979 and therefore have brought these present disasters upon themselves. There may be a lot of truth in this argument (indeed it is reported that several of the leading White supporters of the "Movement for Democratic Change" had formerly sucked-up to the wretched Mugabe during the early days of "Zimbabwe"), but this is not the attitude which we take. Those farmers and other Whites now under such savage attack from the forces of darkness are our kith and kin, and deserve our full support regardless of any past mistakes.

Some have also advocated full support for the "Movement for Democratic Change" of Morgan Tswangirai, but again we cannot agree. The whole history of Black rule in Africa has shown that, to a greater or lesser degree, successor Black leaders tend to be just as unacceptable once in power as the despots who they overthrew; was Idi Amin any better than Milton Obote? Whites who parade around in MDC t-shirts saying "Zimbabwe - time for change", or who proclaim "Save Zimbabwe" completely miss the point; it is the entire revolting concept of "Zimbabwe" which we must aim to DESTROY.

The only solution to the present anarchy and savagery in that piece of land between the Limpopo and the Zambezi is for a return of civilised White rule - and this means in the short term intervention by the formal colonial power. We should not forget, however, that there is still a vibrant Rhodesian diaspora around the world who were NOT prepared to surrender principle by remaining in Zimbongoland. In the long term Rhodesia must be reborn.

MARCH SPRINGBOK CLUB MEETING

The Springbok Club held one of its most important ever meetings in March, when we welcomed Mr. Chris Cocks, author of the acclaimed book "Fireforce", as our guest speaker. Chris Cocks gave a rivetting speech, in which he outlined his Rhodesian background and his experiences during the Bush War. He also gave his opinions about the mistakes which were made in the conduct of the War, particularly the fact that for far too long it was regarded merely as a policing operation. Most importantly, however, he left no-one in any doubt about the bravery and skills of the Rhodesian forces who fought for so long in defence of civilisation on the African continent.

Another most encouraging outcome from this meeting was the presence of several new faces in the audience, many of whom were connected with the Rhodesian Army Association and the British Commonwealth and Empire Museum. Indeed we are now planning to stage a Springbok Club trip to this museum early in 2001.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB EVENTS

In view of the fact that we anticipate having a busy June we have decided not to hold any specific event during April, but rather to combine our planned Spring braai and video-showing of the film "Africa Addio". This will therefore be held in mid-May, but although we can still use our previous venue in Swanley for this event, this has alas proved to be geographically difficult for supporters to reach in the past, and numbers have consequently proved disappointingly poor. We are therefore looking for an alternative venue nearer to the centre of London (or near to a convenient tube station). We need a location both with braaing and video-showing facilities of course, so if can help in any way please contact us at: springbk@netcomuk.co.uk

On June 12th the Springbok Club will be joining with a number of other organisations to provide a platform for Mr. Bill Cooke from the United States, who will be visiting the UK at the time. Mr. Cooke is the founder and chairman of the "Falklands Society", an Internet-based movement which aims to foster good relations between the United States and the United Kingdom (and indeed all of the British Commonwealth). Precise details for this meeting have still to be finalised, but will be given in the May edition of the SCN. The Springbok Club itself anticipates welcoming a Norwegian supporter as our guest speaker towards the end of June, and again more details will be given next month.

BRANCH NEWS

The Kent Branch of the Springbok Club held a small but happy "pub evening" on the North Kent coast last month, and it is hoped to make this a regular event.

We now have keen supporters actively trying to form branches in all of the following areas of the UK:-
Wiltshire, Lancashire/Cheshire, Glasgow, Co.Down, East Anglia, Sussex, Hampshire, London, Jersey and the Chilterns.

If you live in any of these areas and would like to be put into contact with other supporters then please let us know at the usual address.

Alas we were rather premature last month when we announced that our Australian co-ordinator, Nick Maine, had recently re-married - as now we hear that he has only become engaged! Our very best wishes to him even so! (Nick has intimated that in view of his new domestic situation and the fact that he is heavily involved with a number of indigenous Australian movements it might be a good idea if he was to relinquish his position as our Australasian co-ordinator. If there is any other supporter in Australasia who would like to take over this position then please let us know).

Ferdi Fourie, our North American co-ordinator, is steadily building up support, so again if you live in North America and would like to become more active please contact Ferdi direct at: ffourie@cse.unl.edu

We have also been receiving extra Scandinavian support recently, particularly from Norway. Our Scandinavian co-ordinator, Lars Karnestam, is alas still not fully on-line to the Internet, but any Scandinavian supporters can always contact him via us.

ANTI-MUGABE FARM SEIZURE DEMONSTRATION

An ad hoc group of ex-Rhodesians organised a protest march from Trafalgar Square to the Zimbabwe High Commission in London on April 9th, in order to protest against the occupation and seizure of White-owned farms in Zimbongoland, and the fact that the Mugabe regime was encouraging these illegal acts. Several Springbok Club supports were involved with this demonstration, with estimates varying from about 500 to over 1000 people present. As well as ex-Rhodesians, South Africans and Britons taking part, it was also most encouraging to learn that that were a good sprinkling of Australians, New Zealanders and even Kenyans present, which made it a fully united-Commonwealth protest.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

SAVE OUR SOVEREIGNTY MARCH & RALLY

Our friends from the Western Goals Institute have recently told us about another important demonstration march to be held in London shortly. This will take place under the "Save Our Sovereignty" banner in order to protest against the growing encroachment of the EU on all aspects of national life. This event will take place on Sunday 23rd April, and the march will begin at Hungerford Bridge at 2.00 p.m., proceeding via Parliament Square to Trafalgar Square, where a rally will take place featuring some notable guest speakers at approximately 3.00 p.m.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE MEETING

Our friends from the London Swinton Circle recently held a most interesting meeting at the Houses of Parliament, where their guest speaker was the Rev. Martin Smyth, the Ulster Unionist MP for Belfast South. The Rev. Martin Smyth, of course, subsequently challenged David Trimble for the leadership of the Ulster Unionist Party, obtaining a very creditable 43.3% of the vote, thus demonstrating the extremely high calibre of speakers that the London Swinton Circle is now able to attract. It was also most encouraging to note the great interest which Martin Smyth displayed when the forthcoming Springbok Club meeting featuring Chris Cocks as guest speaker was announced.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

REAL SOUTH AFRICAN FLAGS

We are happy to be able to announce that a small stock of full-sized real South African flags has just reached us. We can assure all those who have already placed orders that we will be contacting them in this regard during the next few days, but if anyone else would like to purchase one whilst stocks last they should send £12.00 (made payable to "Patriotic Press") to: BCM SAPAT, London WC1N 3XX, UK. (The price will only be £10.00 if you want to collect the flag personally at a future Springbok Club meeting, but of course overseas purchasers should add on an appropriate extra amount to cover overseas postage costs). Purchasers from North America, however, should contact Ferdi Fourie direct. E-mail him at:
ffourie@cse.unl.edu to find precise details about supply.

A CORNERED RAT SQUEAKS

In the March edition of the SCN we carried what we then thought was a "scoop" about the close links of a former colleague, Mr. Arthur Kemp, with two recently exposed agents working for the "new" South African security services - Cliff Saunders and Jani Allen.

As many supporters will know, this revelation resulted in a quite hysterical reaction from young Mr. Kemp, in which he not only denied these facts, but also listed a catalogue of quite bizarre lies about us, which looked as if they had come straight from a badly-researched security services dossier. Unbeknown to him, however, one of our supporters had managed to access an article from the "Mail & Guardian" web-site, which, although it meant that our original revelation wasn't such a "scoop" after all, fully confirmed that young Mr. Kemp had indeed been working for the South African security services.

Perhaps unsurprisingly this subsequent revelation which we brought to light resulted in an even more hysterical circular from young Mr. Kemp, in which he claimed that this report had been proven untrue because - wait for it - he had written a letter denying it himself! Wow! It was significant to note, however, that although young Mr. Kemp denied that he was working for the "new" South African authorities he did not deny what we would regard as a far more damning revelation, namely that he had turned "state's evidence" in the show-trial against Clive Derby-Lewis.

Now another supporter has contacted us to tell us more details about how young Mr. Kemp first came to work for the Security Police. This supporter was evidently at a braai in Pretoria in 1988 or 1989 where young Arthur Kemp was also present. Almost everyone at this braai seemed to be very wary of the young man, and warned our supporter to be careful of him as he was evidently a member of the Security Police. One person, furthermore, told him how he originally came to be recruited. A few years earlier, when young Mr. Kemp was serving his national service in the SAP, he was arrested, together with Prof. Johan Schabort of the BBB, after a public meeting in Jo'burg (it is believed, though it is not certain, that this related to an interview with Prof. Schabort which young Arthur Kemp published in his short-live magazine "Kommando"). Young Mr. Kemp practically fainted [the exact words used] when he was arrested, and subsequently, although no charges were eventually laid, was given the choice of either completing the rest of his national service in SWA on the Angola border, or else becoming an undercover security policeman with the task of "spying" on parties opposed to the NP government's sell-out policies. He chose the latter.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

A regular feature in which we ask whether anyone knows the current whereabouts of a friend or colleague who has lost contact.

No.20 :  Mrs. GERARD GULSTON

Gerard Gulston worked for the Durban Corporation, and was a very quiet, though dedicated, supporter of several patriotic organisations in the Durban area. He was also a very keen - and highly respected - member of the Durban Parliamentary Debating Society ("The Durban Parliament").

RECOMMENDED WEB-SITE

Anthony C. LoBaido is a renowned international journalist working for the Internet news service "WorldNetDaily". He has taken a particular interest in events unfolding in Southern Africa, and has written a number of profound articles concerning developments in the sub-continent, all of which are well worth reading. OBITUARY

It was with great sadness that we recently learned of the death of Mrs. Betsie Verwoerd. Our sadness is only tempered by the knowledge that she died within months of her 99th birthday, and left 7 children, 28 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.

Best known as the wife of that great South African Prime Minister Hendrick F. Verwoerd, Betsie Verwoerd was no less of an intellectual giant herself. Born as Elizabeth Schoombee on 17th May 1901, she attended the University of Stellenbosch, where she gained a Master's degree in Afrikaans-Nederlands. She married Hendrick Verwoerd in 1927, and for the rest of his life was a devoted wife, mother, confidant and soulmate to him. After his tragic assassination in 1966 she maintained a keen interest in national affairs, and of course became increasingly unhappy at the betrayal of her husband's work by subsequent NP governments. She joined the Conservative Party of South Africa at its formation, and attended the mass CP rally at the Voortrekker Monument in Pretoria in 1990, although by then 89. She ended her life at the would-be self-sufficient Orania community on the banks of the Orange River, a project which was keenly supported by several of her children.

Betsie Verwoerd was also a subscriber to "S.A.Patriot". Her support for an English-language patriotic magazine should not be surprising however, for, in spite of groundless allegations by political opponents, Henrick Verwoerd himself was in no anti-British, being in reality an advocate of White unity. One of the last organisations which Dr. Verwoerd address was the "Sons of England", when he told them that just as he wanted to protect and defend his Afrikaans culture and identity, so they too had the right to defend their British traditions and identity - whilst at the same time still giving first loyalty to the South African nation as a whole.

March 2000 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

March 2000 edition
It is difficult to decide whether our biggest emotion resulting from the outcome of the recent zimbabwe constitutional referendum should be euphoria or surprise.

Certainly the unexpected result should fill us all full of pleasure, but even so it is the surprise nature of the outcome which is perhaps more significant.

Three important factors concerning this referendum should be born in mind:-

1) Undoubtedly the Mugabe regime tried to rig the result as much as they could, and it is therefore obvious that the actual voting figures were far more emphatically in favour of a "No" vote than the official 46%/54% breakdown suggests.

2) The "official" population of zimbabwe is 11 million, with 5 million allegedly entitled to vote, yet in the event only 1.3 million attended the polls - in spite of intense pressure from both sides to vote. This undoubtedly means that the true population of the country is only a fraction of the official "propaganda" figure (AIDS has undoubtely taken its toll), and furthermore this is also probably the case in all sub-Saharan African countries.

3) The Mugabe regime fought an overtly "racist" campaign (with press advertisements showing a White couple wearing "Vote No" t-shirts alongside the slogan "they wish to be kings and queens again"). The outcome therefore clearly shows that - consciously or subconsciously - the vast majority of Blacks are willing to accept a return to White rule. This certainly dovetails with several recent reports about Blacks approaching Ian Smith to return to the political arena.

We have often been "ridiculed" in the past for our confidence that the White man will one day resume his proper position of authority in Africa, but the result of the recent zimbabwe referendum certainly suggests that this situation may be a lot closer than many people suspect.

FEBRUARY SPRINGBOK CLUB MEETING

The February Springbok Club meeting, which was held in an informal atmosphere in a most pleasant central London pub, proved an encouraging success. It was addressed by Brendon Jones, who had recently returned from his first trip back to Cape Town for 5 years, and amongst other things he informed us that, although over the last 5 years he had been proud to say that the state of South African roads were in better condition than those in the UK, since returning to South Africa he would now have to retract this statement, as no money was visibly being spent on the infrastructure of the country. He went on to tell us that a man he formerly worked for had once positively advised him that the economy of South Africa would return to its former glory within five to seven years after a sharp decline and consequent rise, based upon the promises of the "new" South Africa. That was 9 years ago, and it is still in decline. We would like to thank Brendon for what proved to be a most absorbing and informative address.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

MARCH SPRINGBOK CLUB MEETING

We are going to be most honoured and privileged to welcome as our special guest speaker for our March meeting none other than Mr. Chris Cocks. The details of this meeting are as follows:-

Date :  Saturday 18th March 2000

Time :  19.00 hrs. for 19.30 hrs.

Venue:  The MORPETH ARMS, 58 Millbank, Westminster, London SW1 (in the upstairs function room).
The Morpeth Arms is close to both the Tate Gallery and Vauxhall Bridge, and the nearest Underground station is Pimlico.

Chris Cocks was born and brought up in Rhodesia. In 1976 he joined the Rhodesian Light Infantry as a National Serviceman, and spent the next four years fighting in the Bush War. He served in the elite 3 Commando of the RLI which specialised in the military tactic of "Fireforce", whereby troops were helicoptered or parachuted into an area immediately after terrorist presence had been reported, rising through the ranks to become lance corporal, stick leader and Troop Commander. After the fall of Rhodesia Chris held a variety of jobs before moving to South Africa where, in 1998, he co-founded the publishing business "Covos-Day Books". He has written three books himself, the most famous being "Fireforce", an account of his experiences during the Bush War.

We anticipate great interest in this meeting, and would ask all supporters, if possible, to let us know in advance if they intend to attend. There will be a small charge of £3.00 per head for admission (though of course free for Honorary, Life and Full Members of the "Springbok Club", and £1.50 per head for Associate Members), which may be paid at the door.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

BRANCH NEWS

Unfortunately a small "hiccup" has meant that the Kent Branch "pub evening" has had to be postponed until the end of the month. This is now expected to take place in either Canterbury or Herne Bay. If you are interested in attending please let us know and we'll forward you precise details once everything has been finalised.

Brendon Jones is currently in the process of forming a branch of the Springbok Club in Wiltshire. If you are keen to become involved then again please let us know.

Lars Karnestam, our Stockholm Branch organiser and Scandinavian co-ordinator, has informed us that he's about to go on-line to the Internet. We hope to be able to let you know his e-mail address next month, so that all Scandinavian supporters can contact him.

It looks as if a formal branch of the Springbok Club may be formed in California shortly. If you have contacts there who may be interested then please contact our American co-ordinator, Ferdi Fourie, direct at :  ffourie@cse.unl.edu

Finally we have recently heard that our Australian co-ordinator, Nick Maine, has just re-married! Big congratulations therefore from everyone at the Springbok Club!

----------------------------------------------------------------------

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE MEETING

Our friends at the London Swinton Circle recently held a meeting at the Houses of Parliament where their guest speaker was Michael Colvin, the Conservative MP for Romsey. Michael Colvin, a moderate Eurosceptic, spoke well, and in question time afterwards a Springbok Club official debated with him over his assertion that a Europe-wide defence industry was necessary in order to compete with the United States, citing the success of "Armscor" as an example of how a relatively small country could establish its own highly-effective defence industry.

A couple of days after this meeting, however, we were all shocked to hear the news that Michael Colvin and his wife had been killed in a terrible fire which swept through their mansion in Hampshire. We therefore extend our sincerest and heartfelt sympathies to the family of Michael Colvin.

The London Swinton Circle can be contacted at :  swincirc@aol.com

THE PLOT THICKENS ...

Southern Cross Africa News has recently carried a most interesting story in which they reveal that a letter has been leaked from Cliff Saunders, the former SABC journalist who enjoyed a very right-wing reputation, in which he demanded R100,000 in back-pay for "services rendered" from Joe Nhlanhla, the head of the "new" South African security services. Inter alia, Saunders evidently mentions the fact that he set-up Jani Allen, the former Sunday Times journalist, to spy on the Inkatha Freedom Party.

Saunders stayed in London during the mid-1990's, when by all accounts he was closely associated with Mr. Arthur Kemp, another alleged right-wing South African "exile".

Arthur Kemp had previously been a great friend of S.A.Patriot, writing for us pseudonymiously during the mid-1980's. In spite of this fact, however, he made no attempt to contact us after he moved to London, and when we managed to trace him he informed us that he did not want to be associated with us as we had allegedly "changed our political views". This of course was a ludicrous claim, as anyone who knows us can confirm. We have not been alone in these strange allegations of Kemp however, for he has said much the same about a former close associate in the National Student's Federation's UCT affiliate the Moderate Students Movement, Lance Terry, and has also made a number of unsubstantiated attacks against leading members of the CP of SA.

Kemp furthermore wrote a most strange and universally "panned" book on the obscure AWB outfit, exaggerating its size and importance out of all proportion. When we confronted him with this criticism after he showed us draft copies of its contents in early 1990 his response was that "if I didn't exaggerate its size then the book would not be publishable". This book was eventually produced shortly prior to the 1992 South African Referendum, when it undoubtedly generated great publicity for this joke organisation, which was used by the NP-establishment in order to divide and discredit authentic opposition to their sellout proposals. Most ominously, however, Kemp was assisted in writing this book by none other than - surprise, surprise - Jani Allen, who even provided him with a skimpily-dressed picture of herself for publication!

There are also several unanswered questions about Kemp's role in the arrest and subsequent show-trial of that great South African patriot, Clive Derby-Lewis. Significantly, furthermore, in spite of claiming to be an "exile" in the UK, he voluntarily returned to the "new" South Africa in the late 1990's. We would be very interested to receive any further information about this sinister saga.

NEW BOOK

We have been asked to point out that Ronnie Anderson edited the book "Palm Wine and Leopard's Whiskers" (which actuallly contains the reminiscences of over 40 Eastern Nigerian colonials) rather than writing it himself. Furthermore the name of his outlet in the UK is "Yesterdays Books", not "Yesteryears Books"!

It can therefore be obtained from: "Yesterday's Books", The Lodge, 6 Cecil Avenue, Bournemouth, Hampshire (repeat HAMPSHIRE), BH8 9EH, price £25.00 a copy. For details of where to obtain copies in the rest of the world please contact Ronnie direct at: ronlen@xtra.co.nz

No.19 :  Mrs. BETTY DANTES

Betty Dantes used to run a "milkshake bar" on Durban's Dairy Beach ("surfer's paradise") with her husband. It is believed that her husband died a few years ago, but we would still be very keen to make contact with her again.

Rather than an actual web-site this month, two most interesting web-pages.
The first is a very encouraging article from the Canadian newspaper "National Post", in which they advocate ethnic rather than geographical alliances for the Internet age. It can be accessed at :-

The second is a further illustration of the "terrorist international", revealing the fact that the IRA provided the detonators used in the Oklahoma bombing. This can be accessed at :-
