July 2013 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

July 2013 edition

This year’s British Lions rugby tour to Australia was a great triumph – both on and off the field. The eventual series victory by 2 matches to 1 against Australia almost certainly could not have been achieved by any one of the four British teams playing individually, thus confirming once again the old adage that “Unity is Strength”. Even more importantly, however, the thousands of touring British Lions supporters from all corners of the British Isles – united behind one national team in one shirt – endeared themselves to their Australian hosts, and despite the competitive nature on the pitch there was evidently nothing but friendly banter and bonhomie in the clubs and bars once the matches were over. This spirit of brotherhood can only enhance Commonwealth strength and solidarity.

Alas there were a few quite worrying aspects about the tour however. As we observed in the May 2013 edition of the SCN, the frequent use of the politically-correct term “The British and Irish Lions” was not only objectionable, it was also plain silly. Just look at any map and you will see that the island of Ireland is just as much part of the British Isles as any other island in the group. Political differences just don’t enter into it!

In addition, prior to the Test matches, although the Australian national flag was displayed on the pitch and Advance Australia Fair was sung, the Union Flag was not displayed and God Save the Queen was not sung. Why was this, as the Union Flag is the national flag of three and a quarter of the four teams comprising the British Lions side, and God Save the Queen is the national anthem of three and a quarter of the teams! The answer can only be that some neanderthal Irish nationalists objected. The British Lions management should have stood firm on these matters of course. Whilst still staying true to the traditional policy of selecting players from all parts of the island of Ireland they should have made it plain to those from Leinster, Munster and Connaught that if they were not prepared to play under the Union Flag and to stand for God Save the Queen then they should decline the invitation to play. We believe that the number so doing would be very, very small,  if indeed any – after all the Queen herself recently made a very successful trip to the Republic of Irelend, and Brian O’Driscoll was more than willing to accept an invitation to attend the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge!

In spite of these unfortunate aspects, this year’s British Lions tour of Australia cannot be considered anything other than a triumphant success. It was not only among those supporters who actually toured Australia where the spirit of united British patriotism manifested itself so vividly, but also among fans and supporters in cities, towns and villages throughout the British Isles themselves. It was an explosion of patriotism which capitalized upon the euphoria of the 2012 London Olympics and Paralympics, when again the whole nation was united in supporting a victorious united British team.

It would be marvelous, furthermore, if the concept of the British Lions could be extended to other team sports. With Eoin Morgan and Boyd Rankin now fully ensconced in the England Cricket squad, is it not time for “England” to be rebranded “Britain” for Test Matches – if not for limited overs internationals? This whole exciting idea was actually explored in greater depth by this current writer in an article entitled “Let the Lions Roar”. Although originally written several years ago now, it is still just as valid today. It can be accessed at :-

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS

Unfortunately the planned Kent Branch Springbok Club event for last month had to be cancelled at the last moment because of the non-appearance of the anticipated guest of honour, Mr. Lars Karnestam from Sweden. Mr. Karnestam, an apparent long-standing supporter of the Springbok Club, was planning to be in the UK for personal reasons last month, and had told us that he wished to visit Canterbury whilst in the country. We therefore asked him if he would like to attend an informal Kent Branch gathering whilst here and to tell those present a bit about the current Swedish situation. He readily accepted this invitation. We know that he arrived in the UK safely as several of our members met him at a function in Rochester the day before the planned get-together in Canterbury, but alas he never ‘phoned to give his arrival arrangements at Canterbury the following day, in spite of transport having been arranged and a sight-seeing tour being organized. As it was, therefore, many supporters were extremely disappointed, and were justifiably annoyed that the event had to be cancelled at such short notice.

Now it could well have been the case that Mr. Karnestam had a valid reason for his last minute alteration of plans, but it would have been nice if he had ‘phoned – either before or afterwards – to give his apologies.

-----------------------------------

The Springbok Club will be holding a most important meeting towards the end of July which will be addressed by the son of a very influential Rhodesian Front MP. This meeting will probably be staged on Saturday 27th July at a venue in central London, and we can assure everyone that the precise details will be circulated via this circulation list as soon as everything has been finalised.

-----------------------------------

On 10th August the Springbok Club is planning a visit to a scenic garden in Surrey which has strong Rhodesian connections, and in September will be participating in the annual Rhodesian “Hoisting of the Flag Ceremony” in Norfolk.

-----------------------------------

The planned Springbok Club meeting to be addressed by a leading campaigner for Afrikaner rights in Europe has alas had to be postponed yet again. It is now hoped that this meeting will be staged in October, and of course full details will be given in future editions of the SCN

It illustrates this by putting forward the positive case for being outside the EU, free of restrictions.

NEW BRITAIN NEWS

Although last month’s New Britain events in both London and York to mark Canada Day were good successes in many respects, the attendance at the London celebration was alas disappointingly low. It is believed that the main reason for this was because this event clashed with the British Grand Prix, so perhaps every effort should be made to avoid clashes with major sporting events in future. Those who did attend were treated to some most enjoyable accordion playing by Mr. Donald Ross however, as well as being served with succulent strawberries and cream provided by Jeanette Nathan. This present writer, in his capacity as Chairman of the Swinton Circle, also gave a brief talk about how his interest in Canada was galvanized by the house structure at his junior school, which featured the four great nations of the original British Commonwealth (Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa), and how he advocated that schools today should be encouraged to adopt similar house structures.

----------------------------

New Britain is planning to stage a trip to pay homage at the graves of two of the greatest Britons of the last century – Sir Winston Churchill and John Enoch Powell – on Saturday 3rd August. The price for this trip will be £12.00 per person, which should be paid in advance. As numbers need to be known as soon as possible in order to know what size of transport to book, we would therefore ask all those who are interested in attending to confirm either by e-mail or by ‘phoning Mr. Dennis Delderfield, the National Chairman of New Britain, on 020-72472524.

APPEAL FROM THE SANWILD LION RESCUE PROJECT

We have recently received the following appeal from the SanWild Wildlife Trust, and hope that some of our readers may find themselves in a position to help :-

“Lions need our help as they themselves cannot change the situation of imposition and it is essential once again to put the spotlight on the continued abuse.

“We need once again to ask for your urgent financial support for the SanWild Lions. We have depleted all our funds to continue to care for these beautiful creatures and will appreciate your donations.

“As many of you will know, we have in our care a number of magnificent lions that were confiscated by the authorities way-back in 2003 from the commercial lion breeding and hunting industries. Feeding the lions over the last 10 years has cost between five hundred and six hundred thousand Rand per year.

“The SanWild Lions have lived a life of safety and protection with the generous support of many animal loving people around the world. The SanWild Lion Rescue Project is the only one of its kind that has specialized in giving new hope to the victims of South Africa’s captive lion breeding and illegal hunting industry; no other animal welfare charities have chosen to take on this daunting and very expensive challenge.

“As life’s living expenses increase so has the costs for continuing to care for our lions, and we need urgent financial support to continue to ensure that they may live out the rest of their lives in large natural habitat enclosures where they have learnt to trust and not fear mankind.

“Online donations can be made via PayPal or PayFast. You will find full details and the relevant links on our website at . http://www.sanwild.org/page12.html

”Donations can also be made by means of direct internet or banking transfers into the SanWild Wildlife Trust account with ABSA, Danie Joubert Street, Tzaneen, South Africa. Account number 9111221180, branch code 334349, Swift Code ABSAZAJJ.

“You can also choose to adopt a lion for a year by donating $500 per month x 12 months. More details can be found at: http://lionexploitation.wordpress.com/category/adoptions/

“All private or company donations are fully tax deductable in South Africa. Once you have made your donation please e-mail Lizel Kachelhoffer on lizel@sanwild.org so that we may issue you with a donations tax receipt.

“For more information please e-mail Louise Joubert on louise@sanwild.org

GIBRALTAR    BRITAIN IN THE SUN

Channel 5 are currently showing a most praiseworthy series entitled “Gibraltar: Britain in the Sun” which presents an extremely positive picture of life in Gibraltar and the unique British culture of the people of the Rock. This series is well worth making a special effort to view, and is currently being screened at 20.00 hrs each Tuesday.

It was also most pleasing to see that the Gibraltar National Cricket Team were featured as the guest team of the week on Sky Sports’ Cricket A.M. programme on 6th July. Both Channel 5 and Sky Sports are therefore to be congratulated upon giving such good publicity to the loyal people of Gibraltar.

MORE NEWS OF COLLAPSING HEALTH SERVICE IN SOUTH AFRICA

The following most revealing article illustrating yet more evidence of the collapsing health service in the “new” South Africa was recently sent to us by Mr. Boris Grig from Russia :-

“The Chris Hani Baragwanath, Charlotte Maxeke and Helen Joseph hospitals have banned evening visits to patients as hospital staff fear for their safety, the Sunday Times reports.

“According to the paper, visitors had been turned away. Some camped outside the hospitals, waiting
for the gates to open for day visits. The move came after a series of attacks on doctors and nurses, despite the health department paying millions for security for each hospital.

“Dr Richard Nethononda of the Baragwanath Doctors' Forum told the Sunday Times doing away with the night visits was not the solution. ’People work, so getting time off [to visit patients during the day] is not always possible. We need to be flexible,’ he said.

“The Democratic Alliance criticised the hospitals for spending large sums of money on unproductive security systems. ‘The health department spends about R140m a year on hospital security, but gets poor value from security companies who don't do a proper job,’ DA spokesperson Jack Bloom said in a statement. He said despite security shortfalls, the hospitals continued to renew contracts of security companies who failed to deliver. ‘Corruption is suspected in the award of the contracts, which are being investigated by the special investigating unit,’ he added.

“The health department could not be reached for comment.”

"P.K. VAN DER BYL - AFRICAN STATESMAN" by Hannes Wessels

ISBN: 978-1-920143-49-7 / paperback / illustrated
Retail price: R250.00, Web-site price: R200.00 + postage

The narrative gives the reader an overview of the history of the White man in southern Africa with detailed emphasis on the Rhodesian story through the life and times of PK van der Byl, one of the major players in a political drama that ended in the accession to power of Robert Mugabe under the auspices of the British government. By his very nature PK was controversial and confrontational. This account is likely to give offence to some because it portrays him as bluntly as he was in real life. Much can be contested about PK van der Byl but few will dispute he was an extremely colourful character with a devilish sense of humour. This memoir covers his life with a full flourish while doing nothing to detract from the seriousness of the international political and military conflict in which he was engaged. The reader will glean new information on a highly controversial subject and emerge with a more sympathetic understanding of what PK van der Byl and his colleagues did and strove for. The human tragedy that has followed the removal from power of Ian Smith and his Rhodesian Front party will almost certainly force the reader to deal with some uncomfortable conclusions, of value to anyone sincere about grappling with the volatile and deeply troubling challenges that confront all Africans today.

A war between the White minority supported by the Black majority and the ZAPU and ZANU terrorist groups, supported by Zambia and Mozambique. WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

No.176:  Mrs. ELEANOR LITTLEJOHN of Durban.

Eleanor Littlejohn was a vivacious beauty who was a much loved member of the Durban social scene during the early 1980s. She was married to Willie Littlejohn (no relation to Richenda Littlejohn – see SCN September 2010) who was a guitarist with a band who played regularly each Friday evening at the St.George’s Hotel in Durban, whose favourite number was “Eye of a Tiger”. It would be very interesting to know where she is now, and indeed whether she is still married.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

ONE TERM WALLER

Sir,

I think you were far too kind to Tony Waller (Obituary, SCN March 2013 – Ed.). Far from gaining “a very high reputation for his diligence” on Sevenoaks District Council, he was actually renowned for his “couldn’t care less” attitude towards council business, and a laid-back approach which bordered on laziness. Having been elected to the council as an official Conservative candidate in 2007 he was not re-adopted by the party in 2011 because of his lack-lustre performance. He then decided to stand as an independent candidate, but the vote which he obtained was derisory. Evidently the electors in the Swanley Ward were not too impressed by their “do nothing” councilor.

Yours etc.,

BPN, Kent, U.K..

----------------------------

PAINTING OF PARIS

Sir,

Can’t you just hear the metropolitan chattering classes, “well, we did not mean this much rich diversity, blocking the streets, welfare benefits for multiple wives, Shari law, riots in the streets, we just meant it was OK as long it did not affect us.”  Friends be very afraid. For those with courage and their descendents welfare at heart please send this to your MP and every one you know. Your silence will not buy freedom from the rapidly growing Islamic dominance and the shameful political cowards who by their silence are as guilty as those that wish to inflict these indignities upon us.

The choice is yours

Yours etc.,

Roy Painter, Hertfordshire, U.K.

TAILORED AID

Sir,

Charity begins at home. We should look after our own people before handing out overseas aid. It should be cut to 0.2% of GDP and divided between wildlife preservation and birth control. The Third World countries' problems are due to incompetent governments and people having too many children. If Archbishop Tutu would care to examine the history of his own country in recent years, he'll see what I mean.

Yours etc.,

M. Taylor, London, U.K..

----------------------------

NICKED

Sir,

I am just scared to be arrested. The Black police look for every reason to arrest us here. On Saturday two Black policemen came to my workshop to arrest me for threatening the owner of “Wheel and Steel”. A White policeman friend of mine intervened for me.

Yours etc.,

N. Lamprecht, Durban, Natal, South Africa

ROGUES GALLERY

As readers will know, we have absolutely no time for “off the edge” parties such as the so-called British National Party (BNP) – and neither do we have any time for their mirror-image outfits from the extreme Left. We have recently been informed about a potentially disturbing development involving both the BNP and their anti-fascist opponents from the Searchlight magazine which does concern us however.

Evidently this Searchlight magazine recently divulged that they had placed an infiltrator inside the BNP by the name of Duncan Robertson, whose true affiliations they have now exposed following his recent death. As our contact who drew our attention to this news pointed out, not only does this deceased Duncan Robertson character possess the same surname as Mr. Allan Robertson, but he also evidently hailed from the same part of western Scotland – and also bore the same overweight physical appearance.

Allan Robertson of course caused considerable disruption within the Swinton Circle during 2008, and was subsequently expelled from the organization for gross misconduct - and furthermore it was subsequently discovered that he had secretive links with the BNP. Was he by any chance related to the mysterious Duncan Robertson character we therefore wonder, and was there therefore more involved in his disruptive antics of 2008 than met the eye? Any further information about any connection would therefore be most gratefully received.
