The proposals contained in the new UK Terrorism Act are of course most welcomed. At a time when Britain - and indeed the whole of the West - faces the greatest threat from expansionist Islam since the Middle Ages the response to it must be ruthless, and no quarter can be given to any who plan, enact, advocate or glorify acts of terrorism. If anything many of the proposals in this new Act do not go far enough - though to be realistic nothing more could really be expected from a Labour government in hock to its own sickly appeasing left-wing.
One very strange and unexpected outcome has resulted from the opposition of the usual leftist elements to this Act however. Both the unspeakable Ken Livingston and Shami Chakrabarti (the elfish spokeswoman for the mischief-making "Liberty" outfit) have spoken about the so-called "Mandela Test" - by which they will judge the legislation by whether it would effect those who praised the South African terrorist leader "Nelson" Mandela or not. By so doing these trouble-makers have actually scored a spectacular own goal, for they have reminded - or perhaps informed - everyone about just what an evil terrorist Mandela actually was.
It has for long mystified us why so many people seem to be so unaware of Mandela's terrorist past (he was convicted of terrorist offences in 1963 after being caught red-handed with enough explosives to blow-up half of Johannesburg, and sentenced to life imprisonment) when he was obscenely imposed upon South Africa as "president" in 1994. These same people seem only too willing to condemn Mandela's terrorist blood-brother Mugabe, but for the life of us we can't understand what the difference is between them, for their histories confirm that they are like two peas out of the same pod.
A terrorist is a terrorist is a terrorist. Adams, McGuinness, Saddam Hussein, Osama bin Laden, Mandela, Mugabe (and we deliberately choose two White, two Brown and two Black to show that colour and race simply don't enter into it), their terrorist crimes are all the same. They all deserved to be executed for their evil acts of terrorism against innocent civilians, and the world would undoubtedly now be a far better place if this had happened to them all years ago.
We hope that the proposed new anti-terrorist legislation will be enacted in the strongest form advocated - but hope even more so that the unintentional faux pas's of Livingston and Chakrabarti will alert as many people as possible to the true evil nature of the terrorist Mandela.

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S SEPTEMBER MEETING
In September the Springbok Club welcomed Mr. Michael Brufal de Melgarejo, the 9th Marques de Lendinez, as guest speaker. The Marquis de Lendinez, who was born in Gibraltar and has been an energetic advocate of the Gibraltarian cause all his life (now being a Director of the "Friends of Gibraltar Heritage Society") gave an eloquent and most enlightening speech about the recent history of the Rock, and how defiant and imaginative pressure from the Government and people of Gibraltar, and by their masses of supporters in the UK, had stymied plans by the Blair government to sell-out the Rock by agreeing to "share sovereignty" with Spain. Of more specific interest, he also told the history of how Gibraltar had been twinned with the town of Goole in Yorkshire, and how this had recently been confirmed in spite of sinister attempts by certain elements in the Foreign Office to deny it.
This proved to be a particularly successful meeting for the Springbok Club, with several new members joining as a result.

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S GIBRALTAR TRIP
A small delegation from the Springbok Club will be visiting Gibraltar towards the end of October in order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. Several events are being organised in conjunction with the Gibraltar Heritage Trust, including a wreath-laying ceremony at the Trafalgar Cemetery on Friday 21st October, at which wreaths will be laid on the graves of the two sailors who fought at Trafalgar and who died of their wounds who are buried there - one on behalf of the Springbok Club and the other on behalf of the London Swinton Circle.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB EVENTS
On November 5th a party of Springbok Club members will be attending the annual Lewes Bonfire Festivities, which this year, being the 400th anniversary of the Discovery of the Gunpowder Plot, will have even greater significance than ever. Again full details will be reported in next month's SCN.
On Monday 21st November the Springbok Club will be staging their annual UDI Day Dinner in central London, when the Guest of Honour will be a most interesting personality who is currently closely involved with the international court cases being conducted on behalf of the dispossessed commercial farmers of Zimbabwe. Tickets for this event (which will include a three-course meal plus coffee) are priced at £20.00 for full members of the Springbok Club, £24.00 for Associate Members and £28.00 for non-members. SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
Because of failing health Mr. David Williams has been forced to resign as Branch Development Officer. He will, however, remain a member of the Springbok Club's Executive Committee, and has been offered - and accepted - the position of Honorary President of the Springbok Club.
Alas Dave Williams's failing health has meant that the Branch Development Department has been very inactive for the past few months. It is hoped, however, that a replacement Branch Development Officer will be appointed before the end of the year.

Both the Kent and Chilterns branches of the Springbok Club are hoping to stage get-togethers early in the new year. It is anticipated that a well-known personality from the British patriotic movement will be present at the Chilterns Branch gathering.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
Although staged under the auspices of the supportive publication "Tough Talking from the Right" rather than the London Swinton Circle itself, a buffet was held recently in central London where Mr. Ashley Mote, the Independent UKIP MEP for south-east England, was the guest of honour. This proved to be a most successful event, with a packed hall, delectable buffet snacks, and a most informative speech from Mr. Mote in which he outlined many of the financial scandals affecting the EU, and forecasted the eventual demise of the whole appalling structure.

LATEST FALKLANDS NEWS
The Argentinian publication "Clarin" recently carried a major interview with Sir Lawrence Freedman over his official history of the Falklands War. The title is a quote from him "Argentina shouldn’t have invaded the Malvinas Islands [Falkland Islands]". It was a fair interview, and there are no real problem for the Falklands in it. He is asked about the doubts he mentioned over Britain’s claim to the Islands (which the Daily Mail had said he was undermining), but he replies basically that it is a fact that there were doubts about Britain’s claim then, which he wasn’t the first one to point out. But he goes on to say that he also says that the Argentine claim was "fragile" then. He says that he argues in favour of confidence in the British claim. He says that Britain’s main problem wasn’t its doubts about its title to the Falklands, but doubts over the viability of maintaining such an overseas territory, which Argentina felt strongly about. Perhaps his main criticism of Britain is that just before the war the intelligence services failed to understand the link between Admiral Anaya and the Navy and President Galtieri who all felt so strongly over the Falklands (which led to the invasion). He dismisses the conspiracy theories over the sinking of the General Belgrano.

This November will mark the 40th Anniversary of U.D.I. and to mark this important event I want to hear from you. Where were you on that November day? What were your thoughts about U.D.I and the lead up to the momentous announcement, either for or against? If you weren't in Rhodesia at the time let me know what brought you to the country after U.D.I.
I am a Rhodesian born and breed and am currently engaged on writing a PhD for the University of London on Rhodesia's road to Independence, and I want to hear from you all. By studying the histories, government papers and biographies of the leading figures of the time I can piece together what was in the mind of the leaders on both side, but what I want to know was what was in the mind of the ordinary Rhodesian. This is your chance to have your say. Any and all information is most welcome as my thesis will only be as good as the sources I have to work from.

BSAP REGIMENTAL ASSOCIATION DINNER
The 58th annual regimental dinner of the UK Branch of the BSAP Regimental Association took place last month in central London. The Guest of Honour at the spectacular event was General Sir Michael Walker GCB, CMG, CBE, ADC Gen., the Chief of the Defence Staff. In a most enthralling after-dinner speech General Sir Michael Walker recalled many anecdotes which he had heard from his father Bill Walker (who of course was a serving officer in the BSAP prior to WWII, and the Recruiting Officer for the service at Rhodesia House in London during the 1950s), as well as telling something of his own early service in the army. WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.83 : Miss PAULINE SHAW of Durban
Pauline Shaw, like the rest of her family, was a staunch South African patriot, and an active member of Ivor Benson's "National Forum" during the late 1970s. She was also a breath-taking beauty in spite of her diminutive stature - and indeed was a finalist in the UND Rag Queen competition of 1978. Her father was a medical doctor, and her family hailed from Gingindlovu on the Natal north coast. In late 1978, however, she became very active in a Durban-based charismatic church called "The Invisible Church", and dropped out from all political activity as a result. It later came to light that she was closely romantically involved with the pastor of this church, though it is uncertain whether this ever resulted in marriage. During the early 1980s, however, a financial scandal evidently engulfed this church and it collapsed. A number of old friends, however, would be very keen to learn what ever became of Pauline Shaw.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
THEY HAVEN'T GONE AWAY YOU KNOW
Sir,
It was good to attend yesterday's LSC meeting and to be able to put forward my question concerning the supreme importance of the teaching of the suffering of our Protestant forebears and the role of the Papacy and Romanists in seeking to undermine our country from the Armada invasion of 1588, the gunpowder plot of 1605 and the actions of the Jesuits, to the Papacy's conspiracy against the interests of the United Kingdom during World Wars I and II - not least its complicity with the Nazis.
However, weak-kneed attitudes will not serve the well-being of our country and its people, and I must confess that I found Mr. Hilton burbling on about "extremists" and not being able to use the word Protestant as very uninspiring and indeed quite depressing. It is not Protestantism based upon the word of God as expressed in the Holy Bible that needs to hold its head in shame, bearing in mind that our breaking from the stranglehold of the Roman Catholic Church was followed by the growth of the British Empire and our industrial development (and indeed Huguenot French Protestants sought refuge here after the persecution of Louis XIV), but rather Romanism and Romanists who think it right to betray ones country and sovereign at the whim of a piece of paper written by a foreign bishop in a foreign city, engage in acts of terrorism and intimidation such as the Jesuits and the Irish Republicans, and in place of the Holy Bible have idolatry superstition and so-called "bleeding statues" of Templemore. I think that Mr. Hilton, who has first-hand experience of being ejected from the Conservative Party for a mild criticism of Vatican activities after some undue false indignation from the "Catholic Herald", should know better than to believe that we can defeat the thought-police by going along with what they want, and certainly we should be grateful for having a British and Protestant Crown instead of a Papal Tiara Crown, which undoing the Act of Settlement of 1701 will bring about. However, Rome has advanced its tentacles too far already, with the United Kingdom being properly Great Britain and [all] Ireland. The Anglican Church of Ireland must be re-established to amend the betrayal of Irish Protestants by that madman and traitor William Gladstone.
As for the "Catholic Herald" bleating to the Conservative Party about "bigotry" and "hatred", it would do better to remember its own history, not least its former editor, the odious Charles Diamond, who wrote "Killing, No Murder: It is more human to despatch a heretic to his own place than let live to spread contagion amongst others", concerning the attempted murder of the Viceroy and Lord Lieutenant of Ireland Lord French, an article condoning murder of non-Catholics for which he got 6 months imprisonment - through he should have been shot himself for incitement to murder the Crown's representative in Ireland. Our ancestors showed courage and resolution in dealing with traitors and terrorists and so must we.

You mention a Mike Smith of Portsmouth; no idea who he is and can't say I've ever heard of him. His "CDA" is I imagine one man and a dog - but with a computer he can give the impression of being much more.
I'm more distressed than amazed at the numbers of odd-balls and weirdoes that continue to surface here, to form groups, parties, fronts and the like that last a few months or so, then split, have coups, or just simply disappear, to re-form a month or so later under a new name and leadership, but with new plans (or plots)!

Although the recent disorder in West Belfast was of course regrettable, it was even so unsurprising. Ever since the so-called Belfast Agreement – and more particularly since the despicable Patten Report - the Unionist population of Northern Ireland has quite justifiably felt aggrieved and suppressed in their own country.
The catalyst for this latest disorder was a march by the local Orange Order lodges in the Springmartin district of West Belfast, when briefly the Orangemen would walk down a road where many Republican residents lived, which the sinister "Parades Commission" had ruled "illegal". The Republicans do not own the road of course - it is the Queen's Highway, so therefore all law-abiding citizens have every right to utilise it. The Orange Order, of course, stands for civil and religious liberties for ALL and their parades moreover provide colour and spectacle for all to enjoy. What could possibly be the objection of the local residents to this joyful display of freedom therefore? If they do not like living in the United Kingdom and dislike such manifestations of loyalty to the Crown then their answer is obvious. They should immediately re-locate to the Republic of Ireland or to elsewhere in the world.
But another more sinister factor was in play during this recent confrontation, namely the actions of the newly-constituted Police Service of Northern Ireland, whose actions on the day were construed by many observers to be both biased and heavy-handed. All but Republican terrorists and their apologists agreed that the former force of law and order in Northern Ireland, the Royal Ulster Constabulary, was totally neutral in their application of the law. In spite of unsubstantiated claims by Nationalists that it was a "sectarian" police force, over 8% of its personnel were Roman Catholic - regardless of the great intimidation which they endured from Republican terrorists. The abolition of the RUC as a result of the Patten Report (and it should be remembered that Chris Patten, in spite of being a nominal Conservative, is a devout Roman Catholic and a pro-EU fanatic) was one of the most shameful events in recent British history, and the rules for the composition of the new PSNI display all of the most dangerous aspects of "affirmative action". Patten decreed that the new force should be 50% Roman Catholic and 50% Protestant (in effect non-Roman Catholic) - in spite of the fact that Roman Catholics make up less than 40% of the population of Northern Ireland as a whole. "Affirmative action" has proved disastrous in South Africa, and it will prove equally disastrous in Ulster, as we do not doubt that the real cause of the recent disorder was the biased actions of the new police service. The current quota system imposed by Patten must therefore be abolished immediately, and ideally the police service in Northern Ireland should be re-named the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
The factor which is most disturbing, however, is the part played in this dispute by the new Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Peter Hain. It should be remembered by all that Hain was the leading figure in the anti-South African protests against peaceful touring South African sports teams during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Several of the actions of his protesters at the time can only be described as crypto-terrorism (such as the hi-jacking of team coaches, the sprinkling of tin-tacks on rugby pitches and threats to shoot off bails at cricket matches). Hain's latest unjustified condemnation of the Orange Order was therefore only to be expected from such an evil man. He should be removed from office immediately, and hopefully one day will face charges for conspiracy, sedition and the glorification of terrorism.

Although the Springbok Club was faced with an acute problem last month when the planned speaker, Aaron Lucas, couldn't be contacted due to his military commitments, we were most grateful to the organisation's Treasurer, and a leading official in the London Swinton Circle, Mr. Allan Robertson, for "stepping into the breach" and delivering a highly enlightening talk under the theme of "The British Empire and its Continuing Legacy". He certainly didn't disappoint, and indeed delivered a most enlightening talk. It was also most encouraging to see such a larger than expected attendance for this replacement meeting organised at such short notice, particularly the high numbers of new faces who were present.

Michael Brufal de Melgarejo, the 9th Marques de Lendinez, was born in Gibraltar and educated in the UK at Downside School and Christ's College, Cambridge, where he read economics and law. He spent many years in Fleet Street on The Times, The Sunday Times and The Observer. For the past 43 years he has been London Correspondent (pro bono) of The Gibraltar Chronicle and has had countless articles published in the British media about Gibraltar. Michael was banned from entering Spain for more than twenty years; his crime being to promote the inalienable right of the Gibraltarians to self-determination. He has also written more published letters about Gibraltar in the British press than any other person. His first letter was published in the now defunct Reynolds News when he was only nine years old. He is a director of The Friends of Gibraltar Heritage Society, and at present is endeavouring to prove that the Foreign Office is wrong when they state that the town of Goole was never twinned with Gibraltar. This on-going battle should have reached conclusion by the date of the meeting.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB EVENTS
In October the Springbok Club will be organising a delegation to visit Gibraltar in order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. It is planned to stage a wreath-laying ceremony at the Trafalgar Cemetery during the day of Friday 21st October, to be followed by two events being organised by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust - a Trafalgar Day Dinner during the evening of Friday 21st October and a trip to Cape Trafalgar on Saturday 22nd October. Evidently hotel places on the Rock for this period and vacancies for the two events being staged by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust are filling up fast, so it is therefore suggested that all those who wish to join this trip should make arrangements as soon as possible. SPRINGBOK CLUB BRANCH NEWS
The Kent Branch of the Springbok Club staged a trip to the "Sea Britain" Saxon Community Fair in Herne Bay during August. This proved to be a most pleasant event organised in a traditional British country fair fashion, which the Springbok Club contingent enjoyed tremendously. Of particular interest was the performance of the New Scorpion Band, who played a medley of traditional British sea-shanties (as well as a selection of other traditional British folk songs), which was especially significant during the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
The Chilterns Branch of the Springbok Club is hoping to stage a get-together towards the end of the year when a well-known personality from the British patriotic movement will be present.
The London Branch of the Springbok Club is planning to hold a meeting early during 2006 when one of their members will be giving a talk on early Anglo-Saxon history.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The London Swinton Circle's summer buffet was staged earlier this month, whereat the Guest of Honour was Mr. Simon Heffer, the acclaimed Daily Mail columnist. Mr. Heffer gave a masterful speech in which he gave a full analysis of the current British political scene, particularly in relation to the forthcoming Conservative leadership election.
[Alas this gathering was marred considerably by the unwelcome presence of a certain Mr. Mike Smith. Smith is evidently the leading-light behind an obscure organisation called the "Conservative Democratic Alliance" (CDA), which in spite of its total insignificance still manages to run a fairly impressive web-site. This web-site contains a discussion "forum", upon which there recently appeared some quite vile and abusive attacks upon the London Swinton Circle, the Springbok Club, and certain leading officials of both these organisations - some of which were posted by Smith himself. It was therefore quite astonishing that Smith should wish to attend a meeting staged by an organisation which he evidently holds in such low esteem. When one of the leading officials of the LSC confronted the scruffily-dressed Smith to complain about these offensive postings on his site, however, he began to cause a scene by first threatening to "call the police" and then starting to hurl infantile and offensive abuse at the leadership of the organisation. Only the desire of other officials to prevent violent confrontation in front of guests present prevented Smith from being physically ejected from the meeting. We were subsequently informed that this Smith character has a long history of legal actions and Internet confrontations, thus suggesting that he attracts trouble wherever he goes. We would therefore be most keen to learn more details about this trouble-making individual and the organisation which he claims to run. Needless to say, all information received will be treated with the utmost confidence.]

REPORT FROM THE ZIMBABWE CONSERVATION TASK FORCE
We would like to report that thanks to various people and organizations who donated money for the tranquilizer M99 in response to our appeal for the snared Bumi elephants, wire snares have been removed from an elephant and a buffalo in the Bumi Hills area.
We would like to offer our heartfelt appreciation to the donors and to all the people involved in the removal of these snares which is an extremely dangerous and complicated operation. Thanks also to the very kind people who flew the team into Bumi free of charge and to the aviation company who flew in the M99.
It has been reported that the elephant and the buffalo have recovered since the snares were removed and are doing very well.

LATEST FALKLANDS NEWS
Recently La Nacion carried a major article entitled "Los Kelpers ya no son ciudadanos de segunda" (The Kelpers are not second-class citizens any more) about how economic development has raised the standard of living, and per capita income, in the Falklands to the second highest in the American continent (after the United States). It says this comes from tourism and more importantly fishing – although income from this has dropped recently. It outlines how this income has been spent on infrastructure, education, etc. It also says that the Islanders hope for oil development. It says this could cause friction with Argentina - although it mentions the 1995 Oil Accord in this context.
The article points out the unwillingness of Islanders to trade with Argentina – for obvious reasons. Interestingly it suggests that the Argentine Foreign Ministry believes that for trade there would have to be an agreement recognising Argentine sovereignty! (This is difficult to believe – but if it is true then it’s yet another very good reason for not having trade between the Falklands and Argentina).
This main article is fairly upbeat over the Falklands, but on the same page there is another smaller, and rather unpleasant, article by former Foreign Minister Adalberto Giavarini. He says that the prosperity of "the British colonial population who occupy our islands" shouldn’t lead to errors of perception. He goes on to say that Islander prosperity does not change anything. He clearly wants Islanders to be thought of just as Britons living in an overseas colony, and particularly criticises what he considers to be attempts by Islanders to establish a separate identity for the Falklands (from Britain). For example, he even complains about the use of the suffix "fk" for Falklands e-mail addresses instead of "uk", which is what he thinks it should be. He again uses his offensive description "media babble" for Islander claims to the right of self-determination at the UN.
There are also reports in the press of the burial of three of the founders of the "Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo", the organisation that protested during and after the military dictatorship about the disappearance (murder) of their children. The mothers’ three bodies were only found and identified recently. They had been murdered by Alfredo Astiz (the not very gallant defender of South Georgia during the Falklands War).

BSAP REGIMENTAL ASSOCIATION SUNDOWNERS
A small delegation of Springbok Club officials were again most honoured to join the UK Branch of the BSAP Regimental Association for their monthly "sundowners" gathering in London earlier this month. This turned out to be a highly enjoyable event and friendship and liaison between the two organisations was cemented even further as a result. The BSAP Regimental Association are certainly to be congratulated upon their efforts to keep the spirit of Rhodesia alive, and happily they are not alone in this respect, for other organisations such as Rhodesians Worldwide, the Rhodesian Army Association, the Rhodesian Christian Group, the South African-based Flame Lily Foundation and the New Zealand-based Kamina Kawena organisation are doing similarly. Colleen Letard was a leading Natal Table-Tennis player, who won a number of provincial titles during the late 1970s. Of French-Mauritian ancestry, she was a breath-taking beauty who had many admirers among local sportsmen, and indeed it is believed that she bore a child to one of them during the mid-1980s. EMPIRE LOYALIST
Sir,
If I may say so, our Empire Day Celebrations went off superbly, and it was an honour to be able to address such a receptive and friendly audience upon the topic of "Flags of the Empire". Hopefully by next year, with a "second glorious revolution", we may be able to hold our Celebrations in the Colonial Office, Dominions Office or the India Office, and to consign to history the evils of the European Union and unwanted mass foreign immigration! The sooner the Third British Empire is up and running the better, and not least because it will stop hundreds of millions of pounds of British taxpayers money being spent on foreigners, which in reality only ends up in the pockets of the governments instead of the welfare of their citizens.
Malaya, Singapore, Ceylon, India and the Dutch East Indies will be better off under European Imperial Rule, as not only will money spent in these lands actually be spent on helping the ordinary people, but also the daily administration will be more effective and fair.
Besides, it is only right and proper that buildings such as Government House Calcutta, Fort Fincastle in the Bahamas and Government House in Cape Town fly the Union Flag which is the birthright and protection of all the peoples of the Third British Empire, instead of the mishmash rags of mob-rule majority-rule Republic of India, the Bahamas and the "new" South Africa. Instead of living in a "World Turned Upside Down" of chaos, misery, hypocrisy, madness and quisling politicians, we must have a world order based upon justice, the rule of law and common-sense, with the Third British Empire at the forefront.

I am struck at the irony of the London bombings - essentially these are the progeny of the IRA campaigns in mainland Britain. We know what happened there - capitulation to the terrorists, followed by political preference to Sinn Fein.
Who can doubt that there are now two active threads in relation to Islamic terrorism?
1) The public face of "utter determination to prevail"; and
2) The private face of "secret concession and double-speak", leading to fundamental betrayal.
We can only hope that President Bush will give Blair some backbone.

Knowing the attitude towards their former colonial masters, I believe Africans would rather go back to their barbaric past than be restored to their colonial prime. Mugabe's destruction of the benefits that colonialism brought to Rhodesia/Zimbabwe is proof of this. What African leaders want is Western technology and material benefits, without strings attached. G8 decisions taken were not as well received by African leaders as the propagandists might have given us to believe. Too much is asked of them in return for debt relief and aid, and I believe time will show that few of them will meet with the criteria laid down at Gleneagles.

September 2005 edition
Although the recent disorder in West Belfast was of course regrettable, it was even so unsurprising. Ever since the so-called Belfast Agreement – and more particularly since the despicable Patten Report - the Unionist population of Northern Ireland has quite justifiably felt aggrieved and suppressed in their own country.
The catalyst for this latest disorder was a march by the local Orange Order lodges in the Springmartin district of West Belfast, when briefly the Orangemen would walk down a road where many Republican residents lived, which the sinister "Parades Commission" had ruled "illegal". The Republicans do not own the road of course - it is the Queen's Highway, so therefore all law-abiding citizens have every right to utilise it. The Orange Order, of course, stands for civil and religious liberties for ALL and their parades moreover provide colour and spectacle for all to enjoy. What could possibly be the objection of the local residents to this joyful display of freedom therefore? If they do not like living in the United Kingdom and dislike such manifestations of loyalty to the Crown then their answer is obvious. They should immediately re-locate to the Republic of Ireland or to elsewhere in the world.
But another more sinister factor was in play during this recent confrontation, namely the actions of the newly-constituted Police Service of Northern Ireland, whose actions on the day were construed by many observers to be both biased and heavy-handed. All but Republican terrorists and their apologists agreed that the former force of law and order in Northern Ireland, the Royal Ulster Constabulary, was totally neutral in their application of the law. In spite of unsubstantiated claims by Nationalists that it was a "sectarian" police force, over 8% of its personnel were Roman Catholic - regardless of the great intimidation which they endured from Republican terrorists. The abolition of the RUC as a result of the Patten Report (and it should be remembered that Chris Patten, in spite of being a nominal Conservative, is a devout Roman Catholic and a pro-EU fanatic) was one of the most shameful events in recent British history, and the rules for the composition of the new PSNI display all of the most dangerous aspects of "affirmative action". Patten decreed that the new force should be 50% Roman Catholic and 50% Protestant (in effect non-Roman Catholic) - in spite of the fact that Roman Catholics make up less than 40% of the population of Northern Ireland as a whole. "Affirmative action" has proved disastrous in South Africa, and it will prove equally disastrous in Ulster, as we do not doubt that the real cause of the recent disorder was the biased actions of the new police service. The current quota system imposed by Patten must therefore be abolished immediately, and ideally the police service in Northern Ireland should be re-named the Royal Ulster Constabulary.
The factor which is most disturbing, however, is the part played in this dispute by the new Secretary of State for Northern Ireland, Peter Hain. It should be remembered by all that Hain was the leading figure in the anti-South African protests against peaceful touring South African sports teams during the late 1960s and early 1970s. Several of the actions of his protesters at the time can only be described as crypto-terrorism (such as the hi-jacking of team coaches, the sprinkling of tin-tacks on rugby pitches and threats to shoot off bails at cricket matches). Hain's latest unjustified condemnation of the Orange Order was therefore only to be expected from such an evil man. He should be removed from office immediately, and hopefully one day will face charges for conspiracy, sedition and the glorification of terrorism.

Although the Springbok Club was faced with an acute problem last month when the planned speaker, Aaron Lucas, couldn't be contacted due to his military commitments, we were most grateful to the organisation's Treasurer, and a leading official in the London Swinton Circle, Mr. Allan Robertson, for "stepping into the breach" and delivering a highly enlightening talk under the theme of "The British Empire and its Continuing Legacy". He certainly didn't disappoint, and indeed delivered a most enlightening talk. It was also most encouraging to see such a larger than expected attendance for this replacement meeting organised at such short notice, particularly the high numbers of new faces who were present.

Michael Brufal de Melgarejo, the 9th Marques de Lendinez, was born in Gibraltar and educated in the UK at Downside School and Christ's College, Cambridge, where he read economics and law. He spent many years in Fleet Street on The Times, The Sunday Times and The Observer. For the past 43 years he has been London Correspondent (pro bono) of The Gibraltar Chronicle and has had countless articles published in the British media about Gibraltar. Michael was banned from entering Spain for more than twenty years; his crime being to promote the inalienable right of the Gibraltarians to self-determination. He has also written more published letters about Gibraltar in the British press than any other person. His first letter was published in the now defunct Reynolds News when he was only nine years old. He is a director of The Friends of Gibraltar Heritage Society, and at present is endeavouring to prove that the Foreign Office is wrong when they state that the town of Goole was never twinned with Gibraltar. This on-going battle should have reached conclusion by the date of the meeting.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB EVENTS
In October the Springbok Club will be organising a delegation to visit Gibraltar in order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. It is planned to stage a wreath-laying ceremony at the Trafalgar Cemetery during the day of Friday 21st October, to be followed by two events being organised by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust - a Trafalgar Day Dinner during the evening of Friday 21st October and a trip to Cape Trafalgar on Saturday 22nd October. Evidently hotel places on the Rock for this period and vacancies for the two events being staged by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust are filling up fast, so it is therefore suggested that all those who wish to join this trip should make arrangements as soon as possible. SPRINGBOK CLUB BRANCH NEWS
The Kent Branch of the Springbok Club staged a trip to the "Sea Britain" Saxon Community Fair in Herne Bay during August. This proved to be a most pleasant event organised in a traditional British country fair fashion, which the Springbok Club contingent enjoyed tremendously. Of particular interest was the performance of the New Scorpion Band, who played a medley of traditional British sea-shanties (as well as a selection of other traditional British folk songs), which was especially significant during the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar.
The Chilterns Branch of the Springbok Club is hoping to stage a get-together towards the end of the year when a well-known personality from the British patriotic movement will be present.
The London Branch of the Springbok Club is planning to hold a meeting early during 2006 when one of their members will be giving a talk on early Anglo-Saxon history.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The London Swinton Circle's summer buffet was staged earlier this month, whereat the Guest of Honour was Mr. Simon Heffer, the acclaimed Daily Mail columnist. Mr. Heffer gave a masterful speech in which he gave a full analysis of the current British political scene, particularly in relation to the forthcoming Conservative leadership election.
[Alas this gathering was marred considerably by the unwelcome presence of a certain Mr. Mike Smith. Smith is evidently the leading-light behind an obscure organisation called the "Conservative Democratic Alliance" (CDA), which in spite of its total insignificance still manages to run a fairly impressive web-site. This web-site contains a discussion "forum", upon which there recently appeared some quite vile and abusive attacks upon the London Swinton Circle, the Springbok Club, and certain leading officials of both these organisations - some of which were posted by Smith himself. It was therefore quite astonishing that Smith should wish to attend a meeting staged by an organisation which he evidently holds in such low esteem. When one of the leading officials of the LSC confronted the scruffily-dressed Smith to complain about these offensive postings on his site, however, he began to cause a scene by first threatening to "call the police" and then starting to hurl infantile and offensive abuse at the leadership of the organisation. Only the desire of other officials to prevent violent confrontation in front of guests present prevented Smith from being physically ejected from the meeting. We were subsequently informed that this Smith character has a long history of legal actions and Internet confrontations, thus suggesting that he attracts trouble wherever he goes. We would therefore be most keen to learn more details about this trouble-making individual and the organisation which he claims to run. Needless to say, all information received will be treated with the utmost confidence.]

REPORT FROM THE ZIMBABWE CONSERVATION TASK FORCE
We would like to report that thanks to various people and organizations who donated money for the tranquilizer M99 in response to our appeal for the snared Bumi elephants, wire snares have been removed from an elephant and a buffalo in the Bumi Hills area.
We would like to offer our heartfelt appreciation to the donors and to all the people involved in the removal of these snares which is an extremely dangerous and complicated operation. Thanks also to the very kind people who flew the team into Bumi free of charge and to the aviation company who flew in the M99.
It has been reported that the elephant and the buffalo have recovered since the snares were removed and are doing very well.

LATEST FALKLANDS NEWS
Recently La Nacion carried a major article entitled "Los Kelpers ya no son ciudadanos de segunda" (The Kelpers are not second-class citizens any more) about how economic development has raised the standard of living, and per capita income, in the Falklands to the second highest in the American continent (after the United States). It says this comes from tourism and more importantly fishing – although income from this has dropped recently. It outlines how this income has been spent on infrastructure, education, etc. It also says that the Islanders hope for oil development. It says this could cause friction with Argentina - although it mentions the 1995 Oil Accord in this context.
The article points out the unwillingness of Islanders to trade with Argentina – for obvious reasons. Interestingly it suggests that the Argentine Foreign Ministry believes that for trade there would have to be an agreement recognising Argentine sovereignty! (This is difficult to believe – but if it is true then it’s yet another very good reason for not having trade between the Falklands and Argentina).
This main article is fairly upbeat over the Falklands, but on the same page there is another smaller, and rather unpleasant, article by former Foreign Minister Adalberto Giavarini. He says that the prosperity of "the British colonial population who occupy our islands" shouldn’t lead to errors of perception. He goes on to say that Islander prosperity does not change anything. He clearly wants Islanders to be thought of just as Britons living in an overseas colony, and particularly criticises what he considers to be attempts by Islanders to establish a separate identity for the Falklands (from Britain). For example, he even complains about the use of the suffix "fk" for Falklands e-mail addresses instead of "uk", which is what he thinks it should be. He again uses his offensive description "media babble" for Islander claims to the right of self-determination at the UN.
There are also reports in the press of the burial of three of the founders of the "Mothers of the Plaza de Mayo", the organisation that protested during and after the military dictatorship about the disappearance (murder) of their children. The mothers’ three bodies were only found and identified recently. They had been murdered by Alfredo Astiz (the not very gallant defender of South Georgia during the Falklands War).

BSAP REGIMENTAL ASSOCIATION SUNDOWNERS
A small delegation of Springbok Club officials were again most honoured to join the UK Branch of the BSAP Regimental Association for their monthly "sundowners" gathering in London earlier this month. This turned out to be a highly enjoyable event and friendship and liaison between the two organisations was cemented even further as a result. The BSAP Regimental Association are certainly to be congratulated upon their efforts to keep the spirit of Rhodesia alive, and happily they are not alone in this respect, for other organisations such as Rhodesians Worldwide, the Rhodesian Army Association, the Rhodesian Christian Group, the South African-based Flame Lily Foundation and the New Zealand-based Kamina Kawena organisation are doing similarly. Hopefully there will be even closer links and liaison between all these most praise-worthy movements in the days ahead.

No.82: Miss COLLEEN LETARD of Durban
Colleen Letard was a leading Natal Table-Tennis player, who won a number of provincial titles during the late 1970s. Of French-Mauritian ancestry, she was a breath-taking beauty who had many admirers among local sportsmen, and indeed it is believed that she bore a child to one of them during the mid-1980s. She served for a while in the South African Embassy (as it then was) in London during the mid-1970s, and an old friend from that time would be very keen to make contact with her again.

EMPIRE LOYALIST
Sir,
If I may say so, our Empire Day Celebrations went off superbly, and it was an honour to be able to address such a receptive and friendly audience upon the topic of "Flags of the Empire". Hopefully by next year, with a "second glorious revolution", we may be able to hold our Celebrations in the Colonial Office, Dominions Office or the India Office, and to consign to history the evils of the European Union and unwanted mass foreign immigration! The sooner the Third British Empire is up and running the better, and not least because it will stop hundreds of millions of pounds of British taxpayers money being spent on foreigners, which in reality only ends up in the pockets of the governments instead of the welfare of their citizens.
Malaya, Singapore, Ceylon, India and the Dutch East Indies will be better off under European Imperial Rule, as not only will money spent in these lands actually be spent on helping the ordinary people, but also the daily administration will be more effective and fair.
Besides, it is only right and proper that buildings such as Government House Calcutta, Fort Fincastle in the Bahamas and Government House in Cape Town fly the Union Flag which is the birthright and protection of all the peoples of the Third British Empire, instead of the mishmash rags of mob-rule majority-rule Republic of India, the Bahamas and the "new" South Africa. Instead of living in a "World Turned Upside Down" of chaos, misery, hypocrisy, madness and quisling politicians, we must have a world order based upon justice, the rule of law and common-sense, with the Third British Empire at the forefront.

I notice that the Left are slowly getting round to the plight of the Blacks in occupied Rhodesia - no word about the Whites of course. 25 years of tyranny and terrorism and now they feel they must show some sympathy – but no guilt, even though it is they who brought about the evil of Mugabe and his 'Zimbabwe' state.

I am struck at the irony of the London bombings - essentially these are the progeny of the IRA campaigns in mainland Britain. We know what happened there - capitulation to the terrorists, followed by political preference to Sinn Fein.
Who can doubt that there are now two active threads in relation to Islamic terrorism?
1) The public face of "utter determination to prevail"; and
2) The private face of "secret concession and double-speak", leading to fundamental betrayal.
We can only hope that President Bush will give Blair some backbone.
Time for a change in Britain.

Sir,
Knowing the attitude towards their former colonial masters, I believe Africans would rather go back to their barbaric past than be restored to their colonial prime. Mugabe's destruction of the benefits that colonialism brought to Rhodesia/Zimbabwe is proof of this. What African leaders want is Western technology and material benefits, without strings attached. G8 decisions taken were not as well received by African leaders as the propagandists might have given us to believe. Too much is asked of them in return for debt relief and aid, and I believe time will show that few of them will meet with the criteria laid down at Gleneagles.

The terrorist attacks in London during the past few weeks have demonstrated not only the insidious threat which the entire Western world now faces from an ancient foe, but also the utter stupidity of trying to appease this enemy.
Just a few days after the adherents of the puerile "Make Poverty History" campaign were protesting at the G8 summit at Gleneagles advocating that all loans to third world countries should be written-off, terrorists from some of these same third world countries were showing that they would never be satisfied until Western civilisation was totally destroyed. Appeasement didn't work in 1938, and it will not work today.
It is not particularly surprising that these Islamic terrorists chose London as the scene for their latest atrocity, for London must have seemed a "soft touch" to them on a par with Madrid. This was not only because of the appeasement and lack of resolve shown towards IRA terrorism by successive British governments over recent decades, but also because London witnessed one of the West's biggest demonstrations in opposition to the War against Terrorism in Iraq a couple of years ago.
In this regard those who masterminded the Islamic bombing campaign made two grave miscalculations. Firstly they believed that the claimed 2 million (undoubtedly in itself a big exaggeration) who marched in opposition to military action being taken against the Ba'athist regime and al-Qa'eda in Iraq somehow represented the British people as a whole. Needless to say it didn't. There are estimated to be between a million and a million and a quarter Muslims currently resident in the UK, all of whom quite naturally would have opposed military action in Arab lands. When this is taken into account then the size of the demonstration wasn't really surprising, and most certainly didn't represent the indigenous British people. Secondly the terrorists didn't seem to realise that although Britain is by nature a tolerant and peace-loving nation, once aroused the British Lion becomes a most ruthless, efficient and determined fighting beast. Napoleon, Kaiser Bill, Hitler, Galtieri and Saddam Hussein all learnt this the hard way in the past, and al-Qa'eda and their supporters will learn this lesson now.
Apparently there have already been numerous attacks upon Islamic targets in Britain. Mosques have been fire-bombed and Muslims youths confronted in the streets - though most such actions have not been reported in the media for fear of encouraging further copy-cat responses from the public at large.
But it shouldn't be left to ordinary British citizens to take revenge for the murders of their fellow-countrymen. It is the government and the security forces who should be leading the fight against terrorism. A debate rages over whether there is a difference between "moderate" Islam and "extremist" Islam, or whether the desire to conquer and control the planet is central to the Mohammedan faith. If, as many increasingly believe, it is the latter then firm steps must be taken to eradicate the Islamic menace threatening us from within. If the authorities were to decide that the safety and security of the nation demands that all Mosques in Britain should be closed and all Muslims deported then so be it.

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S JULY ACTIVITY
The Springbok Club organised a trip to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich in August in order to see a special exhibition being staged there entitled "Nelson and Napoleon". This exhibition recounted events which led to the Napoleonic Wars and their outcome (particularly the war at sea) by tracing the parallel lives of both Viscount Horatio Nelson and Napoleon Bonaparte. It was a novel approach, though alas not quite what most people really expected at an event celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. Far better, one member said, if the exhibition had concentrated solely upon the life and career of Viscount Nelson and the ascendancy of British sea-power.
After visiting the exhibition most of the party adjourned to a near-by hostelry, where one supporter who currently holds an influential position with the UKIP caucus at the European Parliament was able to pass on a lot of interesting information about the current intrigues in Brussels.

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S AUGUST MEETING
As readers will know, it was anticipated that the Springbok Club would be addressed by a serving member of the British Armed Forces who had seen active service in the War against Terrorism in Iraq during August. Unfortunately however, in spite of much effort, we have been unable to re-contact this serviceman in order to confirm arrangements. We are uncertain of the precise reason for this, but believe that he has experienced some last-minute changes in his military posting, but we are still very hopeful that he will be able to speak to the Springbok Club at some later date.
We are most pleased to announce, however, that Mr. Allan Robertson who has been prepared to "step into the breach" at short notice, and will address the organisation in August instead. Mr. Robertson is of course the current Treasurer of the Springbok Club, and in May was the guest speaker at the Springbok Club's Northern Ireland Branch's Empire Day gathering in Enniskillen. His speech on that occasion, entitled "The British Empire and its Continuing Legacy", was extremely well received, and his forthcoming address will be an updated version of this. It is planned to stage a wreath-laying ceremony at the Trafalgar Cemetery during the day of Friday 21st October, to be followed by two events being organised by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust - a Trafalgar Day Dinner during the evening of Friday 21st October and a trip to Cape Trafalgar on Saturday 22nd October. LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The London Swinton Circle held a most interesting meeting which was addressed by Mr. Adrian Hilton last month. Mr. Hilton was originally selected as official Conservative Party candidate for the Slough constituency at the recent general election, but was ordered to be de-selected by Michael Howard (aka Hecht) following criticisms of articles which he had written for "The Spectator" magazine. Mr. Hilton gave a most enthralling and eloquent speech in which he outlined the details of the unfortunate fate which had befallen him, and the sinister role which had been played by the "The Catholic Herald" which led to his de-selection. There were some misgivings expressed at the fact that he failed to answer certain questions relating to Islamic extremism following the recent bombing outrages in London however.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE ZIMBABWE CONSERVATION TASK FORCE
It is the expressed and unequivocal purpose and policy of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force to work without financial or material gain and to be completely independent of political predilection towards the holistic preservation of Zimbabwe's wildlife, associated environments and natural resources for the absolute benefit of the country and as an incontrovertible legacy to future generations of Zimbabweans.
It is stated without reservation, that the allegations made against myself of exaggeration and misguided attempts to raise funds for personal gain, are falsely made by the uninformed, and in many cases the culpable perpetrators.
Abundant evidence exists amongst the vast majority of local, regional and international supporters of wildlife and natural resources stakeholders.
Since the inception of the ZCTF in 2001, numerous attempts have been made to bring to the attention of all stakeholders and various authorities, the intolerable and unsustainable magnitude of the following:-
i. Extensive wildlife destruction through poaching within and without proclaimed wildlife areas using inhumane means.
ii. Organised illegal hunting by known individuals and organisations within and without proclaimed hunting areas and with a total disregard for the balance of species and the sustainability of off-take.
iii. The decimation of aquatic natural resources by careless netting and illegal fishing practices including poisoning.
iv. The decimation of vast tracts of pristine, natural woodland areas through injudicious deforestation.
v. The destruction of natural watercourses, rivers and dams through alluvial gold mining and panning and the subsequent embankment and surrounding natural environment destruction.
vi. The illegal dealing in and exporting and smuggling of wild animals and wildlife by-products.
Given the reluctance of role-players and authorities to hear and heed the evidence of the ZCTF, coupled with their unwillingness to cooperate on extensive malpractice information, or to launch their own initiatives and as a result of which, the concerns as outlined have been related to the media by the ZCTF based on the best possible information and evidence. In so doing without fabrication or any malicious intent whatsoever, the ZCTF has endeavoured to portray the true picture pertaining to environmental and wildlife issues in Zimbabwe.
The extensive data collated since 2001 by ZCTF, has been provided by private individuals, by employees of various authorities and by attentive organisations, each with direct access to bear witness, and all of whom share equal anxiety for the current and future preservation of Zimbabwe's wildlife. For obvious reasons, the individual identities within this witness sector cannot be made public under the current dispensation.
It is imperative that it be widely known, that the current rate of devastation across Zimbabwe through thoughtless and irresponsible malpractice, regardless of culpability, is directly and rapidly serving to irretrievably harm:-
i. Covenants of best practice for natural resource management
ii. Species diversity availability and permanence
iii. Sensitive species breeding stocks and natural regeneration thereof
iv. Water courses, rivers, dams and wetland environments
v. Fishing and related aquatic based enterprises
vi. Tourism and foreign exchange capital ventures
vii. Hunting and foreign exchange capital ventures
viii.Forest and pristine woodland stability and sustainable harvesting thereof
ix. Large-scale commercial and communal agriculture
x. Ethnic cultures and natural ancestral heritage sites and areas
Seed capital in the form of residual wildlife stocks required for recovery of wildlife and the natural environment is currently perilously positioned. Recovery to normalcy is now estimated to be up to and beyond fifteen years.
Given this precarious situation, ALL STAKEHOLDERS are encouraged to seek early dialogue with one another and the ZCTF to firstly, resolve and reconcile any differences. Secondly, to share pertinent information and concerns with a view to implementing strategic options in the best interests of preserving Zimbabwe's wildlife resources.
Open dialogue is the cornerstone to securing resolutions in the challenges that lie ahead. The ZCTF subscribes to this principle and mindful of such extends an open invitation to ALL STAKEHOLDERS, to meet in a transparent and frank manner for the purpose of allaying all issues.

AFRIKANER CHARITY NEWSLETTER
The following report has been received from Marge Leitner of the Afrikaner Charity Trust:-
According to one of our local Sunday Newspapers "Die Wêreld", the number of Whites in South Africa who are living below the breadline has risen to a frightening 430,000. I am certain that this number is rising steadily. We have approximately 2 million Afrikaners here, so whichever way you do your maths this is a disaster of immense proportions in the making.
Recently there was a 'phone-in show on Afrikaans radio where a Prof. Christina Landman was interviewed, and the general trend of the conversation was to illustrate the appalling repercussions upon the impoverished Afrikaner in South Africa. During a subsequent telephone conversation I had with her I could see how the general family profile of the poor Afrikaner is also changing. Many males are becoming migrant workers. This means that they will go elsewhere to look for work as there is no work in the towns where they are living. Very often this results in the father/husband going overseas to get work. Many South Africans, for instance, are in Iraq, where they have received lucrative job offers in the security industry. Whilst many return to care for their families, there are many who don’t return and eventually leave the unfortunate mother/wife to her own devices. The resultant impact on these families is very often devastating. There are many Afrikaners who, before the breadwinner lost his job due to "affirmative action" policies which are in place in this country, were living in relative luxury, so therefore the blow to the wife/mother and the children when the father and husband doesn’t return is something none of us can imagine. Prof. Landman was saying that these mothers are then driven to desperate measures. First of all the shame of having no income is enough to set the scene for panic action. The thought that someone in their group of friends will find out that they are now classed as "poor" is almost too much to bear. If the mother has any office skills at all then they go to the Black locations, i.e. Soweto. They seek out the Black businessmen there to offer their services. Why do they do this? So that nobody will see that they are forced to seek employment and that the husband has absconded. Apart from the fact that these neighbours and friends will find out anyway that the family is in dire straights is something the desperate mother doesn’t consider. She will do anything to hide the true state of affairs. There are many who are also working as servants in upper-class neighbourhoods, rather than allow anyone to know how bad things are at home.
What Prof. Landman also said is that many of the men who lose their jobs actually end up in hospital in a state of shock. They desperately need counselling and very often the fear of the unknown drives them to desperate action, such as suicide. Many of the men walk out on their family and just keep on walking down the street. On the streets life is harsh. They end up becoming drug addicts or addicted to alcohol, which, if not treated, will speed up their journey to the morgue. This has also been the experience of Ria and myself from "Afrikaner Charity" during our visits to the transit camps and subsequent conversations we have had with the residents there.
Another phenomenon which manifests itself is the extreme bitterness which takes hold of the mother of the broken family. I can personally attest to this. These women become withdrawn and anti-social. It is difficult to talk to them as they do not wish to communicate with anyone in particular. They also do not participate in many of the programmes the management of the transit camp plans for the residents. Some women are lucky enough to rise above themselves and find an outlet in some of the skills which are taught at the camps, such as fabric painting, knitting and sewing.
A shock report last week, which was covered by the Afrikaans newspaper "Rapport", was that the official unemployment figure in South Africa is 26.9% (i.e. 4,4 million people) according to "Statistics South Africa". What was even more shocking was the reaction of the "president" of this country, Thabo Mbeki. He questioned these statistics and stated that if these statistics are to be believed one would see the poor on every street corner in the cities of this country. Journalist Johan Eybers of "Rapport" went into the streets of Johannesburg and photographed the poor as they stood in the queues waiting patiently for a plate of food which some of the soup and food kitchens hand-out to the poverty stricken. He photographed the poor begging on every street corner. There are literally thousands who roam the streets on a daily basis. According to a well-known political analyst, Mr Harald Pakendorf, Mbeki is well-known for his denial attitude toward the HIV/AIDS pandemic, a\s also now toward the high unemployment figure. It is obvious that this government finds it extremely difficult to face reality, and even more difficult to take responsibility for the reality of poverty, i.e. HIV/AIDS and crime.

The Falkland Islands Association circulates regular informative reports from the Argentinean press, which we believe many readers will be interested to read. We will therefore be including some of these reports from time to time in the SCN, and re-produce a recent such report below:-
"There were several more Falklands related articles in the later updates to the Argentine press websites yesterday. This morning there are just two reports – in Ambito Financiero and ClarÃn.
"The later articles yesterday were all basically repeats of the morning articles about the Decolonisation Committee meeting – with Bielsa going on about the Islander “insults”, etc. I personally now believe that he is deliberately emphasizing these (and indeed exaggerating them) to get publicity and boost his election chances. There was nothing new in these articles, except that INFOBAE had a hint from Bielsa that the next Foreign Minister might be Federico Mirre, who is currently the Argentine ambassador in London.
"Ambito Financiero this morning has a report about an Argentine protest being made to the United States for receiving Councillors Birmingham and Luxton at a meeting with the State Department. It hints at what I have said above: that Bielsa is really fighting the election. It refers to Bielsa as “unstoppable” and says that he has never been so effusive before on the subject of the Malvinas since he took office - 'Unless the double role of minister and candidate has triggered his actions that without doubt guarantee press publicity'. It comments that 'Others have tried before to use the Malvinas cause in 1982 with disastrous results'.
"Clarin’s article this morning is entitled 'Malvinas: They try to lower the temperature of the dispute with the Kelpers'. This basically reports British Government sources subtly trying to smooth things over by saying: 'There are strong sentiments on both sides, Islanders and Argentines'. It goes on to say that: 'In no moment did Councillor Birmingham compare the government of President Kirchner with that of Galtieri'. 'Neither did he describe anyone as a bully. But he did say that many people perceive the Argentine Government to be an overbearing administration'.
"ClarÃn also has an article this morning in which Bielsa is hitting back at the other candidates in his election race. For example, he calls Mauricio Macri, his right of centre opponent, a 'spendthrift'. No surprise there."

MALICIOUS NONSENSE CIRCULATED ON THE WEB
We have regrettably recently received two most disturbing circular reports which claim that the City of Birmingham is "nearly 50%" Muslim, one such ridiculous item appearing in "Southern Cross Africa News" of 13th June 2005 – an e-mail circular which we usually hold in high regard.
The population of Birmingham is of course nowhere near as high as 50% Muslim. Even the official 2001 Census only claimed that Birmingham was 14% Muslim - and as we all know the Muslims deliberately inflated their own figures at this Census in order to advance their own cause - so the actual figure is therefore undoubtedly even lower.
Such false and doom-mongering reports can of course only originate from our enemies, who undoubtedly circulate them in order to spread depression and pessimism among the White population. We are therefore very surprised – to say the least - that the Southern Cross Africa organisation should be enacting our enemies' bidding in this regard.

THE DEATH
Sir,
I cannot resist saying something about old Heath. The Federation of Conservative Students took great delight in removing him as a patron at the Loughborough Conference in 1985. Another odious Europhile, John Selwyn Gummer, was also booed after he reprimanded the FCS for its alleged extremism. Once Gummer departed his speech was replayed in the conference hall and the delegates made the appropriate remarks. We also helped undermine the leadership campaign of heathite Ken Clarke in 2001 by asking him at the London hustings meetings some awkward questions on the Belfast Agreement and the Patten Report which Clarke supported but the majority of delegates opposed.
Now that Heath is dead perhaps the Tory Party can get on with the business of dismantling his legacy. Perhaps we should install CCTV in the grave to see the body spinning!

SPORTING COLOURS
Sir,
When Britain plays rugby or cricket, it may at times play as a whole country. However, it often plays as its respective ethnic groups, i.e. the English team, Welsh team and so on.
Now in New Zealand the Maoris also have their own team, as ethnic respect to the Maori people.
Therefore we have to ask why when South Africa plays it only plays as a country. Why should it not at least occasionally represent its ethnic groupings? Why don't people respect the existence of ethnic groups in South Africa? I beg you don't just label us South African, because that wouldn't be a 'rainbow nation' of many varied colours.
The Super14 is the ideal opportunity for this ethnic respect. Likewise, cricket, golf and tennis hold out opportunities.

OBITUARY
It was with much sadness that we recently learnt the news that Oscar Hartung had died a couple of years ago. A giant of a man both physically and charismatically, he was the mainstay of the HNP in Northern Natal for many years, and was also a good friend of S.A. Patriot. We extend our sincerest condolences to Oscar's family.

August 2005 edition
The terrorist attacks in London during the past few weeks have demonstrated not only the insidious threat which the entire Western world now faces from an ancient foe, but also the utter stupidity of trying to appease this enemy.
Just a few days after the adherents of the puerile "Make Poverty History" campaign were protesting at the G8 summit at Gleneagles advocating that all loans to third world countries should be written-off, terrorists from some of these same third world countries were showing that they would never be satisfied until Western civilisation was totally destroyed. Appeasement didn't work in 1938, and it will not work today.
It is not particularly surprising that these Islamic terrorists chose London as the scene for their latest atrocity, for London must have seemed a "soft touch" to them on a par with Madrid. This was not only because of the appeasement and lack of resolve shown towards IRA terrorism by successive British governments over recent decades, but also because London witnessed one of the West's biggest demonstrations in opposition to the War against Terrorism in Iraq a couple of years ago.
In this regard those who masterminded the Islamic bombing campaign made two grave miscalculations. Firstly they believed that the claimed 2 million (undoubtedly in itself a big exaggeration) who marched in opposition to military action being taken against the Ba'athist regime and al-Qa'eda in Iraq somehow represented the British people as a whole. Needless to say it didn't. There are estimated to be between a million and a million and a quarter Muslims currently resident in the UK, all of whom quite naturally would have opposed military action in Arab lands. When this is taken into account then the size of the demonstration wasn't really surprising, and most certainly didn't represent the indigenous British people. Secondly the terrorists didn't seem to realise that although Britain is by nature a tolerant and peace-loving nation, once aroused the British Lion becomes a most ruthless, efficient and determined fighting beast. Napoleon, Kaiser Bill, Hitler, Galtieri and Saddam Hussein all learnt this the hard way in the past, and al-Qa'eda and their supporters will learn this lesson now.
Apparently there have already been numerous attacks upon Islamic targets in Britain. Mosques have been fire-bombed and Muslims youths confronted in the streets - though most such actions have not been reported in the media for fear of encouraging further copy-cat responses from the public at large.
But it shouldn't be left to ordinary British citizens to take revenge for the murders of their fellow-countrymen. It is the government and the security forces who should be leading the fight against terrorism. A debate rages over whether there is a difference between "moderate" Islam and "extremist" Islam, or whether the desire to conquer and control the planet is central to the Mohammedan faith. If, as many increasingly believe, it is the latter then firm steps must be taken to eradicate the Islamic menace threatening us from within. If the authorities were to decide that the safety and security of the nation demands that all Mosques in Britain should be closed and all Muslims deported then so be it.

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S JULY ACTIVITY
The Springbok Club organised a trip to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich in August in order to see a special exhibition being staged there entitled "Nelson and Napoleon". This exhibition recounted events which led to the Napoleonic Wars and their outcome (particularly the war at sea) by tracing the parallel lives of both Viscount Horatio Nelson and Napoleon Bonaparte. It was a novel approach, though alas not quite what most people really expected at an event celebrating the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. Far better, one member said, if the exhibition had concentrated solely upon the life and career of Viscount Nelson and the ascendancy of British sea-power.
After visiting the exhibition most of the party adjourned to a near-by hostelry, where one supporter who currently holds an influential position with the UKIP caucus at the European Parliament was able to pass on a lot of interesting information about the current intrigues in Brussels.

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S AUGUST MEETING
As readers will know, it was anticipated that the Springbok Club would be addressed by a serving member of the British Armed Forces who had seen active service in the War against Terrorism in Iraq during August. Unfortunately however, in spite of much effort, we have been unable to re-contact this serviceman in order to confirm arrangements. We are uncertain of the precise reason for this, but believe that he has experienced some last-minute changes in his military posting, but we are still very hopeful that he will be able to speak to the Springbok Club at some later date.
We are most pleased to announce, however, that Mr. Allan Robertson who has been prepared to "step into the breach" at short notice, and will address the organisation in August instead. Mr. Robertson is of course the current Treasurer of the Springbok Club, and in May was the guest speaker at the Springbok Club's Northern Ireland Branch's Empire Day gathering in Enniskillen. His speech on that occasion, entitled "The British Empire and its Continuing Legacy", was extremely well received, and his forthcoming address will be an updated version of this. In October the Springbok Club will be organising a delegation to visit Gibraltar in order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. It is planned to stage a wreath-laying ceremony at the Trafalgar Cemetery during the day of Friday 21st October, to be followed by two events being organised by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust - a Trafalgar Day Dinner during the evening of Friday 21st October and a trip to Cape Trafalgar on Saturday 22nd October. Evidently hotel places on the Rock for this period and vacancies for the two events being staged by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust are filling up fast, so it is therefore suggested that all those who wish to join this trip should make arrangements as soon as possible. LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The London Swinton Circle held a most interesting meeting which was addressed by Mr. Adrian Hilton last month. Mr. Hilton was originally selected as official Conservative Party candidate for the Slough constituency at the recent general election, but was ordered to be de-selected by Michael Howard (aka Hecht) following criticisms of articles which he had written for "The Spectator" magazine. Mr. Hilton gave a most enthralling and eloquent speech in which he outlined the details of the unfortunate fate which had befallen him, and the sinister role which had been played by the "The Catholic Herald" which led to his de-selection. There were some misgivings expressed at the fact that he failed to answer certain questions relating to Islamic extremism following the recent bombing outrages in London however.

PRESS RELEASE FROM THE ZIMBABWE CONSERVATION TASK FORCE
It is the expressed and unequivocal purpose and policy of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force to work without financial or material gain and to be completely independent of political predilection towards the holistic preservation of Zimbabwe's wildlife, associated environments and natural resources for the absolute benefit of the country and as an incontrovertible legacy to future generations of Zimbabweans.
It is stated without reservation, that the allegations made against myself of exaggeration and misguided attempts to raise funds for personal gain, are falsely made by the uninformed, and in many cases the culpable perpetrators.
Abundant evidence exists amongst the vast majority of local, regional and international supporters of wildlife and natural resources stakeholders.
Since the inception of the ZCTF in 2001, numerous attempts have been made to bring to the attention of all stakeholders and various authorities, the intolerable and unsustainable magnitude of the following:-
i. Extensive wildlife destruction through poaching within and without proclaimed wildlife areas using inhumane means.
ii. Organised illegal hunting by known individuals and organisations within and without proclaimed hunting areas and with a total disregard for the balance of species and the sustainability of off-take.
iii. The decimation of aquatic natural resources by careless netting and illegal fishing practices including poisoning.
iv. The decimation of vast tracts of pristine, natural woodland areas through injudicious deforestation.
v. The destruction of natural watercourses, rivers and dams through alluvial gold mining and panning and the subsequent embankment and surrounding natural environment destruction.
vi. The illegal dealing in and exporting and smuggling of wild animals and wildlife by-products.
Given the reluctance of role-players and authorities to hear and heed the evidence of the ZCTF, coupled with their unwillingness to cooperate on extensive malpractice information, or to launch their own initiatives and as a result of which, the concerns as outlined have been related to the media by the ZCTF based on the best possible information and evidence. In so doing without fabrication or any malicious intent whatsoever, the ZCTF has endeavoured to portray the true picture pertaining to environmental and wildlife issues in Zimbabwe.
The extensive data collated since 2001 by ZCTF, has been provided by private individuals, by employees of various authorities and by attentive organisations, each with direct access to bear witness, and all of whom share equal anxiety for the current and future preservation of Zimbabwe's wildlife. For obvious reasons, the individual identities within this witness sector cannot be made public under the current dispensation.
It is imperative that it be widely known, that the current rate of devastation across Zimbabwe through thoughtless and irresponsible malpractice, regardless of culpability, is directly and rapidly serving to irretrievably harm:-
i. Covenants of best practice for natural resource management
ii. Species diversity availability and permanence
iii. Sensitive species breeding stocks and natural regeneration thereof
iv. Water courses, rivers, dams and wetland environments
v. Fishing and related aquatic based enterprises
vi. Tourism and foreign exchange capital ventures
vii. Hunting and foreign exchange capital ventures
viii.Forest and pristine woodland stability and sustainable harvesting thereof
ix. Large-scale commercial and communal agriculture
x. Ethnic cultures and natural ancestral heritage sites and areas
Seed capital in the form of residual wildlife stocks required for recovery of wildlife and the natural environment is currently perilously positioned. Recovery to normalcy is now estimated to be up to and beyond fifteen years.
Given this precarious situation, ALL STAKEHOLDERS are encouraged to seek early dialogue with one another and the ZCTF to firstly, resolve and reconcile any differences. Secondly, to share pertinent information and concerns with a view to implementing strategic options in the best interests of preserving Zimbabwe's wildlife resources.
Open dialogue is the cornerstone to securing resolutions in the challenges that lie ahead. The ZCTF subscribes to this principle and mindful of such extends an open invitation to ALL STAKEHOLDERS, to meet in a transparent and frank manner for the purpose of allaying all issues.

AFRIKANER CHARITY NEWSLETTER
The following report has been received from Marge Leitner of the Afrikaner Charity Trust:-
According to one of our local Sunday Newspapers "Die Wêreld", the number of Whites in South Africa who are living below the breadline has risen to a frightening 430,000. I am certain that this number is rising steadily. We have approximately 2 million Afrikaners here, so whichever way you do your maths this is a disaster of immense proportions in the making.
Recently there was a 'phone-in show on Afrikaans radio where a Prof. Christina Landman was interviewed, and the general trend of the conversation was to illustrate the appalling repercussions upon the impoverished Afrikaner in South Africa. During a subsequent telephone conversation I had with her I could see how the general family profile of the poor Afrikaner is also changing. Many males are becoming migrant workers. This means that they will go elsewhere to look for work as there is no work in the towns where they are living. Very often this results in the father/husband going overseas to get work. Many South Africans, for instance, are in Iraq, where they have received lucrative job offers in the security industry. Whilst many return to care for their families, there are many who don’t return and eventually leave the unfortunate mother/wife to her own devices. The resultant impact on these families is very often devastating. There are many Afrikaners who, before the breadwinner lost his job due to "affirmative action" policies which are in place in this country, were living in relative luxury, so therefore the blow to the wife/mother and the children when the father and husband doesn’t return is something none of us can imagine. Prof. Landman was saying that these mothers are then driven to desperate measures. First of all the shame of having no income is enough to set the scene for panic action. The thought that someone in their group of friends will find out that they are now classed as "poor" is almost too much to bear. If the mother has any office skills at all then they go to the Black locations, i.e. Soweto. They seek out the Black businessmen there to offer their services. Why do they do this? So that nobody will see that they are forced to seek employment and that the husband has absconded. Apart from the fact that these neighbours and friends will find out anyway that the family is in dire straights is something the desperate mother doesn’t consider. She will do anything to hide the true state of affairs. There are many who are also working as servants in upper-class neighbourhoods, rather than allow anyone to know how bad things are at home.
What Prof. Landman also said is that many of the men who lose their jobs actually end up in hospital in a state of shock. They desperately need counselling and very often the fear of the unknown drives them to desperate action, such as suicide. Many of the men walk out on their family and just keep on walking down the street. On the streets life is harsh. They end up becoming drug addicts or addicted to alcohol, which, if not treated, will speed up their journey to the morgue. This has also been the experience of Ria and myself from "Afrikaner Charity" during our visits to the transit camps and subsequent conversations we have had with the residents there.
Another phenomenon which manifests itself is the extreme bitterness which takes hold of the mother of the broken family. I can personally attest to this. These women become withdrawn and anti-social. It is difficult to talk to them as they do not wish to communicate with anyone in particular. They also do not participate in many of the programmes the management of the transit camp plans for the residents. Some women are lucky enough to rise above themselves and find an outlet in some of the skills which are taught at the camps, such as fabric painting, knitting and sewing.
A shock report last week, which was covered by the Afrikaans newspaper "Rapport", was that the official unemployment figure in South Africa is 26.9% (i.e. 4,4 million people) according to "Statistics South Africa". What was even more shocking was the reaction of the "president" of this country, Thabo Mbeki. He questioned these statistics and stated that if these statistics are to be believed one would see the poor on every street corner in the cities of this country. Journalist Johan Eybers of "Rapport" went into the streets of Johannesburg and photographed the poor as they stood in the queues waiting patiently for a plate of food which some of the soup and food kitchens hand-out to the poverty stricken. He photographed the poor begging on every street corner. There are literally thousands who roam the streets on a daily basis. According to a well-known political analyst, Mr Harald Pakendorf, Mbeki is well-known for his denial attitude toward the HIV/AIDS pandemic, a\s also now toward the high unemployment figure. It is obvious that this government finds it extremely difficult to face reality, and even more difficult to take responsibility for the reality of poverty, i.e. HIV/AIDS and crime.

LATEST FALKLANDS NEWS
The Falkland Islands Association circulates regular informative reports from the Argentinean press, which we believe many readers will be interested to read. We will therefore be including some of these reports from time to time in the SCN, and re-produce a recent such report below:-
"There were several more Falklands related articles in the later updates to the Argentine press websites yesterday. This morning there are just two reports – in Ambito Financiero and ClarÃn.
"The later articles yesterday were all basically repeats of the morning articles about the Decolonisation Committee meeting – with Bielsa going on about the Islander “insults”, etc. I personally now believe that he is deliberately emphasizing these (and indeed exaggerating them) to get publicity and boost his election chances. There was nothing new in these articles, except that INFOBAE had a hint from Bielsa that the next Foreign Minister might be Federico Mirre, who is currently the Argentine ambassador in London.
"Ambito Financiero this morning has a report about an Argentine protest being made to the United States for receiving Councillors Birmingham and Luxton at a meeting with the State Department. It hints at what I have said above: that Bielsa is really fighting the election. It refers to Bielsa as “unstoppable” and says that he has never been so effusive before on the subject of the Malvinas since he took office - 'Unless the double role of minister and candidate has triggered his actions that without doubt guarantee press publicity'. It comments that 'Others have tried before to use the Malvinas cause in 1982 with disastrous results'.
"Clarin’s article this morning is entitled 'Malvinas: They try to lower the temperature of the dispute with the Kelpers'. This basically reports British Government sources subtly trying to smooth things over by saying: 'There are strong sentiments on both sides, Islanders and Argentines'. It goes on to say that: 'In no moment did Councillor Birmingham compare the government of President Kirchner with that of Galtieri'. 'Neither did he describe anyone as a bully. But he did say that many people perceive the Argentine Government to be an overbearing administration'.
"ClarÃn also has an article this morning in which Bielsa is hitting back at the other candidates in his election race. For example, he calls Mauricio Macri, his right of centre opponent, a 'spendthrift'. No surprise there."

MALICIOUS NONSENSE CIRCULATED ON THE WEB
We have regrettably recently received two most disturbing circular reports which claim that the City of Birmingham is "nearly 50%" Muslim, one such ridiculous item appearing in "Southern Cross Africa News" of 13th June 2005 – an e-mail circular which we usually hold in high regard.
The population of Birmingham is of course nowhere near as high as 50% Muslim. Even the official 2001 Census only claimed that Birmingham was 14% Muslim - and as we all know the Muslims deliberately inflated their own figures at this Census in order to advance their own cause - so the actual figure is therefore undoubtedly even lower.
Such false and doom-mongering reports can of course only originate from our enemies, who undoubtedly circulate them in order to spread depression and pessimism among the White population. We are therefore very surprised – to say the least - that the Southern Cross Africa organisation should be enacting our enemies' bidding in this regard.

THE DEATH
Sir,
I cannot resist saying something about old Heath. The Federation of Conservative Students took great delight in removing him as a patron at the Loughborough Conference in 1985. Another odious Europhile, John Selwyn Gummer, was also booed after he reprimanded the FCS for its alleged extremism. Once Gummer departed his speech was replayed in the conference hall and the delegates made the appropriate remarks. We also helped undermine the leadership campaign of heathite Ken Clarke in 2001 by asking him at the London hustings meetings some awkward questions on the Belfast Agreement and the Patten Report which Clarke supported but the majority of delegates opposed.
Now that Heath is dead perhaps the Tory Party can get on with the business of dismantling his legacy. Perhaps we should install CCTV in the grave to see the body spinning!

Sir,
When Britain plays rugby or cricket, it may at times play as a whole country. However, it often plays as its respective ethnic groups, i.e. the English team, Welsh team and so on.
Now in New Zealand the Maoris also have their own team, as ethnic respect to the Maori people.
Therefore we have to ask why when South Africa plays it only plays as a country. Why should it not at least occasionally represent its ethnic groupings? Why don't people respect the existence of ethnic groups in South Africa? I beg you don't just label us South African, because that wouldn't be a 'rainbow nation' of many varied colours.
The Super14 is the ideal opportunity for this ethnic respect. Likewise, cricket, golf and tennis hold out opportunities.

OBITUARY
It was with much sadness that we recently learnt the news that Oscar Hartung had died a couple of years ago. A giant of a man both physically and charismatically, he was the mainstay of the HNP in Northern Natal for many years, and was also a good friend of S.A. Patriot. We extend our sincerest condolences to Oscar's family.

July 2005 edition
From time to time in the past the SCN has been criticised for being over-optimistic about future world developments, particularly concerning the future of the European Union.
We have often stated that the very concept of the EU was illogical and untenable, and that eventually the entire structure was bound to implode. Even we, however, have been surprised by the speed with which this prediction now seems to be heading for fruition.
The recent referenda victories in both France and the Netherlands in opposition to the proposed European "constitution" were not only most encouraging results in themselves, but the sizes of the victory margins were so great that they can only be described as seismic. Although the French "No" vote may have been somewhat schizophrenic, that in the Netherlands was clearly a decisive Euro-sceptic statement. Notwithstanding the slight set-back when little Luxemburg voted in favour of the "constitution" (if Luxemburgers value their independence so lightly then their country should simply be absorbed into Belgium), it seems crystal clear that there would be similar - if not more decisive - Euro-sceptic votes in Britain, the Scandinavian countries and certain countries of eastern Europe, if the people there were given the chance to speak.
But an even more fundamental development has subsequently come about. Many in Italy - even within the Italian government - have been openly voicing the opinion that Italy should abandon the Euro and restore the Lira as their national currency. Now of course at the time of the introduction of the Euro most EU-fanatics (and even some Euro-sceptics who should have known better) were asserting that once introduced the Euro was "irreversible". In spite of the fact that Italian government hasn't so far taken steps leave the Euro-zone, the very fact that such a step is now being advocated at even the highest level has let the cat out of the bag; the Euro IS reversible.
It is not only the proposed European "constitution" and the Euro which seem to be heading for oblivion however. The whole EU-edifice is so artificial that it is like a stack of cards. Once it starts to experience one set-back then others will quickly follow, until the entire "European Project" comes tumbling down.
But what of the future. France and the Netherlands (as well as many other western European nations) enjoyed great and glorious colonial pasts, yet are now plagued by massive alienated immigrant populations from the "third world". Once freed from artificial EU entanglement all the great European powers will be able to look afresh to their former spheres of interest around the globe, and to re-assert their influence accordingly. Once such a state of affairs comes about then not only will their Empires of the past gradually be able to be restored, but they will also have places where their unhappy immigrant populations could easily be repatriated. In this regard it was interesting to note during a Springbok Club visit to Amsterdam in 1999 how there seemed to be a renewed interest among the Dutch people in their former Dutch East Indies colonies. The future looks bright, ......

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S JUNE ACTIVITY
In June the Springbok Club paid a visit to the Shakespeare Globe Theatre in London, where a special exhibition is being staged to mark the 400th anniversary of the Discovery of the Gunpowder Plot.
There was a good turnout for this event, and the exhibition itself proved to be most fascinating, being constructed in a very novel "who done it"-style police investigation format.
After the trip to the exhibition those taking part adjourned to a near-by hostelry, where they were joined by a number of other Springbok Club members for further convivial and fruitful discussions.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB EVENTS
The Springbok Club will be making a trip to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich in order to visit a special exhibition which they are staging to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar in July. The details are as follows:-
Date: Saturday 30th July 2005
Assembly time: 12.45 hrs to 13.15 hrs
Assembly place: Outside the main entrance to the exhibition at the National Maritime Museum (this is situated between King William Walk, Romney Road and Park Row in Greenwich, London SE10, and is only 5 minutes walk from the Cutty Sark Station on the Docklands Light Railway.)
Admission charges to the special exhibition are £9.00 for adults, £6.00 for concessions and £4.00 for children, which of course should be paid directly to the museum on the day. If a party of a certain size can be organised then a 20% discount is available, so if you intend attending please let us know as soon as possible by e-mailing: springbok@falklands.org. [N.B. Although the official title of this special exhibition is "Nelson & Napoleon" - we, for obvious reasons, prefer to call it the "Nelson & Trafalgar" exhibition!].
Towards the end of August the Springbok Club will be staging a special meeting to be addressed by a serving member of the British forces who has recently seen active service in the War against Terrorism in Iraq. More precise details will be given in next month's edition of the SCN.
In October the Springbok Club will be organising a delegation to visit Gibraltar in order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. It is planned to stage a wreath-laying ceremony at the Trafalgar Cemetery during the day of Friday 21st October, to be followed by two events being organised by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust - a Trafalgar Day Dinner during the evening of Friday 21st October and a trip to Cape Trafalgar on Saturday 22nd October. Evidently hotel places on the Rock for this period and vacancies for the two events being staged by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust are filling up fast, so it is therefore suggested that all those who wish to join this visit should make arrangements as soon as possible. The London Swinton Circle held a most interesting meeting last month which was addressed by Mr. Sammy Wilson MP, MLA, the newly-elected DUP MP for East Antrim. In spite of the last-minute notification of this meeting there was still a very good attendance, and Mr. Wilson certainly didn't disappoint, giving a most informative overview of the current situation in Ulster following the dramatic breakthroughs made by the DUP at the recent general election.

NEW BRITAIN NEWS
New Britain staged a most successful celebration last month in order to commemorate Canada Day 2005. A procession took place from St. Paul's Cathedral to St. Catherine Cree Church in Leadenhall Street, led by the Canadian flag and including many standard-bearers from the Royal British Legion. At St. Catherine Cree Church a short service took place at which Canadian poems were read and a special choir sang. Afterwards a garden party was held in an adjacent garden, where strawberries and cream were enjoyed by all.
Arrangements for New Britain's annual Australia Day celebrations for next year are already well in place, and will be held on 28th January 2006.

During Trafalgar Weekend, 21st/23rd October, a national chain of beacons is being planned to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
No.80: Mr. MICHIEL FALCK of Durban.
Michiel Falck was an administrative and organisational genius. Although originally from the Transvaal he lived most of his life in the Sherwood district of Durban, and held the position of Head Administrator at the University of Durban/Westville. He was a keen and dedicated member of the HNP, but his political activity didn't end there. He was the leading-light in the Sherwood Action Group (which successfully campaigned to keep the suburb of Sherwood White during the 1970s) and of the original White Rhino Club, and was also the de facto deputy editor of "S.A.Patriot". After he retired from the University of Durban/Westville he took on the position as the HNP's regional agent for southern Natal, but shortly after this defected to the Conservative Party of S.A. where he also held high rank - a move which alas caused great misgivings among many of his former colleagues. He was a man who couldn't suffer fools easily, and indeed had a very bad failing when it came to personal relationships - a fault which even he readily acknowledged! Alas nothing has been heard from him since 1990 so we therefore fear the worst, but even so would be very keen to learn what became of him.

BUILDING COLLAPSE
Sir,
A prominent building firm in Cape Town is about to bite the dust as a result of Black 'verneukery'.
The contract was for several million, but shortly after the tenders had been opened the successful tenderer (White) was told that he had to go into partnership with a second (Black) builder, as well as form an association with COSATU, the Black trade union body, as there were two hundred Blacks on his staff. The White builder began to have his doubts, but decided to sign the contract. In due course a certificate was prepared for two million Rand. This was awarded, not to the White builder but to the Black. The latter saw no necessity to notify his White colleague thereof, but paid the entire amount into his own bank account instead of that of the White builder, who had of course single-handedly financed the undertaking. But when the White builder advised the PWD that he now had no option but to go into liquidation, he was immediately told he could not do this without the consent of his "partner" and the Trades Union Congress! Such consent was not of course forthcoming. He has given the Public Works Department notice that he is now winding up his business. He was told that he could not do this either, but of course he has no alternative.
This is one of the inevitable results of Mr. Macmillan’s 'Winds of Change' speech. He cheerfully consigned South African Whites to wholesale victimisation in order to preserve his "democratic" image. A large amount of the blame must also be laid at the doors of those Whites who put the interests of the Blacks before that of their own White fellow countrymen.

ALL BLACK BEHAVIOUR

The recent disgraceful, unsporting and probably illegal behaviour of certain "New Zealand" players during the First Test against the British Lions was a disgrace and a blight on the sporting relations between the Dominions.
How can civilised and patriotic British people even watch New Zealand play rugby again without a full apology and suitable punishment being administered to the "players" concerned?

ROGUES GALLERY
Many readers may remember the name of a certain notorious Mark Cotterill. Cotterill made contact with our movement shortly after we were forced to relocate to the U.K. during the early 1990s - though it has never been certain how or why he originally made contact with us, as he doesn't appear to have any direct connections with Southern Africa whatsoever.
Prior to the merger between the White Rhino Club [mark II] and the Rhodesian Forum to form the Springbok Club, Cotterill invited the White Rhino Club to hold a weekend's activity in Devon (where he was then living) at a country inn which he assured us was run by a family who were supportive of our aims and objectives. The result of this weekend proved catastrophic however, for Cotterill turned up with a 'village-idiot' friend and promptly proceeded to sabotage and wreck the entire weekend - to such an extent that several genuine supporters who had travelled many miles to attend decided to leave early. Furthermore, it subsequently came to light that the proprietors of this Devon inn most certainly did not share our own neo-Imperialist ideals as we had been assured!
Shortly after this we learnt that Cotterill's flat in Torquay had been savaged twice, and that he himself had been badly beaten up - thus seeming to suggest that the man managed to collect enemies like other people collect postage stamps. Shortly after this, however, we heard that he had fled to the United States of America.
Over subsequent years we received several reports about him, and we learnt that he had connected himself to a succession of "weird and wonderful" organisations, until he evidently fell out with each of them in turn. A few years ago, however, we learnt that he had been deported from the United States because his immigration papers were invalid.
That we thought was the last that we would hear about this wretched creature - but a few weeks ago one of our supporters informed us that not only had he resurfaced in the U.K., but had furthermore become politically active once again, based at Blackburn in Lancashire. Evidently he originally tried to connect himself to the neo-fascist 'British' National Party, but then - inevitably - fell out with the leadership of this outfit. He then evidently inherited a large bequest upon the death of his mother (rumoured to be part-Chinese) and, with more money than sense, founded his own factional off-the-edge 'Little Englander' party called "England's First Party". Furthermore it seems that he has also launched his own publication called "Heritage & Destiny". Now of course "Heritage & Destiny" was the name of an excellent British patriotic magazine which we marketed through Patriotic Press in South Africa during the 1980s. We wonder therefore whether those behind the original "Heritage & Destiny" are aware that their name has been stolen?
Be this as it may, we would like to emphasise that the SCN has absolutely no connection whatsoever neither to this upstart “Heritage & Destiny”, nor to any other facet of Cotterill's little organisation. As Alice said in "Alice in Wonderland" - curiouser and curiouser ....

From time to time in the past the SCN has been criticised for being over-optimistic about future world developments, particularly concerning the future of the European Union.
We have often stated that the very concept of the EU was illogical and untenable, and that eventually the entire structure was bound to implode. Even we, however, have been surprised by the speed with which this prediction now seems to be heading for fruition.
The recent referenda victories in both France and the Netherlands in opposition to the proposed European "constitution" were not only most encouraging results in themselves, but the sizes of the victory margins were so great that they can only be described as seismic. Although the French "No" vote may have been somewhat schizophrenic, that in the Netherlands was clearly a decisive Euro-sceptic statement. Notwithstanding the slight set-back when little Luxemburg voted in favour of the "constitution" (if Luxemburgers value their independence so lightly then their country should simply be absorbed into Belgium), it seems crystal clear that there would be similar - if not more decisive - Euro-sceptic votes in Britain, the Scandinavian countries and certain countries of eastern Europe, if the people there were given the chance to speak.
But an even more fundamental development has subsequently come about. Many in Italy - even within the Italian government - have been openly voicing the opinion that Italy should abandon the Euro and restore the Lira as their national currency. Now of course at the time of the introduction of the Euro most EU-fanatics (and even some Euro-sceptics who should have known better) were asserting that once introduced the Euro was "irreversible". In spite of the fact that Italian government hasn't so far taken steps leave the Euro-zone, the very fact that such a step is now being advocated at even the highest level has let the cat out of the bag; the Euro IS reversible.
It is not only the proposed European "constitution" and the Euro which seem to be heading for oblivion however. The whole EU-edifice is so artificial that it is like a stack of cards. Once it starts to experience one set-back then others will quickly follow, until the entire "European Project" comes tumbling down.
But what of the future. France and the Netherlands (as well as many other western European nations) enjoyed great and glorious colonial pasts, yet are now plagued by massive alienated immigrant populations from the "third world". Once freed from artificial EU entanglement all the great European powers will be able to look afresh to their former spheres of interest around the globe, and to re-assert their influence accordingly. Once such a state of affairs comes about then not only will their Empires of the past gradually be able to be restored, but they will also have places where their unhappy immigrant populations could easily be repatriated. In this regard it was interesting to note during a Springbok Club visit to Amsterdam in 1999 how there seemed to be a renewed interest among the Dutch people in their former Dutch East Indies colonies. The future looks bright, ......

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S JUNE ACTIVITY
In June the Springbok Club paid a visit to the Shakespeare Globe Theatre in London, where a special exhibition is being staged to mark the 400th anniversary of the Discovery of the Gunpowder Plot.
There was a good turnout for this event, and the exhibition itself proved to be most fascinating, being constructed in a very novel "who done it"-style police investigation format.
After the trip to the exhibition those taking part adjourned to a near-by hostelry, where they were joined by a number of other Springbok Club members for further convivial and fruitful discussions.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB EVENTS
The Springbok Club will be making a trip to the National Maritime Museum in Greenwich in order to visit a special exhibition which they are staging to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar in July. The details are as follows:-
Date: Saturday 30th July 2005
Assembly time: 12.45 hrs to 13.15 hrs
Assembly place: Outside the main entrance to the exhibition at the National Maritime Museum (this is situated between King William Walk, Romney Road and Park Row in Greenwich, London SE10, and is only 5 minutes walk from the Cutty Sark Station on the Docklands Light Railway.)
Admission charges to the special exhibition are £9.00 for adults, £6.00 for concessions and £4.00 for children, which of course should be paid directly to the museum on the day. If a party of a certain size can be organised then a 20% discount is available, so if you intend attending please let us know as soon as possible by e-mailing: springbok@falklands.org. [N.B. Although the official title of this special exhibition is "Nelson & Napoleon" - we, for obvious reasons, prefer to call it the "Nelson & Trafalgar" exhibition!].
Towards the end of August the Springbok Club will be staging a special meeting to be addressed by a serving member of the British forces who has recently seen active service in the War against Terrorism in Iraq. More precise details will be given in next month's edition of the SCN.
In October the Springbok Club will be organising a delegation to visit Gibraltar in order to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. It is planned to stage a wreath-laying ceremony at the Trafalgar Cemetery during the day of Friday 21st October, to be followed by two events being organised by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust - a Trafalgar Day Dinner during the evening of Friday 21st October and a trip to Cape Trafalgar on Saturday 22nd October. Evidently hotel places on the Rock for this period and vacancies for the two events being staged by the Gibraltar Heritage Trust are filling up fast, so it is therefore suggested that all those who wish to join this visit should make arrangements as soon as possible. LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The London Swinton Circle held a most interesting meeting last month which was addressed by Mr. Sammy Wilson MP, MLA, the newly-elected DUP MP for East Antrim. In spite of the last-minute notification of this meeting there was still a very good attendance, and Mr. Wilson certainly didn't disappoint, giving a most informative overview of the current situation in Ulster following the dramatic breakthroughs made by the DUP at the recent general election.

The LSC will be holding their annual summer buffet in September whereat Mr. Simon Heffer, the renowned journalist, will be the guest of honour. Fuller details will be given in future editions of the SCN.

NEW BRITAIN NEWS
New Britain staged a most successful celebration last month in order to commemorate Canada Day 2005. A procession took place from St. Paul's Cathedral to St. Catherine Cree Church in Leadenhall Street, led by the Canadian flag and including many standard-bearers from the Royal British Legion. At St. Catherine Cree Church a short service took place at which Canadian poems were read and a special choir sang. Afterwards a garden party was held in an adjacent garden, where strawberries and cream were enjoyed by all.
Arrangements for New Britain's annual Australia Day celebrations for next year are already well in place, and will be held on 28th January 2006.

BONFIRE BEACONS
During Trafalgar Weekend, 21st/23rd October, a national chain of beacons is being planned to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar. The beacons will be lit on Friday 21 October, focusing on the National Beacon at HMS Victory at Portsmouth. We don't know at this stage how many beacons are being planned, but there will be a huge one at Firle in Sussex.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?
No.80: Mr. MICHIEL FALCK of Durban.
Michiel Falck was an administrative and organisational genius. Although originally from the Transvaal he lived most of his life in the Sherwood district of Durban, and held the position of Head Administrator at the University of Durban/Westville. He was a keen and dedicated member of the HNP, but his political activity didn't end there. He was the leading-light in the Sherwood Action Group (which successfully campaigned to keep the suburb of Sherwood White during the 1970s) and of the original White Rhino Club, and was also the de facto deputy editor of "S.A.Patriot". After he retired from the University of Durban/Westville he took on the position as the HNP's regional agent for southern Natal, but shortly after this defected to the Conservative Party of S.A. where he also held high rank - a move which alas caused great misgivings among many of his former colleagues. He was a man who couldn't suffer fools easily, and indeed had a very bad failing when it came to personal relationships - a fault which even he readily acknowledged! Alas nothing has been heard from him since 1990 so we therefore fear the worst, but even so would be very keen to learn what became of him.

BUILDING COLLAPSE
Sir,
A prominent building firm in Cape Town is about to bite the dust as a result of Black 'verneukery'.
The contract was for several million, but shortly after the tenders had been opened the successful tenderer (White) was told that he had to go into partnership with a second (Black) builder, as well as form an association with COSATU, the Black trade union body, as there were two hundred Blacks on his staff. The White builder began to have his doubts, but decided to sign the contract. In due course a certificate was prepared for two million Rand. This was awarded, not to the White builder but to the Black. The latter saw no necessity to notify his White colleague thereof, but paid the entire amount into his own bank account instead of that of the White builder, who had of course single-handedly financed the undertaking. But when the White builder advised the PWD that he now had no option but to go into liquidation, he was immediately told he could not do this without the consent of his "partner" and the Trades Union Congress! Such consent was not of course forthcoming. He has given the Public Works Department notice that he is now winding up his business. He was told that he could not do this either, but of course he has no alternative.
This is one of the inevitable results of Mr. Macmillan’s 'Winds of Change' speech. He cheerfully consigned South African Whites to wholesale victimisation in order to preserve his "democratic" image. A large amount of the blame must also be laid at the doors of those Whites who put the interests of the Blacks before that of their own White fellow countrymen.

Furthermore it seems that he has also launched his own publication called "Heritage & Destiny". Now of course "Heritage & Destiny" was the name of an excellent British patriotic magazine which we marketed through Patriotic Press in South Africa during the 1980s. We wonder therefore whether those behind the original "Heritage & Destiny" are aware that their name has been stolen?
Be this as it may, we would like to emphasise that the SCN has absolutely no connection whatsoever neither to this upstart “Heritage & Destiny”, nor to any other facet of Cotterill's little organisation. As Alice said in "Alice in Wonderland" - curiouser and curiouser ....
