February 1999 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

February 1999 edition

South Africa had few better friends during the era of civilised rule than General Augusto Pinochet of Chile. Not only South Africa but also the Falkland Islands have reason to be thankful to Gen. Pinochet, for during the Falklands War Chile gave a great deal of much needed covert assistance to the British liberating forces.
Today, however, Gen. Pinochet lives under illegal house arrest in Britain as a result of a partisan vendetta campaign conducted by the Blair regime - ably assisted by two renegade South African "judges", the scumbags Hoffmann and Steyn.

As Gen. Pinochet gave his support to the South African and Falklands causes during our times of need, so now it is our turn to give our support to him. We are already aware that one Springbok Club supporter has purchased an expensive gift from Fortnum & Masons to send to Gen. Pinochet in order to show him that not everyone in this country supports the illegal action taken against him; another supporter has contacted pro-Pinochet supporters in London to express his solidarity with their cause, and another has written to Opposition Leader William Hague to support the just stance which he has taken in Parliament over this issue. We therefore ask all other Springbok Club supporters to see what they can do to support this proven friend in his hour of need.

JANUARY MEETING

For our first meeting of the year we staged a most interesting and informative video recording about the Falkland Islands entitled "Open Letter to my Mother". This was staged at the Richmond Rugby Club in London, who provided us with some excellent facilities for the screening. Unfortunately the numbers in attendance were very disappointing, particularly in view of the way that our hosts had gone out of their way to provide us with such a superb venue. Please try your best to patronise all our future events of this nature therefore.

[Incidentally, our friends from the American-based Falklands Society are aiming to stage a trip to the Falkland Islands in 2002. If you are interested please let us know.]

NEXT MEETING

Our February meeting will be a very informal affair. It will be staged at the Brown Bear pub in Leman Street, Aldgate, London E1 (nearest underground station: Aldgate East - leave by exit 22, walk down Leman Street for a couple of blocks, and the Brown Bear is on the left) on Thursday 25th February, from approximately 18.30 onwards.

The Brown Bear is currently being run by Peter and Pat Perfect. Many supporters will remember Pat as Pat Mountford, when she was still married to our good friend Alan Mountford, and a well-known figure in Durban society. Now re-married, she has extended a warm welcome to us to visit her new establishment in London, which provides the prospects of being a most enjoyable meeting. Although it will be a very informal gathering, one of our supporters, Tony Waller, will give a brief report-back on his recent trip to South Africa.

SWINTON CIRCLE MEETING

Our friends from the Swinton Circle held their first Enoch Powell Memorial Lecture in the Houses of Parliament on 10th February, and many members and supporters of the Springbok Club attended. The lecture was delivered by Jeffrey Donaldson MP (the Ulster Unionist MP for Lagan Valley), and although his talk of course mainly centred on the current Ulster situation he even so answered a question from the floor comparing the sell-out of Rhodesia to the attempted sell-out of Ulster extremely well, emphasising the fact that the fall of South Africa has resulted in carnage in the streets because no provision had been made for the surrender of weapons.

In the last edition we gave the news that the Springbok Club was now officially constituted. Membership forms are now available, so if you are interested in joining please let us know and we'll forward you a copy.

REAL SOUTH AFRICAN FLAG MERCHANDISE FOR SALE

The South African flag key-ring has now been ordered - but we still have stocks of South African flag lapel badges left, price £5.00 each. Payments should be made to "Patriotic Press", and sent to: BCM SAPAT, London WC1N 3XX, UK.

----------------------------------------------------------------------

S.A.PATRIOT-IN-EXILE

Many supporters have been asking when the next edition of S.A.Patriot-in-Exile (No.35) will be appearing. The fact of the matter is that all material was ready several months ago now, but the only thing which we lack now is funds. We estimate that we still need just under £300.00 in order to be able to print again - so if anybody can help in any way please do not hesitate to let us know. (Again donations should be made out to "Patriotic Press" and sent to: BCM SAPAT, London WC1N 3XX, UK).

One good way of helping would be to make a bulk-purchase of a past edition, the costs being £8.00 (or R32.00) for 25, £12.50 (or R50.00) for 50, £20.00 (or R80.00) for 100, and £35.00 (or R140.00) for 200. Please let us know which edition you'd like.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

A regular feature in which we ask whether anyone knows the current whereabouts of a friend or colleague who has lost contact.

No.7 :  Mr. Bill Jacobs.

Bill Jacobs came from Queensburgh in Natal. Although a South African by birth he had served in the British armed forces (we believe the army) during the 1960's, so we are wondering whether he is now back in the UK.
