Like all other people with any shred of common decency, we heard the news that a statue of the evil terrorist leader 'Nelson' Mandela was being erected in Parliament Square, London, with outrage and astonishment.
In order to express the feelings of all decent citizens - both British and expatriate South African - regarding this offensive development the Springbok Club circulated the following letter to a number of national newspapers, though unfortunately none of them seem to have published it (such alas appears to be the continuing persuasive influence of 'political correctness') :-
"Dear Sir,
"It was with great anger and disbelief that we read of the unveiling of a statue of Nelson Mandela in Parliament Square.
"Mandela was convicted of terrorist offences in South Africa in 1964 and sentenced to life imprisonment. At a time when the western world is engaged in a War against Terror, and British, American and other Western troops are being killed daily in the fight against international terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan, it is highly offensive in the extreme that a statue 'honouring' this terrorist leader should be erected in London. Mandela's ANC has been responsible for the murder of thousands of innocent people of all races both prior to and after being handed power in South Africa - over 2100 innocents have been slaughtered in terrorist-type attacks on South African farms alone since the ANC regime gained control of the country in 1994.
"We therefore call for the immediate removal of this offensive statue, and for its replacement by a memorial honouring the victims of international terrorism and those who risk their lives combating this evil.

It was significant in this regard that Britain's new Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, saw fit to praise and 'honour' the convicted terrorist Mandela personally. How utterly hypocritical therefore that just a few weeks later Brown should lambaste Mandela's brother southern African terrorist leader Robert Mugabe and to state that he would refuse to attend an international conference in Lisbon if Mugabe was present. Mandela and Mugabe are of course like two peas in a pod. They both only gained power by means of terror and violent intimidation, and once they obtained control of their respective countries they both presided over descents into primeval savagery and lawlessness. To praise Mandela but to condemn Mugabe, as Brown has done, is rather like saying that Ronnie Kray was a jolly good fellow but that Reggie Kray was an evil rogue.
Our condemnation of both Mandela and Mugabe has nothing to do with the colour of their skin. Our revulsion towards White terrorists such as Adams and McGuinness is just as strong.
With the growing rejection of 'political correctness' around the Western world we believe that it won't be too long before this hideous statue to the terrorist Mandela is dismantled - and hope that the resulting scrap metal may be put to far better use in the manufacture of weapons to fight against the curse of international terrorism!

Mr. Delderfield is the National Chairman of New Britain, and editor of the New Britain magazine. He was for 18 years a Common Councilman of the City of London, and is editor of The City of London & Dockland Times, the City of London's "local paper". He is a tireless and highly respected patriotic activist, and among other events which he has organised this year have been activities to celebrate Australia, New Zealand and Canada Days, the first annual Goldsmith Lecture (in memory of Sir James Goldsmith) addressed by Lord Tebbit, and a challenge bowls match on Plymouth Hoe with the Lord Mayor of Plymouth on the anniversary of Sir Francis Drake's famous victory over the Spanish Armada. As well as talking about the importance of the Commonwealth as a viable and far preferable alternative to the EU, Mr. Delderfield will also be reporting on the successes of the New Britain activities staged so far this year, as well as plans and details regarding their forthcoming events.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC EVENTS
Towards the end of October the Springbok Club/ELC will again be joining forces with the London Swinton Circle under the Patriotic Forum banner in order to welcome Prof. David Marsland as guest speaker. Fuller details of this meeting will be given in next month's SCN.
During the autumn the Kent Branch of the SC/ELC will be staging an informal pub get-together in north Kent. Again further details will be given in next month's SCN.
In November the Springbok Club will be staging their annual UDI Day celebration buffet, at which it is hoped to welcome a direct descendant of one of the most prominent original Rhodesian pioneers as guest of honour.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
On Tuesday 9th October the London Swinton Circle will be holding a meeting to be addressed by Mr. Tim Akers, the Grassroots Co-ordinator of the Taxpayers' Alliance. This meeting will take place at the Counting House, 50 Cornhill, London EC3, commencing at 19.00 hrs.
On Friday 9th November 2007 the London Swinton Circle will be staging a meeting to be addressed by Mr. Roger Helmer MEP (Conservative, East Midlands). Further details will be given in next month's SCN.

NEW BRITAIN NEWS
New Britain will shortly be staging a special pro-Gibraltar meeting to be addressed by Mr. Albert Poggio MBE, the official UK Representative of the Government of Gibraltar, details of which are as follows :-

On Friday 19th October New Britain will be laying a wreath on the tomb of Horatio Nelson in the crypt of St.Paul's Cathedral at the official Royal Navy ceremony. The public are admitted to this ceremony, which will take place at 11.30 hrs. On Saturday 20th October New Britain will be holding a Trafalgar Lunch at the historic Northe Fort in Weymouth, Dorset, commencing at 13.00 hrs. Councillor David Harris, the Mayor of Weymouth, will attend this event, and the cost will be £15.00 per head.
New Britain will also be staging a special Trafalgar Lunch to celebrate the 202nd anniversary of victory at the Battle of Trafalgar, details of which are as follows :-

ZIMBABWE CONSERVATION TASK FORCE REPORT
Since 2001 we have been collecting information from private game ranches around Zimbabwe. The information we have been endeavouring to obtain from individual game farms is:-
Wildlife populations prior to the land invasions, broken down into species.
Number of animals killed during land invasions, broken down into species.
Last known populations.
Number of snares recovered.
Length of fencing stolen.
Of the 62 farms studied, 59 reported wildlife losses of 42,236.
33 of the 62 farms reported removing a total of 155,204 snares.
8 of the 62 farms reported a total of 931km of fencing stolen to make wire snares.
This is not to say that the other farms didn't find snares or have any fencing stolen. All of them reported finding snares and having fencing stolen but many of them didn't keep records.
In order to estimate the percentage of wildlife lost on private game ranches, we chose 17 of the 62 farms studied. We chose the farms that had kept proper records and supplied us with the most up to date statistics. In the cases where the last information received was in 2002 or 2003, we used the statistics only when most of the wildlife had been wiped out by then because if we had been able to obtain more recent figures, they would have been much the same at best. We based the estimations on the fact that we believe there were 620 private game farms prior to the land invasions and according to our records, there are only 14 left today.
The total population of wildlife on the 17 farms prior to the land invasions was 16,772, an average of 986 animals per farm. If this figure is extrapolated out to 620 farms, we estimate that there were 611,320 animals on private game ranches prior to the land reform.
The total number of animals lost on the 17 farms between 2000 and 2007 was 15,704, an average of 923 animals per farm. If there are only 14 game farms left, it can reasonably be assumed that the 606 game farms that were confiscated suffered heavy losses. If the average loss figure is extrapolated out to 606 farms, we estimate that the total losses amount to 559,338 animals. This is a loss of 91% on private game ranches only.
We took conservancies separately, over and above the private game ranches. According to our records, there were 15 conservancies prior to the land reform and now, the only one left of any consequence is Save Valley Conservancy.
We obtained the following information regarding wildlife losses on conservancies:-
Debshan Estates had 17,394 animals in 2002. By Dec. 2002, they had lost 8955, a percentage of 51. We have had no figures from them since 2002.
Gourlays Ranch had 6348 animals in 2000 and by Dec. 2006, they had lost 6050, a percentage of 95. Amongst the animals slaughtered were 24 black rhino.
Gwaai Valley Conservancy reported a loss of 80% of their wildlife by June 2002.
Chipizi Ranch reported 100% loss by 2003.
Bembezi Safaris reported 100% loss.
Save Conservancy had 13,370 animals in 2000 and by June 2002, they had lost 4718, a percentage of 35.
In the absence of further information, we based our estimates on these 6 conservancies. The average percentage of animals lost is 76.
The average percentage of wildlife lost on the private game ranches and conservancies together is therefore estimated to be 83.
We have not been able to obtain figures on animals lost in National Parks so if we conservatively estimate that only 10% has been lost, this brings the loss over the whole country to 59%. In view of the fact that since the collapse of the economy, National Parks has not been in a position to carry out anti-poaching patrols effectively, we don't believe that 10% is an unreasonable estimation.
Although the wildlife is still fairly abundant in Hwange National Park and Mana Pools, we receive regular reports from tourists that they are very lucky to spot any game in Gonarezhou and Chisarira.
We are not claiming to "know" how much wildlife has been lost. We have just tried to make the most accurate estimate possible with very limited data to work with. If anyone has reason to believe we have overestimated the losses, we would be very grateful for further information so we can update or correct our records.

INTERESTING COMMENTS FROM CLIFF SAUNDERS
Many readers will undoubtedly remember Cliff Saunders, the leading SABC news presenter from the 1980s. Although not without his detractors, Saunders conducted a remarkable interview with PW Botha shortly before his death, which sinisterly SABC reneged from broadcasting. We carry below extracts from a most revealing letter which Saunders recently wrote to "The Star" newspaper of Johannesburg:-

"Your Editorial: 'It's time to own up, FW' refers.
"Your demand that FW de Klerk should now accept 'responsibility for his role' in perpetuating what you call 'this country's Dark Ages' is silly, if not ridiculous. Should the joint holder of the Nobel Peace Prize now suddenly come to the fore and admit to bearing responsible for the atrocities of the apartheid era it's logical that he should also condemn the presentation of the Peace Prize to him as a 'mistake and a farce' and distance himself from the event. He will not! After all to have a 'perpetrator of atrocities' holding such a prestigious Prize would be to disgrace the entire idea behind Nobel's initiative and ruin FW's carefully nurtured image.
"Rather I would prefer hearing FW de Klerk and the likes of Pik Botha apologising to the Whites of this country for the role they played in engineering a switch-over of government whereby the new ANC government rapidly replaced 'racist apartheid' benefiting the Whites with 'racist affirmative action' benefiting the Blacks. We were promised a non-racist society!
"As for the reference to PW Botha as a 'lost cause, a dinosaur coddled in senility' - such a remark can come only from a person who has not seen the last interviews with PW Botha which are now out in the public domain (under copyright!) via DVD and VHS recordings. 'Senile' PW was not! Would SABC have offered R200,000 for the English interview alone had they regarded him as a 'senile dinosaur' incapable of coherent thought and speech?
"PW Botha displayed remarkable clarity of mind and memory and analysis during his two-hour-long interviews in English and Afrikaans - and it is that which the ANC wishes to keep from the public domain.

Sir,
You have probably heard about the strike goings on here? Not good, but a 6.5% increment is ridiculous and 12% is too high to meet. We are living in frightening times with this sort of threat and with the increase in crime - didn't know it could get worse. This Saturday we are actually joining a "March for Peace". We have been asked to wear black, and if you have been effected by crime to wear flowers, or something on your sleeve to show in what way you were effected. The latest modus operandi by thieves is to rob and attack people in restaurants. A week ago 7 Blacks went into the St.Tropez restaurant, assaulted and robbed the staff, then onto the customers. They went upstairs to continue the raid and apparently there was a sound of breaking glass from downstairs, so the robbers starting shooting. Someone had just arrived to celebrate a double 30th birthday with a large table of family and friends, but was shot dead while walking up the stairs, and two others received serious wounds. Since then there have been a couple more restaurant robberies with patrons held up. We have had shops hit in malls etc, and it happens a lot in the Johannesburg area I understand. It's extremely worrying. Truthfully, this place is fast approaching Zimbabwe status - I just want to GO.

I recently read information regarding the disgusting waste of £400,000 on a 9 foot statue to Nelson Mandela. When Britons are "existing on fresh air" it is disgusting to have a statue in Parliament Square to a man who was convicted of terrorism - why not one to Pol Pot as well? Let £400,000 be spent on British people who need it, and not statues to Nelson Mandela. Let the politicians behind it just resign.

ROGUES GALLERY
The following report appeared on the BBC News web-site of 17th August :-
"An MEP for South-East England has been convicted of 21 charges of fraud. Ashley Mote, 71, had started claiming income support and benefits after his business collapsed. But Portsmouth Crown Court heard he had failed to notify the authorities when he began earning money again and had received thousands in benefits. The father of two was elected in 2004 as a member of UKIP which threw him out when they discovered the charges. He then served as an independent MEP. Mote was found guilty of eight charges of false accounting, eight of obtaining a money transfer by deception, four of evading liability and one of failing to notify a change of circumstances. The four-week trial heard Mote ran a successful business which collapsed during the exchange rate mechanism crisis on Black Wednesday in 1992. He then began to claim income support, housing benefits and council tax benefits but failed to notify the benefits agency when he began earning money through various enterprises including spread betting on currency markets. Yet between February 1996 and September 2002 he received £73,000 in benefits. The court heard he used this money to pay off credit card debts which he had run up funding an 'extravagant lifestyle' such as restaurant dinners, private health care and holidays to the US, France and the Caribbean. Responding to the verdict, UKIP leader Nigel Farage said in a statement 'We are pleased that finally justice has been done. Mr Mote lied to UKIP on his application form to be an MEP candidate. If we had discovered just 48 hours earlier that this case was pending he would never have been elected an MEP. Subsequent to our discovering the truth Mr Mote was immediately removed from the party and never took his seat as a UKIP MEP. UKIP and the voters of the south-east have been defrauded for three years by Mr Mote'. A UKIP spokeswoman said the party would be contacting the European Parliament on Monday to clarify whether Mote now faces an automatic ban as an MEP after being found guilty of a criminal offence. She said 'We want him disqualified as an MEP'."
Mr. Mote has in the past spoken at London Swinton Circle meetings, though on the most recent occasion this met with the extreme displeasure of several LSC members who were also UKIP members, who were incensed by the fact that, although elected to the EU Parliament on a UKIP ticket, he had subsequently been stripped of the UKIP whip once it was discovered that he hadn't revealed the truth about his forthcoming criminal prosecution, and yet had refused to do the honourable thing by resigning his seat so that another authentic UKIP candidate could take his place. Furthermore, it seems as if Mr. Mote had been using certain provisions of the EU - which he claims to be totally opposed to - in order to safeguard his own position in the EU Parliament and to attempt to escape from prosecution.
Following the withdrawal of the UKIP whip Mr.Mote joined the "Identity, Tradition, Sovereignty" group in the EU Parliament (widely perceived to be neo-fascist in outlook), and rumours persist that he has sought nomination from the neo-fascist so-called "British National Party" (BNP) for the next EU elections. It is also interesting to note that although Mr.Mote has been happy to speak on LSC platforms in the past he has also apparently enjoyed close relations with the so-called "Conservative Democratic Alliance", an obscure outfit which for long has been waging an irrational and inexplicable hate campaign against certain leading officials of the LSC on their web-site discussion forum (see SCNs passim).
Needless to say, Mr.Mote is highly unlikely ever to be invited to address the LSC again!
Meanwhile the September 2007 edition of the anti-fascist journal "Searchlight" revealed that young Mr.Arthur Kemp - who is believed to be in close contact with the so-called CDA outfit (see "The Plot Thickens", August 2007 SCN) - has been handed the BNP’s "Excalibur merchandise outlet" (whatever that might be) and put in charge of their ideological training of 'voting members' (whoever they might be!) as part of a plan to build a new elite within the party loyal to the present leadership of a certain Mr.Nick Griffin. All we can say is that from what we know about Mr.Kemp and what we have heard about Mr.Griffin they are welcome to each other!
Finally, in the "Rogues Gallery" column of the March 2007 edition of the SCN we revealed how the American-based publication "Juluka", which claimed to be a magazine for the expatriate South African community, was in actual fact nothing more than a toadying rag for the ANC terrorist regime. Subsequent to this we have received a circular from this "Juluka" outfit in which they openly advertise the so-called "Home-Coming Revolution", which is widely believed to be merely a front for the ANC regime's pathetic attempts to persuade Whites to return to the murder and mayhem which is the "new" South Africa! Surely something to be avoided like the plague!

OBITUARY
VICE-ADMIRAL SIR IAN McGEOCH
It was with much sadness that we learnt of the recent death of Vice-Admiral Sir Ian McGeoch, aged 93. Sir Ian enjoyed a distinguished career in the submarine service of the Royal Navy during WWII, gaining the DSO for his exploits when as commander of HMS Splendid he sank two enemy destroyers and two enemy anti-submarine vessels. Although subsequently captured by the Germans his subsequent escapes became the stuff which legends are based upon. He continued his RN service after he conclusion of WWII, rising to the rank of Vice Admiral. After retirement he pursued an academic career but retained a strong interest in all things nautical, becoming editor of "The Naval Review". He was also a strong "Empire man", and expressed great support for the aims and objectives of the new Empire Loyalist Club - though alas his advanced age prevented him from any active involvement. Our sincerest condolences are extended to his wife Somers and the rest of his family.

During recent weeks we have received many positive comments about the popularity of the "De la Rey Song" in today's South Africa, and the inspiration which it is evidently bringing to so many beleaguered Whites still trapped inside that fallen country. This mesmerising song by Bok van Blerk, which can easily be accessed via YouTube etc, has furthermore become an iconic rallying-call for the internal South African resistance movement - both among Afrikaners and British South Africans. Even so, however, there was unexpected glee when the editor of the SCN was greeted with a recording of the "De la Rey Song" when he 'phoned a company in Randfontein on personal business a few weeks ago!
General Jacobus de la Rey, "The Lion of the West", is perhaps an ideal figure to act as an icon for all South African Whites in their resistance struggle against the present suppression by the ANC-terrorist regime. Although a leading and accomplished Boer commander during the fratricidal Anglo-Boer War, de la Rey was not a "bitter-ender", and supported Louis Botha and Jan Smuts in their subsequent quest for White unity and the establishment of the Union of South Africa. If this song written in his memory can help inspire today's South Africans to rise up against the evils of the ANC regime which currently confront them, then perhaps General de la Rey's greatest achievement will take place almost 100 years after his death.
As we have observed and often stated ever since de Klerk's treasonable "Black Tuesday" speech of 1990 however, the South African struggle is NOT going to be won internally (or certainly not by internal resistance alone). This has been the thinking of so many South African patriotic activists who have relocated to Britain and elsewhere in the Western World over the past 17 despondent years, who have realised that just like our ANC enemies during previous decades the main battleground to win back our country will be "in exile". The resistance movement "in exile" is already in place, with the Springbok Club being its main instrument of operation. The potential is certainly present "in exile", and the manpower is definitely in place - all that is lacking are the necessary financial resources. Let us hope therefore that the "De la Rey Song" will not only prove to be an inspiration for those who have no alternative other than to fight the internal battle, but also to those who are able and capable of assisting the main front of the struggle externally.

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S RHODES & FOUNDERS CELEBRATION GATHERING
The Springbok Club was most honoured to be able to welcome Mr. Albert Weidemann, the hard-working and persistent Zimbabwe human rights activist, as guest speaker for this year's Rhodes & Founders Celebration buffet. In a wide-ranging speech entitled "Zimbabwe - the forgotten land, the forgotten people", Mr. Weidemann detailed the true horrific state of affairs - many of them harrowing in the extreme - which exists in Mugabe's Zimbabwe, and furthermore castigated those with influence who have refused to take any effective action to relieve the suffering of that decaying land. It was most encouraging to see quite a number of new faces at this gathering, which was further enhanced by musical entertainment provided by Mr. Robin Willow, who inter alia sang his composition "One Man All Alone" about the lone protestor who stood defiantly in front of the PLA tanks in Tiananmen Square during 1989 - an incident which has great resonance when compared to the situation in today's Zimbabwe.

The London Branch of the Springbok Club/ELC will be holding an informal social get-together early next month, the details of which are as follows :-

Venue : The Founders Arms, Hopton Street (NOT Hopton Road), Southwark (on the south bank of the Thames immediately to the west of the Millennium Bridge and the Tate Modern art gallery - nearest tube station for the Millennium Bridge: Mansion House).
An inside table has been reserved for this event, but if the weather is fine the gathering will take place in the outside area alongside the Thames. A warm welcome is extended to all members, supporters and friends to join the London Branch for this convivial event.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The London Swinton Circle has an exciting series of meetings planned for the autumn, including a one to be addressed by Mr. Nick Seaton of the Campaign for Real Education and another by Mr. Roger Helmer MEP (Conservative, East Midlands). Full details will be given in next month's SCN.
Membership of the London Swinton Circle is open to all those who support Conservative and Unionist principles, which includes those who are members of not only the Conservative Party and the various Unionist parties of Northern Ireland, but also members of other democratic patriotic parties such as UKIP and New Britain. Membership of extremist parties on either wing of the political spectrum is however incompatible with membership of the London Swinton Circle.

NEW BRITAIN NEWS
New Britain held a very successful event on Saturday 28 July to remind people of the freedom for which men and women have died in the past. Councillor David James, the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, had been challenged to a game of bowls on Plymouth Hoe by Dennis Delderfield, National Chairman of New Britain (Sir Francis Drake was playing bowls on Plymouth Hoe when he heard the news that the Spanish Armada which threatened to conquer the country and take away its freedom had been sighted, and famously observed "We have time to finish this game and defeat the Spaniards too!". The Lord Mayor was very supportive of this event and a crowd watched as he and Mr. Delderfield played their game of bowls, which resulted in a draw. This game was followed by a match between two leading bowls teams from Devon, which included David Cutler, the former England international and English Singles Champion. Plymouth Sea Cadets paraded the St.George's flag of England (the Spanish Armada was defeated prior to the Union of the English and Scottish crowns and flag) and Mr. Brian Whipp, dressed as Sir Francis Drake, added a colourful touch to the proceedings. Toasts to "Freedom" were then drunk in Devon wine, and Mr. Delderfield gave a rousing speech about the freedom which had been won in the past by Drake and Nelson and their crews and those who fought and won the Battle of Britain in 1940, but warned that freedom was nowadays in danger from the EU which wants to control the nation. Proceedings ended with a procession to the statue of Sir Francis Drake on Plymouth Hoe, where a wreath was laid and the National Anthem sung.
New Britain will shortly be staging a special pro-Gibraltar meeting to be addressed by Mr. Albert Poggio MBE, the official UK Representative of the Government of Gibraltar, details of which are as follows :-

Venue : St.Catherine Cree Hall, Leadenhall Street, London EC3 (nearest tube stations: Bank and Aldgate).
On Friday 19th October New Britain will be laying a wreath on the tomb of Horatio Nelson in the crypt of St.Paul's Cathedral at the official Royal Navy ceremony. The public are admitted to this ceremony, which will take place at 11.30 hrs. On Saturday 20th October New Britain will be holding a Trafalgar Lunch at the historic Northe Fort in Weymouth, Dorset, commencing at 13.00 hrs. Councillor David Harris, the Mayor of Weymouth, will attend this event, and the cost will be £15.00 per head. REPORT FROM SEAL-ALERT S.A.
With less than 30 days to go to the start of Namibia's 2007 annual baby seal cull, the second largest Seal Slaughter in the world, Seal Alert-SA raises some serious questions that need answering by the Namibian Fisheries Ministry.
Unlike the commercial seal hunt in Canada, the Cape Fur Seal population has always been culled and not hunted. There is no fair chase, instead baby seals are rounded up on Namibia's beaches with their nursing cow mothers and clubbed to death. "Cull" is a term conservation managers use in relation to the control of a wild animal populations. Scientifically therefore it should have no basis for a commercial sealing industry. Furthermore, numbering less than 1/5th of the Canadian seal population, the Cape Fur Seal population can hardly be considered large (not even Canadian Fisheries uses that excuse for their hunt).
Considering that the domestic cat has become the largest predator of marine fish, would any civilised country allow their feral cat population to be rounded up and clubbed to death on their beaches or in public streets?
Although the Cape Fur Seal, the only species of seal found breeding on the whole African continent, was classified by the Convention In Trade of Endangered Species (CITES) as an endangered species since 1977, the southern African countries of South Africa and Namibia (the distribution range of this species) have instituted an annual 50% population reduction or cull of its new-born pups and adult bulls by the inhumane and internationally illegal practice of clubbing seals in their nursery habitats.
As far back as 1971, the US banned imports of Seal Products from South Africa and Namibia, as under the US Marine Mammal Protection Act regulations it is a crime to club or kill seal pups still nursing or suckling in their breeding habitats. Europe likewise banned baby seal imports in 1983, as did the remaining sealing countries (Canada, Greenland, Russia and Norway) who wrote into their sealing regulations the banning of clubbing "baby seals in nurseries". A Commission on Sealing enquiry held in 1990 in South Africa, where 11 top marine scientists recommended that Cape Fur Seals be managed by both countries (Namibia and South Africa) as one population under one management policy, lead to South Africa ending its commercial seal culling policy in 1990.
The world had hoped this practice of clubbing nursing baby seals had ended worldwide. Through a loop-hole in European legislation imports of baby Cape Fur Seal products had been omitted, primarily due to the fact that most European legislators had never heard of Cape Fur Seals or the culling policies in southern Africa. A Namibian fisheries official (Dr. B.J. van Zyl) has stated that upon Namibia's independence in 1990 "when the current concessionaires became involved in sealing", the industry was non-existent. No market existed for any of the raw product, other than male genitals.
Last year the group CEO Stephen Lussier of De Beers Diamonds (the largest contributor to Namibia's GDP) wrote to Seal Alert-SA stating, "De Beers does not support any seal culling activities, and like you I cannot help but be moved by the images you have seen". Shortly thereafter Germany became the third country to ban imports of specifically Cape Fur Seal products - one of the largest tourism countries to Namibia.
In response Namibia's Fishery Minister Abraham Iyambo replied, "If Culling seals is a problem, the solution is to eat them".
Seal Alert-SA has just received confirmation that the fourth largest tourism country to Namibia, the Netherlands, will be implementing a Cape Fur Seal product import ban within the coming weeks.

Geoff Wallis held a doctorate in music, and was a keen and active member of both the Durban Parliamentary Debating Society and the Patriotic Forum in Natal during the late 1980s. He remained in very good written contact with our movement after we were forced into exile in 1990, and indeed we were helping him to publish a novel which he had written in the UK. Alas, however, all communications with him ceased abruptly about a couple of years ago before his book publishing venture could come to fruition, and all subsequent efforts to re-contact him have met with failure. ZIMBABWE AS IT REALLY IS
Sir,
The situation is becoming untenable here, with no power, no water and the rising inflation. It is such a shame that we live in a country where we are more scared of the police than the criminal element. The other day they (the police) were stopping motorists and asking them to produce their driving licences (mainly White) and if they could not produce it they were told they had to drive a policeman to the police station, and when he got into the car he said to the driver that if he gave him Z$150,000.00 he would let him/her go. This is how they subsidise their income, nice isn't it.

SOUTH AFRICA AS IT REALLY IS
Sir,
You know, I came back to South Africa just 2 months ago, I was home sick and missed everything South African! But there is no other reality, Africa is lost, there is no future here for a White face! We might be able to stay here for 10 more years, but after that you would be stupid to stay! No-one wants to leave a country as beautiful and diverse as this one, but what good is the beauty if you're dead? - or raped, or high-jacked?
I don't want to start a family in a place where your baby might get raped by 5 men with AIDS who are ignorant enough to think it will cure them. I don't want to live behind burglar bars and electric fencing and still know I am not safe.
Last year in April I came home for a short visit; all the security guards where on strike, I got stuck in a riot where 6000 men where running down the street with sticks and pangas, burning cars that got in their way. Who do you call? It's the security guards that are on strike!
Right now everyone except the private sector is on strike, the teachers the police, everyone. How does an economy stay on track if no-one will work? When people do decide to go to work, we have power breaks - on the coldest night in 52 years we had no electricity!
Let's face it, there is no future here! Not in Africa. The sooner you can face the facts the better it is!

THE PLOT THICKENS
When we first read Mike Turner's theory (see letter "Axis of Evil" above) that Arthur Kemp and Francis Andrew (two trouble-makers who have caused us considerable problems in the past) might be connected we rejected the idea out of hand. Kemp, after all, is a Rhodesian-born South African who was a close colleague when our movement was still based in South Africa during the 1980's, but who alas turned traitor against us during the mid-1990's, when it was revealed by the "Mail & Guardian" that he was working for the "new" South African security services (see April 2000 SCN). Andrew, on the other hand, is an Aberdeen-born Arabist with apparently no South African connections whatsoever, who has spent the past 20 or so years living in Arab lands (first the Sudan, then Saudi Arabia and now Jordan) where he has earned a living by teaching Arab boys to speak English, and who judging from his outspoken opposition to the West's War against Terror in Iraq now identifies himself far more with the lands of his residence rather than with the land of his birth.
More recent revelations, however, have suggested that there could well be a connection between these two enemies of our movement. Most readers will probably remember that we were threatened with legal action by Mr. Mike Smith (aka Michael Keith-Smith) following criticisms of him and his "Conservative Democratic Alliance" outfit which were made in the June 2006 edition of the SCN, which were the result of an earlier vile, offensive and irrational smear campaign which had been waged against us on the CDA discussion forum by both Mr. Smith and the aforementioned Mr. Andrew. Although Mr. Smith now appears to have backed-down from his original threat to sue us, we are still keeping our options open regarding whether to counter-sue both him and Mr. Andrew for the original libellous comments which they made against us which initiated the whole dispute, so we therefore feel it best not to go into any further details about these two antagonistic individuals at this stage. Significantly, however, in a recent mischief-making letter to our lawyers Mr. Smith (who also has no apparent South African connections) quotes from an alleged former South African colleague of ours - who judging from the phraseology and the unsubstantiated smears and lies contained, is none other than Mr. Arthur Kemp!
So how are Smith and Kemp connected? A clue comes from an article in the July 2007 edition of the renowned anti-fascist magazine "Searchlight", which as well as confirming that Kemp "went on to pursue a career in the intelligence services of the new post-apartheid South Africa", also reveals that Kemp "is now living in England and is active in the [neo-fascist] BNP." Two of Smith's close CDA associates also turn out to be members of this odious party - Gregory Lauder-Frost (who was revealed as a BNP member by an expose in "The Guardian" towards the end of last year), and Mr. Sam Swerling, who makes no secret of his membership.
It would appear therefore that what we are seeing here is a pathetic little international network of trouble-makers stretching from the apparent ANC agent Kemp, through a clique of phoney-fascists in the UK, to the fanatical Arabist Andrew in Jordan. Perhaps not so surprising when it is remembered how the ANC-regime supported their fellow-terrorists from the Ba'athist regime during the West's War against Terror in Iraq, and how all three facets of this putrid little network have anti-Semitic connotations.

OBITUARY
BILL ANDREWS
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Bill Andrews, just a couple of months after the death of his dear wife Eileen. Bill Andrews was born in London in 1919, and served with distinction in the Royal Engineers during World War II. Immediately after WWII he emigrated to southern Africa however, living first in Durban, then moving to Port Elizabeth, before finally settling in Bulawayo, Rhodesia. He soon became a true and loyal Rhodesian, founding his own successful plumbing and sheet-metal working business in Bulawayo, before accepting a position as senior lecturer in plumbing and sheet-metal work at the Bulawayo Technical College. He loved fishing and the Rhodesian bush, and enjoyed many holidays travelling around the country on fishing expeditions. He was also a keen and active Freemason, and a leading member of the Sons of England, rising to become head of that esteemed organisation in Rhodesia. In 1983, following the fall of Rhodesia, Bill returned to the UK with his family and settled on the Isle of Sheppey. His commitment to the Rhodesian cause was still not finished however, as he became increasingly involved with the Rhodesians Worldwide organisation, becoming the Chairman of the Kent Branch of this movement and helping to build it into one of the most dynamic branches in the country. Bill Andrews was a great Rhodesian and a great man, and will be greatly missed. Our sincerest condolences are extended to his daughter Barbara, son-in-law Nigel, and the rest of his family.

August 2007 edition
During recent weeks we have received many positive comments about the popularity of the "De la Rey Song" in today's South Africa, and the inspiration which it is evidently bringing to so many beleaguered Whites still trapped inside that fallen country. This mesmerising song by Bok van Blerk, which can easily be accessed via YouTube etc, has furthermore become an iconic rallying-call for the internal South African resistance movement - both among Afrikaners and British South Africans. Even so, however, there was unexpected glee when the editor of the SCN was greeted with a recording of the "De la Rey Song" when he 'phoned a company in Randfontein on personal business a few weeks ago!
General Jacobus de la Rey, "The Lion of the West", is perhaps an ideal figure to act as an icon for all South African Whites in their resistance struggle against the present suppression by the ANC-terrorist regime. Although a leading and accomplished Boer commander during the fratricidal Anglo-Boer War, de la Rey was not a "bitter-ender", and supported Louis Botha and Jan Smuts in their subsequent quest for White unity and the establishment of the Union of South Africa. If this song written in his memory can help inspire today's South Africans to rise up against the evils of the ANC regime which currently confront them, then perhaps General de la Rey's greatest achievement will take place almost 100 years after his death.
As we have observed and often stated ever since de Klerk's treasonable "Black Tuesday" speech of 1990 however, the South African struggle is NOT going to be won internally (or certainly not by internal resistance alone). This has been the thinking of so many South African patriotic activists who have relocated to Britain and elsewhere in the Western World over the past 17 despondent years, who have realised that just like our ANC enemies during previous decades the main battleground to win back our country will be "in exile". The resistance movement "in exile" is already in place, with the Springbok Club being its main instrument of operation. The potential is certainly present "in exile", and the manpower is definitely in place - all that is lacking are the necessary financial resources. Let us hope therefore that the "De la Rey Song" will not only prove to be an inspiration for those who have no alternative other than to fight the internal battle, but also to those who are able and capable of assisting the main front of the struggle externally.

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S RHODES & FOUNDERS CELEBRATION GATHERING
The Springbok Club was most honoured to be able to welcome Mr. Albert Weidemann, the hard-working and persistent Zimbabwe human rights activist, as guest speaker for this year's Rhodes & Founders Celebration buffet. In a wide-ranging speech entitled "Zimbabwe - the forgotten land, the forgotten people", Mr. Weidemann detailed the true horrific state of affairs - many of them harrowing in the extreme - which exists in Mugabe's Zimbabwe, and furthermore castigated those with influence who have refused to take any effective action to relieve the suffering of that decaying land. It was most encouraging to see quite a number of new faces at this gathering, which was further enhanced by musical entertainment provided by Mr. Robin Willow, who inter alia sang his composition "One Man All Alone" about the lone protestor who stood defiantly in front of the PLA tanks in Tiananmen Square during 1989 - an incident which has great resonance when compared to the situation in today's Zimbabwe.

The London Branch of the Springbok Club/ELC will be holding an informal social get-together early next month, the details of which are as follows :-

Venue : The Founders Arms, Hopton Street (NOT Hopton Road), Southwark (on the south bank of the Thames immediately to the west of the Millennium Bridge and the Tate Modern art gallery - nearest tube station for the Millennium Bridge: Mansion House).
An inside table has been reserved for this event, but if the weather is fine the gathering will take place in the outside area alongside the Thames. A warm welcome is extended to all members, supporters and friends to join the London Branch for this convivial event.

In November the Springbok Club will be staging their annual UDI Day celebration buffet, at which it is hoped to welcome a direct descendant of one of the most prominent original Rhodesian pioneers as guest of honour.

The Patriotic Forum (an umbrella grouping of patriotic organisations including the SC/ELC and the London Swinton Circle) will be holding an important meeting to be addressed by Prof. David Marsland during October.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The London Swinton Circle has an exciting series of meetings planned for the autumn, including a one to be addressed by Mr. Nick Seaton of the Campaign for Real Education and another by Mr. Roger Helmer MEP (Conservative, East Midlands). Full details will be given in next month's SCN.
Membership of the London Swinton Circle is open to all those who support Conservative and Unionist principles, which includes those who are members of not only the Conservative Party and the various Unionist parties of Northern Ireland, but also members of other democratic patriotic parties such as UKIP and New Britain. Membership of extremist parties on either wing of the political spectrum is however incompatible with membership of the London Swinton Circle.

NEW BRITAIN NEWS
New Britain held a very successful event on Saturday 28 July to remind people of the freedom for which men and women have died in the past. Councillor David James, the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, had been challenged to a game of bowls on Plymouth Hoe by Dennis Delderfield, National Chairman of New Britain (Sir Francis Drake was playing bowls on Plymouth Hoe when he heard the news that the Spanish Armada which threatened to conquer the country and take away its freedom had been sighted, and famously observed "We have time to finish this game and defeat the Spaniards too!". The Lord Mayor was very supportive of this event and a crowd watched as he and Mr. Delderfield played their game of bowls, which resulted in a draw. This game was followed by a match between two leading bowls teams from Devon, which included David Cutler, the former England international and English Singles Champion. Plymouth Sea Cadets paraded the St.George's flag of England (the Spanish Armada was defeated prior to the Union of the English and Scottish crowns and flag) and Mr. Brian Whipp, dressed as Sir Francis Drake, added a colourful touch to the proceedings. Toasts to "Freedom" were then drunk in Devon wine, and Mr. Delderfield gave a rousing speech about the freedom which had been won in the past by Drake and Nelson and their crews and those who fought and won the Battle of Britain in 1940, but warned that freedom was nowadays in danger from the EU which wants to control the nation. Proceedings ended with a procession to the statue of Sir Francis Drake on Plymouth Hoe, where a wreath was laid and the National Anthem sung.
New Britain will shortly be staging a special pro-Gibraltar meeting to be addressed by Mr. Albert Poggio MBE, the official UK Representative of the Government of Gibraltar, details of which are as follows :-

On Friday 19th October New Britain will be laying a wreath on the tomb of Horatio Nelson in the crypt of St.Paul's Cathedral at the official Royal Navy ceremony. The public are admitted to this ceremony, which will take place at 11.30 hrs. On Saturday 20th October New Britain will be holding a Trafalgar Lunch at the historic Northe Fort in Weymouth, Dorset, commencing at 13.00 hrs. Councillor David Harris, the Mayor of Weymouth, will attend this event, and the cost will be £15.00 per head. As detailed above, New Britain will also be holding a special Trafalgar lunch in Greenwich on Sunday 21st October.

REPORT FROM SEAL-ALERT S.A.
With less than 30 days to go to the start of Namibia's 2007 annual baby seal cull, the second largest Seal Slaughter in the world, Seal Alert-SA raises some serious questions that need answering by the Namibian Fisheries Ministry.
Unlike the commercial seal hunt in Canada, the Cape Fur Seal population has always been culled and not hunted. There is no fair chase, instead baby seals are rounded up on Namibia's beaches with their nursing cow mothers and clubbed to death. "Cull" is a term conservation managers use in relation to the control of a wild animal populations. Scientifically therefore it should have no basis for a commercial sealing industry. Furthermore, numbering less than 1/5th of the Canadian seal population, the Cape Fur Seal population can hardly be considered large (not even Canadian Fisheries uses that excuse for their hunt).
Considering that the domestic cat has become the largest predator of marine fish, would any civilised country allow their feral cat population to be rounded up and clubbed to death on their beaches or in public streets?
Although the Cape Fur Seal, the only species of seal found breeding on the whole African continent, was classified by the Convention In Trade of Endangered Species (CITES) as an endangered species since 1977, the southern African countries of South Africa and Namibia (the distribution range of this species) have instituted an annual 50% population reduction or cull of its new-born pups and adult bulls by the inhumane and internationally illegal practice of clubbing seals in their nursery habitats.
As far back as 1971, the US banned imports of Seal Products from South Africa and Namibia, as under the US Marine Mammal Protection Act regulations it is a crime to club or kill seal pups still nursing or suckling in their breeding habitats. Europe likewise banned baby seal imports in 1983, as did the remaining sealing countries (Canada, Greenland, Russia and Norway) who wrote into their sealing regulations the banning of clubbing "baby seals in nurseries". A Commission on Sealing enquiry held in 1990 in South Africa, where 11 top marine scientists recommended that Cape Fur Seals be managed by both countries (Namibia and South Africa) as one population under one management policy, lead to South Africa ending its commercial seal culling policy in 1990.
The world had hoped this practice of clubbing nursing baby seals had ended worldwide. Through a loop-hole in European legislation imports of baby Cape Fur Seal products had been omitted, primarily due to the fact that most European legislators had never heard of Cape Fur Seals or the culling policies in southern Africa. A Namibian fisheries official (Dr. B.J. van Zyl) has stated that upon Namibia's independence in 1990 "when the current concessionaires became involved in sealing", the industry was non-existent. No market existed for any of the raw product, other than male genitals.
Last year the group CEO Stephen Lussier of De Beers Diamonds (the largest contributor to Namibia's GDP) wrote to Seal Alert-SA stating, "De Beers does not support any seal culling activities, and like you I cannot help but be moved by the images you have seen". Shortly thereafter Germany became the third country to ban imports of specifically Cape Fur Seal products - one of the largest tourism countries to Namibia.
In response Namibia's Fishery Minister Abraham Iyambo replied, "If Culling seals is a problem, the solution is to eat them".
Seal Alert-SA has just received confirmation that the fourth largest tourism country to Namibia, the Netherlands, will be implementing a Cape Fur Seal product import ban within the coming weeks.

No.105 : Dr. GEOFF WALLIS of Amanzimtoti.
Geoff Wallis held a doctorate in music, and was a keen and active member of both the Durban Parliamentary Debating Society and the Patriotic Forum in Natal during the late 1980s. He remained in very good written contact with our movement after we were forced into exile in 1990, and indeed we were helping him to publish a novel which he had written in the UK. Alas, however, all communications with him ceased abruptly about a couple of years ago before his book publishing venture could come to fruition, and all subsequent efforts to re-contact him have met with failure. We have therefore become increasingly concerned about what has happened to him, so would be very grateful if anyone could give us any news about him.

ZIMBABWE AS IT REALLY IS
Sir,
The situation is becoming untenable here, with no power, no water and the rising inflation. It is such a shame that we live in a country where we are more scared of the police than the criminal element. The other day they (the police) were stopping motorists and asking them to produce their driving licences (mainly White) and if they could not produce it they were told they had to drive a policeman to the police station, and when he got into the car he said to the driver that if he gave him Z$150,000.00 he would let him/her go. This is how they subsidise their income, nice isn't it.

SOUTH AFRICA AS IT REALLY IS
Sir,
You know, I came back to South Africa just 2 months ago, I was home sick and missed everything South African! But there is no other reality, Africa is lost, there is no future here for a White face! We might be able to stay here for 10 more years, but after that you would be stupid to stay! No-one wants to leave a country as beautiful and diverse as this one, but what good is the beauty if you're dead? - or raped, or high-jacked?
I don't want to start a family in a place where your baby might get raped by 5 men with AIDS who are ignorant enough to think it will cure them. I don't want to live behind burglar bars and electric fencing and still know I am not safe.
Last year in April I came home for a short visit; all the security guards where on strike, I got stuck in a riot where 6000 men where running down the street with sticks and pangas, burning cars that got in their way. Who do you call? It's the security guards that are on strike!
Right now everyone except the private sector is on strike, the teachers the police, everyone. How does an economy stay on track if no-one will work? When people do decide to go to work, we have power breaks - on the coldest night in 52 years we had no electricity!
Let's face it, there is no future here! Not in Africa. The sooner you can face the facts the better it is!

THE PLOT THICKENS
When we first read Mike Turner's theory (see letter "Axis of Evil" above) that Arthur Kemp and Francis Andrew (two trouble-makers who have caused us considerable problems in the past) might be connected we rejected the idea out of hand. Kemp, after all, is a Rhodesian-born South African who was a close colleague when our movement was still based in South Africa during the 1980's, but who alas turned traitor against us during the mid-1990's, when it was revealed by the "Mail & Guardian" that he was working for the "new" South African security services (see April 2000 SCN). Andrew, on the other hand, is an Aberdeen-born Arabist with apparently no South African connections whatsoever, who has spent the past 20 or so years living in Arab lands (first the Sudan, then Saudi Arabia and now Jordan) where he has earned a living by teaching Arab boys to speak English, and who judging from his outspoken opposition to the West's War against Terror in Iraq now identifies himself far more with the lands of his residence rather than with the land of his birth.
More recent revelations, however, have suggested that there could well be a connection between these two enemies of our movement. Most readers will probably remember that we were threatened with legal action by Mr. Mike Smith (aka Michael Keith-Smith) following criticisms of him and his "Conservative Democratic Alliance" outfit which were made in the June 2006 edition of the SCN, which were the result of an earlier vile, offensive and irrational smear campaign which had been waged against us on the CDA discussion forum by both Mr. Smith and the aforementioned Mr. Andrew. Although Mr. Smith now appears to have backed-down from his original threat to sue us, we are still keeping our options open regarding whether to counter-sue both him and Mr. Andrew for the original libellous comments which they made against us which initiated the whole dispute, so we therefore feel it best not to go into any further details about these two antagonistic individuals at this stage. Significantly, however, in a recent mischief-making letter to our lawyers Mr. Smith (who also has no apparent South African connections) quotes from an alleged former South African colleague of ours - who judging from the phraseology and the unsubstantiated smears and lies contained, is none other than Mr. Arthur Kemp!
So how are Smith and Kemp connected? A clue comes from an article in the July 2007 edition of the renowned anti-fascist magazine "Searchlight", which as well as confirming that Kemp "went on to pursue a career in the intelligence services of the new post-apartheid South Africa", also reveals that Kemp "is now living in England and is active in the [neo-fascist] BNP." Two of Smith's close CDA associates also turn out to be members of this odious party - Gregory Lauder-Frost (who was revealed as a BNP member by an expose in "The Guardian" towards the end of last year), and Mr. Sam Swerling, who makes no secret of his membership.
It would appear therefore that what we are seeing here is a pathetic little international network of trouble-makers stretching from the apparent ANC agent Kemp, through a clique of phoney-fascists in the UK, to the fanatical Arabist Andrew in Jordan. Perhaps not so surprising when it is remembered how the ANC-regime supported their fellow-terrorists from the Ba'athist regime during the West's War against Terror in Iraq, and how all three facets of this putrid little network have anti-Semitic connotations.

OBITUARY
BILL ANDREWS
It is with great sadness that we report the death of Bill Andrews, just a couple of months after the death of his dear wife Eileen. Bill Andrews was born in London in 1919, and served with distinction in the Royal Engineers during World War II. Immediately after WWII he emigrated to southern Africa however, living first in Durban, then moving to Port Elizabeth, before finally settling in Bulawayo, Rhodesia. He soon became a true and loyal Rhodesian, founding his own successful plumbing and sheet-metal working business in Bulawayo, before accepting a position as senior lecturer in plumbing and sheet-metal work at the Bulawayo Technical College. He loved fishing and the Rhodesian bush, and enjoyed many holidays travelling around the country on fishing expeditions. He was also a keen and active Freemason, and a leading member of the Sons of England, rising to become head of that esteemed organisation in Rhodesia. In 1983, following the fall of Rhodesia, Bill returned to the UK with his family and settled on the Isle of Sheppey. His commitment to the Rhodesian cause was still not finished however, as he became increasingly involved with the Rhodesians Worldwide organisation, becoming the Chairman of the Kent Branch of this movement and helping to build it into one of the most dynamic branches in the country. Bill Andrews was a great Rhodesian and a great man, and will be greatly missed. Our sincerest condolences are extended to his daughter Barbara, son-in-law Nigel, and the rest of his family.

By all accounts the guest speaker at this year's graduation ceremony at Queen's University Belfast was the South African primate Desmond Tutu, who evidently made some very ignorant comments in which he tried to compare recent developments in South Africa with those in Northern Ireland.
We do not intend to list all of the 1001 differences between the situations in these two most strategic parts of the globe, but one fundamental difference must be glowingly obvious to all but the primate Tutu. Whereas in South Africa the terrorist ANC have been totally victorious in their complete takeover of the country, and all manifestations of the previous White-ruled nation have been destroyed as a result, in Ulster the terrorist SF/IRA have completely failed to achieve their basic aims.
To be sure, there have been several recent developments in Northern Ireland which have been sickening in the extreme, such as the renaming and restructuring of the RUC and the presence of unreconstructed terrorists in government, but the fact remains that the prospect of a "United Ireland" is now probably further away than when SF/IRA resumed their terror campaign during the late 1960s - indeed it is probably true that the re-unification of the entire United Kingdom is now more likely than an independent united Ireland! The true flag of Northern Ireland still proudly flies across the province rather than the terrorist's flag (unlike in South Africa, where the terrorist government have banned open displays of the nation's real flag), the SF/IRA murder campaign has all but ceased (unlike the ongoing ANC-inspired murder campaign in the South African platteland), and all forms of Loyalist culture are flourishing (unlike in South Africa, where Afrikaner culture is being suppressed).
Hardliners on both sides of the political divide in Ulster have of course been vociferous in condemning the power-sharing government foisted upon the province by Blair's Labour government, but from the Unionist point-of-view the situation undoubtedly could have been far, far worse. SF/IRA have been forced to lay down their weapons and to recognise the Crown's forces of law and order in order to enter the power-sharing government. When one also considers that the First Minister at Stormont is not simply a Unionist but the non-compromising leader of the DUP, Dr. Ian Paisley, then it is quite obvious which side has come out on top.

SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC KENT BRANCH'S SUMMER GATHERING
Although last month's SC/ELC Kent Branch's summer gathering proved a happy and enjoyable occasion, the turnout alas was surprisingly low. As one member travelled all the way down from the Chilterns in order to attend it was therefore particularly disappointing that not more supporters from the county itself took the trouble to patronise this branch event. Current Branch Chairman Robert Shipley announced that because of pressures in his personal life, and his extra responsibilities as the SC/ELC Overseas Liaison Officer, he wished to step down from the Branch Chairmanship. Happily, however, it seems as if another branch member will be willing to takeover this position, so it is therefore hoped that the branch will be able to obtain more support at future such gatherings.

Albert Weidemann was born at Broken Hill in Northern Rhodesia, before moving to Bulawayo in Southern Rhodesia as a child during the early 1960s. He went to junior school in Bulawayo and senior school in the Rhodesian Midlands, before serving in the Rhodesian Army from 1977 to 1980.
Having moved to the UK, he became Deputy Chairman of the Manchester Branch of the MDC in 2000. He has campaigned vigorously outside the Zimbabwe High Commission in London with both Black and White colleagues, and has spoken out in debates and in both the local and international media exposing Mugabe's mass human rights abuses. He writes as follows:-
"History shall no doubt bear witness to Zimbabwe's illegal president, Robert Gabriel Mugabe's scorched earth policy that has escalated year on year over the last 27 years of his autocratic rule, along with his insistence to remain in power at all costs. Yet, Southern African Development Community (SADC) leaders and African Union (AU) leaders remain resolute, consistently failing to criticize or condemn Zimbabwe's actions. Why? With mass displacement of the vulnerable, the disadvantaged, the homeless, the sick and the poor taking place, and the eviction of Black farm workers who have lived and worked generation upon generation within the farming industry - persecuting, torturing and incarcerating any and all who question or oppose his draconian rule. Many the world over remain shell-shocked in listening to and watching Mugabe's hysterical rants and attempts at blaming not only the White commercial farmers but the international community at large for Zimbabwe's decline and the demise of it's once vibrant, self-sustaining and growing agricultural economy. In Zimbabwe's first decade they acquired 40% of land from Whites. In 1994 a land tenure commission recommended the best way to achieve distribution was through a land tax, implementing the "fast track" resettlement programme in July 2000. What happened to the land tax recommendations? We all know why his 'fast track' programme was implemented!!"

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC EVENTS

In November the Springbok Club will be staging their annual UDI Day celebration buffet, at which it is hoped to welcome a direct descendant of one of the most prominent original Rhodesian pioneers as guest of honour.

The Patriotic Forum (an umbrella grouping of patriotic organisations including the SC/ELC and the London Swinton Circle etc.) anticipates holding two events during October. The first will be a meeting to be addressed by Prof. David Marsland, and the second will be a function to celebrate the 202nd anniversary of victory at the Battle of Trafalgar. Again further details will be given in future editions of the SCN.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The London Swinton Circle held three separate meetings during early July.
The first was addressed by Mr. Philip Davies MP (Conservative, Shipley), a leading member of the "Better Off Out" group and owner of the racehorse Osolomio. This proved to be a most successful meeting, with Mr. Davies giving a highly enlightening speech in which he relayed current feelings within the Conservative caucus at Westminster, and overall gave a very optimistic view of possible future developments.
The second was the LSC's annual Summer Buffet at which the guest speaker will be Lord Willoughby de Broke, the UKIP peer and elected hereditary member of the House of Lords. Lord Willoughby de Broke gave an excellent speech in which he explained why he had resigned the Conservative whip in the House of Lords to join UKIP, and also outlined the reasons why he believed that it was in Britain's best interests to leave the EU. Alas this function was marred somewhat by some over-aggressive questioning of the guest speaker by one gentleman in particular, who for good measure also launched an unfortunate verbal attack upon a long-standing and highly-respected LSC supporter. Certainly steps must be taken to prevent similar such unseemly behaviour in future.
The third meeting was addressed by Mr. Philip Hollobone MP (Conservative, Kettering), another member of the "Better Off Out" group. In spite of the fact that Mr. Hollobone's speech unfortunately conveyed a very pessimistic outlook for the immediate future, and the fact that a couple of the views which he expressed were at odds with the opinions of most LSC members, he even so gave a most informative and captivating speech, and demonstrated why there is so much hope for us all in the newer intake of Conservative MPs.

NEW BRITAIN NEWS
New Britain held a most successful event on Sunday 1st July, when in order to mark Canada's National Day they laid a wreath on the grave of Gen. James Wolfe at St.Alfege's Church in Greenwich.
On Saturday 28th July New Britain will be staging a special day's activity in Plymouth in memory of Sir Francis Drake. The highlight of the day will be a challenge game of bowls between the National Chairman of New Britain, Mr. Dennis Delderfield, and the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Cllr. David James, at Plymouth Hoe Bowling Club. This match will take place between 11.00 hrs and 12.00 hrs, and everyone is invited to come along to watch. Following this challenge match, between 12.00 hrs and 13.00 hrs, a short bowls tournament will take place featuring some of the top teams in Devon, after which a selection of wines provided by English wine-growers from Totnes will be sampled and a toast raised to the immortal memory of Drake and his English fleet. The City of Plymouth Sea Cadets have also been invited to parade at this event, carrying a special banner which has been specially made for the occasion. The final event of the day will be a keynote speech to be delivered by Mr. Delderfield on the theme of "Freedom", which will take place in the Plymouth Hoe Bowling Club Pavilion. It is believed that all this will take place on the exact anniversary of the first sighting of the Spanish Armada when Drake was playing his famous game of bowls!

PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE ZIMBABWE NATIONAL SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS
The Zimbabwe National SPCA (ZNSPCA)’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, has returned to the High Court to discuss the issue of the Shearwater elephants with a judge, as access to the elephants continued to be denied to the ZNSPCA despite a recent Court order granting access. The ZNSPCA continues to question why access is denied. Welfare concerns grow as yet another elephant has died.
ZNSPCA attorney Beatrice Mtetwa stated before the judge that she found the situation extremely unusual in that the ZNSPCA was being instructed to rely on veterinarians that they did not commission. Ms Mtetwa has written to the Director of Veterinary Services and to one of the veterinarians nominated by Shearwater Adventures to organise a visit to the premises where the elephants are being kept. To date, no reply has been received. Both the above veterinarians were included in the court order at Shearwater’s request.
The ZNSPCA’s statutory right to inspect the elephants continues to be frustrated. The ZNSPCA believes it should not have to go to court in the first place to have access to animals for inspection.
In November 2006, 12 juvenile elephants were captured from wild herds in the Hwange [Wankie] National Park to be "trained" for work with Shearwater Adventures. One elephant subsequently escaped and one died days after capture.
The Zimbabwe National SPCA (ZNSPCA) laid charges on 19 December 2006 to initiate a prosecution process against Shearwater Adventures, for cruelty to animals. The ZNSPCA has consistently been denied access to the 10 elephants that were being held in the bomas at Nakavango range in the Victoria Falls. Veterinarians from both Zimbabwe and South Africa have also been denied access to the elephants.
On the 12th January 2007, the ZNSPCA filed a complaint with Zimbabwe Republic Police in Victoria Falls, for obstruction (in terms of section 12 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act) after access to the elephants was again denied.
The ZNSPCA attempted to meet with representatives of Shearwater to discuss the way forward. The board of the ZNSPCA attempted to engage in dialogue with Shearwater’s appointed lawyer but no agreement was imminent. Shearwater Adventures threatened to bring a civil suit against ZNSPCA for malicious prosecution, claiming that its business had suffered due to the ZNSPCA’s actions.
Shearwater eventually agreed to meet with ZNSPCA in the presence of their lawyer on 31 January 2007. In this meeting it was agreed that both parties would release a statement to the effect that they were working together for the betterment of the elephants concerned.
Shearwater have not withdrawn their threat of malicious prosecution against ZNSPCA.
On 19 February 2007, the ZNSPCA expressed concern that access continued to be denied. After phoning Shearwater, the ZNSPCA was informed by the then Managing Director, Allen Roberts, that until press statements were approved, no access would be granted.
Mrs. Mtetwa, the lawyer acting for and on behalf of the ZNSPCA proceeded to the High Court to obtain an order for ZNSPCA to have unrestricted/unhindered access to the elephants.
On 9 March the Honourable Mr Justice Patel granted a Court order to the ZNSPCA, giving access to the elephants. Shearwater Adventures insisted that they wanted ZNSPCA personnel to be accompanied by two vets, namely Drs Foggin and Zvishiri as well as a member of National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority on such visits. Shearwater Adventures requested that the ZNSPCA would give them 24-hours notice before a visit in order to facilitate the summoning of two veterinarians to accompany them.
The ZNSPCA gave Shearwater Adventures 2 working days notice of an intended visit/inspection on 26 March 2007. Shearwater personnel insisted that it was ZNSPCA’s responsibility to obtain the relevant veterinarians and because this had not been done, the ZNSPCA was denied access.
Shearwater has given access to numerous individuals and companies but still resists the ZNSPCA. In the interim, another elephant has died, leaving 9 elephants in the bomas.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
OUT OF TUNE
I am a fairly competent church organist: lost in a concert hall or cathedral, but more or less adequate for an average sized church. Despite outward appearances a church is not a peaceful place, and after the decades all I wanted was out, out, OUT. Twenty years later I was approached by a senior member of our Anglican church with the usual request. To my eternal shame and regret I complied.
My predecessor had resigned after a row. This is quite usual, but in this case caused me some difficulty. Most English hymns have more than one tune, and custom invariably decrees which particular hymn-tune should be used. In this case not even the top clergy could be of assistance, so I decided to use the tunes current at my previous church. It soon became apparent that none of my tunes were known to any of the Coloured domestics, who formed far too large a part of the congregation. They rushed up and tore my hands from the keyboard. This happened twice, so I pulled out. A new and competent Black priest was soon afterwards appointed, and I gratefully thought my troubles were over. Actually they had only just begun. A non-stop routine of walking up and banging the organist's chair began. The seating of this church is such that when the congregation is standing for the hymns, the organist is invisible from the front of the church. It is hard to concentrate while this is going on, but I persevered. But when several of these viragos seized the organ stool and tried to shake me off, I did what I should have done long before, and walked out.
God Bless Africa indeed, but NOT the Whites in the Anglican Church!

The purpose of the Association of the Commonwealth Realms is to ensure we do not complete with existing organisations, but rather to complement them by bringing into the debate on Europe the concerns of those other nations who rely on the Crown for their constitutional security.
By the time you receive this letter I expect that John Clemence will have addressed your meeting. He is a chap greatly underestimated and should long ago have been knighted rather than the sorts of people who have been honoured in recent years.
The main problem, of course, is keeping the Australian Monarchist League alive in spite of rising costs. As you would have been noted from my recent e-mails, there is so much to be done, and yet, as Rhodes so wisely said, so little time.

OBITUARY
NORMAN POTTER
It was with extreme sadness that we recently learnt the tragic news of the sudden death of Norman Potter.
Norman Potter was born at Rochdale in Lancashire, but emigrated to Rhodesia together with his brother immediately following World War II. An engineer by profession, specialising in heavy diesel engineering, he quickly made his mark in his new country, settling at Gatooma. Here he met and married his wife Beryl, and they had two sons together. He subsequently served in the Rhodesian Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant-Major in the Staff Corps, and became an active member of the MOTHs (the Memorable Order of Tin Hats) after leaving the army.
Following the fall of Rhodesia he moved first to Australia, but then back to southern Africa where he settled in Durban. With the decline of South Africa he eventually returned to the UK however, settling at Herne Bay on the Kent coast. His commitment to the cause of his southern African kith and kin still wasn't over however, for he became a very keen, active and popular member of the Kent Branch of the Rhodesians Worldwide movement, as well as attending a number of functions staged by the Kent Branch of the Springbok Club.
Norman Potter will be greatly missed by all who knew him and admired him so much. He embodied all that is best in our race, and all the time that the British nation can continue to produce men like Norman then we will have nothing to fear for the future. Our sincerest sympathies are extended to Beryl, his grandson Josh and all other members of his family.

July 2007 edition
By all accounts the guest speaker at this year's graduation ceremony at Queen's University Belfast was the South African primate Desmond Tutu, who evidently made some very ignorant comments in which he tried to compare recent developments in South Africa with those in Northern Ireland.
We do not intend to list all of the 1001 differences between the situations in these two most strategic parts of the globe, but one fundamental difference must be glowingly obvious to all but the primate Tutu. Whereas in South Africa the terrorist ANC have been totally victorious in their complete takeover of the country, and all manifestations of the previous White-ruled nation have been destroyed as a result, in Ulster the terrorist SF/IRA have completely failed to achieve their basic aims.
To be sure, there have been several recent developments in Northern Ireland which have been sickening in the extreme, such as the renaming and restructuring of the RUC and the presence of unreconstructed terrorists in government, but the fact remains that the prospect of a "United Ireland" is now probably further away than when SF/IRA resumed their terror campaign during the late 1960s - indeed it is probably true that the re-unification of the entire United Kingdom is now more likely than an independent united Ireland! The true flag of Northern Ireland still proudly flies across the province rather than the terrorist's flag (unlike in South Africa, where the terrorist government have banned open displays of the nation's real flag), the SF/IRA murder campaign has all but ceased (unlike the ongoing ANC-inspired murder campaign in the South African platteland), and all forms of Loyalist culture are flourishing (unlike in South Africa, where Afrikaner culture is being suppressed).
Hardliners on both sides of the political divide in Ulster have of course been vociferous in condemning the power-sharing government foisted upon the province by Blair's Labour government, but from the Unionist point-of-view the situation undoubtedly could have been far, far worse. SF/IRA have been forced to lay down their weapons and to recognise the Crown's forces of law and order in order to enter the power-sharing government. When one also considers that the First Minister at Stormont is not simply a Unionist but the non-compromising leader of the DUP, Dr. Ian Paisley, then it is quite obvious which side has come out on top.

SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC KENT BRANCH'S SUMMER GATHERING
Although last month's SC/ELC Kent Branch's summer gathering proved a happy and enjoyable occasion, the turnout alas was surprisingly low. As one member travelled all the way down from the Chilterns in order to attend it was therefore particularly disappointing that not more supporters from the county itself took the trouble to patronise this branch event. Current Branch Chairman Robert Shipley announced that because of pressures in his personal life, and his extra responsibilities as the SC/ELC Overseas Liaison Officer, he wished to step down from the Branch Chairmanship. Happily, however, it seems as if another branch member will be willing to takeover this position, so it is therefore hoped that the branch will be able to obtain more support at future such gatherings.

Albert Weidemann was born at Broken Hill in Northern Rhodesia, before moving to Bulawayo in Southern Rhodesia as a child during the early 1960s. He went to junior school in Bulawayo and senior school in the Rhodesian Midlands, before serving in the Rhodesian Army from 1977 to 1980.
Having moved to the UK, he became Deputy Chairman of the Manchester Branch of the MDC in 2000. He has campaigned vigorously outside the Zimbabwe High Commission in London with both Black and White colleagues, and has spoken out in debates and in both the local and international media exposing Mugabe's mass human rights abuses. He writes as follows:-
"History shall no doubt bear witness to Zimbabwe's illegal president, Robert Gabriel Mugabe's scorched earth policy that has escalated year on year over the last 27 years of his autocratic rule, along with his insistence to remain in power at all costs. Yet, Southern African Development Community (SADC) leaders and African Union (AU) leaders remain resolute, consistently failing to criticize or condemn Zimbabwe's actions. Why? With mass displacement of the vulnerable, the disadvantaged, the homeless, the sick and the poor taking place, and the eviction of Black farm workers who have lived and worked generation upon generation within the farming industry - persecuting, torturing and incarcerating any and all who question or oppose his draconian rule. Many the world over remain shell-shocked in listening to and watching Mugabe's hysterical rants and attempts at blaming not only the White commercial farmers but the international community at large for Zimbabwe's decline and the demise of it's once vibrant, self-sustaining and growing agricultural economy. In Zimbabwe's first decade they acquired 40% of land from Whites. In 1994 a land tenure commission recommended the best way to achieve distribution was through a land tax, implementing the "fast track" resettlement programme in July 2000. What happened to the land tax recommendations? We all know why his 'fast track' programme was implemented!!"

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The London Swinton Circle held three separate meetings during early July.
The first was addressed by Mr. Philip Davies MP (Conservative, Shipley), a leading member of the "Better Off Out" group and owner of the racehorse Osolomio. This proved to be a most successful meeting, with Mr. Davies giving a highly enlightening speech in which he relayed current feelings within the Conservative caucus at Westminster, and overall gave a very optimistic view of possible future developments.
The second was the LSC's annual Summer Buffet at which the guest speaker will be Lord Willoughby de Broke, the UKIP peer and elected hereditary member of the House of Lords. Lord Willoughby de Broke gave an excellent speech in which he explained why he had resigned the Conservative whip in the House of Lords to join UKIP, and also outlined the reasons why he believed that it was in Britain's best interests to leave the EU. Alas this function was marred somewhat by some over-aggressive questioning of the guest speaker by one gentleman in particular, who for good measure also launched an unfortunate verbal attack upon a long-standing and highly-respected LSC supporter. Certainly steps must be taken to prevent similar such unseemly behaviour in future.
The third meeting was addressed by Mr. Philip Hollobone MP (Conservative, Kettering), another member of the "Better Off Out" group. In spite of the fact that Mr. Hollobone's speech unfortunately conveyed a very pessimistic outlook for the immediate future, and the fact that a couple of the views which he expressed were at odds with the opinions of most LSC members, he even so gave a most informative and captivating speech, and demonstrated why there is so much hope for us all in the newer intake of Conservative MPs.

NEW BRITAIN NEWS
New Britain held a most successful event on Sunday 1st July, when in order to mark Canada's National Day they laid a wreath on the grave of Gen. James Wolfe at St.Alfege's Church in Greenwich.
On Saturday 28th July New Britain will be staging a special day's activity in Plymouth in memory of Sir Francis Drake. The highlight of the day will be a challenge game of bowls between the National Chairman of New Britain, Mr. Dennis Delderfield, and the Lord Mayor of Plymouth, Cllr. David James, at Plymouth Hoe Bowling Club. This match will take place between 11.00 hrs and 12.00 hrs, and everyone is invited to come along to watch. Following this challenge match, between 12.00 hrs and 13.00 hrs, a short bowls tournament will take place featuring some of the top teams in Devon, after which a selection of wines provided by English wine-growers from Totnes will be sampled and a toast raised to the immortal memory of Drake and his English fleet. The City of Plymouth Sea Cadets have also been invited to parade at this event, carrying a special banner which has been specially made for the occasion. The final event of the day will be a keynote speech to be delivered by Mr. Delderfield on the theme of "Freedom", which will take place in the Plymouth Hoe Bowling Club Pavilion. It is believed that all this will take place on the exact anniversary of the first sighting of the Spanish Armada when Drake was playing his famous game of bowls!

PRESS STATEMENT FROM THE ZIMBABWE NATIONAL SOCIETY FOR THE PREVENTION OF CRUELTY TO ANIMALS
The Zimbabwe National SPCA (ZNSPCA)’s lawyer, Beatrice Mtetwa, has returned to the High Court to discuss the issue of the Shearwater elephants with a judge, as access to the elephants continued to be denied to the ZNSPCA despite a recent Court order granting access. The ZNSPCA continues to question why access is denied. Welfare concerns grow as yet another elephant has died.
ZNSPCA attorney Beatrice Mtetwa stated before the judge that she found the situation extremely unusual in that the ZNSPCA was being instructed to rely on veterinarians that they did not commission. Ms Mtetwa has written to the Director of Veterinary Services and to one of the veterinarians nominated by Shearwater Adventures to organise a visit to the premises where the elephants are being kept. To date, no reply has been received. Both the above veterinarians were included in the court order at Shearwater’s request.
The ZNSPCA’s statutory right to inspect the elephants continues to be frustrated. The ZNSPCA believes it should not have to go to court in the first place to have access to animals for inspection.
In November 2006, 12 juvenile elephants were captured from wild herds in the Hwange [Wankie] National Park to be "trained" for work with Shearwater Adventures. One elephant subsequently escaped and one died days after capture.
The Zimbabwe National SPCA (ZNSPCA) laid charges on 19 December 2006 to initiate a prosecution process against Shearwater Adventures, for cruelty to animals. The ZNSPCA has consistently been denied access to the 10 elephants that were being held in the bomas at Nakavango range in the Victoria Falls. Veterinarians from both Zimbabwe and South Africa have also been denied access to the elephants.
On the 12th January 2007, the ZNSPCA filed a complaint with Zimbabwe Republic Police in Victoria Falls, for obstruction (in terms of section 12 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act) after access to the elephants was again denied.
The ZNSPCA attempted to meet with representatives of Shearwater to discuss the way forward. The board of the ZNSPCA attempted to engage in dialogue with Shearwater’s appointed lawyer but no agreement was imminent. Shearwater Adventures threatened to bring a civil suit against ZNSPCA for malicious prosecution, claiming that its business had suffered due to the ZNSPCA’s actions.
Shearwater eventually agreed to meet with ZNSPCA in the presence of their lawyer on 31 January 2007. In this meeting it was agreed that both parties would release a statement to the effect that they were working together for the betterment of the elephants concerned.
Shearwater have not withdrawn their threat of malicious prosecution against ZNSPCA.
On 19 February 2007, the ZNSPCA expressed concern that access continued to be denied. After phoning Shearwater, the ZNSPCA was informed by the then Managing Director, Allen Roberts, that until press statements were approved, no access would be granted.
Mrs. Mtetwa, the lawyer acting for and on behalf of the ZNSPCA proceeded to the High Court to obtain an order for ZNSPCA to have unrestricted/unhindered access to the elephants.
On 9 March the Honourable Mr Justice Patel granted a Court order to the ZNSPCA, giving access to the elephants. Shearwater Adventures insisted that they wanted ZNSPCA personnel to be accompanied by two vets, namely Drs Foggin and Zvishiri as well as a member of National Parks and Wildlife Management Authority on such visits. Shearwater Adventures requested that the ZNSPCA would give them 24-hours notice before a visit in order to facilitate the summoning of two veterinarians to accompany them.
The ZNSPCA gave Shearwater Adventures 2 working days notice of an intended visit/inspection on 26 March 2007. Shearwater personnel insisted that it was ZNSPCA’s responsibility to obtain the relevant veterinarians and because this had not been done, the ZNSPCA was denied access.
Shearwater has given access to numerous individuals and companies but still resists the ZNSPCA. In the interim, another elephant has died, leaving 9 elephants in the bomas.

Dr. Hartzenberg was leader of the Conservative Party of South Africa, and spoke at a Springbok Club meeting way back in 1997. Alas, with the increasingly dictatorial rule of the ANC regime in the "new" South Africa opposition politics has become steadily more irrelevant, and as a result all contact has been lost with Dr. Hartzenberg and other members of the former Conservative Party of SA. We have recently been contacted by Dr. Hartzenberg's nephew Joshua Hartzenberg however, who has evidently been trying unsuccessfully to contact his uncle for some time now. LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
OUT OF TUNE
I am a fairly competent church organist: lost in a concert hall or cathedral, but more or less adequate for an average sized church. Despite outward appearances a church is not a peaceful place, and after the decades all I wanted was out, out, OUT. Twenty years later I was approached by a senior member of our Anglican church with the usual request. To my eternal shame and regret I complied.
My predecessor had resigned after a row. This is quite usual, but in this case caused me some difficulty. Most English hymns have more than one tune, and custom invariably decrees which particular hymn-tune should be used. In this case not even the top clergy could be of assistance, so I decided to use the tunes current at my previous church. It soon became apparent that none of my tunes were known to any of the Coloured domestics, who formed far too large a part of the congregation. They rushed up and tore my hands from the keyboard. This happened twice, so I pulled out. A new and competent Black priest was soon afterwards appointed, and I gratefully thought my troubles were over. Actually they had only just begun. A non-stop routine of walking up and banging the organist's chair began. The seating of this church is such that when the congregation is standing for the hymns, the organist is invisible from the front of the church. It is hard to concentrate while this is going on, but I persevered. But when several of these viragos seized the organ stool and tried to shake me off, I did what I should have done long before, and walked out.
God Bless Africa indeed, but NOT the Whites in the Anglican Church!

SO MUCH TO DO
Sir,
The purpose of the Association of the Commonwealth Realms is to ensure we do not complete with existing organisations, but rather to complement them by bringing into the debate on Europe the concerns of those other nations who rely on the Crown for their constitutional security.
By the time you receive this letter I expect that John Clemence will have addressed your meeting. He is a chap greatly underestimated and should long ago have been knighted rather than the sorts of people who have been honoured in recent years.
The main problem, of course, is keeping the Australian Monarchist League alive in spite of rising costs. As you would have been noted from my recent e-mails, there is so much to be done, and yet, as Rhodes so wisely said, so little time.

OBITUARY
NORMAN POTTER
It was with extreme sadness that we recently learnt the tragic news of the sudden death of Norman Potter.
Norman Potter was born at Rochdale in Lancashire, but emigrated to Rhodesia together with his brother immediately following World War II. An engineer by profession, specialising in heavy diesel engineering, he quickly made his mark in his new country, settling at Gatooma. Here he met and married his wife Beryl, and they had two sons together. He subsequently served in the Rhodesian Army, rising to the rank of Sergeant-Major in the Staff Corps, and became an active member of the MOTHs (the Memorable Order of Tin Hats) after leaving the army.
Following the fall of Rhodesia he moved first to Australia, but then back to southern Africa where he settled in Durban. With the decline of South Africa he eventually returned to the UK however, settling at Herne Bay on the Kent coast. His commitment to the cause of his southern African kith and kin still wasn't over however, for he became a very keen, active and popular member of the Kent Branch of the Rhodesians Worldwide movement, as well as attending a number of functions staged by the Kent Branch of the Springbok Club.
Norman Potter will be greatly missed by all who knew him and admired him so much. He embodied all that is best in our race, and all the time that the British nation can continue to produce men like Norman then we will have nothing to fear for the future. Our sincerest sympathies are extended to Beryl, his grandson Josh and all other members of his family.
