During the last month the most sensational news to come out of South Africa concerns an alleged assassination conspiracy against the ANC President of South Africa, Thabo Mbeki (who we erroneously referred to as "Thambo" in S.A.Patriot-in-Exile No.35).

Much of the world media has "pooh-poohed" this assassination-plot claim as being unbelievable - but is it really so inconceivable? After all Mbeki and all the alleged conspirators are members of the ANC, an overtly terrorist organisation whose stock-in-trade was murdering people. Is it not likely that now they have achieved their aim of seizing control of South Africa these terrorists should start to fight amongst themselves and to turn their guns against each other? After all, a terrorist is a terrorist is a terrorist.

Neither are the hands of the three supposed plotters - who go under the bizarre names of Cyril Ramaphosa, Tokyo Sexwale and Mathews Phose - any less bloody than those of Mbeki himself, quite the reverse in fact. It should be noted that the three accused have been publicly backed by the convicted terrorist Nelson Mandela (who served 27 years of a life sentence for terrorist activities), and furthermore that Ramaphosa himself was approved by the IRA murderers to be an "inspector" of their hoards of illegally held arms.

Mbeki, on the other hand, has never been convicted of any terrorist offence, and furthermore seems to have spent most of his time during the ANC's murder campaign against innocent South Africans by "swanning it up" at the University of Sussex (where he evidently studied some most interesting theories on the causes of AIDS).

The breakdown in law and order and the infrastructure of the state, and the continuing murder campaign against innocent Whites (particularly farmers) has continued apace under Mbeki of course - but this is no different to the situation which existed under the loathsome Mandela, and if anything perhaps the rate of this drift back to savagery has levelled off. Life for the average law-abiding South African would certainly be no better under Ramaphosa and Co than it is currently under Mbeki therefore, no matter what certain sections of the liberal media may suggest - and perhaps, just perhaps, it might turn out to be considerably worse.

SPRINGBOK CLUB APRIL MEETING

The Springbok Club was most honoured to welcome two excellent guest speakers for our April meeting.

The first was Mr. Robert Henderson, the well-known cricket writer, who had written the famous article "Is it in the Blood?" (although this was not his original intended title for the article) in "Wisden Cricket Monthly" a few years ago. This article resulted in an unbelievable sequence of events which begun with unjustified attacks upon it in certain sections of the British press (to which Robert Henderson was never given any opportunity of reply) and ended with attempts by Tony and Cherie Blair to have him prosecuted (unsuccessfully) and then placed under police surveillance, in what became known as the "Blair Scandal". In his speech Mr. Henderson gave a most rivetting account of how the "Blair Scandal" came about, and why Tony Blair simply can't be trusted.

The second speaker was Mr. Bob Collins from Cape Town, who was touring the UK and Europe at the time. In an enlightening talk Mr. Collins not only gave a brief update of the current situation in South Africa, but also outlined the dangers which he saw facing the White man around the world, particularly through massive "third world" immigration and a declining White birthrate.

We are most grateful to both Mr. Henderson and Mr. Collins for their enthralling talks.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB EVENTS

During the next few months the Springbok Club will be concentrating on more social events and branch development.

Towards the end of May (probably on Saturday 26th May) we hope that our Chilterns Branch will be officially launched with an informal gathering at Chesham, where we also hope to welcome an esteemed guest of honour well known to many of our supporters.

In June the Kent Branch will be holding a braai at Swanley, when we again hope to welcome a highly respected guest of honour from Southern Africa.

In July our Hampshire Branch will be holding an "open meeting" in Southampton, and once again we anticipate welcoming an interesting guest speaker from Southern Africa.

Needless to say, full details concerning all these events will be notified as soon as full arrangements have been finalised.

S.A.PATRIOT-IN-EXILE

We have recently received a couple of most generous donations which have enabled us to complete the overseas postage of S.A.Patriot-in-Exile No.35. This therefore means that we can now start to prepare the next edition of the magazine, No.36, which we thus hope to be able to publish during the next few months.

We still need to raise sufficient funds to pay for the printing of this next issue of course, but apart from straight-forward donations there is another more specific method by which friends and supporters can help us in this regard.

During that vital period of South African history during the end of 1989 and the beginning of 1990 we managed to publish an in-depth analysis of the developing situation in the country called "Patriotic Press's South African Newsletter". Although we had to cease publication when we were forced to relocate operations to the UK, we have recently been able to re-issue the eight editions which we originally produced. Although this publication is of course no longer of any current relevance, it is even so still of great historical interest, and can be purchased for £20.00 (£10.00 for Full Members of the Springbok Club) for a complete set of all eight issues.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE

The London Swinton Circle held a most interesting meeting at the beginning of May when their guest speaker was Julie Kirkbride MP, the Conservative Member for Bromsgrove, and wife of Andrew MacKay, the Shadow Spokesman on Northern Ireland. Julie Kirkbride gave a most informative speech in which she accurately outlined the dangerous bias of the BBC, and during question time gave some most encouraging replies concerning future Conservative Government policies, particularly in relation to Northern Ireland.

The London Swinton Circle is also planning a buffet dinner on June 19th in central London when their guest speaker will be Michael Gove, the prominent "Times" journalist. If you are interested in attending this event then please let us know.

THE BRITISH EMPIRE & COMMONWEALTH MUSEUM

Most supporters will probably remember our report on our visit to the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum in Bristol during February, when we commented that the main exhibition itself (as distinct to the specific Rhodesian Army Association section which was the main purpose for our visit) was somewhat disappointing, evidently because they still lacked the necessary funding. We have recently learnt, however, that the Musuem has happily received a number of most encouraging grants, including one of £300,000 from the Linbury Trust, which should enable them complete all their exhibition plans. We definitely still intend to make a return visit to the Museum during the next couple of years therefore.

MDC DEMONSTRATIONS

Several Springbok Club members joined the large MDC protest demonstration outside the Zimbabwe High Commission in London on Saturday 21st April, when it was estimated that over 200 people were present to protest against ZANU/PF tyranny.

The MDC UK branches are planning a further such Solidarity Demonstration, the details of which are:-

Date :  Saturday 26 May, 2001
Time :  12.00hrs - 14.00hrs
Venue:  Outside the Zimbabwe High Commission, 429 The Strand, London WC2
(Closest tube stations: Charing Cross and Embankment)

In addition it is planned to handover a Memorandum at the Prime Minister's residence, 10 Downing Street, London SW1 at 13.00 hrs on the same day.

A six-member delegation is permitted to deliver the memorandum, in addition to Members of Parliament.
 
The Memorandum will express the concerns about the situation in Zimbabwe and for the Zimbabwean people, specifically:

1) The intimidation of the judiciary and the negation of the rule of law.
2) The attacks on the independent press and the arbitrary expulsion of foreign journalists.
3) The irresponsible and corrupt economic policies that are leading to poverty, unemployment and basic food shortages for the Zimbabwean people.
4) The continued murder, arbitrary arrest and detention, intimidation, abduction and harassment of ordinary citizens and members of the opposition.
5) The negative impact of these developments on Southern Africa.
6) The continued failure of the South African government, the SADC, the Commonwealth and the United Nations to take a clear stand on these critical issues.

The Movement for Democratic Change calls for the British Government to join us in our bid:-

1) To condemn the human rights abuses by the Zimbabwean government towards its citizens.
2) For a return to the rule of law in Zimbabwe, and the cessation of all orchestrated political violence and intimidation.
3) To suspend all financial aid and material support for the Zimbabwean government.
4) To impose a world-wide ban on the travel of members of the Zimbabwean government.
5) To impose a world-wide freeze on all assets and investments of members of the Zimbabwean government.

We have recently received a rather offensive e-mail attacking our activities from an individual calling himself Richard Plaistowe, who claims to be a White South African living in London. We know nothing further about character, except that he appears to bear an irrational hatred of his country of birth. If anybody else knows anything about this wretched idiot, however, then we would most certainly be very keen to learn the details.

Although rare, irrational attacks from anti-South African trouble-makers such as this have not been unknown since we've been "on-line". We've therefore decided to initiate a "Rogues Gallery" of all those who have caused us any problems in the past. This list will of course always be available to any other patriotic organisations who may be keen to learn the details, and thus avoid these trouble-making enemies of our cause.

Our efforts to expand the South African resistance struggle in exile are often met with opposition on two main grounds. Firstly it is argued that South Africa is a lost cause, and secondly potential friends tell us "why should we support the South African and Rhodesian Whites when they weren't prepared to maintain resistance themselves".

The first of these superficial arguments is easily counteracted. We KNOW that South Africa is lost - indeed we would argue that it was lost as far back as 1989 when the stupid electorate voted the sellout F.W. de Klerk back into power. Our struggle now is not to RETAIN South Africa however, but to REGAIN it! This is a far different battle, and one which by its very nature will be on-going until we achieve victory.

The second argument has been far more difficult to oppose however, as there have appeared to be no forms of resistance whatsoever amongst either South Africans or erstwhile Rhodesians in their beleaguered lands.

Recently there have been several very encouraging developments which tend to show that this sad state of affairs is changing however. In Zimbabwe the "Movement for Democratic Change" has clearly established itself as the government-in-waiting, and it seems only a matter of time before they replace the tyrant Mugabe. Although basically a Black political party it is encouraging to note the contributions made by Whites to the MDC - both internally and overseas. The MDC therefore has the potential to initiate a new era of mutual-respect in that land between the Zambezi and Limpopo. In South Africa there have also recently been some very interesting developments, with resistance organisations such as the "Priora Forum" (which is covered in more detail later on in this edition of the SCN), "Action Stop Farm Attacks" and the "Thabazimbi Action Group" gaining much publicity.

At last there appears to be hope therefore. Needless to say the Springbok Club wishes all these organisations well, and will continue to act as the main co-ordinating movement for the South African resistance struggle in exile.

SPRINGBOK CLUB MARCH MEETING

The Springbok Club held a most happy and successful meeting in London during March when we were addressed by two members who have recently visited Africa. Springbok Club Chairman Peter Fisher gave a most interesting talk on his visit to the former British colony of Gambia, and told how most of the basic infrastructures of the modern world were either non-existent or collapsing there. James Lewis, who had toured South Africa itself last year, reported that the situation there was not so bad, though clearly in decline. Most Whites, he reported, seemed more apprehensive than dispairing about the future, and it was quite clear that it was their continuing presence which was keeping the country afloat.

SPRINGBOK CLUB APRIL EVENT

Unfortunately, as most supporters probably know by now, we have had to cancel our planned "international" Springbok Club gathering in Stockholm, when we were hoping to meet our outgoing SC Australian co-ordinator, Nick Maine, who would be touring Scandinavia at that time. This last-minute cancellation has been entirely due to the fact that our Scandinavian co-ordinator, Lars Karnestam, who was to organise the whole event, is quite seriously ill at the moment. This of course has been a great tragedy and disappointment, and we apologise to everybody for any inconvenience which it may have caused. We also pass on our very best wishes to Lars for a full and speedy recovery.

In its place we are happy to announce that we have arranged a replacement meeting in London. This will be addressed by a visiting supporter from Cape Town, but in view of the rather high-profile job which he holds in that city he has asked to remain anonymous prior to the meeting. In his talk he will report on the current deteriorating situation in Western Province, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB EVENTS

The Springbok Club is hoping to join forces with a number of other patriotic organisations in May under the "Patriotic Forum" title in order to host a meeting in London to be addressed by a visiting prominent African politician. This development means that we will probably postpone our planned Spring Braai from May till June as a result. Needless to say further details of both these events will be included in future editions of the SCN.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE

Although the London Swinton Circle was not originally planning to stage any meetings during the next couple of months (believing that "president" Blair was to call a general election in May), the postponement of this election has meant that they may be able to arrange a further meeting at short-notice after all - and the name of John Townend MP (who of course recently gave a brave and very accurate speech on the subject of immigration) has been mentioned as a potential guest speaker. Needless to say we will inform everyone of the details if and when such a meeting has been finalised.

The periodical "Tough Talking from the Right" is produced by those closely associated with the London Swinton Circle. In the latest issue (No.10) there is furthermore an item of special interest to those connected to or interested in Southern Africa. THE PRIORA FORUM

The Priora Forum is a new officially registered South African organisation with a seven-member management board and a team of legal advisors. Their stated aim is to call the present government to accountability regarding the unacceptable crime levels in South Africa. This will be done in a supportive way first of all, but if not satisfied with the reaction from government they will prepare a case to be submitted before the Constitutional Court. If all this fails then they intend to initiate a campaign to withhold taxes and to channnel them into a trust account which will only become available to government once necessary steps have been taken to end the unacceptable crime levels. They also intend to obtain as much overseas publicity and backing as possible. As they say is their latest press release "The time has come to stand up for our rights under the constitution. Say 'NO' to crime, and say 'NO' to government."

MDC DEMONSTRATIONS

The UK branches of the "Movement for Democratic Change" of Zimbabwe staged a couple of protest demonstrations in London during March, which proved highly successful. The first, outside the Commonwealth Offices when Commonwealth foreign ministers were gathering there, was particularly well attended, and the second, outside the Zimbabwe High Commission, attracted favourable publicity in the March 26th edition of "TNT Magazine".

The MDC UK branches are now planning an even bigger protest, the details of which are as follows:-

The purpose of these demonstrations is to protest against the draconian and escalating human rights violations by the Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe (specifically the attacks upon the judiciary and the independent press, and freedom of association and movement), and to demand that unless such abuses are halted that Zimbabwe should be suspended from the Commonwealth. All those opposed to Mugabe's tyrannical rule are invited to join these demonstrations.

PROTEST AGAINST THE NICE TREATY

Four peers of the realm - the Duke of Rutland, Viscount Massereene & Ferrard, Lord Hamilton of Dalzell and Lord Ashbourne - presented a petition at Buckingham Palace on Friday 23rd March calling on Her Majesty The Queen to withhold the Royal Assent from any Bill attempting to ratify the Treaty of Nice.

The peers were acting under the powers granted to them by King John in 1215, when he signed the Magna Carta at Runnymede. Clause 61 provides for four barons to represent a minimum of 25 others in seeking "redress of grievances" within 40 days. This is the first time in 300 years that Peers have felt it necessary to invoke the Magna Carta in petitioning the Queen.

No.30 :  Mr. PAUL ROPER of Durban North

Although born in Bournemouth, Paul Roper came to represent everything which was best about British South Africa. Gifted with charisma-plus, his house in Glenashley, Durban North, was the venue for regular weekend soirees for what became known as the "Roper set". A bon vivant par excellence, he was also an outstanding sportsman, gaining Transvaal Currie Cup colours for soccer before moving to Natal and playing for Durban Collegians. He travelled in ladies underwear (i.e. he was a rep' for Gossard bras) and his fancy dress birthday parties during the 1980s were the talk of Durban society. We are uncertain whether he is still in Durban or has moved back to the UK, but in either case would be delighted to be able to re-make contact with him.

THE SWEDISH CONNECTION

The biggest mystery concerning the hysterical reaction of young Mr. Arthur Kemp after we exposed the fact that he was in the pay of the South African security services was how he came to learn of our exposure of him so quickly, as he was not on the SCN circulation list.

This mystery has recently been solved however, for it turns out that the person who told Kemp that his game was up was a most surprising source, and someone moreover from a most unexpected location.

His informant turned out to be an individual named Tommy Ryden from Mullsjo in Sweden. After the March edition of the SCN Ryden wrote to us asking to be "unsubscribed", and quoted as his reason our continuing exposes about young Mr. Kemp. Furthermore, although Mr. Ryden is little more than a name to us, he chose to repeat - almost word for word - the demonstratably untrue lies and pathetic personal slanders which the wretched Kemp had earlier issued during his panicking reaction to our exposure of him.

As we say, we know very little about this Tommy Ryden character. He first made contact with "S.A.Patriot" from Sweden during the mid-1980s, when he gave the impression of being an staunch Christian. He subsequently moved to South Africa, and the next we heard from him was when he was living with an NGK dominee from Bergsville in northern Natal. He ordered a batch of copies of "S.A.Patriot" from us, which of course we supplied, but alas he never paid for them, in spite of the fact that we sent him regular monthly statements. After we had sent about half-a-dozen such statements one of them was returned to us with a covering letter from the dominee's wife telling us that Ryden was no longer living with them. Reading in between the lines it appeared that he was both a self-invited and unwelcomed guest.

The next we heard from the mysterious Ryden was after we had re-located activities to the UK, when he wrote us an antagonistic letter out of the blue from Sweden, in which he revealed that he had evidently renounced Christianity and had adopted some very left-wing pro-Iraqi views - and furthermore criticised our own pro-Israeli stance!

After we established our web-site during the late 1990's he again contacted us out of the blue however, and informed us that he had now become a firm believer in eugenics, and asked to be placed on the SCN circulation list.

Now, as we say, he seems to have made a radical change in views yet again, and not only has asked to "unsubscribe" because of our attacks on the traitor Kemp, but has also once more expressed some very left-wing opinions - and has furthermore ridiculously criticised us for allegedly being anti-Semitic (in other words making exactly the opposite comments about us as he made a decade earlier!).

There is certainly something very odd and sinister about this Ryden character therefore, and we would certainly like to learn more information about him. We have heard the rumour that he once served a prison sentence in Sweden, but don't know the details. We would therefore be most grateful to receive any fuller information about this most suspicious individual and his history.

As we have learnt of several important forthcoming events and developments since producing the March edition of the SCN, we thought that we would therefore issue this special intermediary edition.

SPRINGBOK CLUB "INTERNATIONAL" GET-TOGETHER IN STOCKHOLM

We have just learnt the full itinerary of Nick Maine's (our outgoing SC Australian co-ordinator) forthcoming tour of Scandinavia, and it turns out that he will be arriving in Stockholm on the evening of Thursday 19th April, and leaving again on the evening of Saturday 21st April.

We are therefore arranging our get-together with Nick on the evening of Friday 20th April. The actual venue is still to be finalised, but it will undoubtedly be somewhere in the centre of Stockholm, fairly convenient to where Nick's ship will be docked. Full details of the venue will of course be given in the April edition of the SCN.

This get-together will of course be of an informal nature, but it will give an opportunity for all our Scandinavian supporters, as well as those from the UK and elsewhere in Europe who can make the trip, to meet Nick, and therefore to discuss the relative growths of the Springbok Club in various parts of the world.

ANTI-MUGABE DEMONSTRATIONS

Supporters of various branches of the MDC (Movement for Democratic Change) in the UK, as well as many other concerned people, are planning two protest demonstrations in London next week.

The first will take place on Monday 19th March outside the Commonwealth Offices in Pall Mall (Marlborough House), from 11.00 hrs to 13.00 hrs.

The second will take place on Tuesday 20th March outside Zimbabwe House in the Strand, again between 11.00 hrs and 13.00 hrs.

The purpose of these demonstrations is to protest against the draconian and escalating human rights violations by the Mugabe regime in "zimbabwe" (specifically the attacks upon the judiciary, the independent press and freedom of association and movement), and to demand that unless such abuses are halted that Mugabe's zimbabwe should be suspended from the Commonwealth. All those who are opposed to Mugube's tyrannical rule are invited to join these demonstrations.

Christopher Gill was one of the 8 famous Conservative "rebels" against the Maastricht Treaty, and has recently announced that he will not be standing for re-election at the next General Election, but will shortly be taking up the position as Chairman of the Freedom Association.

There is an open invitation to attend this meeting, but all non-Swinton Circle members will be asked a nominal entrance fee of £1.00. (It is also now anticipated that a number of prominent representatives of the MDC will be present at this meeting).

In the December 2000 edition of the SCN we expressed our pleasure at the election of George W. Bush as the 43rd President of the United States of America, and prophesied that this would mean more powerful assertion of Western interests around the globe. 

It hasn't taken long for this prediction of ours to be proved correct, for after eight years of cowardly inaction and pussyfooting by the previous American administration, effective action has now at last been taken against the tyrannical regime of Saddam "the Madman" Hussein in Iraq.

Of course we (and all others on our wavelength around the world) argued at the time of the Gulf War in 1991 that the job had never been finished, and that the allied forces should have proceeded to Baghdad in order to topple the murderous despot. History has proved us correct, for undoubtedly if the job had been properly finished in 1991 then the world would now be a far better and safer place, and a lot of innocent people (including most citizens of Iraq itself) would not have suffered the way they have.

We therefore salute the actions of the current American administration in so effectively neutralising the Iraqi war machine in Baghdad - and hope that this will send the necessary message to other terrorist tyrants around the world. Terrorist tyrants like Mbeki and Mugabe.

SPRINGBOK CLUB TRIP TO THE BRITISH EMPIRE & COMMONWEALTH MUSEUM

The Springbok Club's visit to the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum in Bristol proved to be a good and most enjoyable success, with members and supporters both from London and several parts of Wessex attending.

Although the museum itself proved a little disappointing due to the fact that it unfortunately still hasn't been completed (entirely due to the fact that they haven't been able to obtain the expected and necessary funding), the specific section which we went to see - the Rhodesian Army Association exhibition - more than made up for this disappointment. This exhibition, which chronicles the history of Rhodesia from 1890 to 1980, was extremely impressive, and indeed, as several visitors commented, inspirational. Of special significance, however, was the centrepiece of the exhibition, the famous RLI "Trooper" War Memorial which had been spirited out of Rhodesia when Mugabe gained power and erected on the banks of the Limpopo in Messina, but now, upon the accession of the terrorists in South Africa also, has been rescued once again and now proudly stands in Bristol. Needless to say full respects were paid by all members of the Springbok Club party at this war memorial.

Our thanks and congratulations must go to Brig. Pat Lawless who has been the driving force behind the entire exhibition, and who so kindly arranged for us to make this visit. Congratulations must also go to those other supporters of ours and members of the RAA who have worked so hard to establish everything on display.

We were told that the main British Empire & Commonwealth Museum should be completed in about 18 months time, so we have therefore made tentative arrangements to make another visit there sometime during 2003.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB EVENTS

In April our out-going Australian SC co-ordinator, Nick Maine, will be touring Scandinavia, and will be in Stockholm towards the end of the month (though unfortunately at present we don't know his precise dates). This will therefore provide an ideal opportunity for members and supporters from Scandinavia, as well as those from the UK and elsewhere in Europe who can make the trip, to meet up with Nick to learn a bit more about the development of the SC in Australia. A rendezvous with Nick in Stockholm is therefore being arranged, and needless to say full details will be notified to everybody as soon as the precise date and venue have been finalised.

The SC's spring braai will be held in May this year, and we are hoping to be able to hold it at a new and more convenient location in south-west London.

Later during the year we are anticipating welcoming interesting guest speakers from South Africa, the United States and Canada. We are also planning to hold a "Lincolnshire weekend" in the autumn, as we now have several supporters based in that county.

Needless to say full details about all these forthcoming events will be included in future editions of the SCN.

FUND RAISING APPEAL

Undoubtedly the problems which engulfed the Springbok Club in November of last year would not have been so severe if we had had a firmer financial base. After much discussion it has therefore been decided that it is essential to try to establish a strong capital base for the re-constituted organisation to prevent any possibility of the same problems occurring again.

In addition we have recently been offered some most generous terms in order to stock and retail two South African published books in the UK, which could act as an excellent capital investment for us. In order to take advantage of this offer, however, we need initially to raise at least £200.00.

Certainly one of the best methods to help the Springbok Club in this regard - if you haven't already done so - is to take out membership. Life Membership of the SC costs £500.00, Annual Full Membership £20.00 and Annual Associate £5.00. If we are successful in raising the necessary funds for this book offer then all those who take out Life or Full Membership will receive complimentary copies of the two titles in question.

No.29 :  Mr. DONNY McCALLUM of Yellowwood Park

Donny McCallum originated from the Greenock/Port Glasgow area of Renfrewshire, and emigrated to South Africa around 1980, living first on the Bluff in Durban, and then moving to Yellowwood Park. He was a great and committed Loyalist, and played an active role in the establishment and development the Durban Branch of the Rangers F.C. Supporters Association. He was also a good supporter of a number of domestic patriotic South African organisations. We believe that he has probably now returned to the UK however, and has probably settled somewhere in the west of Scotland, but would be very keen to re-make contact with him wherever he now is.

OUT OF AFRICA

Our friends from the "Out Of Africa" magazine have recently forwarded us the following most interesting article, which illustrates the reality of current-day Africa:-

NIAMEY (Reuters) - A court in Niger handed a man who dismembered his cousin and ate bread soaked in his blood the minimum sentence of 10 years in prison, saying the gruesome killing had spared other people's lives.

The victim, Souley Halidou, had killed two of his relatives and threatened to murder more over a land dispute in the West African country.

Witnesses said the village of Moli, some 40 miles from the capital Niamey, had lived in terror since Halidou hired a town crier to announce that he would kill again.

On January 13, 1996, his cousin Hassan Salou, who said he feared for his own mother's safety, decided to take the law into his own hands and beat Halidou to death with a stick.

Salou then cut him to pieces with a machete and ate a blood-soaked piece of bread before going to the police with the left arm of his victim.

The court accepted the defense argument that ``mitigating circumstances'' were behind the killing when sentencing Salou on Tuesday.

``I was perfectly sane, I wanted to protect my mother and the others in the village, because everyone wondered who would be Souley's next victim,'' Salou told the court.

``Why did I dip the bread in his blood? I wanted to feel that he was dead, to convince myself that he wouldn't bother anybody anymore.''

MURKIER AND MURKIER

A few months ago an article appeared in the "Aida Parker Newsletter" written by Arthur Kemp concerning the demise of the AWB outfit in South Africa (only about 7 years late!).

Shortly after we initiated the SCN we were subjected to an irrational and inexplicable vendetta campaign by a woman named Jenni Logan who evidently ran the "Aida Parker Newsletter" web-site, merely because we refused to make this web-site of hers our "Recommended Web-Site of the Month" EVERY month. Arthur Kemp, on the other hand, had previously been a seemingly good friend of ours (indeed often writing for S.A.Patriot), but surprisingly dropped all contact with us a few years ago, before subsequently making some ludicrous and completely unsubstantiated claims that we had "changed our political views". Subsequent investigations revealed that Kemp was undoubtedly in the pay of the "new" South African authorities - something which we later discovered had been previously revealed by the "Mail & Guardian".

This connection between those who have been attacking us doesn't end there however. A couple of years ago we were advised to join an Internet discussion group called the "Rhodesia List". Believing it to be an authentic group supporting the Rhodesian cause we did so, but were immediately subjected to some fierce, unexpected and slanderous attacks by two members of this group, a certain George PARKER and a certain Ron Tuohy. Parker had earlier been a subscriber to the SCN, but had "unsubscribed" because he objected to our rejection of the ANC flag and emblems, but Tuohy was a complete stranger to us. These inexplicable attacks became more and more vitriolic and personal, until they eventually publicised an obscure but libellous web-page attacking us written by the Logan woman. The obscure nature of this web-page meant that they must have been advised about it, thus proving that there must have been a connection between the "Aida Parker Newsletter" and the Parker/Tuohy partnership which involved more than just a common surname. Shortly afterwards this present writer was kicked off this list by the weak administrator (merely for defending himself, and objecting to some apparently pro-terrorist sentiments expressed by Tuohy), but other supporters who have remained on this List have reported that they have recently publicised another obscure but libellous web-page attacking us by a subsidiary of the "Mail & Guardian".

Arthur Kemp had previously written a quite ridiculous book about the AWB outfit around 1990 (exaggerating its size and importance out of all proportion), which was used by the sell-out authorities in South Africa at that time in order to gain publicity for this absurd anti-English-speaking organisation, thus enabling them to divide and discredit the authentic opposition to their sell-out proposals at the 1992 Constitutional Referendum. Kemp now however publicises this preposterous hagiography of his on an American-based web-site called "Storm Front" - which is overtly neo-Nazi in nature. Someone else who has a web-page linked to "Storm Front" however is Mark Cotterill - who like Kemp originally posed as a friend, but who then went out of his way to sabotage the White Rhino Club (the forerunner of the Springbok Club), before having to flee from the UK to the US after making far too many enemies.

We do not wish to seem paranoiac, and have never been "conspiracy theorists" in any way, but there just seem to be far too many connections between all those who have been attacking us over the years - Cotterill, Parker/Logan, Parker/Tuohy and Kemp - to be pure co-incidence. There are probably three points which we should learn from all of this however:-

1) That we are completely correct to try to avoid all connections with "off the edge" extremist organisations. Not only are such organisations reprehensible in themselves, but they are also probably infiltrated up to the eye-balls.

2) The fact that the Springbok Club and linked organisations have been subjected to so many attacks over the years proves that we have definitely "registered on our enemies radar screens", and that our achievements are therefore probably far greater than even we ourselves realise.

3) The fact that the Springbok Club has survived in spite of all these attacks which our enemies have thrown at us means that we have succeeded, and therefore can now only grow in strength.

OBITUARY

ANITA COETZER

It was with great sadness that we recently learnt of the sudden and unexpected death of Anita Coetzer. Anita was born in the UK, but emigrated to South Africa as a small girl with her family. Here she met her husband Wentzel (it was the second marriage for them both), and they moved up to Rhodesia together, living both in Salisbury and in "the bush". After the fall of Rhodesia they moved to the UK together, and became very active in the Rhodesians Worldwide organisation. They both held office in the Kent Branch, with Anita producing and supplying the excellent boerewors which was always available at branch braais. Wentzel sadly suffered much ill-health during recent years, and Anita unselfishly devoted much time to nursing him. Her untimely death is therefore even more tragic. Our thoughts and sympathies therefore go out to Wentzel and all their family.

February 2001 edition

As everyone with any knowledge of South African affairs is aware, South Africa's best overseas friend during the period of civilised rule and international "sanctions" was the state of Israel. Dr. D.F. Malan was the first overseas leader to make an official visit to Israel after the state was founded, and the close friendship and co-operation between the two nations was not surprising given the fact that they faced the same enemy - Marxist-backed terrorism.

The fall of South Africa to these same forces of terrorism was a bitter blow to Israel, but the nation has steadfastly - and successfully - maintained her own battle against the forces of darkness.

Paradoxically it has probably been the fact that Israel possesses two political groupings of roughly equal strength who alternate terms in power which has enabled the state to continue to survive. In South Africa, with only one conceivable party of government (the NP), all the enemy had to do - and which they did do successfully - was to infiltrate and control that governing party. In Israel, however, the dual-party system has made this tactic impossible, as if any one party starts to surrender then the other will automatically gain in popular support.

That is the situation which we witness today. The Labour Party of Ehud Barak have been prepared to appease the PLO terrorists, most reprehensively by selling out the Christians of South Lebanon (a similar act of betrayal to that of Vorster's sell-out of Rhodesia in the late 70's), but the result has been predictable, as the PLO have only intensified their terrorist acts in Israel itself.

This is where Israel has been fortunate however, for a "no nonsense" alternative government is now waiting in the wings in the form of Ariel Sharon's Likud coalition. Ariel Sharon (who evidently was a particular friend of civilised-ruled South Africa) has a justified reputation as a strongman who will stand up to terrorism, and who consequently [at the time of writing] looks like heading for a landslide victory.

We wish Ariel Sharon every success in next Tuesday's Israeli general election therefore. Not only will his victory be good for Israel itself, but it will also confirm a fundamental shift towards the forces of Conservatism throughout the western world, following the marvellous victory of George W. Bush in the United States. The future seems increasingly bright.

SPRINGBOK CLUB RE-CONSTITUTION MEETING

The Springbok Club was successfully re-constituted at a meeting on Saturday 27th January 2001. The meeting was called to order by Mr. David Williams (a founder member of the original Springbok Club), and the following motions were proposed and passed unanimously: 1) That the Springbok Club should officially be re-constituted, 2) That the constitution of the original Springbok Club should be adopted unamended for the new organisation, and 3) That all earlier memberships should be considered as valid for the new organisation, with the exception of that of Mr. A.W. Yates who had written a formal letter of resignation.

Following this the committee of the new Springbok Club was elected: this basically took the form of the existing committee of the original Springbok Club, with the exception that Mr. David Williams resumed his earlier position as Treasurer (though he expressed the hope that this would only prove a temporary appointment), and that Mr. Bill Binding joined the committee as Branch Development Officer. In addition Mr. David Williams was appointed the official Springbok Club photographer, and Mr. Colin Lucas took over as leader of the Kent Branch.
    
After this formal part of the meeting we were pleased to welcome Mr. Allan Robertson (the Chairman of the "London Swinton Circle") as our guest speaker. Mr. Robertson spoke about the relevance and importance of the Act of Union of 1800, which came into force on 1st January 1801, and whose bi-centenary we should therefore be celebrating this year. After outlining the details of the Act of Union and the many benefits which it conferred to Ireland, as well as to the United Kingdom as a whole, Mr. Robertson went on to criticise the manner in which the Blair administration had failed to honour this important anniversary, in spite of the fact that Blair seemed eagerly willing to commemorate events not directly connected to the British nation and people. He furthermore emphasised the point that the Act of Union led to "...the British nation state's 19th century rise to power, the spread of the English language around the globe, and the planting far across the seas of English-speaking nations with British parliamentary institutions" (such as [prior to 1994] in South Africa). Mr. Robertson finally reminded everyone that other important anniversaries are approaching this decade, such as the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Trafalgar on 21st October 2005, and the 25th anniversary of the liberation of the Falkland Islands on 14th June 2007.

[We have recently heard the worrying news that Mr. Bill Yates has contacted (albeit some time ago) certain members of the organisation to order to ask for "cheques" for no apparent reason. We would remind everybody therefore that this gentleman no longer has any connection to the Springbok Club whatsoever.]

TRIP TO THE BRITISH EMPIRE & COMMONWEALTH MUSEUM

The Springbok Club will be staging an excursion to the British Empire & Commonwealth Museum in Bristol on Saturday 24th February 2001 (a date chosen deliberately because there is no international rugby on that day!).

This museum includes a special exhibition arranged by the Rhodesian Army Association on the history of Rhodesia from 1890 to 1980, and we are arranging for a special guided tour of this section to take place.
The British Empire & Commonwealth Museum is situated immediately next to Bristol Temple Meads Railway Station, so we will be rendezvousing there at approximately 12.10 hrs, so that we can meet those who travel from London on the 10.15 hrs train from Paddington, which should arrive at Bristol Temple Meads at 12.02 hrs. (Incidentally, for those planning to travel by train to Bristol on the day it will probably be best to purchase an Apex ticket before travelling, which costs only £18.50 return, as against the cheapest return ticket which can be purchased on the day, which costs £32.00).

Several supporters are however planning to journey to Bristol on the Friday and to return on the Sunday so that they can see a bit more of the city, and we are making enquiries concerning suitable accommodation accordingly. If you would also like to obtain overnight accommodation then please let us know.

Whatever the circumstances, however, please let us know if you are interested in joining this trip as soon as possible, and what your travel plans are expected to be, so that we can organise the tour arrangements accordingly.

BRANCH DEVELOPMENT

As stated earlier, Mr. Bill Binding has taken over as the Springbok Club's Branch Development Officer, and will be contacting all those who have established branches, or who have expressed interest in establishing branches, shortly.

Because of his many other commitments Nick Maine would really like to relinquish his position as Australian Co-ordinator of the Springbok Club if possible. We have many supporters in Australia, so wonder whether anyone would be keen to take over this position from Nick? If so please contact him direct at :-

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE MEETINGS

The London Swinton Circle has two most interesting meetings arranged at the Houses of Parliament during February.

The first will be addressed by the Rt. Hon. David Davis MP, the Conservative Member of Parliament for Haltemprice and Howden and former Minister of State at the Foreign Office. This will take place on Tuesday 6th February 2001 at 18.15 hrs for 18.30 hrs, in Committee Room 13 of the House of Commons.

The second will be addressed by William Ross MP, the Ulster Unionist Member of Parliament for Londonderry East, and will on the subject of the current military situation in Northern Ireland. This will take place on Tuesday 13th February 2001 at 18.45 hrs for 19.00 hrs, also in Committee Room 13 of the House of Commons. 

In both cases entry should be made via St.Stephen's entrance, and it will be best to check with the police at the gate to confirm the committee room involved (which couuld always be altered at the last minute), quoting the speaker's name concerned.

Frank (or Francis) Beukes worked for SATS and lived in Clark Road, Durban. He stood as an independent conservative candidate in the 1984 Durban Municipal Elections in the Essenwood Ward, and obtained an unexpectedly high number of votes. A friendly and genial man, he was initially very interested in the South African struggle "in exile".

During both the 1983 and 1992 Constitutional Referendum campaigns those of us who were actively opposed to the proposals (including most notably the late, great Jaap Marais) warned that if approved the new constitutions would lead inevitably to the destruction of the South Africa which we knew and loved, and the wholesale renaming of all traditional placenames. Those who supported a "Yes" vote dismissed these claims as alarmist, but subsequent events have proved - yet again - that we were completely correct.

Already we have seen the PWV region renamed "Gauteng" (or some such ridiculous name), and the South-East Transvaal given an even more unpronouncable title. Now, however, we see plans to enact an even more widespread renaming programme: Pretoria is to become "Tshwane" (evidently literally "Monkeytown"!), Durban is to become "Tkhweni", and most sickening of all Port Elizabeth is to be renamed after the convicted terrorist criminal Mandela (there is of course a precedent of renaming a city after a murdering terrorist - Ho Chi Minh City).

By all accounts most White South Africans are now "up in arms" over these renaming proposals, but those who complain should surely be asked one simple question: "How did you vote in the 1983 and 1992 Referendums?". If they answer "Yes" then they only have themselves to blame.

SPRINGBOK CLUB RE-CONSTITUTION RECEPTION

Happily we can report that the problems which engulfed the Springbok Club towards the end of last year now seem to have been almost completely overcome. There have been three unofficial and/or informal gatherings held during the last few weeks, and the overwhelming sentiment has been that we should continue and officially re-constitute the organisation as soon as possible. Even more encouraging has been the reaction of so many of our other supporters from around the world, for we have been absolutely overwhelmed (and indeed rather touched) by the messages of support which we have received, and by the encouragement which we have received to carry on.

An official re-constitution reception and meeting has therefore been arranged for later this month, the details of which are as follows:-

Date :  Saturday 27th January 2001

Time :  19.30 hours

Venue:  The MORPETH ARMS (the Upstairs Function Room), 58 Millbank, Westminster, London SW1 (near to the Tate Gallery and Vauxhall Bridge)

This meeting will commence with the formal re-constitution of the organisation, followed by the election of officers for 2001, following which two (or possibly three) most interesting talks will be delivered. Springbok Club Chairman Peter Fisher has agreed to give a "report-back" talk on his recent visit to Gambia, and Allan Robertson, the Chairman of the London Swinton Circle (who recently had an excellent letter published on the subject in the "Daily Telegraph"), will give a brief talk on the importance of this year's 200th anniversary of the Act of Union (the United Kingdom's 200th birthday).

It is also hoped that buffet snacks will be provided at this reception, to make it an even more memorable event. This however depends upon the necessary finances being available. Already three supporters have each donated £25.00, which will enable us to cover all the postage and administrative expenses to advertise and organise this meeting, but if we could receive only three more such donations then we will be in a position to order a decent spread of buffet snacks accordingly. TRIP TO THE BRITISH EMPIRE & COMMONWEALTH MUSEUM

TOM HAWKINS

In the December edition of the SCN we reported the sad news about the death of Tom Hawkins, the great patriotic activist from Durban. Since then we have received a report from Nicky Lamprecht (the Springbok Club's liaison man in Durban) who attended Tom's funeral. He writes as follows:-

"I spent quite a lot of time with Tom, obviously to me today not enough time. I went to his funeral and knew quite a few of his mourners from around Durban, but the only political colleague there was old Ted Cowden. I really felt sorry for him because I know that he and Tom were good friends. Well that is the end of a hero, one who fought in the Congo and Rhodesia against Communism, alas one who never lived to see the freedom of our people. I shall always hold a special memory for Tom our friend."

ZIMBABWE POLITICAL PRISONERS
  
One of our supporters has written to remind us of the continuing plight being suffered by the "Harare 3", political prisioners still being held in Mugabe's jails. He writes as follows:-

"We remain concerned at the continued imprisonment of Kevin Woods, Michael Smith and Philip Conjwayo. These three men are political prisoners who fought against the communist take-over of Rhodesia. President Mugabe has refused to release them, despite the personal appeals of Nelson Mandela.
"The men are kept in horrible and unsanitary conditions, including a lack of toiletries and hot water, lice and human waste on blankets, and worse things.

"Friends are invited to send them non-political reading material at: [Their Name], Chikurubi Prison, Greedale, Harare, Zimbabwe."

No.27 :  Mr. HEINRICH MATTHEE of Stellenbosch

Heinrich Matthee both lived in Stellenbosch and studied at Stellenbosch University, we believe reading law. He was one of the earliest - and strongest - supporters of "S.A.Patriot", and indeed wrote a number of articles for the magazine under a pseudonym. We first met him in person at the 150th anniversary celebrations of the Great Trek just outside Pretoria in 1988 and were very impressed with the man, and would very much like to re-make contact if possible.

ATTACKS AND SMEARS

A few months ago we were contacted by a woman named Ilda Jacobs who was evidently a Washington-based South African freelance journalist who had seen the SCN, and who said that she wished to write an article on our organisation and activities for publication in South Africa.

She evidently worked for an organisation called "Matheson Communications", which is apparently run by an existing subscriber of ours in the United States. We therefore checked out her bona fides, and were assured that she was a good, objective journalist who could be relied upon to write a balanced - even favourable - report about our movement, so we therefore co-operated with her fully.

Although she seemed very friendly and appreciative after we forwarded her answers to all the questions which she had asked, we heard no further word from her. Early last month, however, we were alerted by a supporter who had seen a vile smear-article about us which appeared on an obscure African internet news service. This smear-article carried the by-line of this Jacobs woman and someone named Justin Arenstein, and was based upon a total distortion of the answers which had previously been given. To say that it was a piece of shoddy journalism would be an understatement, for in fact it was a total disgrace to the journalistic profession, being written from an extreme biased left-wing perspective. It was full of misquotes, misrepresentations and indeed downright lies about what we had been told to her. Furthermore the writers seemed to be pig-ignorant about South African history, for they appeared oblivious to the fact that Mandela had been sentenced to life imprisonment for terrorist activities!

Fortunately, as we say, this smear-article (plus a pathetic follow-up) appeared on a totally obscure African internet news service, so its exposure was therefore extremely limited, and indeed we have received no further reports about it.

Shortly after this we were contacted by a man named Richard Barrett from Mississippi in the United States who runs an organisation called the "Nationalist Movement", and who indeed this present writer met when he toured the UK in 1989.

Again contact with this gentleman initially seemed very friendly, and we gave him a lot of first-hand information about the South African situation. The outcome of this, however, was that he posted a most offensive item attacking us on his curiously-named "Crosstar" web-site, in which he bizarrely accused us of "waging war against the Boers [sic]", and then went on to make a number of totally untrue and defamatory allegations.

Closer investigation of this "Crosstar" web-site suggests that it clearly has neo-fascist sympathies, and as with the Jacobs/Arenstein combo has a very ignorant knowledge of South African affairs - apparently believing that the absurd and now totally exposed AWB outfit has some form of significant relevance!

As one supporter from the United States has accurately observed, if we are attacked by both the extreme left and the extreme right then we must be doing something correct!
