November 2012 edition

On 22^nd September Corrie Sanders, who was briefly WBO World Heavyweight Boxing champion in 2003, was callously murdered at a country lodge restaurant near his home town of Brits in the Transvaal. Sanders was shot through the stomach by armed robbers of the restaurant. There is no possibility that he was deliberately targeted, as one of the robbers evidently cried out “shoot the big fellow”, clearly indicating that they didn’t know who he was. Sanders died in the local hospital the following day, and there has been speculation that if he has access to first-world healthcare his life could have been saved.

Callous murders during armed robberies such as that of Sanders are actually commonplace in the “new” South Africa, but are rarely reported – especially in the outside world – mainly because of the draconian restrictions placed on the reporting of crime incidents and statistics enforced by the ANC regime. Occasionally however, when a famous person such as Sanders, or Marike de Klerk (the wife of former State President FW de Klerk), rugby player Solly Tyibilika or visiting Austrian football official Peter Burgstaller are involved, then it is impossible to keep the outrage out of the papers. In practically every other country on earth the murder of just one famous person such as these would be astonishing – let alone four within a few short years!

Farm murders in South Africa – some 4000 since the ANC were handed power in 1994 – have been the one exception to the crime reporting blackout of course. Although it is most praiseworthy that there are those who publicise this terrible killing epidemic, the fact remains that the murder rate in inner-city areas is undoubtedly even higher – and involves mainly White pensioners trapped in decaying urban flats.

But it is not only violent crime which threatens the lives of all who remain in or who visit the “new” South Africa. As the speculation about Sanders’s death in hospital confirms, the quality of medical care has fallen to third-world standards, and road and rail maintenance is so poor that transport accidents are a constant hazard no matter how one travels.

In the recently released latest South African Census the White population was given as just over four and a half million. In 1990 the White population was estimated at around six million. This 25% decline has not only been due to all the large number of sensible Whites who have managed to escape the disintegrating country, but also by the out-of-proportion death-rate. Although many White South Africans – particularly the elderly – are simply unable to leave the country, the vast majority of the remaining four and a half million should have no problem in re-settling somewhere in the civilised Western world. If they do not, and choose to remain in the crime-ridden collapsing “new” South Africa, then they are potentially signing their own death certificates.

Michael Thorburn’s father settled in the then Nyasaland as part of a British Officers’ settler scheme shortly after World War I. His mother hailed from a colonial family from Queenstown, Cape Province. Michael himself was born in the district of Cholo, Nyasaland, just south of Blantyre, but shortly afterwards the family bought a farm on the Hunyani River near Salisbury in Southern Rhodesia. He was educated at Plumtree School and Falcon College, before moving to the

to obtain a degree in Agricultural Engineering at the University of London. Upon returning to

he worked for the Tobacco Research Board, before taking over the family farm in 1965. He served with the Rhodesia Regiment during his National Service, before transferring to the BSAP Reserve, where he was attached to the Police Anti-Terrorist Unit (PATU). In 2007 his farm was seized by the ZANU-PF regime, and he moved to the

in 2010 with the aid of a British scheme for farmers who had lost their farms. He now lives in Suffolk.

Michael Thorburn is currently heavily involved with the Ceremony of the Hoisting of the Flag, an annual event which takes place in Norfolk commemorating and re-enacting the foundation of

Rhodesia

on the 13^th September 1890. In his talk Michael will tell something about his Rhodesian experiences, as well as describing details about the Ceremony of the Hoisting of the Flag, and explaining why it is so important that this commemoration continues.

For this dinner it has been arranged that all in attendance should order and pay for their meals individually. The Melton Mowbray offers a wide selection of high standard food, and a copy of their menu will be forwarded upon request. SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS

The Swinton Circle joined forces with New Britain last month in order to take part in a weekend’s special Trafalgar Festival. Full details are included in the New Britain News section.

On Tuesday 20^th November the Swinton Circle will be addressed by a famous former Conservative MP and MEP in central London, commencing at 19.00 hrs. Full details about this event will be posted to all members of the Swinton Circle, as well as a special e-mail notification being circulated.

In December it is anticipated that the Swinton Circle will be addressed by a sitting DUP MP, and in early 2013 by a leading peer of the realm

NEW BRITAIN NEWS

New Britain’s special Trafalgar Festival last month turned out to be a good success. Although the planned initial trip to Chatham Dockyard had to be postponed because of the inclement weather (this trip is now being re-arranged for the Spring of 2013), the subsequent reception at Blackburn in Lancashire, which was attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn, proved to be a well-attended and enjoyable occasion. On the following day the wreath-laying service conducted at the grave of Admiral Viscount Nelson in St.Paul’s Cathedral was a truly memorable and inspiring event. After the actual wreath-laying ceremony itself a small party of New Britain and Swinton Circle members journeyed on to pay a visit to the near-by Hall of the Stationery and Newspaper Makers’ Livery Company, where a fascinating conducted tour of the Hall was given by Mr. Giles Fagan of the Stationers and Newspaper Maker’s Company, and the day was rounded off by a convivial get-together and meal at a adjacent hostelry.

New Britain will be attending a ceremony to commemorate Falkland Islands Battle Day at the Cenotaph in Whitehall on Saturday 8^th December at 10.30 hrs, and on Saturday 26^th January 2013 will be staging an event to celebrate Australia at the statue of Admiral Arthur Philip (founder and first governor of New South Wales) behind St.Paul’s Cathedral, commencing at 14.00 hrs. The Swinton Circle, along with a number of other patriotic organizations, has been invited to participate in both these events, and will be giving them its full support.

RECENT NEWS FROM THE AUSTRALIAN MONARCHIST LEAGUE

We have recently received the following most encouraging news release from the Australian Monarchist League, which, although now rather dated, tells of their successful campaign to persuade the Australian Broadcasting Corporation to cover this summer’s Queen’s Jubilee Barge Procession along the Thames :-

”In a turn-a-round reminiscent of the BBC initially refusing to televise the funeral of The Queen Mother, the ABC will now be airing the Jubilee Barge procession from 10.30 pm on Sunday 3 June 2012 EST.

”We are delighted to advise that Australian Monarchist League member. Owen Palmer, will be on board his former boat, the Havengore, as it takes it place in the Barge Procession carrying several members of the Royal Family. Accordingly to royal.gov.au: ‘The Duke of York, Princess Beatrice,

MESSAGE FROM THE SANWILD WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

We have recently received the following somewhat disturbing report from Louise Joubert of the SanWild Wildlife Sanctuary :-

“Our financial situation regarding the feeding, care and upkeep of the SanWild lion prides has reached critical proportions once again, and we are in serious financial trouble.

“Our previous mailing in which we appealed for funding to feed and care for the SanWild lion prides resulted in almost no response whatsoever. To add insult to injury the promised ‘adoptees’ for the two new lion cubs Jessie and Sassy, which were purchased by a well meaning volunteer from a breeding project in South Africa’s infamous captive lion breeding and hunting industry, never materialised, and we are now faced with the additional costs of caring for yet another two innocent lions that were in desperate need of help.

“Providing a safe sanctuary to large predators remains a daunting task simply as a result of the massive financial implications. The SanWild lions cost our small charity almost R600,000 per annum and we receive no government support. The safety of the lions depends completely on the goodwill of kind-hearted animal lovers who have helped us support the animals since their confiscation from intended illegal hunts or illegal captive breeding projects.

”We urgently call on you to help us to continue to provide a safe sanctuary for this group of very special lions by making a donation a.s.a.p., or by booking your next holiday at one of our Bush Camps. If our appeals should fail and the sanctuary be forced to close as a result of us not being able to care for the lions, the chances are pretty good that all the animals will be sold off to professional hunting outfitters or lion breeding projects that supply lions to the trophy hunting industry or for the Chinese market that use lion bones to manufacture “lion wine”. It will be a tragedy and some animals that have become dear to us all will suffer and possibly die a horrible death!

CHURCHILL ON ISLAM

A supporter has recently sent us extracts from a most interesting speech made by Sir Winston Churchill in 1899. It reads as follows :-

SIGN OF THE TIMES

Sir,

The following excellent and challenging letter appeared in the Cape Times of June 28^th :-

MR.PRESIDENT, YOU’RE IN CHARGE, NOT WHITE MEN

I note that you have once again launched an attack on White males, on the basis that the economy is still in their hands. This, you say, represents a continuation of the apartheid era, and must be changed.

I have some bad news for you. The economy isn’t in the hands of the Whites. It’s in YOUR hands. What you meant to say, of course, is that the Whites own the businesses, which is another matter entirely.

However, dispossessing the Whites of their businesses is not a solution. It can be done, but, as in the case of farms, the businesses will simply collapse if their owners do not have the qualifications and work ethic to keep them running. And then you won’t have an economy. Think about that carefully, Mr President.

You claim that the ANC has built nearly 3 million houses, but you delude yourself. You didn’t build them. WE did.

You claim to be providing grants to 15 million people, but you’re not. WE are. You are not supporting your wives and children. WE are.

You are on a hiding to nothing, Mr President. You can “redistribute” as much as you like, with or without compensation, but the smartest burglar in the land cannot get into the head of a competent person and steal his ability.

So those who you dispossess will simply start again, either here or elsewhere. And if it’s elsewhere, you won’t be able to get your hands on their money next time round.

What will you do then, Mr President, when there’s no one left to take from? Start taxing your own people? I’d love to see you try.

There is only one solution. We must educate our people – by which I mean the poor, who you say you care so much about. We must train them so that they too can succeed in the world of business.

We must address the work ethic, and get away from the absurd belief that “There shall be” something, just because the Freedom Charter and the ANC say so.

We must make it possible for people to have faith in themselves, and learn that they can create prosperity for themselves instead of forever seeking it in the form of compensation for past injustices.

I fear that, with the attitudes of you and your party, this simply isn’t going to happen. The only Black people who are going to be truly successful will be those who can free themselves from the notion that salvation lies in what you can take from somebody else.

And, of course, they will need a decent education, and they’re certainly not getting that from you.

ROGUES GALLERY

Long-standing readers will probably remember the name of “Snowy” Smith, a Durban-based Internet activist who seemed to be doing an excellent job alerting everyone to the chaos and disasters of ANC rule, and in particular to the ecological nightmare engulfing the “new” South Africa due to untreated pollution. Indeed we ourselves organized a viewing of an excellent CD entitled “Photos of Durban” illustrating the collapse of that once great city produced by Mr Smith.

Alas, however, about a year or so ago all that changed, and Mr Smith stopped blaming the ANC regime, the real culprits, for the destruction of civilized South Africa, but instead started blaming an entity which he simply referred to as “the Jews”. Furthermore, he started blaming “the Jews” for seemingly all and every disaster occurring anywhere in the world in a most deranged and paranoid manner. Even Islamic terrorist atrocities such as the 9/11 outrage and natural disasters such as Hurricane Sandy were blamed on “the Jews” by Mr Smith, with no form of evidence whatsoever offered for these most lunatic claims. By so doing Mr Smith has of course been insulting the memories of all the innocent victims of 9/11 and Hurricane Sandy etc in the most vile and disgusting manner imaginable.

It is uncertain therefore whether Mr Smith has experienced a complete brainstorm because of his total devastation with the ANC destruction of his country and is therefore now certifiable insane – or whether he is a conscious agent of the ANC regime whose task is to discredit authentic opposition to their misrule by floating the most ridiculous anti-Semitic allegations (and we of course remember the manner in which the sellout NP government used the pantomime AWB outfit to divide and discredit genuine resistance to their surrender plans during the 1980s). Even more concerning is the fact that in spite of repeated requests to Mr Smith to stop sending us all his offensive poison he continually refuses to do so – and even his ISPs, yahoo.com and fastmail.fm, have refused to act to prevent his unsolicited outpourings. If anyone knows how we can stop all his evil nonsense fouling our in-boxes then we would be very grateful to learn.

One thing is for certain however, and that is that Mr “Snowy” Smith should now be avoided like the plague – and if the reason for his current deranged lunacy is because of a genuine mental breakdown then to hope and pray that he somehow receives the psychiatric help which he so obviously desperately needs.

October 2012 edition

In the February 2012 edition of the SCN we expressed some misgivings about the suitability of Mitt Romney to be the GOP candidate for this year’s U.S. Presidential election. Since then, of course, Mitt Romney has been chosen as the GOP candidate, and we must therefore accept the choice which has been made.

Our concerns about Mitt Romney centred on his perceived pro-German sympathies and his Mormon faith – not that we object to anyone’s choice of religion, but rather because we worried that his faith would alienate a substantial percentage of the American electorate. As the campaign has progressed, however, it has become apparent that Mitt Romney is probably more pro-British than pro-German (as his high praise for Baroness Thatcher and his wife Ann’s effervescent pride in her Welsh ancestry confirms). Furthermore it has become clear that far fewer people than we originally imagined would be alienated by his Mormon religion. Most importantly, however, Mitt Romney possesses one most vital attribute when it comes to November, namely that he is not Barack Hussein Obama.

We were criticized by a number of American readers for stating in our February 2012 edition that Obama’s first term in office hadn’t proved as disastrous as we had feared. We stand by this assessment (after all he was prepared to dispatch the evil Islamic terrorist leader Osama bin Laden, and to continue with drone attacks against terrorist bases in Pakistan), but we must emphasise that this assessment was relative. Against the plus-factors from Obama’s presidency there have already been many minus-factors, most notably his headlong pursuit towards a socialist medical system and his withdrawal from Iraq and proposed withdrawal from Afghanistan before the Taliban terrorists have been annihilated. Furthermore, as we’ve observed in the past, many Donkey Party presidents have reserved their worst actions until their second term of office – just remember Clinton! Our fear, and this is a big fear, is that if Barack Hussein Obama is re-elected then he will enact a rapid de-Westernisation of the United States, hastening a process which was began under the Kennedy/Johnson administrations.

Of course the mystery remains about how Obama was ever elected president in the first place. Bizarrely there still seem to be many in the U.S. – and not just within the Donkey Party – who continue to believe that he was actually born in Hawaii, whereas of course elsewhere throughout the West it is generally accepted that all the evidence points to him having been born in Kenya. Be this as it may, nobody disputes that his father was the son of a primitive Kenyan goat-herdsman, his mother was a promiscuous atheist serial-miscegenist, and that he received his formative education at a Muslim madrassa in Indonesia – hardly, we would assert, the most ideal background for a leader of the Free World! This astonishing choice by the American people in 2008 could well have proved fatal for their country, and indeed for the world, and perhaps it was only a matter of luck that total disasters never occurred. It is a gamble which can’t be taken again in 2012 however.

Mitt Romney may seem to be an unlikely saviour of the West, but there were far worse possibilities, even among this year’s GOP contenders. It is essential that he is victorious in November therefore, as it may be the West’s last chance for salvation – and we’re not being over-melodramatic. We wish him well.

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS

In September the Springbok Club staged a trip to Greenwich in order to see both the restored Cutty Sark and Greenwich Park, the venue for all the Equestrian Events at the recent London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. As well as visiting these two planned locations the Springbok Club party also toured Greenwich Palace, where they were able to see the famous painted ceiling featuring King William III and Queen Mary II seated in splendour – which as this event took place on exactly the same day as the grand march in Belfast commemorating the signing of the Ulster Covenant (where a number of Springbok Club members from Ulster participated) proved a particularly appropriate setting!

On Saturday 20^th October the Springbok Club will be supporting a trip to Chatham Dockyard which forms part of New Britain’s special Trafalgar Festival. Full details of this event are included in the New Britain News section.

During the afternoon of Saturday 10^th November the Springbok Club will be staging its annual UDI Day commemoration dinner, at which a prominent ex-Rhodesian activist now resident in the UK will be guest of honour. This event will take place at a convenient venue in central London, and full details will be given in next month’s SCN.

SWINTON CIRCLE NEWS

The Swinton Circle held its 2012 AGM last month, at which a new Executive Committee was elected for the forthcoming year, and a minor amendment to the Swinton Circle Constitution regarding the timing of AGMs and the presentations of annual accounts was approved. After the business side of this meeting was concluded Mr. Gary Vincent gave an enthralling illustrated talk about the life and career of Col. Martin Bladen MP. Col. Bladen, who lived from 1680 to 1746, came from a prominent Yorkshire family and was the uncle of Admiral Lord Edward Hawke. After a successful military career, during which he served under Marlborough in the Low Countries, he entered politics, and finished his parliamentary life as MP for Portsmouth. One of his greatest achievements was the bringing to justice of the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin, and he is buried at St. Dunstan’s Church in Stepney, close to where the AGM took place.

On Monday 22^nd October the Swinton Circle will be supporting New Britain in their final day’s events in London which form their Trafalgar Festival. Full details are included in the New Britain News section.

In November the Swinton Circle will be addressed by a famous former Conservative MP and MEP, and in December by a DUP MP. Full details about both these events will be appearing in future editions of the SCN.

NEW BRITAIN NEWS

New Britain will be staging a special three-day celebration of Trafalgar Day this year over the weekend of 20^th/22^nd October. The details are as follows :-

1) A trip to Chatham Historic Dockyard (where HMS Victory was of course built) on Saturday 20^th October. Assemble at approximately 12.00 noon by the main entrance to the Visitor's Centre (near to the former Pembroke Gate). The day will consist of the laying of a wreath at the dock where HMS Victory was built, and then a general tour round the attractions of the Historic Dockyard, before a meal at one of the excellent restaurants now situated there. Cost of admission is £10.00 per person. Those travelling by train should disembark at Chatham Station (if travelling from London) or at Gillingham Station (if travelling from east Kent), and then taking a short bus journey to the main entrance of the Dockyard (bus route 1, among others, passes both stations and the Dockyard main entrance). Those travelling by car should follow the signposts to the Historic Dockyard as soon as reaching the Medway Towns.

2) A special reception at the Immanuel Church Hall, Pleasington near Blackburn in Lancashire on Sunday 21^st October, commencing at 15.00 hrs, at which it is anticipated that the Mayor and Mayoress of Blackburn will be in attendance.

3) Participation in a wreath-laying ceremony at Admiral Viscount Nelson’s grave in St.Paul’s Cathedral on Monday 22^nd October at 11.00 hrs, followed by a visit to the near-by Hall of the Stationery and Newspaper Makers’ Livery Company, and then a buffet lunch at the crypt of the church of St. Magnus the Martyr near London Bridge commencing at 14.00 hrs. A charge of £6.00 per head will be asked for this buffet lunch. There be a small charge of £6.00 per head for the buffet lunch.

New Britain is also planning to stage events to commemorate Remembrance Sunday in November and a special Falklands Island celebration in December. More details will be given in future editions of the SCN.

OPEN MESSAGE TO ANDREW MARR FROM THE AUSTRALIAN MONARCHIST LEAGUE

We have recently been informed of the following excellent and encouraging letter written by Mr. Philip Benwell, the National Chairman of the Australian Monarchist League, to the BBC presenter Andrew Marr regarding certain errors relating to Australia’s constitutional position in an otherwise excellent programme which he presented about the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee. It reads as follows :-

”Dear Mr Marr,

”In your otherwise excellent programme The Diamond Queen, you say in episode 3 that 'Oaths of Allegiance have been removed in Australia'. This is manifestly untrue as we would have advised had you contacted us, as defenders of our Constitution and our Monarchy instead of speaking only to Australian republicans.

”Accordingly to our Constitution, which can only be changed by a referendum vote of the people: "OATH. I, A.B., do swear that I will be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth, Her heirs and successors according to law. SO HELP ME GOD!"

”It is too late now to correct the false impression you have given. You bear a great responsibility to ensure that your comments are factual. In this regard you have failed.

PLEA FROM THE INTERNATIONAL FUND FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

The following most distressing appeal has recently been received from thee IFAW :-

“I'm sickened by a recent attack on elephants, and I'm writing you with this urgent plea to help them.
”IFAW staff have just returned from Bouba Ndjida National Park in Cameroon where we witnessed the aftermath of a horrifying slaughter of these majestic animals.
”To date more than 300 elephant carcasses have been found and poachers have claimed a total of 650.
”That's almost half the Park's total population of these beautiful creatures slaughtered - in just a couple of months!
”Entire elephant families – in Cameroon and in other countries - are being wiped out by assault rifles, stabbed with poison spears, even electrocuted with hidden cables!
”We need to train and equip rangers to protect our majestic elephant friends.
”We need to end the illegal trade in elephant ivory by continuing our groundbreaking law enforcement work with INTERPOL and our critical training of customs officials.
”We need to protect vital elephant habitat and care for the animals wherever they live.
”We need YOU.

”You can help stop the elephant massacre.
”Ivory poachers will stop at nothing to get their hands on ivory.
”And these killers are using a sickening new method: they trap a baby elephant and wait for its mother to come to rescue it. When the mother arrives, they spray her with bullets and kill her in cold blood.
”Please protect elephants from these vicious, ruthless killers.

”Elephants are so much like us. Females in particular are very family-oriented and social. They care so deeply for their young they will risk their own lives to protect them. And they grieve for their lost loved ones, often standing vigil over their bones for days on end and even "burying" them with brush and dirt.
”There's no denying - they need and deserve our protection. And they had it – for a short time. The trade in ivory was banned in 1989. Demand dropped and poaching plummeted.
”But some governments got greedy. They wanted to sell their huge stockpiles of ivory in so-called ‘one-off’ ivory sell-offs.
”The ‘one-off’ sale of 1999 was followed by a second in 2008...and the message was clear for the poachers: since governments will eventually sell the ivory, let's kill elephants, collect their tusks, and slip our illegal ivory into the legal market.
”Elephants are dying every day because of this illegal trade, and they need your help now.
”Please give now to stop the elephant massacre.

”Together we can make a better tomorrow for elephants and all animals.
”Thank you.”

John Hirst, an ex-South African, initially made friendly contact with us several years ago. Evidently a teacher by profession, he was living at the time in the Bexley area of south-east London. Alas the recent few circulars which we’ve sent him have been returned as his last known e-mail address is evidently no longer recognized, and it appears that he has moved residential address also. We would very much like to re-make contact with him however, so if anyone can help we’d be most grateful.

I see that you’ve had some problems from someone called Ryan Marcovich.

I therefore went to the trouble of searching him out on FaceBook. It was quite some problem as he’s evidently adopted the weird middle name of “Ofthefamily” – but I got there in the end.

His FaceBook Cover Picture contains the mask of the Marxist “Occupy” movement, and also seems to advertise a subversive left-wing gathering. Definitely not someone who stands for what we stand for therefore! Also, when you read his “About Me” section he seems a bit of a nutter.

GERMAN MASTER PLAN

Sir,

Re. the Greek economic catastrophe. As anyone with any sense of reality could have predicted, the entire Euro project - a "one size fits all" idea whereby all the great nation-states of Europe surrender their economic independence to the most powerful member - was destined for failure and disaster.

Great success for Germany however. Look at a map; do you realise that Greece is the perfect jumping platform, neatly in the middle, from Germany to the oil in Iraq? Much easier than shipping it via the Mediterranean Sea around Portugal to Germany, especially now that the Muslim Brotherhood is controlling most of North Africa.
