May 2025 Edition
The results of this month’s English County Council Elections (no elections took place in other parts of the United Kingdom) probably signified the most fundamental change in British political demographics since the rise of the Labour Party at the start of the twentieth century. Although there seemed to be massive “breakthroughs” for the old United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP) at the former (and unlamented!) Euro Elections, these “breakthroughs” did not translate into electoral successes at subsequent British elections, and although ReformUK obtained a highly significant number of votes at last year’s UK General Election this only resulted in five seats.
At the County Council Elections this year the breakthrough by ReformUK was both substantial and undeniable however. The party gained 678 seats and won overall control of 10 county councils, this representing 31% of the popular vote. In addition the party won the Runcorn and Helsby by-election overturning a massive Labour majority of 14,696 with a phenomenal swing of 17.4%, and also won two of the contests for newly-established regional county mayors.
But it wasn’t the rise in support for ReformUK which was the most significant aspect of the recent elections, but rather the demise of support for the previous two main parties. The leftist LiberalDemocrats also enjoyed one of their periodic “revivals” (though their surge in support was nowhere nearly as strong as that for ReformUK) – and as a result they made slight headway in their internal leftist struggle against the ultra-woke Green Party. The Labour Party of course suffered badly, though at 20% of the popular vote not quite as terrible as may have been expected, given the dire unpopularity of Sir Keir Starmer and his government. (Opinion polls seem to suggest that he is the least liked Prime Minister since records began – which seems incredible given some of the truly appalling Prime Ministers which we’ve had over the past 80 years!).
The Conservative Party fared the worst of all however, for the most established party in the UK for the past 200 years, and the most continuously successful political party in the entire world polled only a dismal 15% of the popular vote, thus placing them only in a woeful fourth position. Make no bones about it therefore, this means that incredibly the once all-powerful Conservative Party now faces an existential crisis – a situation which would have been unthinkable even only six years ago! But how has this come about? Although it might be considered “politically incorrect” by many to say so, the fact of the matter is that this rejection of the party by the vast majority of the British people is mainly because of the fact that their latest two leaders have been of completely foreign ancestry. Most people alas tend to be too intimidated by fear of being labelled “racist” to admit this this reason in open conversation, but in the secrecy of the ballot cubicle their true feelings are clearly expressed. As the whole of the western world drifts more and more in an ethno-patriotic direction these choices of leaders by the Conservative Party will come back to haunt it, and be seen as an insult to the British people. The party’s decline will thus become terminal.

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
The Springbok Club held the third stage in their trilogy of events to celebrate the life, adventures and achievements of Frederick Courtney Selous last month. This consisted of a trip to the Natural History Museum in London where a memorial to Frederick Courtney Selous stands, and where many of the taxidermied animal specimens which he brought back from Africa are now housed. Mr. Gary Vincent gave an enthralling conducted tour of the relevant sections of the Natural History Museum, and must be heartily congratulated upon all his research and his presentations of all three stages of this inspiring series of events. After the visit to the Natural History Museum the enthusiastic Springbok Club party adjourned to a near-by hostelry for further relevant discussions and convivial conversations.
----------------------------
The Springbok Club will be celebrating Empire Day during the afternoon of Saturday 24th May at a venue in central London. At this celebration Mr. Neil Pritchard-Meaker will be giving a brief report-back talk about his recent visit to Australia and Mr. Alan Williamson will be giving an illustrated talk about his trip to New Zealand earlier this year – thus helping to strengthen solidarity with these two long-standing Commonwealth brother realms of ours! All members and supporters of the Springbok Club will be notified of the precise details of this event shortly.
----------------------------
On Sunday 22nd June the Springbok Club will be staging a trip to Petersfield in Hampshire in order to watch the annual parade of the Loyal Orange Order through the town. This will also give members and supporters the opportunity to pay homage at the former house of the late Honorary President of the Springbok Club, the late and great Peter Fisher, in the town.

ANNIVERSARY APPEAL FOR PATRIOTIC PRESS
The first edition of the SCN was produced in August 1999, and has appeared regularly every month ever since (in spite of deranged claims by the late and unlamented Mike “Scruffy” Keith-Smith that we had folded!). We thus celebrated our 25th anniversary in August of last year, though we didn’t do anything specifically at the time to mark this milestone. There has never of course been any charge for the SCN, and our costs have been minimal – but this doesn’t apply to Patriotic Press’s other periodical, our hard-copy magazine The Imperial Patriot. As we’ve mentioned in earlier editions of the SCN, we are eager to produce the next edition of The Imperial Patriot, No.44, as soon as possible, and we are therefore launching a specific appeal to mark the SCN’s anniversary for this purpose. It is estimated that the printing costs to produce this next edition will be approximately £600.00. If just 6 of our readers could contribute £100.00 then we would reach this target; if 12 could donate £50.00 then this would be sufficient; if 24 could give us £25,00 then we’d have success; if 60 could send us £10.00 then we would be there! We therefore ask all of our readers to do their best to help us reach this target as soon as possible. Never forget that the SCN costs you nothing, and that we already have sufficient material to produce issue No.44 of The Imperial Patriot. Our banking details where donations can be sent appear at the end of this edition of the SCN.

CAMPAIGN TO ENSURE PROPER CARE RGULATIONS FOR CAPTIVE FOXES
Captive foxes in the UK are in urgent need of protection. Black Foxes UK have launched a formal petition calling on the UK Government to introduce sensible, specific regulations for the keeping of Red Foxes, Silver Foxes and rescued wild foxes. These animals are often misunderstood, mismanaged and unprotected under current law – leaving them vulnerable to suffering, escape or exploitation. More details about this campaign can be found at :-

CONGRATULATIONS RORY McILROY
By winning the 2025 U.S.Masters Tournament at Augusta Rory McIlroy became only the sixth male Golfer in history to achieve a Career Gland Slam – winning all four of the major professional Golf titles [The (British) Open, the U.S. Open, the U.S. Masters and the U.S. Professional Golfers Association] during the course of their career. He was only the second non-American to achieve this feat, the first being the great South African golfer Gary Player.
Rory McIlroy was born at Holywood in Co.Down, and spent all his childhood, youth and early professional career in the area. Despite being the son of an inter-sectarian marriage and attending a Roman Catholic primary school, Rory McIlroy has always been a proud Ulsterman and holds a British Passport. His decision to represent Ireland at the 2020/1 and 2024 Olympic Games raised eyebrows, but this was mainly due to the fact that there was fierce competition for places in the Great Britain squad, yet he was a certainty for selection in the Irish squad. He did not fare well at either Olympics however, failing to win a medal on both occasions, and it has been speculated that “his heart wasn’t in it” whilst representing Ireland. Rory McIlroy is clearly a son of Northern Ireland (the six loyal counties of Ulster) so is thereby an Irishman - and as a result of this he is British! We therefore congratulate him on his fantastic achievement and glory in his triumph.

MOST INTERESTING SPEECH BY RUPERT LOWE M.P.
A supporter from Kent has recently sent us details about a video posted on FaceBook of an important speech given by Rupert Lowe MP shortly before he had the ReformUK whip withdrawn. We do not know the full details behind the removal of Rupert Lowe MP from the ReformUK Parliamentary party, and do not wish to take sides in any way in relation to this tragic internecine dispute. All we know is that after listening to this speech it seems essential that the differences between Mr. Lowe and the rest of the ReformUK leadership are patched up as quickly as possible and as amicably as possible, as clearly Mr. Lowe has much to offer both to the party and to the country. INFORMATIVE MESSAGE SENT BY REBEL NEWS
We have recently been sent a most interesting message by the Canadian-based Rebel News organisation about a massive patriotic rally which took place in London a few months ago, but which significantly didn’t seem to attract much meaningful coverage in the mainstream British media. Their message reads as follows :-
“Yesterday was an amazing day for freedom in the UK — more than 50,000 people had a peaceful, patriotic rally in support of Britain and freedom.
“It was mums and dads, waving the Union Flag, with some people also flying the Israeli flag and the flag of Iran before the ayatollahs took over.
“There were speeches and musical performances, and Tommy Robinson played a documentary he had made. The whole thing was streamed live on Twitter, and more than 500,000 people around the world were watching.
“It was completely peaceful. Unlike the pro-Hamas hate marches that have dominated London for months.
“What a success!
“But then in a shocking turn of events, police arrested Tommy Robinson this morning — incredibly, under the Terrorism Act.
“Here’s my friend Kelly Lamb, who performed at the rally yesterday, giving her personal thoughts on the news:
“Why would Tommy be arrested under the Terrorism Act? It makes no sense — Tommy isn’t a terrorist. He’s anti-terrorism. My colleague Ezra Levant has a theory: the Terrorism Act allows police to arrest people with astonishing powers: they have no right to silence; they can be searched without a search warrant; and they can even be denied their right to a lawyer
“Click here to see Ezra’s explanation for why police would so brazenly abuse that law.
“What a wild world.
“I just returned to Canada — I had no idea Tommy was arrested until I landed. Kelly is still on the ground — she’ll give us more news.
“One thing is for sure: you can’t trust the mainstream media in either the UK or Canada to tell the truth about Tommy.
“If you want to help cover our costs of reporting from Tommy’s events, please chip in. My trip to London and back was over $1,500, but my reports and even my tweets were seen hundreds of thousands of times.
“That’s the thing: they can arrest Tommy. But they can’t arrest an idea.
“Yours truly,
“Alexa Lavoie - Rebel News”

THE ADVANTAGE OF BEING BRITISH
Last month there was a massive power outage in Spain which cut off all electricity throughout the Iberian Peninsula. Well not quite all of the Iberian Peninsula, as one place generates their own electricity and thereby was not affected: Gibraltar. Yet another example of the advantages of being British therefore!

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.318: Mr. ANTHONY HOWNAM-MEEK of Hong Kong.
Anthony Hownam-Meek was an Australian who moved to Hong Kong during his youth and became involved with the sporting and gambling scenes there. Contact was made with him in London during the early 1970s, and he turned out to be a staunch patriot and “Empire man”. Alas contact was lost shortly after it was initially made, but he left a lasting impression. Brief mentions of him on social media suggests that he lived an interesting life and continued his Commonwealth/Empire enterprises. Alas no definite discovery of his current whereabouts has been found, but it would be encouraging to make contact with him again.

RECOMMENDED WEB-SITE OF THE MONTH
In last month’s SCN we recommended the web-site of the CapeXit movement, an umbrella organisation which seeks a breakaway of the Western Cape from the rest of South Africa to form an independent state. The most important – and growing – supportive organisation in the CapeXit movement is the Cape Independence Party. They are a dynamic, well-organised and determined political party, and deserve full support as they strive to create a better future for all citizens of the Cape, free from the chaotic disaster of the ANC-dominated “new” South Africa. Their most illuminating web-site can be accessed at :-

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
DEVIL’S CHOICE
Sir,
As a retired teacher I think it a mistake for nationalists to regard Islam as the principal enemy when in many ways Islam upholds decent traditional values. Of course, whether we should hand our country over to hoards of alien, non-indigenous invaders is another matter.
Yours etc.,
Michael Woodbridge, Denbighshire, U.K.

NEW NEW MODEL ARMY NEEDED
Sir,
I know Jerry Wraith quite well (see April 2025 SCN letter). He is dead right. Never, never, ever vote for the Conservative, Labour, Liberal Democrat or Green candidates, or their parties in any election ever again!
These are “captured” parties. Unless we stop voting for any of them, our national decay will not be rectified.
We need a revolution. I believe it is coming.
We have had one before – in the 17th century. It’s time for another.
Yours etc.,
Peter Lindsay, Surrey, U.K.

FUEL FOR THOUGHT
Sir,
I became involved in the (non) debate on climate change and "alternative energy" in the mid to late 1980's when the UN created the IPCC.
The initiative for this came from climate scientists in the US, most notably Michael Mann and his notorious Hockey Stick chart and at the University of East Anglia in the UK. Politicians and environmentalists all jumped aboard and campaigned for a total switch from power generated from fossil fuels to "green energy". At the time meaning wind, solar and wave. Later also the burning of biofuels. Nuclear was a problem for these people. My interest was aroused because, at that time I was using solar panels to power remote microwave systems in the Middle East. No shortage of sunshine/UV there! Meeting with MP's in London quickly revealed how ignorant they were on these subjects. They spouted the Party line about saving the planet/net zero. Climate change, power generation, network security and the growth in population/forecasting future power needs are highly complex subjects. Since the 80's I have not met one politician, at any level of government in London or here in Canada, that has any understanding of these subjects. All reduced to simple sound bites.
Perhaps it is naive to expect honesty and integrity from our politicians and, in any case, "net zero/saving the planet" has been a godsend for our politicians and their tax collectors. Not really so naive though to expect a degree of honesty and balance from our mainstream media, including the BBC in the UK and CBC here in Canada.
I have worked in many countries. Not one that depends on the production of oil and LNG for its economy will reduce their production. It is simply impossible for many of the countries that I have worked in over the decades to switch from power generated by the burning of fossil fuels to so-called "Green Energy". Their populations will keep on increasing as will their power generation needs. At all COP meetings the "developing world" insists that the wealthy developed economies finance any "Net Zero" initiatives they take. Are these wealthy nations really going to take on even more debt to finance such projects? During a recent election campaign here in BC Canada the successful candidate could not tell me what debt the province of BC is carrying and what % of the budget must be devoted to servicing that debt. She had no idea of what federal debt we have. Meanwhile our services continue to deteriorate and ALL departments of government are demanding increased budgets.
C02 the main driver behind climate change? Canada contributes around 1.5% and is an irrelevance on a global scale.
What is happening around the world as far as a "Net Zero" is concerned? Never a mention here in Canada from the mainstream media.
We all have/should have an interest in these subjects as we pay, via the ever more demanding tax system, for all initiatives our politicians take. The UK has a round 30 years’ experience of subsidising onshore and offshore wind farms and solar farms. What are the costs and consequences? Ne’er a mention here. The UK sent a team of 470 to Baku for COP, but how many went, at the taxpayers’ expense, from Canada?
Yours etc.,
Paul Rhodes, British Columbia, Canada.

OBITUARY
PHYLLIS FLORENCE ANNE PARVESS
It was with great sadness that we learnt of the recent death of that fine daughter of Rhodesia, Phyllis Parvess.
Phyllis was married to the great Rhodesian patriot Owen Parvess (see December 2014 SCN), and truly exemplified the old maxim that “behind every great man there is an equally great woman”. After leaving the Rhodesian Army with an exemplary record Owen became politically active fighting for Rhodesia’s continued existence. He stood for the Rhodesian Action Party in the Bulawayo Hillside constituency at the 1977 General Election, and subsequently continued the struggle for Rhodesia’s survival by becoming active with the Rhodesian Movement. After the fall of Rhodesia he moved south with his family to Pinetown in Natal, but maintained his active involvement for the preservation of civilised rule in Southern Africa by joining the HNP and standing for the party at the 1981 South African General Election for the Umhlatuzana Constituency. Through all his political activism Owen was supported to the full by Phyllis, who indeed acted as one of his agents in the Umhlatuzana Constituency at the 1981 General Election – a contest at which, although they were not victorious, produced a vote for the HNP which was far higher in an English-speaking area than was ever considered possible!
In 2015, in spite of by then being wheelchair-bound, Phyllis made a trip to the UK to see her son Michael and his family, and whilst in the country attended an informal Springbok Club gathering held in her honour (see September 2015 SCN). A number of members present remembered her from their South African days and being able to meet her again of course brought back many happy memories – but all present were highly impressed by her zestful spirit and confident determination! The memory of this event still continues to inspire us.
Cindy Parvess-Coelho, Owen and Phyllis’s daughter, wrote a most moving and as we know truly accurate eulogy to her mother which she read at her funeral. We reproduce it below without alteration :-
“Today, we gather to honour and celebrate the extraordinary life of a woman who meant so much to so many - our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, friend, and cherished Nana: Phyllis Florence Anne Parvess.
“Phyllis was born on 22 May 1944 in Bulawayo, Rhodesia - one of seven siblings. From the very beginning, she was a bright spark in a vibrant, larger-than-life family, full of heart. A tiny person - just five foot tall with a size 3 shoe - yet she tackled life like a lioness.
“She grew up in the Hillside home that held generations of stories - a place where she would later raise her own children and create countless memories. She also spent treasured time on the family farm in Shangani, where the wide-open spaces and rhythm of the land mirrored the freedom and spirit she carried throughout her life. It was a place she loved until her final days - and the place she chose as her final resting place.
“Her life on the farm as a young girl equipped her in ways that would shape her forever. She instinctively knew how to build a garden gate, redirect flood waters, and patch holes without blinking. Innocent, who worked closely with her for many years, was always amazed at her “farming logic” - how she ran her homes with the same practicality and quiet brilliance she once applied to life on the farm. Phyllis - who would come to be known to all as Nana - was a strikingly beautiful young woman, full of grace and warmth.
“After completing her studies in Johannesburg, fate brought her to the love of her life - our dad. Their love story weathered many storms, but it was the kind that leaves a legacy. They were married on the family farm on 28 April 1962 - a day full of promise and joy, so much so that my brother Michael, and his son Graeme, chose the same wedding date. (It certainly makes remembering anniversaries easier.)
“Their married life began as an army family in Salisbury. Mum embraced motherhood with her whole heart. When Michael was born, she poured every bit of love into him. She often told me it was like playing dolls because she changed his outfits four times a day, proudly pushing him through the park in his pram.
“Eighteen months later, I arrived. From the start, she passed down her love for beautiful clothes, warm homes, and Rose gardens. She nurtured my curiosity, built my confidence, and helped shape the person I would grow to be. Seven years later, Stuart completed our family - the laat lamejie and the baby she doted on, protected, and cheered on. She constantly reminded him how clever and capable he was, and she believed in everything he could become.
“From Gwelo, to Llewellyn Barracks, to Bulawayo - she carried us 3 through every chapter with fierce devotion and quiet strength. No matter where we were, she made it home.
“In 1979, as a result of our dad’s political involvement, our family moved to South Africa - settling in Paradise Valley near Durban. We arrived with just our suitcases, but somehow, Mum built us a place to call home - one filled with treasured memories of 21st birthdays, weddings, grandbabies, and more.
“Now, having recently moved countries myself, I often think of the many challenges she must have faced. Yet she took them on with courage and grit - all while raising three children. She lived with a rare kind of zest, fully embracing each chapter of life. She poured herself into the people she loved, the friendships she made, her church and her home.
“In 2002, she and Dad moved to Johannesburg, settling in Robin Hills. It was good to be closer to family, and they truly enjoyed being near their grandchildren and Mum’s extended family. In 2014, we lost Dad. It’s hard to believe that was almost eleven years ago. Mum grieved deeply, but even in her sorrow, she continued to live with purpose. She often said she was in “the waiting room for heaven” - but in true Nana fashion, she never stopped rising to life’s challenges.
“In her later years, she travelled more than ever - chasing dreams and creating unforgettable memories. From Paris and the Champs-Élysées, where she beamed at the finish line of the Tour de France - a race she adored - to Wimbledon. Two events that dominated her annual calendar. She watched us ride camels next to the pyramids of Egypt, sailed on a dhow in Dubai, wandered through London and Stonehenge, relaxed in Mauritius, basked in the sun in Majorca, and rolled among the tulips and castles of the Netherlands. She marvelled at dykes and towns built on water, laughing at the fairy tales she once believed. And although she often threatened to toss her passport away, she kept chasing moments - always trying to get to the next place, the next loved one.
“Even just last month, she had her sights set on attending her grandson’s wedding in Charlotte, USA. Nana’s sense of adventure was matched only by the size of her heart. Even as her health declined, she never stopped giving. She turned hospital halls into mission fields - chatting with strangers, praying for immigration officers, reaching out to Ukrainian refugees in the park, offering love and prayer wherever she went. She preached through presence - a quiet power that made you feel seen, safe, and loved.
“She lived through war and peace, heartbreak and healing, loss and deep love. Through it all, she never stopped being a source of light and comfort to those around her. She loved fiercely and unconditionally. Nana became our family’s prayer warrior - a mantle she adopted from the late Doris Parvess. Her prayers sometimes lasted two to three hours a day - all depending on how you were all behaving. I can guarantee you: if you're here today, or watching this online - she prayed for you by name. And I ask the same question she once asked: Who is going to pray for all of us now?
“In her final months, she fought bravely through intense pain. Her spirit, though weary, never wavered. Even in our last prayer together, her focus was not on herself, but on her children and grandchildren. She told me she didn’t want to leave - she still had to look after us. That was Mum. Our lioness. Our shield. Our fierce and faithful protector.
“Nana leaves behind her children: Michael and Debbie, Stuart and Debbie, Johnny, and her grandchildren, in order: Natasha and Matt, Daniel and Christi, Graeme and George, Sarah and Jonny, Emma, Warrick, and Sydney. And great-grandchildren: Alex, Bella, Sebastian, Luna, and Benjamin. And last but not least - me.
“Mum, Nana - you’ve left a space no one else can fill. The stories, the laughter, the way you said “well done” for even the smallest win. How you called everyone “my dear.” Your love of pretty shoes - and your strong opinions on the ugly ones. The gardens you poured yourself into. Your daily ritual: checking the stock market, following world news, rooibos tea in hand - always with digestive biscuits. And of course - your detention delights, your passion for making sure everyone was fed and happy, and the unforgettable Boomsy stories. These are memories we’ll carry with us - always.
“But we take comfort in knowing you’re now reunited with those you longed for - Dad, your mother, your father, Keith, all your precious dogs, and so many more. You are whole again. Pain-free. No more scooter. At peace. And safely in the arms of Jesus.
“We miss you more than words can say. But we celebrate you - the vibrant, loving, fearless woman you were - and we thank God for the gift of having had you in our lives. Rest well, our beautiful Mom. Our Nana. Our angel. Until we meet again.”
