There were many doomsayers who predicted that the election of Barack Hussein Obama as President of the United States in 2008 would mean the end of the United States as we know it, and that there would never again be a White US President. Although Barack Hussein Obama and his administration undoubtedly tried their best to diminish the power of the US and to undermine Western security around the globe, and although the country is now unquestionably worse off and weaker than it was in 2008, it has somehow managed to survive – and indeed this year’s election will definitely see the return of another White President.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is by no means our ideal candidate. She is after all a scion of the liberal establishment with a very dubious track-record for self-advancement whilst in government. It must be admitted, however, that whilst Secretary of State she ensured that the terrorist Osama bin Laden was eliminated, when left to his own devices Obama would probably have found excuses for taking no action – just as he did when he refused to order US military intervention in Syria to halt the civil war there. Hillary Clinton would therefore undoubtedly be an improvement on Obama, and we believe would also make a somewhat better President than her husband – and without question is infinitely preferable to “Bernie”! A Hillary Clinton presidency would therefore probably see a slight improvement for the American people over the dark Obama years – but only marginally.
But it is not merely a slight improvement in the situation which the American people – indeed the Western World as a whole – needs, it requires a drastic and radical improvement. In this regard we have been highly excited by the campaign of this year’s GOP candidate, Donald J. Trump. To be sure he has made some disgusting comments in the past, particularly about women, which we and all other decent people must condemn - but these have only been words, and pale into insignificance when compared to the disgusting actions taken against women by the previous US Presidents Harding, Kennedy and Clinton – the latter two of whom are still lionized by the liberal media to this day! Against his faults (and what human being doesn’t have faults?) Donald J. Trump brings many virtues which we believe are attributes which are vitally necessary for any leader of the free world. He has vision and determination, he possesses ruthless business efficiency, he is a true American patriot, and he understands the true dynamics of the dangerous world which we live in today. He has vowed to “Make America Great Again”, and by so doing will bring increasing strength to the entire Western World.
There are many who believe that Donald J. Trump stands no chance of winning on 8th November – but of course these same people said that he stood no chance of procuring the GOP nomination. He has galvanized whole sections of the American electorate with energy and enthusiasm not seen since the days of Ronald Reagan, and with polling figures narrowing – particularly in the swing-states – the chances of Donald J. Trump becoming the 45th President of the United States are clearly now more than just a remote possibility as they seemed just a few months ago. Although we had hoped that he would select Michele Bachmann as his Vice-Presidential running mate, Governor Mike Pence seems a fine fellow, whose experience and gravitas could encourage wavering members of the GOP establishment to support the ticket.
Already this year we have seen two great triumphs for patriotic forces in the West – firstly in the New Zealand Flag Referendum, and secondly the glorious victory for the Brexit cause in Britain’s EU Referendum. All that is needed now for a hat-trick of triumphs for Western ascendancy is for the Trump/Pence ticket to be victorious on 8th November. We therefore encourage all of our American readers, regardless of any doubts which they might have, not only to vote for the Trump/Pence ticket, but also to campaign tirelessly among their friends and communities to ensure that this victory comes about!

The Imperial War Museum is situated at Lambeth Road, London SE1 6HZ, and the Springbok Cub trip will include viewing a special exhibition being staged there entitled “Curiosities of War”, and possibly also another special exhibition entitled “Real to Reel: A Century of War Movies” (although there will be an extra charge of £10, or £7.00 for concessions, to view this exhibition). After the visit to the Imperial War Museum has been completed the Springbok Club party will adjourn to a pleasant hostelry not too far away for a convivial evening and discussions about future activities. SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The re-launch meeting of the Swinton Circle has now been fixed for March of next year. This will of course give an opportunity for the finalisation of unity talks with another leading patriotic organization, and the possibility therefore exists that rather than being a re-launch event for the Swinton Circle alone it will actually be the foundation meeting for a new larger merged organization. In the meantime we can assure all Swinton Circle supporters that the Swinton Circle Circulation Service will continue, and that a more low-key meeting featuring a highly respected Brexit analyst may well be taking place over the winter months.

END CRUELTY TO SCOTLAND’S ANIMALS
In spite of the high-profile banning of Fox Hunting in Scotland prior to its ban in the rest of the United Kingdom (praiseworthy legislation which was actually enacted by the previous Labour Scottish “government”, rather than by the present SNP abomination), cruelty to Scotland’s animals alas continues, most notably in the form of allowing the use of demonic animal snares (which actually cause more suffering to foxes than even hunting with dogs), the ‘culling’ of mountain hares, permitting the use of electric-shock collars for dog training (something already banned by the Welsh authorities), allowing the non-stun slaughter of wildstock and the needless and perverted murder of beavers and seals. All these terrible inhuman activities have been highlighted by the Edinburgh-based OneKind Advocates for Animals organization, to whom full credit must be extended. The current SNP “government” in Holyrood seems ever-ready to shower largesse on third world migrants at the expense of their own indigenous people – but it seems as if they don’t care for the well-being of their indigenous wildlife and domestic animals either!

SPORTING TROPHIES
The first Ryder Cup competition since Britain’s glorious Brexit decision was held at the start of this month – and resulted in a quite comfortable victory for the United States! As we observed in the October 2014 SCN, the Ryder Cup was initiated in 1927 as a competition between golfers from the United States and the British Isles only. Regretfully, however, following a period of perceived weakness in British Golf, the United States’ opponents were altered to being an all-Europe team in 1979. This alteration never proved satisfactory however, as few other than the most pro-EU fanatics ever found it in them to support the “European” side. At much the same time, however, increasing national self-confidence in Britain and a return of the Corinthian spirit meant that British golfing prowess returned to its former strength so that there was a realistic chance that the nation could once again challenge the United States on its own. Having been given the opportunity to compete in this most iconic golfing competition we didn’t want to advocate denying other European golfers the chance to compete however, so what we suggested therefore was to change the structure of the Ryder Cup so that it became a bi-annual competition in which all nation-states could compete – in much the way as the Davis Cup is scheduled in Lawn Tennis. With the UK’s forthcoming exit from the EU the present structure of the Ryder Cup therefore becomes increasingly meaningless, so we therefore now advocate this suggested change to a wider number of competing nations even more strongly.
But there has been another iconic sporting trophy competed for between the United States and Britain which alas became defunct several years ago now, in 1989 in fact, namely the Wightman Cup for Ladies Lawn Tennis. Again the reason for the discontinuation of this trophy was because of perceived British sporting weakness, but again over more recent years revived British self-confidence has meant that increased British Lawn Tennis success the nation could now once again realistically challenge the United States. The Federation Cup of course now provides a global competition for Ladies Lawn Tennis in much he same way as the Davis Cup does for men, so we therefore do not advocate opening up the Wightman Cup to all nations in the same way as we advocate opening up the Ryder Cup in Golf – but for several years now many have complained that the Ladies Lawn Tennis circuit ends far too early each year, so why therefore don’t the authorities re-inaugurate the traditional Wightman Cup annually each late-November?

REMEMBERING DR. VERWOERD
A supporter who lived for many years in South Africa, but who is now based once again in his native Australia, has recently sent us an account of his own memories of South Africa during the days of civilized rule under Dr. Hendrik Verwoerd. It reads as follows :-
“It was an ordinary morning and as I moved along Adderley Street in Cape Town. I saw Cape Town as I had seen it every morning since I had arrived in May 1966. Cape Townians moved as they had always moved: with energy and purpose. This was the beginning of South Africa's spring and on this morning of the 6th September 1966, an air of optimism pervaded the Cape Town streets.
“Later in the morning the air of optimism suddenly evaporated. It was the radio that carried the dreadful news of Dimitrios Tsafendas. This mixed bag of mental aberrations had plunged a knife into Hendrik Verwoerd. This was just up the road. We were in the middle of an assassination and we had lost a Prime Minister.
A friend of my sister, Dr Doris Johnson of Groote Schuur, was called to Parliament where she examined and pronounced Dr Verwoerd dead.
“The rest of the day was of reflection. I wrote that South Africans showed little emotion out there on the streets of Cape Town. I think all were stunned beyond belief.
“Balthazar Johannes Vorster took the oath of office and this former OB (Ossewa Brandwag) leader was now the boss of South Africa. I met Mr. Vorster at Plettenberg Bay a few years later and I mentioned my observations of 6th September. He looked at me sadly and nodded. That's all he did. Nod.
“I also met Dr Verwoerd's son-in-law at Hazyview near Nelspruit. I repeated my observations of 1966 and a few precious moments were spent in quiet discussion. Clearly, Dr Verwoerd's assassination continued to reverberate within the Republic of South Africa.”

Anton Foljambe was the leader of several successive patriotic organizations in New Zealand during the 1990s. He made good and regular contact with our own movement during those days, and in spite of holding a few naïve opinions we established close and very friendly links with him. All contact however suddenly and inexplicably ceased around the year 2000, and although it was briefly re-established in the Internet age during the mid-2000s it unfortunately ended again shortly after this. He always seemed a very good and sincere man, so we would therefore be very keen to learn what has become of him.

Sir,
Greetings from Pretoria on "Youth Day", a public holiday to commemorate the "Soweto Uprising". No mention is made now that school-kids were encouraged to take to the streets, using stones to engage armed police, ostensibly because they did not want Afrikaans in their school curriculum. It was a case of adults using children as canon-fodder, not unlike certain terrorist movements in Africa to the north of us arm young boys with AK47s and use them as storm-troops against the civilian population.

THE TIMES THEY ARE A’CHANGING
Sir,
I had the feeling the people would wilt under the most disgusting propaganda from not just the “Remain” side but HM government and the civil service doing their masters' bidding. It may have been a bigger margin, but once again the dirty-tricks brigade were at it by extending the registration process by 48 hours (as if it had not been a long enough time to register already). Also the death of that Labour MP was used to blacken the BREXIT campaign with all sort of scurrilous attempts to link them to it. Shameful. Anyway, we have to hold May's (not my favourite Tory and not a great Home Secretary either) feet to the fire and ensure there is no backsliding on the terms or timetable of exit. What the whole process showed those in power was that the public are heartily sick to the back teeth of uncontrolled levels of immigration.
We are starting to live in very interesting times, although I probably will be dead when the endgame starts in earnest.

OBITUARIES
The past few weeks have sadly seen the deaths of three great sportsmen, all of whom had strong South African connections :-
DICKIE JEEPS
Richard “Dickie” Jeeps, who has died aged 84, was one of the greatest scrum-halves ever to play for England, and with Richard Sharp formed one of the most feared half-back partnerships ever produced by England. Born into a Cambridgeshire fruit farming family, he played club Rugby for both Cambridge and Northampton, and after his playing days were over he became a highly effective and respected administrator, not just in Rugby Union but also for sport in general. He won 24 caps for England and 13 for the British Lions. He toured on three occasions with the British Lions, twice, in 1955 and 1962, to South Africa. These of course were in the days of civilized rule in South Africa when great pressure was placed on sportsmen from other Western countries not to compete there by leftist extremists, so an act of touring not once but twice required great courage and true solidarity with his kith and kin.
TONY MOTTRAM
Anthony “Tony” Mottram, who has died aged 96, was undoubtedly Britain’s greatest male Lawn Tennis player of the immediate post-WWII era. He reached the Men’s Doubles final of the All-England Championship at Wimbledon in 1947 and the quarter-final of the Men’s Singles there in 1948. He also reached the fourth round of the French Open at Roland Garros twice and represented Great Britain in 56 Davis Cup matches. A lifelong patriot he volunteered to serve in the RAF immediately upon the outbreak of WWII, undergoing his initial training in Southern Rhodesia where a fellow-trainee was the Hon. Ian Douglas Smith. He completed his training in South Africa, and then went on to serve with distinction, being awarded the DFC for a daring attack on enemy ships off the Norwegian coast. After his playing career was over he became a Lawn Tennis journalist and a professional coach, with both his son Chris (“Buster”) and daughter Linda playing on the professional circuit. His patriotic as well as his sporting genes ran in his family however, for Buster Mottram became one of very few leading British sportsmen openly prepared to nail his flag to the patriotic mast.
JOHN GLEESON
John Gleeson, who has died aged 78, played Test Cricket for Australia on 29 occasions. Regarded as the most “demon” spin bowlers of his age, he used a unique action involving his middle-finger which caused movement off the pitch in both directions. In all he took 93 wickets in Test Cricket at an average of 36.20, and 430 wickets in all First Class Cricket at 24.95. He toured South Africa with Australia in 1970, again still at the time of civilized rule in that country which thus entailed great bravery in facing the odium of left-wing fanatics. His solidarity with his South African kith and kin went further than this international tour however, for he returned to play for the “rebel” DH Robins XI Tour of 1974/75, and then spent a season playing for Eastern Province in 1975/76, when he was voted South Africa’s Cricketer of the Year.
We salute the memories of all three of these great patriotic sportsmen, and extend our condolences to all members of their families.

The victory of the “Vote Leave” campaign in the EU Referendum held in the UK on 23rd June was of course a glorious triumph in itself, but even more encouraging developments have subsequently transpired both in the UK itself and in the Western World as a whole. It is just as if an entirely new – and better – zeitgeist has suddenly emerged!
The first such development has been the spontaneous emergence of what the liberal/left media refers to as “post-Brexit racial attacks”. Although there have been a few isolated examples of physical attacks against members of the immigrant and immigrant-descended population (both Third World from the immediate post-WWII decades, and more recent from eastern Europe as a direct result of Britain’s EU membership) these have in reality been very few and far between. The far more common form that these “attacks” have taken has been verbal and involving wall graffiti. Although perhaps unpleasant, are such expressions of opinion really as reprehensible as the liberal/left media would have us believe? The immigrants (although perhaps in many cases their parents and grandparents) made the voluntarily decision to move to another more advanced country where they must have known that they would not be welcome, so therefore only have themselves (or their parents or grandparents) to blame if they have been upset by any unpleasantness. The surprising thing is that it has taken so many decades for the British people to voice their opposition to these unwelcome waves of immigration, as they were cowered into silence by anti-free speech “race relations” legislation enacted by the Wilson/Heath/Callaghan socialist administrations of the 1960s and 1970s – and more recently by the “politically correct” zeitgeist of the 1990s. The fact that the British people have now been liberated in this regard can therefore surely only be regarded as a good thing for all concerned – particularly as so many of the immigrants and their descendents are now re-locating back to their own countries where they will undoubtedly be far happier and feel more at home.
The second development has been the fact that it now appears “trendy” to have supported Brexit – indeed it seems very difficult to find many people who now openly admit to have voted to Remain! The most pro-EU party, the Liberal Democrats, continue to languish in the opinion polls in spite of the fact that the Labour Party is currently in such complete disarray, and despite the fact that many commentators predicted that as their main aim had been accomplished UKIP would simply wither away, their support under their new leadership has actually been rising! But it is with the governing Conservative Party where this new pro-Brexit energizing has been most noticeable and important however. Although Prime Minister Theresa May supported the Remain side at the Referendum (albeit only luke-warmly) she has now emphatically stated “Brexit means Brexit”, and clearly means it – and 90 to 95% of the Conservative Party have swung into line behind her! The doom-mongering Remainians who predicted economic collapse and disaster immediately following the Brexit vote have been proved to be catastrophically wrong, and most of them have now simply shut up and sulked away into a corner – from where they will probably emerge in a few years time claiming that they secretly supported Brexit all along!
The final development has been that the defiant spirit of Brexit has now spread beyond Britain’s borders, not only to other European nation-states still trapped within the EU, but also to the wider Western world. Already terms such as “Frexit” and “Nexit” etc. have been termed as opinion polls show that the majority of citizens in both France and the Netherlands etc. now favour leaving the EU (indeed the word “Frexit” was seen painted on the road at several places during this year’s Tour de France!). The euphoria of Brexit has furthermore removed the ongoing Greek financial crisis from the international media spotlight, but it is actually continuing unabated, and with one of the main cash-cows keeping the Greek economy afloat soon to leave the EU it means that “Grexit” – at least from the Euro currency – now appears even more inevitable. Meanwhile the current Hungarian government is defiantly opposing the German-inspired mass invasion of the European continent by swarms of Third World migrants, and as a result may be forced out of the EU (which of course will probably be welcomed by the majority of Hungarian people!). This same spirit of national re-assertion is manifesting itself elsewhere around the globe however. As we have observed in the past, the New Zealanders’ decision to retain their true national flag in the Referendum of 24th March of this year can be viewed as the “morning star” of the Brexit triumph, but it is to the United States where perhaps the most encouraging development of this magic year of 2016 may occur. Although just a few months ago a victory for Donald J. Trump in the US Presidential Election seemed impossible, it is now looking increasingly likely – and the invocation of the spirit of Brexit (erstwhile UKIP leader Nigel Farage has already spoken on an official Trump election platform!) has clearly been a major contributing factor for this.
If Donald J. Trump is victorious in November, and if this can then be followed next year by a victory for Marie le Pen in the French Presidential Election (something again which just a few months ago was considered impossible, but is now seeming to be within the bounds of possibility), then quite clearly we will shortly be living in a far different – and far better – world than as recently as 2015! The days ahead will inspire us.

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
We are most pleased – and indeed euphoric - to be able to report that this year’s “Raising of the Flag” ceremony in Norfolk, marking the 126th Anniversary of the foundation of Rhodesia, proved a great success. The turnout at the event this year was clearly higher than last year, and the number of Springbok Club members and supporters in attendance was also a significant increase on previous years. SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
It now looks as if the planned official re-launch of the Swinton Circle featuring a leading personality from the “Vote Leave” campaign in October may have to be put back slightly because of the guest speaker’s tight schedule. This may however prove to be a blessing in disguise, as discussions for a merger between the Swinton Circle and another patriotic organization have still to be finalized (this is in addition to the earlier decision by the 343 Group of Brian Danes and Lindsay Jenkins to merge with the Swinton Circle), and so the planned re-launch meeting could therefore become the first event to be staged by the new larger merged organization. Further details will of course be given in due course in future editions of the SCN.
[ Most readers will probably recall the severe problems experienced by the Swinton Circle which caused the temporary collapse of the organization following a most problematic meeting which the Swinton Circle tried to stage on 31st July 2015. At this meeting the Swinton Circle had invited the leader of an outfit calling itself “Liberty GB”, a certain Mr. Paul Weston, to address the gathering, but in thanks for this act of friendship certain leading officials in “Liberty GB” chose to issue totally unauthorized “invitations” to members of several extremist organizations, who then proceeded to hijack and wreck proceedings. Recently, however, we have learnt of two further most sickening revelations concerning this “Liberty GB” outfit. Firstly they have evidently decided to field a candidate in the Batley & Spen by-election, caused by the terrible murder of the sitting Labour MP Jo Cox, in spite of the fact that all the major parties have decided not to oppose Labour as a mark of respect. This decision by the “Liberty GB” outfit is therefore clearly in shockingly bad taste. Even more significant in this regard, moreover, is the fact that the “Liberty GB” candidate, one Jack Buckby, was clearly implicated in the distribution of the mischief-making unauthorized “invitations” to the disastrous Swinton Circle meeting of 31st July 2015. Secondly a doom-mongering statement issued by Mr.Weston in which he propagates the completely unsubstantiated idea that a Muslim could become British Prime Minister within the next 25 years has recently appeared on the Gatestone Institute’s internet news service. Quite clearly therefore this “Liberty GB” outfit is an unsavoury and indeed highly sinister organization which shouldn’t be touched with a bargepole! ]

THE RIO OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC GAMES
Since writing last month’s SCN the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games have taken place, and just as was the case with the earlier Rio Olympic Games they proved to be a great success, and all those pathetic doom-mongers who predicted that there would not be sufficient funds to stage them and that attendances would be poor were proved categorically wrong! For Britain the outstanding triumphs of the 2016 Olympics continued – and indeed were increased on – in the Paralympics, and our hearty congratulations are of course extended to all the worthy British medal winners. The only objection which we have about Britain’s participation concerns those selected as flag-carriers at the respective opening and closing ceremonies. Of these four nominees two were openly-admitted sexual perverts. What an absolutely appalling example to set to the youth of Britain – and indeed to the youth of the world! We therefore call upon those responsible for these disgusting selections to be dismissed and to be barred from all future participation in Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies.

THE EMPIRE GOES FOR GOLD!
Heather Wheeler, the Conservative MP for South Derbyshire, issued an excellent tweet following the Rio Olympics, in which she drew attention to the fact that sportsmen and women from Great Britain and from the former and current countries of the British Empire won more medals at the 2016 Games than both “the Post-Brexit EU” and “the Rest of the World”! Headlined “Empire Goes for Gold”, Ms. Wheeler listed the number of medals won by GB and the Empire (396) against those won by the post-Brexit EU (258) and the Rest of the World (320), and then went on to state “Now that’s what I call winning! Well done Team GB and our Commonwealth friends; now for the trade agreements”. Predictably this tweet met with odium from yesterday’s men and women of the “politically correct brigade” (still smarting after their crushing defeat in the EU Referendum!), but we – and of course the vast majority of British people around the globe – fully support these positive sentiments so splendidly expressed by Ms. Wheeler. She is certainly a person to watch out for in the future, and we trust will soon obtain a higher government position!

THE “GOOD” TERRORIST
On 27th August Channel 4 aired a documentary entitled “The Good Terrorist” which told the story of the evil White ANC terrorist John Harris who constructed and planted the bomb which killed Ethel Rhys and badly injured several other people at Johannesburg Central Station in 1964.
In spite of its most offensive title, this documentary did a great service by reminding everyone about this criminal atrocity, and the fact that terrorist activity in South Africa during this time actually involved more White traitors than Black malcontents (the vast majority of Blacks of course lived perfectly happily under civilised White rule – far more happily indeed than most do today under ANC rule!). Harris is a mainly forgotten person today, but his name should always be remembered in ignominy. He was revealed as a truly evil entity – he even looked evil (though to be fair perhaps Channel 4 deliberately chose the worst available pictures of him!) - with a clear self-loathing which manifested itself in hatred for his own kith and kin. Thanks to the efficiency of the SAP he was speedily arrested, and rightfully was hanged for his act of terrorist murder. It was also most significant that this Channel 4 documentary had no qualms about reminding everyone that the notorious trouble-maker Peter Hain knew Harris personally, and indeed read the oration at this terrorist vermin’s funeral. Surely there is still time for Hain’s association with this satanic creature to be investigated further, and to be brought to book if any direct involvement with terrorism can be confirmed?
We also couldn’t help wondering what a far better place South Africa would be today – and indeed what a far better place the world as a whole would be now – if Harris’s fellow ANC terrorist murderer “Nelson” Mandela had been sentenced to the same rightful punishment as Harris for his evil crimes.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.214 – Miss DIANE BLEASDALE of Rhodesia and Durban
Diane “Di” Bleasdale was Rhodesian-born, but moved to Durban where she became a high-flying secretary with the Unilever company during the late 1970s. A very attractive woman, she initially showed great interest in the work of the Save Rhodesia Campaign (a number of whose leading local members worked for the Unilever organization), but alas she never became active in any way within the campaign, and indeed became inexplicably “cool” towards one of the leading members. Instead she seemed to devote her considerable energies and talents to the “Rotaract” organization (the junior wing of the international Rotary Clubs). Subsequently it came to light that her parents had been killed in a terrorist atrocity in Rhodesia, and this might well explain why she decided to turn her back on the Save Rhodesia Campaign and instead devote herself to the non-political “Rotaract” organisation. Even so we would be very interested to learn whatever happened to her, and where she is now.

Sir,
I am well aware that Muhammad Ali's views on what can term race in the 1960s and 1970s earned him the approbation of segregationists in Britain and the US; indeed, in 1972 he said of the South African government that "they believe in the same thing I do - segregation."
However, I see no reason to condemn him. He made the eminently sensible statement that "I don't believe in forcing integration. I don't want to go where I'm not wanted."
Forced integration is no more acceptable than forced segregation. It is a question of freedom of association. I wish that the illiberal liberals behind such things as the legalised kidnapping of forced bussing due to their obsession with a "proper racial balance" had had as much sense as the now late and lamented Mr.Ali.

OBITUARY
BRIAN VERNON BAKER
Alas life did not deal Brian Vernon Baker, who sadly died earlier this year at the age of only 66, a very good hand of cards. His mother died within 25 minutes of his birth, and he was involved in a road accident when aged only 10.
Whilst at junior school he sat in their South Africa House, and his father Charlie Baker, an inspector of shipwrights at Chatham Dockyard, carved a superlative plaque for the House featuring a Springbok superimposed on a wooden map of the whole of Africa! Although even by his own admission he was not academically brilliant, he was even so a skilled writer and story-teller, and his Friday afternoon stories which he regularly composed and delivered at junior school proved more popular than those of anybody else.
Unfortunately he didn’t receive very good career advice at school, and left aged 16 to join the Post Office, which subsequently metamorphosised into British Telecom and then BT, where he stayed until he took premature retirement. During his time with BT he was seconded twice to India in order to assist their local subsidiary. As a result of his time in India he wrote a brilliant and most amusing book about his experiences, but alas in spite of much trying he wasn’t able to get it published.
Brian was a staunch British patriot, and proudly served with the Royal Naval Reserve. He also expressed interest in the work of the Springbok Club, but alas was only able to attend one of the organisation’s activities, a trip to the Royal Engineers’ Museum and re-enactment display in Gillingham, as failing health and his distance from London prevented further participation. Although never very sporting, he did take up both rifle-shooting and croquet with a relish whilst serving in the RNR. His main passion in life, however, was nature (he was a keen lifelong animal lover) and in his retirement served as a leading official supervising the Beregrave Nature Reserve in Rainham.
Happily Brian did enjoy one positive aspect of life, as he was blessed with a wonderful charming wife, Rhona, who bore him two children. Sadly however bad fortune struck him again towards the end of his life, for Rhona died a sudden and unexpected death a year before his own tragic death, which came after a long and debilitating illness.
Brian Baker was a great man who served his country well to the best of his abilities. Alas however his country often seemed to fail him. Our sincerest condolences are extended to his two children.

September 2016 edition
The victory of the “Vote Leave” campaign in the EU Referendum held in the UK on 23rd June was of course a glorious triumph in itself, but even more encouraging developments have subsequently transpired both in the UK itself and in the Western World as a whole. It is just as if an entirely new – and better – zeitgeist has suddenly emerged!
The first such development has been the spontaneous emergence of what the liberal/left media refers to as “post-Brexit racial attacks”. Although there have been a few isolated examples of physical attacks against members of the immigrant and immigrant-descended population (both Third World from the immediate post-WWII decades, and more recent from eastern Europe as a direct result of Britain’s EU membership) these have in reality been very few and far between. The far more common form that these “attacks” have taken has been verbal and involving wall graffiti. Although perhaps unpleasant, are such expressions of opinion really as reprehensible as the liberal/left media would have us believe? The immigrants (although perhaps in many cases their parents and grandparents) made the voluntarily decision to move to another more advanced country where they must have known that they would not be welcome, so therefore only have themselves (or their parents or grandparents) to blame if they have been upset by any unpleasantness. The surprising thing is that it has taken so many decades for the British people to voice their opposition to these unwelcome waves of immigration, as they were cowered into silence by anti-free speech “race relations” legislation enacted by the Wilson/Heath/Callaghan socialist administrations of the 1960s and 1970s – and more recently by the “politically correct” zeitgeist of the 1990s. The fact that the British people have now been liberated in this regard can therefore surely only be regarded as a good thing for all concerned – particularly as so many of the immigrants and their descendents are now re-locating back to their own countries where they will undoubtedly be far happier and feel more at home.
The second development has been the fact that it now appears “trendy” to have supported Brexit – indeed it seems very difficult to find many people who now openly admit to have voted to Remain! The most pro-EU party, the Liberal Democrats, continue to languish in the opinion polls in spite of the fact that the Labour Party is currently in such complete disarray, and despite the fact that many commentators predicted that as their main aim had been accomplished UKIP would simply wither away, their support under their new leadership has actually been rising! But it is with the governing Conservative Party where this new pro-Brexit energizing has been most noticeable and important however. Although Prime Minister Theresa May supported the Remain side at the Referendum (albeit only luke-warmly) she has now emphatically stated “Brexit means Brexit”, and clearly means it – and 90 to 95% of the Conservative Party have swung into line behind her! The doom-mongering Remainians who predicted economic collapse and disaster immediately following the Brexit vote have been proved to be catastrophically wrong, and most of them have now simply shut up and sulked away into a corner – from where they will probably emerge in a few years time claiming that they secretly supported Brexit all along!
The final development has been that the defiant spirit of Brexit has now spread beyond Britain’s borders, not only to other European nation-states still trapped within the EU, but also to the wider Western world. Already terms such as “Frexit” and “Nexit” etc. have been termed as opinion polls show that the majority of citizens in both France and the Netherlands etc. now favour leaving the EU (indeed the word “Frexit” was seen painted on the road at several places during this year’s Tour de France!). The euphoria of Brexit has furthermore removed the ongoing Greek financial crisis from the international media spotlight, but it is actually continuing unabated, and with one of the main cash-cows keeping the Greek economy afloat soon to leave the EU it means that “Grexit” – at least from the Euro currency – now appears even more inevitable. Meanwhile the current Hungarian government is defiantly opposing the German-inspired mass invasion of the European continent by swarms of Third World migrants, and as a result may be forced out of the EU (which of course will probably be welcomed by the majority of Hungarian people!). This same spirit of national re-assertion is manifesting itself elsewhere around the globe however. As we have observed in the past, the New Zealanders’ decision to retain their true national flag in the Referendum of 24th March of this year can be viewed as the “morning star” of the Brexit triumph, but it is to the United States where perhaps the most encouraging development of this magic year of 2016 may occur. Although just a few months ago a victory for Donald J. Trump in the US Presidential Election seemed impossible, it is now looking increasingly likely – and the invocation of the spirit of Brexit (erstwhile UKIP leader Nigel Farage has already spoken on an official Trump election platform!) has clearly been a major contributing factor for this.
If Donald J. Trump is victorious in November, and if this can then be followed next year by a victory for Marie le Pen in the French Presidential Election (something again which just a few months ago was considered impossible, but is now seeming to be within the bounds of possibility), then quite clearly we will shortly be living in a far different – and far better – world than as recently as 2015! The days ahead will inspire us.

THE RIO OLYMPIC AND PARALYMPIC GAMES
Since writing last month’s SCN the 2016 Rio Paralympic Games have taken place, and just as was the case with the earlier Rio Olympic Games they proved to be a great success, and all those pathetic doom-mongers who predicted that there would not be sufficient funds to stage them and that attendances would be poor were proved categorically wrong! For Britain the outstanding triumphs of the 2016 Olympics continued – and indeed were increased on – in the Paralympics, and our hearty congratulations are of course extended to all the worthy British medal winners. The only objection which we have about Britain’s participation concerns those selected as flag-carriers at the respective opening and closing ceremonies. Of these four nominees two were openly-admitted sexual perverts. What an absolutely appalling example to set to the youth of Britain – and indeed to the youth of the world! We therefore call upon those responsible for these disgusting selections to be dismissed and to be barred from all future participation in Olympic and Paralympic ceremonies.

THE EMPIRE GOES FOR GOLD!
Heather Wheeler, the Conservative MP for South Derbyshire, issued an excellent tweet following the Rio Olympics, in which she drew attention to the fact that sportsmen and women from Great Britain and from the former and current countries of the British Empire won more medals at the 2016 Games than both “the Post-Brexit EU” and “the Rest of the World”! Headlined “Empire Goes for Gold”, Ms. Wheeler listed the number of medals won by GB and the Empire (396) against those won by the post-Brexit EU (258) and the Rest of the World (320), and then went on to state “Now that’s what I call winning! Well done Team GB and our Commonwealth friends; now for the trade agreements”. Predictably this tweet met with odium from yesterday’s men and women of the “politically correct brigade” (still smarting after their crushing defeat in the EU Referendum!), but we – and of course the vast majority of British people around the globe – fully support these positive sentiments so splendidly expressed by Ms. Wheeler. She is certainly a person to watch out for in the future, and we trust will soon obtain a higher government position!

THE “GOOD” TERRORIST
On 27th August Channel 4 aired a documentary entitled “The Good Terrorist” which told the story of the evil White ANC terrorist John Harris who constructed and planted the bomb which killed Ethel Rhys and badly injured several other people at Johannesburg Central Station in 1964.
In spite of its most offensive title, this documentary did a great service by reminding everyone about this criminal atrocity, and the fact that terrorist activity in South Africa during this time actually involved more White traitors than Black malcontents (the vast majority of Blacks of course lived perfectly happily under civilised White rule – far more happily indeed than most do today under ANC rule!). Harris is a mainly forgotten person today, but his name should always be remembered in ignominy. He was revealed as a truly evil entity – he even looked evil (though to be fair perhaps Channel 4 deliberately chose the worst available pictures of him!) - with a clear self-loathing which manifested itself in hatred for his own kith and kin. Thanks to the efficiency of the SAP he was speedily arrested, and rightfully was hanged for his act of terrorist murder. It was also most significant that this Channel 4 documentary had no qualms about reminding everyone that the notorious trouble-maker Peter Hain knew Harris personally, and indeed read the oration at this terrorist vermin’s funeral. Surely there is still time for Hain’s association with this satanic creature to be investigated further, and to be brought to book if any direct involvement with terrorism can be confirmed?
We also couldn’t help wondering what a far better place South Africa would be today – and indeed what a far better place the world as a whole would be now – if Harris’s fellow ANC terrorist murderer “Nelson” Mandela had been sentenced to the same rightful punishment as Harris for his evil crimes.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.214 – Miss DIANE BLEASDALE of Rhodesia and Durban
Diane “Di” Bleasdale was Rhodesian-born, but moved to Durban where she became a high-flying secretary with the Unilever company during the late 1970s. A very attractive woman, she initially showed great interest in the work of the Save Rhodesia Campaign (a number of whose leading local members worked for the Unilever organization), but alas she never became active in any way within the campaign, and indeed became inexplicably “cool” towards one of the leading members. Instead she seemed to devote her considerable energies and talents to the “Rotaract” organization (the junior wing of the international Rotary Clubs). Subsequently it came to light that her parents had been killed in a terrorist atrocity in Rhodesia, and this might well explain why she decided to turn her back on the Save Rhodesia Campaign and instead devote herself to the non-political “Rotaract” organisation. Even so we would be very interested to learn whatever happened to her, and where she is now.

OUT OF THE MOUTH ….
Sir,
I am well aware that Muhammad Ali's views on what can term race in the 1960s and 1970s earned him the approbation of segregationists in Britain and the US; indeed, in 1972 he said of the South African government that "they believe in the same thing I do - segregation."
However, I see no reason to condemn him. He made the eminently sensible statement that "I don't believe in forcing integration. I don't want to go where I'm not wanted."
Forced integration is no more acceptable than forced segregation. It is a question of freedom of association. I wish that the illiberal liberals behind such things as the legalised kidnapping of forced bussing due to their obsession with a "proper racial balance" had had as much sense as the now late and lamented Mr.Ali.

I’ve been doing a bit of investigation and see that Ms.Dalgleish was involved in a previous controversy with someone named Griffin when she was sexually harassed by the leader of the BNP, Nick Griffin :-

OBITUARY
BRIAN VERNON BAKER
Alas life did not deal Brian Vernon Baker, who sadly died earlier this year at the age of only 66, a very good hand of cards. His mother died within 25 minutes of his birth, and he was involved in a road accident when aged only 10.
Whilst at junior school he sat in their South Africa House, and his father Charlie Baker, an inspector of shipwrights at Chatham Dockyard, carved a superlative plaque for the House featuring a Springbok superimposed on a wooden map of the whole of Africa! Although even by his own admission he was not academically brilliant, he was even so a skilled writer and story-teller, and his Friday afternoon stories which he regularly composed and delivered at junior school proved more popular than those of anybody else.
Unfortunately he didn’t receive very good career advice at school, and left aged 16 to join the Post Office, which subsequently metamorphosised into British Telecom and then BT, where he stayed until he took premature retirement. During his time with BT he was seconded twice to India in order to assist their local subsidiary. As a result of his time in India he wrote a brilliant and most amusing book about his experiences, but alas in spite of much trying he wasn’t able to get it published.
Brian was a staunch British patriot, and proudly served with the Royal Naval Reserve. He also expressed interest in the work of the Springbok Club, but alas was only able to attend one of the organisation’s activities, a trip to the Royal Engineers’ Museum and re-enactment display in Gillingham, as failing health and his distance from London prevented further participation. Although never very sporting, he did take up both rifle-shooting and croquet with a relish whilst serving in the RNR. His main passion in life, however, was nature (he was a keen lifelong animal lover) and in his retirement served as a leading official supervising the Beregrave Nature Reserve in Rainham.
Happily Brian did enjoy one positive aspect of life, as he was blessed with a wonderful charming wife, Rhona, who bore him two children. Sadly however bad fortune struck him again towards the end of his life, for Rhona died a sudden and unexpected death a year before his own tragic death, which came after a long and debilitating illness.
Brian Baker was a great man who served his country well to the best of his abilities. Alas however his country often seemed to fail him. Our sincerest condolences are extended to his two children.

Everyone knew that London 2012 would be a very hard act to follow, and there were many doomsayers who predicted that the 2016 Rio Olympic Games would prove to be a disaster. Some even went as far as to advocate that the Games be cancelled (though don’t forget that there were also similar unpatriotic killjoys who treacherously said the same about the London 2012 Games – as we commented about at the time!), but in the end all these dire predictions turned out to be false, and Rio de Janeiro produced a most spectacular and memorable Olympiad. To be sure, there were a few problems, most notably poor attendances and a number of administrative and broadcasting hiccups, but the Rio Games in no way proved the disaster of Montreal 1976, nor even the anti-climaxes of Seoul 1988, Atlanta 1996 and Athens 2004.
On the whole Rio 2016 lived up to the original Olympic ideals of Baron Pierre de Coubertin and Dr. William Brookes – albeit on a more global scale and in the current age of professionalism. Eddie Butler, the BBC commentator, pontificated in an opening broadcast that the early Olympics were a purely White male affair. This assertion of his was manifestly untrue however, as women competed in both Lawn Tennis and Golf at the second ever Olympics in Paris 1900, and have been present ever since, and the first Black to compete at the Olympics was a French competitor at Paris 1900 (although it is believed that an Egyptian and a Turk competed at Athens 1896). The presence of non-Whites was however a matter of increasing controversy during early years, as many argued that Negroes possessed innate physical advantages. This debate became most intense shortly prior to the 1936 Berlin Olympics when it was seriously advocated that there should be separate Olympics for Westerners, Africans and Orientals (indeed we argued this ourselves in an article which appeared in S.A.Patriot No.24). Alas the international knee-jerk reaction to the evils of the Nazi regime made such a racially-based idea unthinkable following WWII. Be this as it may, it has been clearly noticeable that the increasing ascendancy of Black and Oriental competitors during the 1960s and 1970s subsequently flattened-out, and indeed during the latest two Olympiads has started to decline. Perhaps therefore such a logical development of staging separate Olympics for the three main ethnic groups will eventually come to fruition later this century.
For the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team the Rio 2016 Olympics proved an unqualified triumph. Not only did the total number of medals won, 67, surpass even London 2012’s total of 65 (and indeed was the second highest total ever, after London 1908) but furthermore, although the number of their Gold medals declined on the face of it from 29 to 27, two less of these were won by “plastic Brits”, so the number won by true Britons therefore remained the same! It has often been argued – and we certainly agree – that the triumphant achievements and “feel-good effect” which resulted from the London 2012 Olympics was one of the main contributing factors which gave the British people the self-confidence to vote to Leave the EU at the 2016 Referendum. We would actually go further than this and assert that the euphoria generated by the “Brexit” victory was one of the main reasons why the GB & NI team performed so confidently and triumphantly at Rio. Donald Trump aims to make America great again – but 2016 has shown that Britain already is Great again!
For South Africa, however, Rio 2016 simply confirmed yet again the extent of the decline of the “new” South Africa. Of the only two Gold medals which they claimed one was obtained by the most novel expedient of fielding a man in a women’s event, and the other, that of Wayde van Niekerk, has evidently been condemned by certain ANC supporters because his mother achieved athletic prowess through the infrastructure and facilities provided by the former NP Government! In the days of civilized rule South Africa was of course a sporting super-power on a par with Australia. Today such a comparison is laughable, and can only be revived once civilized rule is restored to the nation as a whole.
But for Brazil itself the 2016 Games must have the happiest memories. For a nation beset by economic woes and endemic corruption in government they were not only an uplifting distraction, but also produced the highest level of Olympic success ever for the nation (a total of 19 medals, including 7 Golds). Brazil of course was a Portuguese colony up until 1822, and from then until well into the 20th Century could be regarded – using modern parlance – as a first-world country. Sadly as the 20th Century progressed multi-culturalism also increased (slavery wasn’t abolished in Brazil until 1888), and as a result the county declined economically, socially and as far as law and order was concerned. Today therefore Brazil can no longer be regarded as a first-world nation – perhaps not quite as bad as the third-world basket-cases of Africa and Asia, but sadly seemingly heading in that direction. Watching the 2016 Olympics, however, it was noticeable how many White faces were in evidence, maybe not so much among the competitors themselves, but certainly among officials and spectators. Brazil therefore still has the potential to rejoin the civilized first-world nations around the globe. The Caetano government of Portugal during the early 1970s enthusiastically tried to establish a Lusitanian Commonwealth, which would basically have been an alliance between the two great Portuguese speaking nations of the world. Perhaps, if “Pexit” can ever come about, such an idea can be resuscitated, with Portuguese input and assistance helping to restore the fortunes of the Brazilian nation after decades of political corruption and decline. Viva Portugal – Viva Brasil!

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
Alas the Springbok Club’s problematic year continued last month. Regrettably the organisation’s planned guest speaker for August, Mr. Johnny Rodrigues of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, was taken ill during his overseas tour, and as a result the meeting which he was to have address had to be postponed. We say postponed rather than cancelled because during a ‘phone conversation towards the end of his trip, by which time he had happily made a fine recovery, he informed us that he would be visiting the UK again next year during a follow-up overseas tour, and confirmed that he definitely hoped to speak for the organization again then.
Unfortunately also contact with the global yachtsman who it was anticipated would address the Kent Branch of the Springbok Club last month was lost (no doubt he has been away on his travels again!), but needless to say once contact has been re-established we hope that an informal gathering for him to tell the Branch a bit about his journeys to Britain’s overseas territories and other places in the Caribbean will be re-planned.

In view of these recent unavoidable problems it therefore seems more important than ever that a good contingent of Springbok Club members and supporters attend the annual Raising of the Flag Memorial Gathering in Norfolk (celebrating the day when Southern Rhodesia, “The Jewel of the Crown”, was founded), to which the organization has again been most honoured to be invited to participate in. The details of this year’s event are as follows :-

Times : Gathering to commence with a convivial buffet meal and drinks at 12.00 hrs, actual flag-raising ceremony to commence at 14.30 hrs
Venue : SOUTHREPPS HALL, Southrepps, Norfolk, NR11 8TG
This event celebrates the founding of Rhodesia by the raising of the Union Flag at what became Salisbury on 13th September 1890. This event was re-enacted every year thereafter at Cecil Square, Salisbury, until the advent of the ZANU-PF regime in 1980. Thereafter, however, it has continued to be re-enacted in the grounds of Southrepps Hall in Norfolk. As well as the re-enactment of the raising of the Union Flag this event will also include speeches about Cecil John Rhodes and Rhodesia, a short religious service, the playing of both the British and the Rhodesian national anthems by the Cromer and Sheringham Brass Band, and the firing of a 21-gun salute. Buffet food and drinks will be served to all attendees prior to the main event, and teas and light refreshments afterwards.
We hope that as many Springbok Club members and supporters as possible will be able to journey to Norfolk to attend this most inspiring and uplifting ceremony. Southrepps Hall is situated not far from Cromer, where overnight accommodation can always be arranged. SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
As reported in last month’s SCN, the Swinton Circle was successfully re-established at a meeting in June, and plans are now well afoot to stage a re-launch meeting in the form of an Autumn Buffet featuring a prominent personality from the “Vote Leave”” campaign in October. Unfortunately, however, it must be reported that Mr. Paul Griffin, the former Committee member of the Swinton Circle who revealed himself as being a far-Right infiltrator whose aim was either to destroy or to take over the organization on behalf of extremist elements, has been up to his dirty tricks again. As most readers will probably recall, following the disruption and wrecking of the disastrous Swinton Circle meeting of 31st July 2015 Mr. Griffin made contact with another Committee member of the organisation, Mr. Paul Symons, and induced him also to resign his membership. It is uncertain whether Mr. Griffin did this by smearing and bad-mouthing other Committee members of the Swinton Circle, or simply by putting the “frighteners” on Mr. Symons. Now alas comes news that two leading members of the Springbok Club have resigned following apparent similar advances made by Mr. Griffin. As the Springbok Club is not a political organization and has no direct connection to the Swinton Circle, we therefore wonder just what Mr. Griffin’s game is. Needless to say we would be very interested to learn precisely what Mr. Griffin has been saying in order to induce leading members to leave the two organizations, for if his words turn out to be slanderous then he will certainly be hearing from our lawyers. Needless to say, any information which can be provided in this respect will be treated with utmost confidence.

APPEAL FROM “NETWORK FOR ANIMALS”
We have recently received the following appeal for help from the Network for Animals organisation :-
“Two years ago Gail Basson sold her house and together with Shireen Williams bought a desolate piece of land in South Africa and formed Fallen Angels, a search and rescue mission for injured and abandoned dogs and cats.
“Today Fallen Angels is home to 255 dogs and 40 sick cats. Dogs like Jagger, who was bred as a fighting dog. When he became sick, a vicious thug threw acid over his face, blinding him in one eye and leaving huge wounds on his face. Then the monster cut off Jagger’s ears.
“Fallen Angels rescued Jagger, paid for his medical care and gave him refuge in their sanctuary. Jagger is one of hundreds of dogs that Fallen Angels has rescued in its short existence. People who spot an injured, abandoned dog or cat call Fallen Angels and no matter what time, day or night, Shireen and her team go and rescue them in a huge area around Melkbosstrand in South Africa’s Western Cape. They take them to the sanctuary, feed and provide medical care, love and pamper them and wherever possible find them homes.
“To the dogs and cats who find themselves in Fallen Angels, Shireen and her team are saints and the dogs reward them by showing their love in wagging tails and happy barks. Shireen and her team do all this for love of the animals. None of them draw salaries. Their lives are devoted to animals.
“They ask nothing for themselves but what they need desperately is a vehicle. They have no car of their own and rely on volunteers with cars to come to the aid of the dogs and cats in need. But sometimes in the early hours of the morning no volunteer can be found. So Fallen Angels has been saving to buy a pick-up truck with a canopy that can be based at the sanctuary and used to rescue animals no matter what the time is.
“Fallen Angels is doing tremendous work on a shoe-string budget led by a determined team and backed by volunteers, many from local schools.
“Will you help Network for Animals help the Fallen Angels? Network has promised to ask our supporters to make a donation and be as generous as you can today, not only to help buy a rescue vehicle, but provide food and medical care for the dogs and cats of Fallen Angels.

DRAMATIC DEVELOPMENTS CONCERNING THE 1995 RUGBY WORLD CUP
Ever since the final of the 1995 Rugby World Cup in the “new” South Africa rumours have abounded that the mysterious last-minute illnesses experienced by several members of the All Blacks team were the result of deliberate poisoning. Although invariably dismissed by the pro-ANC Left as an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory, a recently-published book written by a very unlikely person, namely a certain Rory Steyn who acted as a bodyguard to the terrorist leader Mandela at that time, asserts that the deliberate poisoning theory was in fact true! Although Steyn intimates that this poisoning was arranged at the behest of a Far Eastern betting-syndicate, all the circumstantial evidence seems to indicate that it was in fact ordered by the “new” South African authorities who wished to portray the terrorist Mandela in a good light, and thereby to entrench his grip on power. We therefore call upon the International Rugby Football Board (World Rugby) to investigate the matter thoroughly, and if, as seems likely, it is confirmed that deliberate poisoning did take place (for whatever reason) to annul the result of the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

REVEALING REPORT FROM HNP

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.213 – Mr. DON GILLIAT of Durban
Don Gilliat was a leading member of The Sons of England, a patriotic organization for those specifically of English descent. He lived in Durban North and was a most friendly and affable man, and in 1988 gave a masterful speech to the Durban Parliamentary Debating Society about the history of the South African flag and why it was so important that its design should not be altered in any way, bringing with him a younger colleague from The Sons of England by the name of Mike Smith (no connection of course to the notorious Mike “Scruffy” Keith-Smith!). So impressed were we by the talk which Don Gilliat gave (which of course subsequently proved extremely relevant!) that it was re-printed in S.A.Patriot-in-Exile No.31. The Sons of England organization had evidently originated in Canada during the 19th Century, but had then spread to South Africa and Rhodesia where it gained greater support. Unfortunately our contact with this estimable body came somewhat too late, for we were forced to relocate operations to the UK very shortly after initial contact had been made, and before our movement could establish any firm links with them. Subsequent attempts to initiate long-distance communication with them have also alas failed, as it appears that the organization has floundered under the conditions of the “new” South Africa We would therefore be very keen to learn not only what has happened to Don Gilliat and Mike Smith personally, but also any news about The Sons of England as an organisation.

TREASON’S TOLL
Sir,
There was absolutely no justification for the Easter Rising of 1916. The Irish had full democratic rights and were if anything over-represented in the British Parliament. To rise against a democratic government which you're free to oppose, especially in wartime, is treason and deserves the death penalty. I would have been inclined to have the seven leaders hanged - not shot - for treason and murder and the rest given life sentences and left to rot in jail for decades, whether or not people were daft enough to elect them as MPs.
As for Partition - if Ireland had the right to secede from the UK, a part of it had the right to secede from Ireland and stay British. Looking at the history of post-partition Ireland, they'd have all been a lot better off as part of Britain rather than in what was for decades the most socially backward democracy in Western Europe.

“THE ROPER SET”
A number of readers have enquired in the past about what actually was “The Roper Set”, which has often been mentioned in the write-ups of those featured in our “Where are they now?” section.
“The Roper Set” was a celebrated ad hoc social grouping which was active in Durban during the 1970s and 80s, and was often compared to “The Happy Valley Set” which operated in Kenya during the 1920s and 30s – though without the adulterous excesses! Named after Paul Roper (see SCN April 2001), a 5 foot 2 inches only child from Bournemouth in the UK who had been blessed with charisma-plus, “The Roper Set” operated out of three successive communal houses, the first in Glenashley, Durban North, then on Blair Atholl Road, Westville, and finally in Glen Anil, Durban North. There were a succession of people who lived in these communal houses, though of course always including Paul Roper himself. During the final years at Glenashley during the late 1970s the other residents had however stabilised to Jean “Mumsy” Clements, Dawn Dorkin and John “Mr.Pastry” Hartnall. Shortly before the move to Westville Dawn Dorkin decided to move into her own plush flat in the Albert Park area (though she remained a leading figure in “The Set” itself), but this turned out to be very fortuitous as one existing residents at the new house, James “Jesse” Kinnell, didn’t wish to leave, and as a result became a keen addition to “The Set” himself.
People gravitated to Paul Roper and “The Roper Set” as if magnetized, with each weekend proving an “open house” which saw dozens of “members” turning up in order to partake of the idyllic atmosphere and joyful camaraderie. The main centre of activities was always in and around the swimming pool (there was one at all three venues), and an unofficial bar was constantly in operation, and always well stocked with an abundance of bottles of Lions and Castles! Most Sunday evenings saw “The Set” encamp to The Bell Inn, Durban North (then under the management of two other “members”, Tony and Elaine Long – although they subsequently moved on to manage Durban Collegians Club, another venue regularly patronized by “The Set”) where all partook of a very late Sunday “lunch”, which was invariably followed by a film show for all diners.
Most “members” of “The Set” were not South Africans however (certainly not most of the men), but were first-generation Pommie immigrants. “The Set” was also not overtly political (although it did include several of those involved with the publishing of S.A.Patriot), but as it functioned during the time of civilized rule in South Africa when the country was demonized by the Liberal/Left around the world, even to emigrate to the country at that time clearly meant making a political statement in favour of the existing status quo. All however were “gut patriots” in both the South African and British contexts, and during one trip which Paul Roper organized in a hired coach to the Wild Coast Casino at the time of the Falklands War the whole bus reverberated with patriotic songs for most of the journey!
Alas “The Set” was often condemned as being purely “hedonistic” by several members of the “religious Right” in Durban (the “Willmerites”), but this criticism was grossly unfair. All “members” tended to work hard and to play hard. Jean Clements ran her own hairdressing salon and was once a South African champion hairdresser, Dawn Dorkin ran her own hugely successful debt-collecting agency, John “Pastry” was a highly qualified accountant who was “head-hunted” on several occasions, Tony Welch was a popular and top professional dentist practicing on The Bluff, and Paul Roper himself was a massively successful sales rep’ (travelling in ladies underwear - a description which often caused much amusement!) whose earnings were sufficient not only to keep the successive communal houses functioning, but also to buy himself a top-of-the-range Mercedes. Practically all of the male “members” of “The Set” were also leading sportsmen. Paul Roper had once won Currie Cup Soccer colours playing for The Transvaal, and seemed unbeatable in practically every ball-game which he turned his hand to. Several “members” played Soccer for Durban Collegians, and many regularly competed in the Comrades Marathon, with Keith Hulse once recording a time fast enough to gain a silver medal - and Paul Roper invariably finishing wearing a pair of ladies panties on his head! Alan Mountford, originally from Stoke-on-Trent and one of the leading “members” of “The Set”, was a fantastic all-round sportsman, excelling at Soccer and Lawn Tennis and even turning his hand to show-jumping, and his younger brother Peter once achieved the incredible performance of finishing in the top ten in the Duzi Canoe Marathon!
During the early 1980s Paul Roper staged amazing fancy dress parties to celebrate his birthday three years running – the final two of which involved hiring a coach and making a “pub crawl” with all attendees in full fancy dress to all of the hotels in the popular Gooderson’s chain around the city! Another regular feature when resident in Westville (where as well as a large swimming pool the house also contained a Lawn Tennis court) was the Blair Athol Grant Lawn Tennis Tournament (neatly combining the name of the road where it was situated with the name of S.A.Patriot’s sports correspondent). This consisted of eight pairs of doubles split into two leagues, with each pair playing all the others in each group over five games, which were played in full regardless of the score. The only snag was that after each game the winning pair (not the losers) had to drink a glass of champagne and orange juice each! The top two in each group then advanced to the semi-finals which consisting of a full set (winners of one group playing the runners-up in the other) with again a glass of champagne and orange juice having to be drunk after each game by the winners. The two winning teams then took part in the final – though this time without any champagne requirement! Paul Roper inevitable won this tournament (regardless of his partner), with Tony Welch seemingly equally inevitably being runner-up. These fantastic days of entertainment didn’t consist only of the tournament itself however. A book was made on the tournament result, and after the final a sumptuous braai was staged where drinks flowed freely, and with even a humourous poem being composed and read celebrating the day’s proceedings!
Unfortunately towards the end of the 1980s, as South Africa started to collapse under the sellout NP government, the activities of “The Roper Set” also started to decline. Paul Roper himself surprised everybody by eventually getting married (he had had a succession of most beautiful girlfriends throughout the years when “The Set” was at its height) and fathered a son. Once the final surrender to the ANC terrorists seemed inevitable, however, the majority of the “members” returned to the UK or onwardly re-emigrated (Tony Welch and “Big Hearted” Billy McCall apparently went to Australia and “Pinetown Pete” Jefferson-Green is believed to have gone to Canada), and sadly all subsequent attempts to re-contact leading members have proved unsuccessful.
Although not overtly political, “The Roper Set” provided one most vital source of strength for the patriotic movement in Durban. It provided a happy and exhilarating “home from home” where patriotic activists could relax and unwind, and thereby re-charge their batteries ready for more hard campaigning in the days ahead. This was something which the boring, moaning killjoys of the “religious Right” – the “Willmerites” – could never provide!
But “The Roper Set” also did something else far more long-term. It provided a “golden vision” of what Western men and women could still achieve even throughout the dark days of the second half of the 20th Century. Those who were “members” of “The Set” were of course of the same blood and DNA as those who three-quarters of a century earlier had created the greatest Empire which the world had ever seen. They were a continuum of the best virtues of “The Happy Valley Set”, though without its main faults. It would not be an exaggeration to state that “The Roper Set” fully epitomized Nietzsche’s Superman..
Perhaps most importantly, however, is the manner in which the glorious memory which those halcyon days continues to inspire the more politically-motivated of the “members”. In the adventurous and self-confident atmosphere of South Africa during the 1970s and 80s “The Roper Set” provided a lifestyle and spirit of joie de vivre which simply couldn’t be contemplated in their British homeland of that time. It is however a self-confident spirit which we detect is now at last re-emerging in Britain again after half-a-century of slumber – as the “Brexit” triumph and the glorious achievements at the Rio Olympics seem to indicate!

Everyone knew that London 2012 would be a very hard act to follow, and there were many doomsayers who predicted that the 2016 Rio Olympic Games would prove to be a disaster. Some even went as far as to advocate that the Games be cancelled (though don’t forget that there were also similar unpatriotic killjoys who treacherously said the same about the London 2012 Games – as we commented about at the time!), but in the end all these dire predictions turned out to be false, and Rio de Janeiro produced a most spectacular and memorable Olympiad. To be sure, there were a few problems, most notably poor attendances and a number of administrative and broadcasting hiccups, but the Rio Games in no way proved the disaster of Montreal 1976, nor even the anti-climaxes of Seoul 1988, Atlanta 1996 and Athens 2004.
On the whole Rio 2016 lived up to the original Olympic ideals of Baron Pierre de Coubertin and Dr. William Brookes – albeit on a more global scale and in the current age of professionalism. Eddie Butler, the BBC commentator, pontificated in an opening broadcast that the early Olympics were a purely White male affair. This assertion of his was manifestly untrue however, as women competed in both Lawn Tennis and Golf at the second ever Olympics in Paris 1900, and have been present ever since, and the first Black to compete at the Olympics was a French competitor at Paris 1900 (although it is believed that an Egyptian and a Turk competed at Athens 1896). The presence of non-Whites was however a matter of increasing controversy during early years, as many argued that Negroes possessed innate physical advantages. This debate became most intense shortly prior to the 1936 Berlin Olympics when it was seriously advocated that there should be separate Olympics for Westerners, Africans and Orientals (indeed we argued this ourselves in an article which appeared in S.A.Patriot No.24). Alas the international knee-jerk reaction to the evils of the Nazi regime made such a racially-based idea unthinkable following WWII. Be this as it may, it has been clearly noticeable that the increasing ascendancy of Black and Oriental competitors during the 1960s and 1970s subsequently flattened-out, and indeed during the latest two Olympiads has started to decline. Perhaps therefore such a logical development of staging separate Olympics for the three main ethnic groups will eventually come to fruition later this century.
For the Great Britain and Northern Ireland team the Rio 2016 Olympics proved an unqualified triumph. Not only did the total number of medals won, 67, surpass even London 2012’s total of 65 (and indeed was the second highest total ever, after London 1908) but furthermore, although the number of their Gold medals declined on the face of it from 29 to 27, two less of these were won by “plastic Brits”, so the number won by true Britons therefore remained the same! It has often been argued – and we certainly agree – that the triumphant achievements and “feel-good effect” which resulted from the London 2012 Olympics was one of the main contributing factors which gave the British people the self-confidence to vote to Leave the EU at the 2016 Referendum. We would actually go further than this and assert that the euphoria generated by the “Brexit” victory was one of the main reasons why the GB & NI team performed so confidently and triumphantly at Rio. Donald Trump aims to make America great again – but 2016 has shown that Britain already is Great again!
For South Africa, however, Rio 2016 simply confirmed yet again the extent of the decline of the “new” South Africa. Of the only two Gold medals which they claimed one was obtained by the most novel expedient of fielding a man in a women’s event, and the other, that of Wayde van Niekerk, has evidently been condemned by certain ANC supporters because his mother achieved athletic prowess through the infrastructure and facilities provided by the former NP Government! In the days of civilized rule South Africa was of course a sporting super-power on a par with Australia. Today such a comparison is laughable, and can only be revived once civilized rule is restored to the nation as a whole.
But for Brazil itself the 2016 Games must have the happiest memories. For a nation beset by economic woes and endemic corruption in government they were not only an uplifting distraction, but also produced the highest level of Olympic success ever for the nation (a total of 19 medals, including 7 Golds). Brazil of course was a Portuguese colony up until 1822, and from then until well into the 20th Century could be regarded – using modern parlance – as a first-world country. Sadly as the 20th Century progressed multi-culturalism also increased (slavery wasn’t abolished in Brazil until 1888), and as a result the county declined economically, socially and as far as law and order was concerned. Today therefore Brazil can no longer be regarded as a first-world nation – perhaps not quite as bad as the third-world basket-cases of Africa and Asia, but sadly seemingly heading in that direction. Watching the 2016 Olympics, however, it was noticeable how many White faces were in evidence, maybe not so much among the competitors themselves, but certainly among officials and spectators. Brazil therefore still has the potential to rejoin the civilized first-world nations around the globe. The Caetano government of Portugal during the early 1970s enthusiastically tried to establish a Lusitanian Commonwealth, which would basically have been an alliance between the two great Portuguese speaking nations of the world. Perhaps, if “Pexit” can ever come about, such an idea can be resuscitated, with Portuguese input and assistance helping to restore the fortunes of the Brazilian nation after decades of political corruption and decline. Viva Portugal – Viva Brasil!

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
Alas the Springbok Club’s problematic year continued last month. Regrettably the organisation’s planned guest speaker for August, Mr. Johnny Rodrigues of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force, was taken ill during his overseas tour, and as a result the meeting which he was to have address had to be postponed. We say postponed rather than cancelled because during a ‘phone conversation towards the end of his trip, by which time he had happily made a fine recovery, he informed us that he would be visiting the UK again next year during a follow-up overseas tour, and confirmed that he definitely hoped to speak for the organization again then.
Unfortunately also contact with the global yachtsman who it was anticipated would address the Kent Branch of the Springbok Club last month was lost (no doubt he has been away on his travels again!), but needless to say once contact has been re-established we hope that an informal gathering for him to tell the Branch a bit about his journeys to Britain’s overseas territories and other places in the Caribbean will be re-planned.

In view of these recent unavoidable problems it therefore seems more important than ever that a good contingent of Springbok Club members and supporters attend the annual Raising of the Flag Memorial Gathering in Norfolk (celebrating the day when Southern Rhodesia, “The Jewel of the Crown”, was founded), to which the organization has again been most honoured to be invited to participate in. This event celebrates the founding of Rhodesia by the raising of the Union Flag at what became Salisbury on 13th September 1890. This event was re-enacted every year thereafter at Cecil Square, Salisbury, until the advent of the ZANU-PF regime in 1980. Thereafter, however, it has continued to be re-enacted in the grounds of Southrepps Hall in Norfolk. As well as the re-enactment of the raising of the Union Flag this event will also include speeches about Cecil John Rhodes and Rhodesia, a short religious service, the playing of both the British and the Rhodesian national anthems by the Cromer and Sheringham Brass Band, and the firing of a 21-gun salute. Buffet food and drinks will be served to all attendees prior to the main event, and teas and light refreshments afterwards.
We hope that as many Springbok Club members and supporters as possible will be able to journey to Norfolk to attend this most inspiring and uplifting ceremony. Southrepps Hall is situated not far from Cromer, where overnight accommodation can always be arranged. Unfortunately, however, it must be reported that Mr. Paul Griffin, the former Committee member of the Swinton Circle who revealed himself as being a far-Right infiltrator whose aim was either to destroy or to take over the organization on behalf of extremist elements, has been up to his dirty tricks again. As most readers will probably recall, following the disruption and wrecking of the disastrous Swinton Circle meeting of 31st July 2015 Mr. Griffin made contact with another Committee member of the organisation, Mr. Paul Symons, and induced him also to resign his membership. It is uncertain whether Mr. Griffin did this by smearing and bad-mouthing other Committee members of the Swinton Circle, or simply by putting the “frighteners” on Mr. Symons. Now alas comes news that two leading members of the Springbok Club have resigned following apparent similar advances made by Mr. Griffin. As the Springbok Club is not a political organization and has no direct connection to the Swinton Circle, we therefore wonder just what Mr. Griffin’s game is. Needless to say we would be very interested to learn precisely what Mr. Griffin has been saying in order to induce leading members to leave the two organizations, for if his words turn out to be slanderous then he will certainly be hearing from our lawyers. Needless to say, any information which can be provided in this respect will be treated with utmost confidence.

APPEAL FROM “NETWORK FOR ANIMALS”
We have recently received the following appeal for help from the Network for Animals organisation :-
“Two years ago Gail Basson sold her house and together with Shireen Williams bought a desolate piece of land in South Africa and formed Fallen Angels, a search and rescue mission for injured and abandoned dogs and cats.
“Today Fallen Angels is home to 255 dogs and 40 sick cats. Dogs like Jagger, who was bred as a fighting dog. When he became sick, a vicious thug threw acid over his face, blinding him in one eye and leaving huge wounds on his face. Then the monster cut off Jagger’s ears.
“Fallen Angels rescued Jagger, paid for his medical care and gave him refuge in their sanctuary. Jagger is one of hundreds of dogs that Fallen Angels has rescued in its short existence. People who spot an injured, abandoned dog or cat call Fallen Angels and no matter what time, day or night, Shireen and her team go and rescue them in a huge area around Melkbosstrand in South Africa’s Western Cape. They take them to the sanctuary, feed and provide medical care, love and pamper them and wherever possible find them homes.
“To the dogs and cats who find themselves in Fallen Angels, Shireen and her team are saints and the dogs reward them by showing their love in wagging tails and happy barks. Shireen and her team do all this for love of the animals. None of them draw salaries. Their lives are devoted to animals.
“They ask nothing for themselves but what they need desperately is a vehicle. They have no car of their own and rely on volunteers with cars to come to the aid of the dogs and cats in need. But sometimes in the early hours of the morning no volunteer can be found. So Fallen Angels has been saving to buy a pick-up truck with a canopy that can be based at the sanctuary and used to rescue animals no matter what the time is.
“Fallen Angels is doing tremendous work on a shoe-string budget led by a determined team and backed by volunteers, many from local schools.
“Will you help Network for Animals help the Fallen Angels? Network has promised to ask our supporters to make a donation and be as generous as you can today, not only to help buy a rescue vehicle, but provide food and medical care for the dogs and cats of Fallen Angels.

DRAMATIC DEVELOPMENTS CONCERNING THE 1995 RUGBY WORLD CUP
Ever since the final of the 1995 Rugby World Cup in the “new” South Africa rumours have abounded that the mysterious last-minute illnesses experienced by several members of the All Blacks team were the result of deliberate poisoning. Although invariably dismissed by the pro-ANC Left as an unsubstantiated conspiracy theory, a recently-published book written by a very unlikely person, namely a certain Rory Steyn who acted as a bodyguard to the terrorist leader Mandela at that time, asserts that the deliberate poisoning theory was in fact true! Although Steyn intimates that this poisoning was arranged at the behest of a Far Eastern betting-syndicate, all the circumstantial evidence seems to indicate that it was in fact ordered by the “new” South African authorities who wished to portray the terrorist Mandela in a good light, and thereby to entrench his grip on power. Following the revelation that Lance Armstrong systematically took performance-enhancing drugs during his Cycling career, all of his victories in the Tour de France and other major competitions have been annulled. We believe, however, that the deliberately poisoning of your opponents is a far more serious crime than personal drug usage. We therefore call upon the International Rugby Football Board (World Rugby) to investigate the matter thoroughly, and if, as seems likely, it is confirmed that deliberate poisoning did take place (for whatever reason) to annul the result of the 1995 Rugby World Cup.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.213 – Mr. DON GILLIAT of Durban
Don Gilliat was a leading member of The Sons of England, a patriotic organization for those specifically of English descent. He lived in Durban North and was a most friendly and affable man, and in 1988 gave a masterful speech to the Durban Parliamentary Debating Society about the history of the South African flag and why it was so important that its design should not be altered in any way, bringing with him a younger colleague from The Sons of England by the name of Mike Smith (no connection of course to the notorious Mike “Scruffy” Keith-Smith!). So impressed were we by the talk which Don Gilliat gave (which of course subsequently proved extremely relevant!) that it was re-printed in S.A.Patriot-in-Exile No.31. The Sons of England organization had evidently originated in Canada during the 19th Century, but had then spread to South Africa and Rhodesia where it gained greater support. Unfortunately our contact with this estimable body came somewhat too late, for we were forced to relocate operations to the UK very shortly after initial contact had been made, and before our movement could establish any firm links with them. Subsequent attempts to initiate long-distance communication with them have also alas failed, as it appears that the organization has floundered under the conditions of the “new” South Africa We would therefore be very keen to learn not only what has happened to Don Gilliat and Mike Smith personally, but also any news about The Sons of England as an organisation.

TREASON’S TOLL
Sir,
There was absolutely no justification for the Easter Rising of 1916. The Irish had full democratic rights and were if anything over-represented in the British Parliament. To rise against a democratic government which you're free to oppose, especially in wartime, is treason and deserves the death penalty. I would have been inclined to have the seven leaders hanged - not shot - for treason and murder and the rest given life sentences and left to rot in jail for decades, whether or not people were daft enough to elect them as MPs.
As for Partition - if Ireland had the right to secede from the UK, a part of it had the right to secede from Ireland and stay British. Looking at the history of post-partition Ireland, they'd have all been a lot better off as part of Britain rather than in what was for decades the most socially backward democracy in Western Europe.

“THE ROPER SET”
A number of readers have enquired in the past about what actually was “The Roper Set”, which has often been mentioned in the write-ups of those featured in our “Where are they now?” section.
“The Roper Set” was a celebrated ad hoc social grouping which was active in Durban during the 1970s and 80s, and was often compared to “The Happy Valley Set” which operated in Kenya during the 1920s and 30s – though without the adulterous excesses! Named after Paul Roper (see SCN April 2001), a 5 foot 2 inches only child from Bournemouth in the UK who had been blessed with charisma-plus, “The Roper Set” operated out of three successive communal houses, the first in Glenashley, Durban North, then on Blair Atholl Road, Westville, and finally in Glen Anil, Durban North. There were a succession of people who lived in these communal houses, though of course always including Paul Roper himself. During the final years at Glenashley during the late 1970s the other residents had however stabilised to Jean “Mumsy” Clements, Dawn Dorkin and John “Mr.Pastry” Hartnall. Shortly before the move to Westville Dawn Dorkin decided to move into her own plush flat in the Albert Park area (though she remained a leading figure in “The Set” itself), but this turned out to be very fortuitous as one existing residents at the new house, James “Jesse” Kinnell, didn’t wish to leave, and as a result became a keen addition to “The Set” himself.
People gravitated to Paul Roper and “The Roper Set” as if magnetized, with each weekend proving an “open house” which saw dozens of “members” turning up in order to partake of the idyllic atmosphere and joyful camaraderie. The main centre of activities was always in and around the swimming pool (there was one at all three venues), and an unofficial bar was constantly in operation, and always well stocked with an abundance of bottles of Lions and Castles! Most Sunday evenings saw “The Set” encamp to The Bell Inn, Durban North (then under the management of two other “members”, Tony and Elaine Long – although they subsequently moved on to manage Durban Collegians Club, another venue regularly patronized by “The Set”) where all partook of a very late Sunday “lunch”, which was invariably followed by a film show for all diners.
Most “members” of “The Set” were not South Africans however (certainly not most of the men), but were first-generation Pommie immigrants. “The Set” was also not overtly political (although it did include several of those involved with the publishing of S.A.Patriot), but as it functioned during the time of civilized rule in South Africa when the country was demonized by the Liberal/Left around the world, even to emigrate to the country at that time clearly meant making a political statement in favour of the existing status quo. All however were “gut patriots” in both the South African and British contexts, and during one trip which Paul Roper organized in a hired coach to the Wild Coast Casino at the time of the Falklands War the whole bus reverberated with patriotic songs for most of the journey!
Alas “The Set” was often condemned as being purely “hedonistic” by several members of the “religious Right” in Durban (the “Willmerites”), but this criticism was grossly unfair. All “members” tended to work hard and to play hard. Jean Clements ran her own hairdressing salon and was once a South African champion hairdresser, Dawn Dorkin ran her own hugely successful debt-collecting agency, John “Pastry” was a highly qualified accountant who was “head-hunted” on several occasions, Tony Welch was a popular and top professional dentist practicing on The Bluff, and Paul Roper himself was a massively successful sales rep’ (travelling in ladies underwear - a description which often caused much amusement!) whose earnings were sufficient not only to keep the successive communal houses functioning, but also to buy himself a top-of-the-range Mercedes. Practically all of the male “members” of “The Set” were also leading sportsmen. Paul Roper had once won Currie Cup Soccer colours playing for The Transvaal, and seemed unbeatable in practically every ball-game which he turned his hand to. Several “members” played Soccer for Durban Collegians, and many regularly competed in the Comrades Marathon, with Keith Hulse once recording a time fast enough to gain a silver medal - and Paul Roper invariably finishing wearing a pair of ladies panties on his head! Alan Mountford, originally from Stoke-on-Trent and one of the leading “members” of “The Set”, was a fantastic all-round sportsman, excelling at Soccer and Lawn Tennis and even turning his hand to show-jumping, and his younger brother Peter once achieved the incredible performance of finishing in the top ten in the Duzi Canoe Marathon!
During the early 1980s Paul Roper staged amazing fancy dress parties to celebrate his birthday three years running – the final two of which involved hiring a coach and making a “pub crawl” with all attendees in full fancy dress to all of the hotels in the popular Gooderson’s chain around the city! Another regular feature when resident in Westville (where as well as a large swimming pool the house also contained a Lawn Tennis court) was the Blair Athol Grant Lawn Tennis Tournament (neatly combining the name of the road where it was situated with the name of S.A.Patriot’s sports correspondent). This consisted of eight pairs of doubles split into two leagues, with each pair playing all the others in each group over five games, which were played in full regardless of the score. The only snag was that after each game the winning pair (not the losers) had to drink a glass of champagne and orange juice each! The top two in each group then advanced to the semi-finals which consisting of a full set (winners of one group playing the runners-up in the other) with again a glass of champagne and orange juice having to be drunk after each game by the winners. The two winning teams then took part in the final – though this time without any champagne requirement! Paul Roper inevitable won this tournament (regardless of his partner), with Tony Welch seemingly equally inevitably being runner-up. These fantastic days of entertainment didn’t consist only of the tournament itself however. A book was made on the tournament result, and after the final a sumptuous braai was staged where drinks flowed freely, and with even a humourous poem being composed and read celebrating the day’s proceedings!
Unfortunately towards the end of the 1980s, as South Africa started to collapse under the sellout NP government, the activities of “The Roper Set” also started to decline. Paul Roper himself surprised everybody by eventually getting married (he had had a succession of most beautiful girlfriends throughout the years when “The Set” was at its height) and fathered a son. Once the final surrender to the ANC terrorists seemed inevitable, however, the majority of the “members” returned to the UK or onwardly re-emigrated (Tony Welch and “Big Hearted” Billy McCall apparently went to Australia and “Pinetown Pete” Jefferson-Green is believed to have gone to Canada), and sadly all subsequent attempts to re-contact leading members have proved unsuccessful.
Although not overtly political, “The Roper Set” provided one most vital source of strength for the patriotic movement in Durban. It provided a happy and exhilarating “home from home” where patriotic activists could relax and unwind, and thereby re-charge their batteries ready for more hard campaigning in the days ahead. This was something which the boring, moaning killjoys of the “religious Right” – the “Willmerites” – could never provide!
But “The Roper Set” also did something else far more long-term. It provided a “golden vision” of what Western men and women could still achieve even throughout the dark days of the second half of the 20th Century. Those who were “members” of “The Set” were of course of the same blood and DNA as those who three-quarters of a century earlier had created the greatest Empire which the world had ever seen. They were a continuum of the best virtues of “The Happy Valley Set”, though without its main faults. It would not be an exaggeration to state that “The Roper Set” fully epitomized Nietzsche’s Superman..
Perhaps most importantly, however, is the manner in which the glorious memory which those halcyon days continues to inspire the more politically-motivated of the “members”. In the adventurous and self-confident atmosphere of South Africa during the 1970s and 80s “The Roper Set” provided a lifestyle and spirit of joie de vivre which simply couldn’t be contemplated in their British homeland of that time. It is however a self-confident spirit which we detect is now at last re-emerging in Britain again after half-a-century of slumber – as the “Brexit” triumph and the glorious achievements at the Rio Olympics seem to indicate!

Often in the past we have been criticised for being too optimistic and over-confident about the future. The result the EU Referendum of 23rd June has shown however that our optimism and confidence regarding the future of the British nation and peoples has been well founded!
Not only was the result of the Referendum most exciting and inspiring in itself, but the incredible rapid aftermaths only added to this sense of exhilaration. The first of these was of course the speedy resignation of David Cameron (and of course David Cameron must be congratulated upon fulfilling his election promise by holding the Referendum, and then for doing the honorable thing by resigning immediately after the result contrary to his own personal position became known. History will undoubtedly judge him kindly). This of course was followed by the installation of Theresa May’s government pledged to ensuring that “Brexit means Brexit”, and then by massive convulsions within the Labour Party meaning that this retrograde party will almost certainly now split in two, and hopefully then be consigned to the dustbin of history. Even more encouraging have been the increases in active opposition to unrestricted immigration voiced by so many British citizens, who alas had previously been so cowered by the constraints of “political correctness”.
Two aspects of the Referendum have worried us deeply however, Firstly we were dumbfounded by the fact that in Gibraltar the result went so catastrophically the other way. In view of the fact that as recently as 2002 the Gibraltarian people voted by 17,900 votes to 187 to remain British rather than to become Spanish (i.e. more integrated within the EU), yet only 14 years later voted by 19,322 votes to 823 to remain in the EU (i.e. to become closer to Spain) rather than to assert its British identity, this outcome becomes a most worrying mystery. It must be explained. Secondly the result in Scotland, where 62% voted to remain entangled in the EU against 38% who voted for national independence, is a matter of great concern for the future unity of the British nation. The fact that well over a third of Scots voted “Leave” when all four major parties advocated remaining in the EU shows that the outcome there was perhaps not as bad as may have been first imagined. [In Northern Ireland the less than emphatic victory for the “Remain” side can be realistically ignored, as quite clearly the vast majority of the majority voted to Leave. We wonder however how Mr.Nesbitt and his UUP cronies can explain the fact that for all their claims of being staunch Unionists they were prepared to vote the same way as the SF/IRA terrorists!].
Apart from these two worrying concerns the Referendum result brings us nothing but unqualified glee however. The result was not “narrow” as suggested by many “Remain” supporters; the victory margin was over one and a quarter million, which by any standards was both significant and substantial. Furthermore the fact that both Wales and Cornwall voted “Leave” in similar proportions to England gives the lie to the idea floated by the SNP and their fellow-travellers that the Keltic areas of the country were fundamentally more in support of EU rule.
As for the subsequent propelling of Theresa May into No.10 Downing Street, we can certainly think of some far worse potential successors to David Cameron. Theresa May was clearly only lukewarm in her support for the “Remain” side, and indeed once made a speech during the campaign which could have been interpreted as supporting either side. Likewise the sackings of George Osborne and Anna Soubry were most welcomed, whereas the dismissals of the likes of John Whittingdale and Theresa Villiers were to be regretted. It is far too early to judge whether Theresa May’s government should be praised or condemned however, so we wish her well, and will reserve judgement until sufficient time has passed to make informed comment.
Now is time to rejoice and to celebrate however – but the job is by no means completely finished. Just as we demanded freedom and independence for ourselves, so we should also support efforts by our European friends and allies to achieve similar freedom and independence for themselves. Already the terms “Frexit”, “Nexit” and “Grexit” have entered the international vocabulary - though we do not believe that it will end there. Furthermore a post-Brexit Britain must not become just a glorified Switzerland. Britain has always traditionally been an adventurous outward-looking nation, whose vision and destiny was to look West towards the Open Seas and the Empire/Commonwealth, rather then looking East towards an inwardly-orientated Europe. This traditional national place in the world must now be resumed, particularly in alliance with our brother countries from the Commonwealth. It is our task to put this neo-Imperialist vision firmly back on the agenda.

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
The Springbok Club held a couple of informal get-togethers last month in order to celebrate the Brexit victory, one in London and the other in Kent. It was particularly pleasing to be able to welcome two old colleagues and supporters at these events, both of whom we hadn’t previously seen for several years – and one of whom had travelled half way round the world just to vote “Leave”!

Later this month the Kent Branch of the Springbok Club will be staging an informal pub gathering in Dover at which a visiting supporter who sailed back from the Caribbean in order to vote “Leave” in the EU Referendum will be telling something about his recent travels to the West Indies and Bermuda. All members and Kent Branch supporters of the Springbok Club will be informed of the precise details of this event in due course.

SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The Swinton Circle was successfully re-established at a re-launch meeting held last month. In view of all the disasters which were encountered at and following the disrupted meeting of 31st July last year it was unanimously decided that three former members of the organization who were implicated in the problems which occurred both on this date and subsequently should be barred from ever joining the re-launched Swinton Circle, and that the organization would advance only slowly in order to ensure that it was firmly established before embarking upon any large-scale expansion. One positive and very encouraging development was that the 343 Group has agreed to merge with the re-launched Swinton Circle, and it is also anticipated that another patriotic organisation will be doing likewise soon. The first event being planned by the merged organisation will be an Autumn Buffet, which has provisionally been arranged for central London in October, at which it is hoped to welcome a prominent personality from the “Vote Leave” campaign as guest speaker. MEET A SURVIVOR NAMED VINNIE
We have recently received the following important message from the SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary :-
“In South Africa rhino poaching continues to escalate rapidly leaving rhinos defenseless and at the mercy of ruthless poaching syndicates. Extinction is no longer a by-product of poaching but it’s very objective. Every 6 hours a rhino dies a brutal death. Others are orphaned, injured or maimed for the rest of their lives.
“This mail is about one such survivor; a young rhino bull called Vinnie. He was very small when his entire family was wiped out in a single poaching incident, but Vinnie survived; desperately clinging to life despite the injuries he sustained. Against all odds Vinnie made a full recovery and is now a young rhino and in urgent need of a new family. Vinnie lives with a Brahman bull that has been his constant companion. It is however now time that both find new families of their own, but in Vinnie’s case he will need to be relocated to a reserve where he can be physically protected against poachers.

We have found a protected and well-armed reserve at an undisclosed location that can accept Vinnie and introduce him to another survivor who also escaped a brutal death. When her partner was gunned down and his horn removed, she managed to get away despite being shot high up on her back where the bullet intended to kill her, narrowly missed her spinal cord. She has made a full recovery.

BREXIT BRINGS RESULTS!
It has been incredible to witness the escalating number of international sporting triumphs achieved by British teams and individuals in the days immediately following the EU Referendum victory for the Brexit campaign. These have included :-
1) A whitewash series victory by the England Rugby Union Football side in Australia.
2) Series victories without any defeats by the England Men’s Cricket team against Sri Lanka (Ceylon) in all the Tests, ODIs and T20 tournaments.
3) A total whitewash of victories by the England Women’s Cricket team against Pakistan in both the ODI and T20 series.
4) Unprecedented success by the Welsh Association Football team by reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA European Championship.
5) Triumphs for Andy Murray in winning the Men’s Singles titles at both the Aegon Tournament and the All-England Lawn Tennis Championship.
6) Victory in the quarter-finals of this year’s Davis Cup by the Great Britain Lawn Tennis team against the much-fancied Serbian side.
7) Triumph for Chriss Froome by winning this year’s Critérium du Dauphiné.
8) Five stage wins so far in the Tour de France by British cyclists, with (at the time of writing) Chris Froome wearing the Yellow Jersey.
We are of course not trying to claim that all these triumphs were a direct result of the vote to Leave the EU. What we are saying is that this outcome has increased national self-confidence and euphoria significantly, and that this may well have had a knock-on effect on the performances of British competitors. In fact significant increase in national self-confidence and morale actually started with the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games – whose successes were mainly due to the organizing genius of Lord [Sebastian] Coe and the then Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. Although Boris Johnson of course subsequently played a leading role in the “Vote Leave” campaign, we don’t know for certain what the position of Lord Coe was on this issue – but even so his role in increasing national joy and self-confidence so massively by organizing such gloriously successful Olympic and Paralympic Games probably qualifies him to be hailed as another – if somewhat unlikely – hero of the “Vote Leave” triumph!
[ The one major sport where British competitors have not achieved significant post-Brexit success seems to have been Golf – so perhaps in view of this year’s Open result we should now be expecting “Swexit” shortly to be on the cards! ]

REMEMBERING DR. VERWOERD
Our friends from the HNP of South Africa are to be congratulated upon reminding us all that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the tragic assassination of Dr.Hendrik Verwoerd, and have done a most praiseworthy service by circulating a series of five articles about the great man’s life and career. Although these articles are all in Afrikaans (we could always forward copies to anyone upon request) one quotation in particular stands out to remind us all of what Dr.Verwoerrd managed to achieve for South Africa whilst Prime Minister. This quotation was from Lord Deedes, the former Bill Deedes - British Cabinet Minister, editor of the Daily Telegraph, confidant of Sir Dennis Thatcher (husband of Margaret Thatcher) and admirer of Dr.Verwoerd. It reads as follows :-
“While South Africa (in the Sixties) grew to be the economic giant of the continent, the other (Black) Commonwealth members sank into poverty”..
Hendrik Verwoerd was of course not born in South Africa, but in the Netherlands. With the current upsurge of self-assertion throughout the European continent exemplified by defiant opposition to Third World immigration and by Britain’s “Brexit” vote, is it being too melodramatic to hope that somewhere in the Netherlands today there is another little boy (or perhaps girl!) who one day will help re-assert the outward-looking destinies of the great European nation-states, and will thereby help to re-establish civilised rule in South Africa?

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.212 – Mnr. MARTIN SCHONTEICH of Durban and Cape Town
Martin Schonteich was of German ancestry, and when we met him and got to know him well he was studying Law at the University of Natal, Durban, during the mid-1980s. He was a very friendly, genuine and intelligent person, and could always be relied upon to do as he promised. He was also very active within the Conservative Party of South Africa, and once stood under their banner for Gillitts council, and also served as Chairman of the CP’s Youth Branch at UND. Around 1990 he moved to Cape Town in order to further his studies, specializing in criminology. He maintained good written contact with us throughout the early/mid 1990s, and indeed spoke at the first Springbok Club meeting following the merger of the White Rhino Club and Rhodesian Forum in 1996 when he toured the UK and Europe with his fiancée. He spoke then of moving to his ancestral homeland of Germany once he was fully qualified, but unfortunately contact with him inexplicably ceased shortly after this. We would therefore be very keen to learn what happened to him and where he is now – be it still in South Africa, in Germany or elsewhere.

LAND LIES
Sir,
Sadly, the majority population is still given to believe by ANC and EFF that the land was "stolen" from them by Whites. The fact that there was no "ownership" of land before Europeans introduced this concept to southern Africa is not taken into account. Land was occupied by conquest or because it was sparsely inhabited by nomads, and it was the tribal chief's prerogative as to where his people could graze their cattle or plant their crops. Title to land is a foreign concept. The ruling party has taken the place of the tribal council, with its leader as the chief African-style democracy in respect of land ownership is evident in Zimbabwe.

OBITUARY
CHERYL RODRIGUES
It was with great sadness and shock that we learnt of the recent tragic death of Cheryl Rodrigues, the wife of Johnny Rodrigues, the founder and Chairman of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force.
Cheryl Rodrigues was born as Cheryl Whyte on the 15th December 1956 in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. She came from a family of avid motorcycle enthusiasts and rode a motorcycle herself in her youth. As a young girl, she was labelled as “quite a tough cookie” and a bit of a tom-boy. She was only 5ft tall but nothing stopped her fiery, witty and determined spirit from achieving anything that she set her mind to. As well as riding motorbikes, and racing her cousin’s go-kart around the farm roads, affectionately named “the race track”, she also did a spot of ballet - which she hated. She made all the clothes she wore too. Cheryl was a stunning woman with brownish black hair and beautiful brown eyes which would captivate your soul if you ever did have the pleasure of meeting her.
She was a very intelligent lady who excelled at school and wanted to go onto university. Her command of the English language was exemplary as well as her artistic skills and she could play the piano and piano-accordion by ear fluently. Cheryl painted some of the most beautiful works of art, which people would ask if they were in fact paintings or photographs. Her attention to detail was impeccable.
Cheryl met Johnny Rodrigues in 1974. She was crossing the road in front of his car which was parked at the robots…..he had never seen such a beautiful woman in all his life. He told her that he would be coming to visit that afternoon, to which she aptly replied…”well, I won’t be there”. On arriving at her house in the morning, as promised, she had gone off on her motorbike to the swimming pool. On her return, later that afternoon, Johnny then told her that he was going to marry her; her response was “sure buck”. Needless to say, they fell madly in love and were married in Salisbury later that year. A year later Lorraine came along, followed by Brigitte and later on Shane.
During Cheryl’s 42 years of married life to her love, Johnny, she played softball and was selected to play on an all girls football team in the Currie Cup in South Africa, which she received her Provincial colours for. After relocating back to Zimbabwe she was selected to fish for Zimbabwe under the National Bank Angling Team and fished the Tri-Nations International in Namibia and did very well. She received her National colours as a result of her efforts.
Cheryl also started writing a book about the ZCTF and Johnny, which she only completed 12 chapters, which it is hoped to complete and make available to the public so everyone can hear her story.
She supported her husband Johnny, her children, grand-children and son in-law Gavin, wholeheartedly in everything they did. She was Johnny’s fishing partner attended all the car races that he and their children competed in as well as supported her children in their karate at the World Championships in 2014 where her daughter Lorraine and grand-daughter Kylie both won silver medals. Her son Shane has also made a name for himself with his life-like pencil drawings of animals too.
Cheryl always loved animals. In 1998, Johnny and Cheryl formed The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force. Cheryl would do oil paintings of the animal’s native to Zimbabwe to try to raise awareness and funds to help the ZCTF grow. The funds raised were used to help send anti-poaching units run by Johnny in the Kariba area to stop the netting of tiger fish. They also raised funds towards saving Hwange when it was hit by the severe drought in 2005. The ZCTF bought fuel, spares for pumps, uniforms and boots and assisted towards the National Park’s rangers’ wages during that time. Cheryl accompanied Johnny on one of the trips to Hwange to deliver the first batch of 10,000 litres of fuel, from a total of 65,000 litres actually delivered. After installing the pumps and the water began to pump into the pan, they witnessed the thirsty animals coming out of the bushes to drink the much needed water. Many different species came down to the watering hole that day. Cheryl was awe-struck by the euphoric atmosphere in the air whilst the animals drank water at the same time…… they did not sleep that night, they sat at the watering hole savouring the moment before them.
There are so many instances whereby the efforts of Johnny and Cheryl resulted in animals being relocated to safer areas, M99 being purchased for the local vets too. Only a few of their accomplishments have been spoken about as there are too many to mention. This was all made possible from the proceeds of Cheryl’s paintings and the many donations that came in from animal lovers all over the world.
Cheryl sat tirelessly for days and nights sending out the ZCTF reports and helped Johnny expose the truth about the famous Lion, Cecil who was killed by the infamous Walter Palmer. This led to the Cecil Act being passed by the US government preventing all imports of trophy hunts from Zimbabwe into America, as well as many airlines coming on board to stop the transportation of any trophies in the future. The United Nations have tabled a wildlife act to protect all endangered wildlife and aquatic life around the world. We still await the outcome of their decision. There will be a Cecil rally in Washington DC, USA on the 30th July 2016 in honour of Cecil and the growing continuous efforts to save the endangered lion. This has all come about because of the Cecil Act; the King of the Jungle, Cecil, never died in vain. To date this has to be one of the greatest achievements accomplished by the ZCTF and for conservation world wide.
Today, the world has lost a great conservationist; a lover of all things created by God and has left everyone connected to her empty, full of despair and sorrow. Although she has taken a leave of absence to go and help God care for Cecil the Lion and Tusker the Elephant and the animals she so dearly loved and tried to save, she did leave us with one thing………..her legacy. A legacy that will live on in our hearts forever and that we will continue to fight for the animals until our last breath and we meet her again because she wouldn’t have had it any other way.

The quote above was written by John Kay, and pretty much sums up everything Cheryl Rodrigues believed in and lived by. Our sincerest condolences are extended to Johnny, his children and grandchildren – and to all the animals which Cheryl cherished.

Often in the past we have been criticised for being too optimistic and over-confident about the future. The result the EU Referendum of 23rd June has shown however that our optimism and confidence regarding the future of the British nation and peoples has been well founded!
Not only was the result of the Referendum most exciting and inspiring in itself, but the incredible rapid aftermaths only added to this sense of exhilaration. The first of these was of course the speedy resignation of David Cameron (and of course David Cameron must be congratulated upon fulfilling his election promise by holding the Referendum, and then for doing the honorable thing by resigning immediately after the result contrary to his own personal position became known. History will undoubtedly judge him kindly). This of course was followed by the installation of Theresa May’s government pledged to ensuring that “Brexit means Brexit”, and then by massive convulsions within the Labour Party meaning that this retrograde party will almost certainly now split in two, and hopefully then be consigned to the dustbin of history. Even more encouraging have been the increases in active opposition to unrestricted immigration voiced by so many British citizens, who alas had previously been so cowered by the constraints of “political correctness”.
Two aspects of the Referendum have worried us deeply however, Firstly we were dumbfounded by the fact that in Gibraltar the result went so catastrophically the other way. In view of the fact that as recently as 2002 the Gibraltarian people voted by 17,900 votes to 187 to remain British rather than to become Spanish (i.e. more integrated within the EU), yet only 14 years later voted by 19,322 votes to 823 to remain in the EU (i.e. to become closer to Spain) rather than to assert its British identity, this outcome becomes a most worrying mystery. It must be explained. Secondly the result in Scotland, where 62% voted to remain entangled in the EU against 38% who voted for national independence, is a matter of great concern for the future unity of the British nation. The fact that well over a third of Scots voted “Leave” when all four major parties advocated remaining in the EU shows that the outcome there was perhaps not as bad as may have been first imagined. [In Northern Ireland the less than emphatic victory for the “Remain” side can be realistically ignored, as quite clearly the vast majority of the majority voted to Leave. We wonder however how Mr.Nesbitt and his UUP cronies can explain the fact that for all their claims of being staunch Unionists they were prepared to vote the same way as the SF/IRA terrorists!].
Apart from these two worrying concerns the Referendum result brings us nothing but unqualified glee however. The result was not “narrow” as suggested by many “Remain” supporters; the victory margin was over one and a quarter million, which by any standards was both significant and substantial. Furthermore the fact that both Wales and Cornwall voted “Leave” in similar proportions to England gives the lie to the idea floated by the SNP and their fellow-travellers that the Keltic areas of the country were fundamentally more in support of EU rule.
As for the subsequent propelling of Theresa May into No.10 Downing Street, we can certainly think of some far worse potential successors to David Cameron. Theresa May was clearly only lukewarm in her support for the “Remain” side, and indeed once made a speech during the campaign which could have been interpreted as supporting either side. It was particularly pleasing to be able to welcome two old colleagues and supporters at these events, both of whom we hadn’t previously seen for several years – and one of whom had travelled half way round the world just to vote “Leave”!

Later this month the Kent Branch of the Springbok Club will be staging an informal pub gathering in Dover at which a visiting supporter who sailed back from the Caribbean in order to vote “Leave” in the EU Referendum will be telling something about his recent travels to the West Indies and Bermuda. All members and Kent Branch supporters of the Springbok Club will be informed of the precise details of this event in due course.

SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS
The Swinton Circle was successfully re-established at a re-launch meeting held last month. In view of all the disasters which were encountered at and following the disrupted meeting of 31st July last year it was unanimously decided that three former members of the organization who were implicated in the problems which occurred both on this date and subsequently should be barred from ever joining the re-launched Swinton Circle, and that the organization would advance only slowly in order to ensure that it was firmly established before embarking upon any large-scale expansion. One positive and very encouraging development was that the 343 Group has agreed to merge with the re-launched Swinton Circle, and it is also anticipated that another patriotic organisation will be doing likewise soon. The first event being planned by the merged organisation will be an Autumn Buffet, which has provisionally been arranged for central London in October, at which it is hoped to welcome a prominent personality from the “Vote Leave” campaign as guest speaker. MEET A SURVIVOR NAMED VINNIE
We have recently received the following important message from the SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary :-
“In South Africa rhino poaching continues to escalate rapidly leaving rhinos defenseless and at the mercy of ruthless poaching syndicates. Extinction is no longer a by-product of poaching but it’s very objective. Every 6 hours a rhino dies a brutal death. Others are orphaned, injured or maimed for the rest of their lives.
“This mail is about one such survivor; a young rhino bull called Vinnie. He was very small when his entire family was wiped out in a single poaching incident, but Vinnie survived; desperately clinging to life despite the injuries he sustained. Against all odds Vinnie made a full recovery and is now a young rhino and in urgent need of a new family. Vinnie lives with a Brahman bull that has been his constant companion. It is however now time that both find new families of their own, but in Vinnie’s case he will need to be relocated to a reserve where he can be physically protected against poachers.
“SanWild has been working very hard to facilitate this. We have found a protected and well-armed reserve at an undisclosed location that can accept Vinnie and introduce him to another survivor who also escaped a brutal death. When her partner was gunned down and his horn removed, she managed to get away despite being shot high up on her back where the bullet intended to kill her, narrowly missed her spinal cord. She has made a full recovery.

BREXIT BRINGS RESULTS!
It has been incredible to witness the escalating number of international sporting triumphs achieved by British teams and individuals in the days immediately following the EU Referendum victory for the Brexit campaign. These have included :-
1) A whitewash series victory by the England Rugby Union Football side in Australia.
2) Series victories without any defeats by the England Men’s Cricket team against Sri Lanka (Ceylon) in all the Tests, ODIs and T20 tournaments.
3) A total whitewash of victories by the England Women’s Cricket team against Pakistan in both the ODI and T20 series.
4) Unprecedented success by the Welsh Association Football team by reaching the semi-finals of the UEFA European Championship.
5) Triumphs for Andy Murray in winning the Men’s Singles titles at both the Aegon Tournament and the All-England Lawn Tennis Championship.
6) Victory in the quarter-finals of this year’s Davis Cup by the Great Britain Lawn Tennis team against the much-fancied Serbian side.
7) Triumph for Chriss Froome by winning this year’s Critérium du Dauphiné.
8) Five stage wins so far in the Tour de France by British cyclists, with (at the time of writing) Chris Froome wearing the Yellow Jersey.
We are of course not trying to claim that all these triumphs were a direct result of the vote to Leave the EU. What we are saying is that this outcome has increased national self-confidence and euphoria significantly, and that this may well have had a knock-on effect on the performances of British competitors. In fact significant increase in national self-confidence and morale actually started with the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games – whose successes were mainly due to the organizing genius of Lord [Sebastian] Coe and the then Mayor of London, Boris Johnson. Although Boris Johnson of course subsequently played a leading role in the “Vote Leave” campaign, we don’t know for certain what the position of Lord Coe was on this issue – but even so his role in increasing national joy and self-confidence so massively by organizing such gloriously successful Olympic and Paralympic Games probably qualifies him to be hailed as another – if somewhat unlikely – hero of the “Vote Leave” triumph!
[ The one major sport where British competitors have not achieved significant post-Brexit success seems to have been Golf – so perhaps in view of this year’s Open result we should now be expecting “Swexit” shortly to be on the cards! ]

REMEMBERING DR. VERWOERD
Our friends from the HNP of South Africa are to be congratulated upon reminding us all that this year marks the 50th anniversary of the tragic assassination of Dr.Hendrik Verwoerd, and have done a most praiseworthy service by circulating a series of five articles about the great man’s life and career. Although these articles are all in Afrikaans (we could always forward copies to anyone upon request) one quotation in particular stands out to remind us all of what Dr.Verwoerrd managed to achieve for South Africa whilst Prime Minister. This quotation was from Lord Deedes, the former Bill Deedes - British Cabinet Minister, editor of the Daily Telegraph, confidant of Sir Dennis Thatcher (husband of Margaret Thatcher) and admirer of Dr.Verwoerd. It reads as follows :-
“While South Africa (in the Sixties) grew to be the economic giant of the continent, the other (Black) Commonwealth members sank into poverty”..
Hendrik Verwoerd was of course not born in South Africa, but in the Netherlands. With the current upsurge of self-assertion throughout the European continent exemplified by defiant opposition to Third World immigration and by Britain’s “Brexit” vote, is it being too melodramatic to hope that somewhere in the Netherlands today there is another little boy (or perhaps girl!) who one day will help re-assert the outward-looking destinies of the great European nation-states, and will thereby help to re-establish civilised rule in South Africa?

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.212 – Mnr. MARTIN SCHONTEICH of Durban and Cape Town
Martin Schonteich was of German ancestry, and when we met him and got to know him well he was studying Law at the University of Natal, Durban, during the mid-1980s. He was a very friendly, genuine and intelligent person, and could always be relied upon to do as he promised. He was also very active within the Conservative Party of South Africa, and once stood under their banner for Gillitts council, and also served as Chairman of the CP’s Youth Branch at UND. Around 1990 he moved to Cape Town in order to further his studies, specializing in criminology. He maintained good written contact with us throughout the early/mid 1990s, and indeed spoke at the first Springbok Club meeting following the merger of the White Rhino Club and Rhodesian Forum in 1996 when he toured the UK and Europe with his fiancée. He spoke then of moving to his ancestral homeland of Germany once he was fully qualified, but unfortunately contact with him inexplicably ceased shortly after this. We would therefore be very keen to learn what happened to him and where he is now – be it still in South Africa, in Germany or elsewhere.

LAND LIES
Sir,
Sadly, the majority population is still given to believe by ANC and EFF that the land was "stolen" from them by Whites. The fact that there was no "ownership" of land before Europeans introduced this concept to southern Africa is not taken into account. Land was occupied by conquest or because it was sparsely inhabited by nomads, and it was the tribal chief's prerogative as to where his people could graze their cattle or plant their crops. Title to land is a foreign concept. The ruling party has taken the place of the tribal council, with its leader as the chief African-style democracy in respect of land ownership is evident in Zimbabwe.

Donald Trump is a bit of a Curate's Egg. Last week Trump gathered 1000 Christian and religious leaders mainly evangelicals in a meeting and promised to :-
1 - Defund Planned Parenthood (BIG PLUS)
2 - Stop Obamacare, forcing people and companies and organizations to fund birth control and provide abortion to their members
3 - Took a couple of heavy hitters on as advisors on faith
4 - Says he will remove the 501C charitable status on Churches which will let them speak freely and endorse candidates. The Church should never have agreed to this.
So things look different. Trump is better than Clinton, but I still prefer Putin to them all!

OBITUARY
CHERYL RODRIGUES
It was with great sadness and shock that we learnt of the recent tragic death of Cheryl Rodrigues, the wife of Johnny Rodrigues, the founder and Chairman of the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force.
Cheryl Rodrigues was born as Cheryl Whyte on the 15th December 1956 in Salisbury, Southern Rhodesia. She came from a family of avid motorcycle enthusiasts and rode a motorcycle herself in her youth. As a young girl, she was labelled as “quite a tough cookie” and a bit of a tom-boy. She was only 5ft tall but nothing stopped her fiery, witty and determined spirit from achieving anything that she set her mind to. As well as riding motorbikes, and racing her cousin’s go-kart around the farm roads, affectionately named “the race track”, she also did a spot of ballet - which she hated. She made all the clothes she wore too. Cheryl was a stunning woman with brownish black hair and beautiful brown eyes which would captivate your soul if you ever did have the pleasure of meeting her.
She was a very intelligent lady who excelled at school and wanted to go onto university. Her command of the English language was exemplary as well as her artistic skills and she could play the piano and piano-accordion by ear fluently. Cheryl painted some of the most beautiful works of art, which people would ask if they were in fact paintings or photographs. Her attention to detail was impeccable.
Cheryl met Johnny Rodrigues in 1974. She was crossing the road in front of his car which was parked at the robots…..he had never seen such a beautiful woman in all his life. He told her that he would be coming to visit that afternoon, to which she aptly replied…”well, I won’t be there”. On arriving at her house in the morning, as promised, she had gone off on her motorbike to the swimming pool. On her return, later that afternoon, Johnny then told her that he was going to marry her; her response was “sure buck”. Needless to say, they fell madly in love and were married in Salisbury later that year. A year later Lorraine came along, followed by Brigitte and later on Shane.
During Cheryl’s 42 years of married life to her love, Johnny, she played softball and was selected to play on an all girls football team in the Currie Cup in South Africa, which she received her Provincial colours for. After relocating back to Zimbabwe she was selected to fish for Zimbabwe under the National Bank Angling Team and fished the Tri-Nations International in Namibia and did very well. She received her National colours as a result of her efforts.
Cheryl also started writing a book about the ZCTF and Johnny, which she only completed 12 chapters, which it is hoped to complete and make available to the public so everyone can hear her story.
She supported her husband Johnny, her children, grand-children and son in-law Gavin, wholeheartedly in everything they did. She was Johnny’s fishing partner attended all the car races that he and their children competed in as well as supported her children in their karate at the World Championships in 2014 where her daughter Lorraine and grand-daughter Kylie both won silver medals. Her son Shane has also made a name for himself with his life-like pencil drawings of animals too.
Cheryl always loved animals. In 1998, Johnny and Cheryl formed The Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force. Cheryl would do oil paintings of the animal’s native to Zimbabwe to try to raise awareness and funds to help the ZCTF grow. The funds raised were used to help send anti-poaching units run by Johnny in the Kariba area to stop the netting of tiger fish. They also raised funds towards saving Hwange when it was hit by the severe drought in 2005. The ZCTF bought fuel, spares for pumps, uniforms and boots and assisted towards the National Park’s rangers’ wages during that time. Cheryl accompanied Johnny on one of the trips to Hwange to deliver the first batch of 10,000 litres of fuel, from a total of 65,000 litres actually delivered. After installing the pumps and the water began to pump into the pan, they witnessed the thirsty animals coming out of the bushes to drink the much needed water. Many different species came down to the watering hole that day. Cheryl was awe-struck by the euphoric atmosphere in the air whilst the animals drank water at the same time…… they did not sleep that night, they sat at the watering hole savouring the moment before them.
There are so many instances whereby the efforts of Johnny and Cheryl resulted in animals being relocated to safer areas, M99 being purchased for the local vets too. Only a few of their accomplishments have been spoken about as there are too many to mention. This was all made possible from the proceeds of Cheryl’s paintings and the many donations that came in from animal lovers all over the world.
Cheryl sat tirelessly for days and nights sending out the ZCTF reports and helped Johnny expose the truth about the famous Lion, Cecil who was killed by the infamous Walter Palmer. This led to the Cecil Act being passed by the US government preventing all imports of trophy hunts from Zimbabwe into America, as well as many airlines coming on board to stop the transportation of any trophies in the future. The United Nations have tabled a wildlife act to protect all endangered wildlife and aquatic life around the world. We still await the outcome of their decision. There will be a Cecil rally in Washington DC, USA on the 30th July 2016 in honour of Cecil and the growing continuous efforts to save the endangered lion. This has all come about because of the Cecil Act; the King of the Jungle, Cecil, never died in vain. To date this has to be one of the greatest achievements accomplished by the ZCTF and for conservation world wide.
Today, the world has lost a great conservationist; a lover of all things created by God and has left everyone connected to her empty, full of despair and sorrow. Although she has taken a leave of absence to go and help God care for Cecil the Lion and Tusker the Elephant and the animals she so dearly loved and tried to save, she did leave us with one thing………..her legacy. A legacy that will live on in our hearts forever and that we will continue to fight for the animals until our last breath and we meet her again because she wouldn’t have had it any other way.

The quote above was written by John Kay, and pretty much sums up everything Cheryl Rodrigues believed in and lived by. Our sincerest condolences are extended to Johnny, his children and grandchildren – and to all the animals which Cheryl cherished.
