November 2018 edition
The results of the US mid-term elections were of course very mixed, but the fact that the GOP managed to retain their majority – indeed to increase it – in the strategically more important Senate was of course very encouraging. Some of the other more specific results however show that there is still something very, very nasty existing in the fringe of US society.
Perhaps a more significant recent election result elsewhere in the Americas provided an even greater degree of hope for the future of the West however. This of course was the decisive victory in the Brazilian presidential election for the anti-Leftist candidate Jair Bolsonaro. Although it is commonly assumed that Brazil is a majority non-White country and therefore (like most of Latin America) part of the so-called “third world” this is not the case in reality. Brazil was founded and developed by the Portuguese, and a clear majority of its citizens have majority Portuguese blood in their veins (albeit, of course, that the precise population of Brazil is unknown because of the large number of unenumerated indigenous tribes in the Amazon jungle). Jair Bolsonaro is not of Portuguese descent however, as both sets of his grandparents emigrated from Italy – thus proving that other European peoples as well as the Portuguese helped in the creation and civilising of this new Western-orientated nation.
Brazil is without doubt an advanced and civilised nation today, and this was nowhere better demonstrated than at the 2016 Rio Olympic and Paralympic Games, which all agree were superbly organised and matching the incredibly high standards set by the previous Barcelona, Sydney and London Games. Indeed it could be speculated that just as the triumphant successes of the 2012 London Olympic and Paralympic Games boosted British self-confidence and created a national feel-good factor which enabled the “Vote Leave” cause to be victorious at the 2016 “Brexit” Referendum, so also did the successes of the 2016 Rio Games boost Brazilian national self-confidence and the feel-good factor which enabled Jair Bolsonaro to be victorious in 2018!
During the early 1970s the patriotic Portuguese government of Marcelo Caetano actively promoted the idea of closer Portuguese/Brazilian links, in much the same manner as the close fraternal links which Britain had earlier established with the core Commonwealth nations of Canada, Australia and New Zealand (this, it should be remembered, was prior to Britain’s and Portugal’s entrapment within the EU). We wonder therefore whether Jair Bolsonaro’s fantastic victory in the Brazilian presidential election might herald a renewed period of close Portuguese/Brazilian relations, which hopefully could thereby trigger an outcome of “Pexit”!
But there has been another recent under-reported manifestation of pro-Western sentiment in an unlikely part of the world. This happened at a referendum on independence in the French overseas department of New Caledonia in the Pacific. “Received wisdom” was of course that the majority of New Caledonian people would opt for independence, but the result actually proved to be decisively the other way as they voted to remain French by 56.4% to 43.6%! As the majority of electors in New Caledonia are non-White this shows once again that the benefits of benign civilised Western rule are appreciated by far more non-White peoples than international liberal/leftist forces would have us believe!
The results in both Brazil and New Caledonia have therefore clearly shown that the great patriotic revolution started in 2016 firstly in New Zealand, then in Britain and subsequently in the United States, is continuing during 2018, not only in Italy but also in other more unlikely parts of the world. Viva o Brasil, Viva Portugal, Vive la France!

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
A contingent of Springbok Club members and supporters joined the Rhodesian Army Association’s annual Remembrance Day service outside Westminster Abbey on Sunday 11th November. This proved to be an extremely well organised and moving event honouring and remembering all those Rhodesian servicemen and women who fought and died during two World Wars, the counter-insurgency campaign in Malaya and the Bush War against Terror, and all involved with the RAA and other Rhodesian ex-service organisations who assisted in staging this solemn ceremony are to be greatly congratulated. Pictures of the highly impressive Colour Party who paraded at this ceremony were taken, and will be appearing on both our web-site and FaceBook page shortly.

We are most happy to be able to announce that arrangements for a replacement flag-raising ceremony for 2018 ensuring the continuity of the annual “Raising of the Flag” event which took place at Cecil Square, Salisbury, from 1890 until 1980, and every year since then at Southrepps, Norfolk, have now been finalised!
This will now take place during the afternoon of Saturday 1st December at Bath in Somerset (only about a mile from Bath Spa Railway Station), and will involve an actual re-enactment of the 1890 Raising of the Union Flag, short speeches about the historic and present-day significances of this event, and the serving of drinks and light refreshments. Although the event this year will by necessity be lower-key than normal (though it is still hoped that some form of musical accompaniment to enable the national anthems to be sung will be obtained) this event will even so provide continuity for this important ceremony, and thereby will enable us to fulfill the promise which we made to the late, great Peter Sladden.

PATRIOTIC FORUM NEWS
The Patriotic Forum held a most interesting meeting last month as a belated celebration of Gibraltar Day. At this event a talk was given about the life and achievements of Mr. Les Hompstead, who sadly died in August and whose obituary appeared in the September Edition of the SCN. [ At this meeting two unknown ladies turned up but who subsequently disappeared saying that they’d come to the wrong venue – in spite of earlier stating that they had come for the “Gibraltar meeting”! We wonder therefore whether anyone has any idea who these two ladies were (one gave her name simply as “Vivienne”), and what was behind their quite strange and worrying disappearance. We can certainly assure them that although not initially known to us they were definitely most welcome!]

THE IMPERIAL PATRIOT
Since our report in last month’s SCN that significant numbers of copies of the first re-branded edition of The Imperial Patriot had not been delivered to overseas subscribers – particularly in Australia – we have learnt that one of the originally believed undelivered copies sent to Australia has actually arrived. Conversely, however, we heard from one supporter in South Africa that his copy still hadn’t been delivered. MESSAGE FROM THE ZIMBABWE CONSERVATION TASK FORCE
We have recently received the following important message from the Zimbabwe Conservation Task Force. It reads as follows :-
“Zimbabwe lost approximately 750 elephants to cyanide poisoning along the Save River in the south eastern part of the country. Poisoning elephants results in a significant secondary loss of carnivores, vultures, and other species of birds and animals. The authorities have NOT managed to control or stop the use of poison, especially cyanide. The poisoning of elephants occurred far too often for at least three to four years. The damage being done to animals and their habitats will not be recoverable.
“The Government Ministers, Military Officers, Prison Service Officers and other VIPs are lining their pockets with monies derived from poached ivory and game skins. These individuals are thought to engage in these activities due to the possibility that ZANU-PF might lose the elections in August. The Government does not appear to enforce the laws or the Wildlife Act as the practice of profiting from poached ivory and animals is so widespread. It seems to be a free for all.’
“One solution would be for all Ministers and individuals in high positions to declare their assets and the manner in which they obtained their wealth. For those who decline to declare their assets, an investigation into their financial dealings should commence. Corruption appears to run deep. Assets from individuals who cannot explain their fortunes should be frozen until an investigation is completed and they are cleared from wrongdoing.
“The Ministers and/or their families who have camps near Safari areas or Wildlife Parks seem to be benefiting from the influx of trophy hunters from South Africa. Monies gleaned from these hunters from hunting quotas and license permits seems questionable. This practice appears to be happening all over the country with no apparent controls in place.

FUTURE UK FIXTURE LISTS
Changes have recently been announced to the main fixture structures for both Rugby Union and Cricket in the UK. Although they do contain some good proposals, we are afraid that we do not believe that the overall changes are anywhere near ideal.
In Rugby Union it is proposed that the season in England should be extended to almost 10 months (the end of August to the beginning of June), with a short break in December, even lthough no additional teams are to be added to the Premiership. We believe, however, that the season for Rugby Union (as also for all winter team sports) should be no more than 8 months, running from September to April, in order to prevent player exhaustion and to allow the elites to take part in more meaningful tours of southern hemisphere countries. There would then be no need for any illogical break during the middle of the season, and furthermore the Premiership could be extended to 14 clubs, thus stymieing the even more retrograde idea which has been bandied around of “ring-fencing” the clubs playing in the top league. To prevent fixture congestion the number of Autumn Internationals could be reduced and the “Premiership Cup” abolished, to be replaced by a straight knock-out cup competition involving all teams from the leading half-dozen or so leagues.
In Cricket the proposal is to increase the First Division of the County Championship to ten counties, but to keep the number of first-class games played at fourteen, and to reduce the Second Division to only eight counties. The move to increase the number of counties in the First Division is greatly to be welcomed of course, but why not increase the number of games played to the logical number of eighteen? This could easily be achieved by introducing shorter breaks between games and thus staggering match start-dates throughout the week – and perhaps also by reducing the number of “white ball games”, particularly of the T20 variety. The Second Division should also be increased to ten counties, with Devon and Staffordshire currently seeming the most likely to be in a position to accept the two extra places. Perhaps a Third Division could also be established from the remaining top ten Minor Counties?
In both sports, however, the longer-term ambition must be to create league structures which involve teams from throughout the British Isles.

TAU (SA) MEDIA RELEASE
We have recently received following most hard-hitting Media Release from the Transvaal Agricultural Union (South Africa), which re-emphasises the dangers faced by the South African farming community (and South African society in general) by the land theft proposals of the current ANC regime It reads as follows :-
“Farmers in the Eastern Cape are unanimous in their rejection of the legalised theft of their farms and are preparing themselves to protect their legal property with everything at their disposal.
“Johan Steyn, TLU-SA Eastern Cape Chairman, released this statement after an e-conference for TAU (SA) Eastern Cape members this weekend. ‘TAU (SA)’s objective is to ensure producers remain on their farms under sustainable and economically viable conditions, to the benefit of all in South Africa. With the publication of a list of 195 farms identified for legalised theft by the ANC, the government has left farmers with no alternative but to protect their legal property by any means.’
“Steyn said that farmers will not allow Communist-inspired government policy to remove them from their farms nor to steal them. He further pointed out that the assumptions upon which the government’s policy is based, consist of lies and misrepresentations.
“’No land has been stolen by white farmers. This is our property which has been bought and upon which interest, tax, transfer and registration fees have been paid. Farmers, as a result of their contribution to all residents of South Africa, should be regarded as a national asset. In reality though, the government treats us as the enemy. We consider the government’s objective to steal our property - of any nature whatsoever - as a declaration of war and we will react accordingly.’
“He continued by saying that farmers wish only to be left alone to fulfill their calling in life; to produce affordable food and fibre for every South African. Steyn emphasised that farmers acquit themselves of their task admirably while earning considerable foreign currency for the country.
“’The ANC continues to prove that they are not interested in facts, reason, dialogue nor economic realities. They continue to trample and ignore the rights of Whites in general and farmers specifically, all the while adopting an antagonistic stance towards these citizens of this country. We continue to pray for peace and prosperity for our country but will protect our legal property with all means possible. The ANC is forcing this upon us.’
“Steyn requested the government to come to their senses and prevent a tragedy of immeasurable proportions in South Africa.”

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.240 - Mr. G.C.CRADDOCK of New Germany
Mr. G.C.Craddock of New Germany in Natal (alas his Christian name has been forgotten with the elapse of time, but is believed to have been George) was a keen member of the patriotic movement in southern Natal during the 1970s. He was a one-time Mayor of New Germany, and thereby a very influential figure, and was an early subscriber to S.A.Patriot magazine. Alas he seemed to disappear from the scene during the early-1980s, so it would therefore be very interesting to learn whatever happened to him.

I attended a talk yesterday evening, 16th August, by Dr Dore Gold, former Israeli Ambassador to the UN, at Moriah College, Sydney on "defeating global anti-semitism". He was particularly emphatic about how dangerous UK Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn is and that his election to be Prime Minister of Britain would give a huge boost to latent anti-semitism there and unleash in fact a "tidal wave of anti-semitism.". He said it goes back to 2009 when Corbyn described Hamas and Hezbollah as his friends. Also said Jeremy Corbyn had laid wreaths at the graves of the Black September terrorists in Tunisia..

OH, TOMMY, TOMMY
Sir,
I am still following the Tommy Robinson case almost daily through the avenue of YouTube. How this man can handle all the attention and pressure, particularly when he has a family, is absolutely amazing, and to be persecuted, hated, reviled and accused of all sorts of things of which he is innocent of, is remarkable. Just a working-class man who is standing up to the "establishment".
On September 3rd is our National Flag Day and we will be having an afternoon tea at the Tasmanian Parliament House with Senator John Dunium as guest speaker. The day is in honour of the Australian National Flag when it was first flown on 3rd September 1901.

BBC’s “EMPIRE” SERIES
The BBC’s series about the British Empire, simply entitled “Empire”, which was presented by Jeremy Paxman and recently repeated on BBC2, was a rarity in modern television history, as it gave a very neutral and objective account of the history of the greatest Empire which the world has ever known. Although it recounted several of the perceived failures and faults of the Empire, it also in equal measure reminded everyone of the Empire’s many virtues and achievements.
One particular section of this series was especially educative and revealing, and this concerned a little-remembered lecture given in 1864 by Dr. James Hunt, FRS, then the President of the London Anthropological Society, entitled “On the Negro’s Place in Nature”. In this lecture Dr. Hunt illustrated clearly the many physical, mental and moral characteristics which distinguish the Negro from the European White Man. Although this speech evidently attracted criticism from the “politically-correct” egalitarians of the day, he did give air to opposing viewpoints during his lecture, as well as backing-up his own findings and conclusions with detailed research analysis published by other expert anthropological academics both from the United States and continental Europe.
Dr. Hunt’s scholarly work and lecture have alas been forgotten in these subsequent “politically correct” times – that is until this recent BBC series revived interest in the subject (albeit in a rather cynical and negative manner). Dr. Hunt’s research results have however stood the test of time, and as anyone with first-hand knowledge of Negros can confirm are just as valid in the 21st century as they were in the 19th century when they were written. October 2018 edition
At the time of writing there are only 165 days left until Britain finally leaves the hated European Union. The final exit agreement has still to be settled of course, and many are concerned that the Government of Theresa May might deliver a less than satisfactory deal, particularly any such agreement based upon the proposed so-called Chequers plan.
We agree of course that the Chequers plan is not ideal and does not offer the complete withdrawal from the EU which the majority of the British people voted for on 23rd June 2016 – but we must get real. A clear majority of MPs – both in 2016 and still today – supported Britain remaining in the EU, and there are furthermore a sufficient number of die-hard remoaners on the Conservative benches who might be prepared to side with Labour and other anti-Brexit forces in order to scupper the entire withdrawal process. Theresa May would never have been our first choice as PM of course, but the fact remains that she was a very soft remainer who is now committed to some form of Brexit, and was far preferable to the only other realistic successor to David Cameron, namely George Osborne. Any attempts to unseat her as Conservative Party leader prior to 29th March 2019 would undoubtedly be counter-productive therefore, as it would only unite all anti-Brexit forces in the House of Commons and thereby mean that the entire Brexit process could be wrecked. We know that already sinister pro-EU forces are campaigning for a second referendum, which would be heavily financed by continental powers in the hope of giving “legitimacy” to the stymying of the will of the people.
It is surely important therefore for the Conservative Party to remain united behind Theresa May – hard Brexiteers, soft Brexiteers and reluctant remainers alike – until after all the necessary legislation successfully passes through Parliament and Brexit can be officially achieved on 29th March. To be sure, there will undoubtedly be certain aspects of the deal which we – and indeed the majority of the British people – do not like, but it must be born in mind in this regard that after Brexit has been achieved then it will be relatively easy to loosen any remaining ties to the EU, but practically impossible to make them any stronger! If the majority of Conservative Party members then believe that it is time for Theresa May to go then there will still be three years before the next general election in order to replace her with a more committed Brexiteer – but up until then the maxim for us all must be “don’t rock the boat”!
There is one matter regarding the Brexit negotiations where compromise cannot be contemplated however, and that concerns Northern Ireland’s continuing position as a full and integral part of the United Kingdom. In this respect the fact that Theresa May’s Government is totally dependent upon DUP support is a magnificent advantage. We wonder therefore whether there may have been some form of providential intervention involved which caused the Conservative Party to fail to obtain an absolute majority in 2017!
So what therefore is the solution to the border issue? As we argued in the editorial of the December 2017 Edition of the SCN, the idealist solution would be for there to be a referendum in the Republic of Ireland upon their continued membership of the EU – and in this regard it has been most encouraging to note that there has been growing support for this idea at grassroots level in the RoI!. If they were also to vote to leave then it would be “problem over”, as a free trade deal between the two states of the British Isles could quickly be enacted, and furthermore the RoI could leave the unstable Euro currency at the same time and re-join the far stronger Sterling zone (though perhaps resurrecting the “Punt” name within their own borders). If they were to vote to remain in the EU, however, then all blame for the re-establishment of a hard border could be blamed upon the RoI’s own decision!

On Friday 19th October the Springbok Club will be joining forces with the Patriotic Forum in order to stage a belated celebration of Gibraltar Day. Full details about this event appears in the Patriotic Forum News section below.

The Springbok Club will again be attending the annual Remembrance Day service outside Westminster Abbey staged by a number of Rhodesian ex-servicemen’s organisations in order to commemorate all those Rhodesians who died during the two World Wars, the Korean War and the Bush War against terrorism This event will commence at approximately 10.45 hrs on Sunday 11th November. After this service a replacement flag-raising ceremony will take place to provide continuity for the annual “Raising of the Flag” event, though it is still intended that this ceremony will be resumed at its traditional setting in Southrepps, Norfolk, from 2019 onwards.

In December the Springbok Club will be staging an informal event to celebrate the Day of the Vow, at which it is hoped that a prominent expatriate South African will say a few relevant words.

PATRIOTIC FORUM NEWS
The Patriotic Forum staged a most interesting meeting last month which was addressed by Mr. Bob Vinnicombe from Sydney, Australia. In a highly enlightening talk Mr. Vinnicome detailed the events which occurred during the recent dramatic change in Australian Prime Ministers, and also told of his own impressions regarding the new Australian PM, Scott Morrison.

In order to hold a belated celebration of Gibraltar Day, the Patriotic Forum and Springbok Club will be staging a joint meeting later this month, the details of which are as follows :-

Venue : The Antelope (the upstairs "Snug Room"), 22 Eaton Terrace, Belgravia, London SW1W 8EZ (nearest tube station: Sloane Square).
This meeting will feature a talk about the life and achievements of Mr. Les Hompstead, who sadly died in August and whose obituary appeared in the September Edition of the SCN. Although not a Gibraltarian himself, Les Hompstead served as the head civilian in charge of Gibraltar Dockyard for three years, and as a result became a staunch friend of Gibraltar and supporter of its cause.

On Thursday 15th November the Patriotic Forum will be holding a special meeting in central London which will feature a guest speaker who was a leading Brexit campaigner and who has strong connections to leading US political figures, and who furthermore lectured extensively in the US about the global significance of Britain’s exit from the EU. The Patriotic Forum also plans to stage a special event to celebrate Falklands Islands Battle Day in December. Further details about both these activities will of course be given in future editions of the SCN.

THE IMPERIAL PATRIOT
Although the majority of copies of the first edition of the re-branded The Imperial Patriot were posted out to the majority of subscribers to the former S.A.Patriot/S.A.Patriot-in-Exile outside the UK during July and early August, we have become increasingly concerned by the fact that we have so far received no responses whatsoever from any of these overseas subscribers. Even more worryingly, we have now heard from four subscribers (three from Australia and one from the Philippines) who have confirmed that they have DEFINITELY not received their copies. Non-delivery to the Philippines is probably not too surprising as it is a third world country (and the same probably applies to the non-responses from any of our hundreds of South African subscribers), but the fact that copies evidently have not been delivered in Australia and that we have received absolutely no responses from any subscribers in continental Europe, North America and New Zealand is extremely concerning. We do not believe in conspiracy theories of course, but even so the apparent non-deliveries of so many copies around the world makes us wonder whether something more sinister than simply poor postal services is at play here.
So that we can analyse the precise nature of the problem a lot better we wonder therefore whether all subscribers from outside the UK can let us know whether they have or have not received their copies yet. A simple “yes” or “no” response sent to: springbk@netcomuk.co.uk is all that we need.

MESSAGE FROM THE SANWILD WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
In the May 2018 Edition of the SCN we reported on the tragic death of Louise Joubert, the founder and driving force behind the estimable Sanwild Wildlife Sanctuary. We had hoped to carry a full obituary to Louise in a future issue, but unfortunately in spite of trying to obtain more details about her life and achievements we have not been able to obtain any such in-depth information, but we have recently received the following circular message from her daughter Lizel Kachelhoffer who has taken over the running of the sanctuary from her mother. It reads as follows :-

”It has been a very challenging month and a half since my Mum unexpectedly passed away in a car accident. I want to thank each and every one who has contributed towards our Memorial Fund for Louise Joubert, to help with the immediate feeding costs for the lions and grazers. With your help we raised $7,265 on PayPal which enabled us to settle the R58, 000 invoice for the teff (grass) that my Mum ordered before she passed away with the balance going towards buying food for the 11 lions on SanWild.
“The Bodhi Foundation and Starkraft also donated funds to help us feed the animals and we are truly grateful for all the many caring individuals who came to our aid during this incredibly difficult period. I don't know how to thank everyone enough.

THE RYDER CUP AFTER BREXIT
This year’s Ryder Cup, which saw Europe beat the United States at Le Golf National in Paris, will of course go down in history as the last Ryder Cup match to be played before Brexit. This fact of course has not been lost on many observers, with the 2018 European Captain, Thomas Bjorn, banning all mention of it to the media. There will however undoubtedly now be a big question mark placed over the competition’s future structure. Although the most logical change would be to revert to its original structure of the United States playing only the British Isles rather than the entire European continent (a reversion made appealing because of the growing one-sidedness of the competition over recent years and the increasing prowess of British golfing strength), but as we suggested in the October 2016 Edition of the SCN a fascinating alternative would be for the competition to be opened up to all nation-states with a structure (albeit on a bi-annual basis) similar to that used in the Davis Cup up until this year. Alas no-one in authority seems to have taken up this suggestion, so what happens from 2020 onwards is therefore anyone’s guess. One thing is for certain however, and that is that in future years there should be far fewer displays of the hideous EU flag!

THE QUEEN’S 21st BIRTHDAY RADIO SPEECH
It has recently been revealed that the Queen’s famous 21st birthday speech, which was broadcast seemingly live around the world on radio from Cape Town, was actually recorded some week or so earlier, not in Cape Town (where she, then simply Princess Elizabeth, was staying at the time of her 21st birthday) but in the then Southern Rhodesia, not far from Victoria Falls. As Southern Rhodesia has often been described as the gem of the British Empire, and as Victoria Falls was named after the Queen’s illustrious great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, this would therefore have seemed a most appropriate setting! In this speech, which was addressed to all the children of the British Empire and Commonwealth, she stated: “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great Imperial family to which we all belong.” The Queen’s life has indeed proved to be long, but alas has also witnessed the near destruction of Britain’s “great Imperial family” which she pledged to devote the rest of her life to serving. Even more sickening has been the fact that those two great member states of this “great Imperial family” which she was visiting when she made this wonderful speech (Southern Rhodesia) and where she was when it was broadcast to the world (South Africa) have been handed over under her watch to evil terrorist regimes. Perhaps it would be best if we were to comment no further.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.239 - Mr. EARL BRAND of Durban
Earl Brand (it is uncertain whether “Earl” was his real name or simply a nickname which he preferred to use) lived in Prince Street, Durban, during the 1980s. Although he was a supporter of both the Conservative Party of SA and the original Durban-based Patriotic Forum he was not one of their most active members – though he was unquestionably genuine in his support and was extremely proud of his British-South African roots. He had actually visited the UK in order to support the Springbok Rugby tour of 1969/70, as we recounted in the December 2004 Edition of the SCN. Perhaps his most important contributions to the patriotic movement in Durban, however, was in alerting local activists to a Cape Town newspaper article which revealed that the then little-known AWB outfit had functioning Coloured branches in the Western Cape, and that they referred to the Coloured people as “brown-skinned Afrikaners” – thus confirming the totally phony nature of this anti-English-speaking outfit. Earl Brand was already a quite elderly man in the 1980s, so it is doubtful therefore whether he is still alive, but even so it would be very interesting to learn what became of him.

FAREWELL TO A TRAITOR
We will not be sending a wreath to the funeral of R.F. “Pik” Botha, who died on 12th October aged 86. By kow-towing to the international leftist community and to the ANC terrorists “Pik” Botha showed that he was a traitor not only to his own South African nation, but also to Western civilization in general. Whether he was a left-leaning fellow-traveller by nature, or simply “went native” during his period as South Africa’s ambassador to the United Nations and the United States is unknown, but what is indisputable is that he was a dominant power behind the throne to both P.W.Botha and F.W.de Klerk and encouraged them both not only to abandon the natural policy of separate development in South Africa but also to surrender their country to the tender mercies of ANC terrorists. He was actually even too extreme in his willingness to betray his own people for most fellow-members of his sellout National Party, as the derisory votes which he obtained when he twice bid for the NP leadership confirms (in reality though this didn’t matter, as once in power both P.W.Botha and de Klerk proved equally willing to surrender their country!). Once the sellout to the ANC terrorists had been completed “Pik” Botha quite openly revealed his true colours, not only by being willing to embrace the unreconstructed terrorist leader Mandela, but also by accepting a cabinet post in the new ANC government (albeit the quite humiliating position of Minister of Mineral and Energy affairs!). Furthermore, by all accounts one of his final pronouncements was to express pleasure at the fact that the Mandela-close Ramaphosa was now in charge of the “new” South Africa! Perhaps the most telling story about him involved an incident that happened at a small dorp in the Cape during the late 1980s. The dominee of the local NGK had evidently heard the rumour that a current cabinet minister was a practicing Satanist. Although the dominee didn’t name the cabinet minister accused (and indeed he probably wasn’t aware of his identity himself) everyone in the congregation immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was “Pik” Botha! If indeed this was true then he is probably a very happy man now, for undoubtedly a hotter place in hell has been reserved for him as punishment for all his treason!

In a highly enlightening talk Mr. Vinnicome detailed the events which occurred during the recent dramatic change in Australian Prime Ministers, and also told of his own impressions regarding the new Australian PM, Scott Morrison.

This meeting will feature a talk about the life and achievements of Mr. Les Hompstead, who sadly died in August and whose obituary appeared in the September Edition of the SCN. Although not a Gibraltarian himself, Les Hompstead served as the head civilian in charge of Gibraltar Dockyard for three years, and as a result became a staunch friend of Gibraltar and supporter of its cause.

THE IMPERIAL PATRIOT
Although the majority of copies of the first edition of the re-branded The Imperial Patriot were posted out to the majority of subscribers to the former S.A.Patriot/S.A.Patriot-in-Exile outside the UK during July and early August, we have become increasingly concerned by the fact that we have so far received no responses whatsoever from any of these overseas subscribers. Even more worryingly, we have now heard from four subscribers (three from Australia and one from the Philippines) who have confirmed that they have DEFINITELY not received their copies. Non-delivery to the Philippines is probably not too surprising as it is a third world country (and the same probably applies to the non-responses from any of our hundreds of South African subscribers), but the fact that copies evidently have not been delivered in Australia and that we have received absolutely no responses from any subscribers in continental Europe, North America and New Zealand is extremely concerning. We do not believe in conspiracy theories of course, but even so the apparent non-deliveries of so many copies around the world makes us wonder whether something more sinister than simply poor postal services is at play here.
So that we can analyse the precise nature of the problem a lot better we wonder therefore whether all subscribers from outside the UK can let us know whether they have or have not received their copies yet. A simple “yes” or “no” response sent to: springbk@netcomuk.co.uk is all that we need.

MESSAGE FROM THE SANWILD WILDLIFE SANCTUARY
In the May 2018 Edition of the SCN we reported on the tragic death of Louise Joubert, the founder and driving force behind the estimable Sanwild Wildlife Sanctuary. We had hoped to carry a full obituary to Louise in a future issue, but unfortunately in spite of trying to obtain more details about her life and achievements we have not been able to obtain any such in-depth information, but we have recently received the following circular message from her daughter Lizel Kachelhoffer who has taken over the running of the sanctuary from her mother. It reads as follows :-

”It has been a very challenging month and a half since my Mum unexpectedly passed away in a car accident. I want to thank each and every one who has contributed towards our Memorial Fund for Louise Joubert, to help with the immediate feeding costs for the lions and grazers. With your help we raised $7,265 on PayPal which enabled us to settle the R58, 000 invoice for the teff (grass) that my Mum ordered before she passed away with the balance going towards buying food for the 11 lions on SanWild.

THE RYDER CUP AFTER BREXIT
This year’s Ryder Cup, which saw Europe beat the United States at Le Golf National in Paris, will of course go down in history as the last Ryder Cup match to be played before Brexit. This fact of course has not been lost on many observers, with the 2018 European Captain, Thomas Bjorn, banning all mention of it to the media. There will however undoubtedly now be a big question mark placed over the competition’s future structure. Although the most logical change would be to revert to its original structure of the United States playing only the British Isles rather than the entire European continent (a reversion made appealing because of the growing one-sidedness of the competition over recent years and the increasing prowess of British golfing strength), but as we suggested in the October 2016 Edition of the SCN a fascinating alternative would be for the competition to be opened up to all nation-states with a structure (albeit on a bi-annual basis) similar to that used in the Davis Cup up until this year. Alas no-one in authority seems to have taken up this suggestion, so what happens from 2020 onwards is therefore anyone’s guess. One thing is for certain however, and that is that in future years there should be far fewer displays of the hideous EU flag!

THE QUEEN’S 21st BIRTHDAY RADIO SPEECH
It has recently been revealed that the Queen’s famous 21st birthday speech, which was broadcast seemingly live around the world on radio from Cape Town, was actually recorded some week or so earlier, not in Cape Town (where she, then simply Princess Elizabeth, was staying at the time of her 21st birthday) but in the then Southern Rhodesia, not far from Victoria Falls. As Southern Rhodesia has often been described as the gem of the British Empire, and as Victoria Falls was named after the Queen’s illustrious great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria, this would therefore have seemed a most appropriate setting! In this speech, which was addressed to all the children of the British Empire and Commonwealth, she stated: “I declare before you all that my whole life whether it be long or short shall be devoted to your service and the service of our great Imperial family to which we all belong.” The Queen’s life has indeed proved to be long, but alas has also witnessed the near destruction of Britain’s “great Imperial family” which she pledged to devote the rest of her life to serving. Even more sickening has been the fact that those two great member states of this “great Imperial family” which she was visiting when she made this wonderful speech (Southern Rhodesia) and where she was when it was broadcast to the world (South Africa) have been handed over under her watch to evil terrorist regimes. Perhaps it would be best if we were to comment no further.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.239 - Mr. EARL BRAND of Durban
Earl Brand (it is uncertain whether “Earl” was his real name or simply a nickname which he preferred to use) lived in Prince Street, Durban, during the 1980s. Although he was a supporter of both the Conservative Party of SA and the original Durban-based Patriotic Forum he was not one of their most active members – though he was unquestionably genuine in his support and was extremely proud of his British-South African roots. He had actually visited the UK in order to support the Springbok Rugby tour of 1969/70, as we recounted in the December 2004 Edition of the SCN. Perhaps his most important contributions to the patriotic movement in Durban, however, was in alerting local activists to a Cape Town newspaper article which revealed that the then little-known AWB outfit had functioning Coloured branches in the Western Cape, and that they referred to the Coloured people as “brown-skinned Afrikaners” – thus confirming the totally phony nature of this anti-English-speaking outfit. Earl Brand was already a quite elderly man in the 1980s, so it is doubtful therefore whether he is still alive, but even so it would be very interesting to learn what became of him.

FAREWELL TO A TRAITOR
We will not be sending a wreath to the funeral of R.F. “Pik” Botha, who died on 12th October aged 86. By kow-towing to the international leftist community and to the ANC terrorists “Pik” Botha showed that he was a traitor not only to his own South African nation, but also to Western civilization in general. Whether he was a left-leaning fellow-traveller by nature, or simply “went native” during his period as South Africa’s ambassador to the United Nations and the United States is unknown, but what is indisputable is that he was a dominant power behind the throne to both P.W.Botha and F.W.de Klerk and encouraged them both not only to abandon the natural policy of separate development in South Africa but also to surrender their country to the tender mercies of ANC terrorists. He was actually even too extreme in his willingness to betray his own people for most fellow-members of his sellout National Party, as the derisory votes which he obtained when he twice bid for the NP leadership confirms (in reality though this didn’t matter, as once in power both P.W.Botha and de Klerk proved equally willing to surrender their country!). Once the sellout to the ANC terrorists had been completed “Pik” Botha quite openly revealed his true colours, not only by being willing to embrace the unreconstructed terrorist leader Mandela, but also by accepting a cabinet post in the new ANC government (albeit the quite humiliating position of Minister of Mineral and Energy affairs!). Furthermore, by all accounts one of his final pronouncements was to express pleasure at the fact that the Mandela-close Ramaphosa was now in charge of the “new” South Africa! Perhaps the most telling story about him involved an incident that happened at a small dorp in the Cape during the late 1980s. The dominee of the local NGK had evidently heard the rumour that a current cabinet minister was a practicing Satanist. Although the dominee didn’t name the cabinet minister accused (and indeed he probably wasn’t aware of his identity himself) everyone in the congregation immediately jumped to the conclusion that it was “Pik” Botha! If indeed this was true then he is probably a very happy man now, for undoubtedly a hotter place in hell has been reserved for him as punishment for all his treason!

There has been something grotesquely sickening about the Labour Party uinder the leadership of the unspeakable Jeremy Corbyn. This has not so much been because of the vile anti-Semitism which has emerged in its ranks from the swamp, but more because of the total hypocrisy of those vomiting out such poison.
It is a truism that to the liberal-left for much of the 20th century all criticism or antagonism towards any non-White ethnic group has always been met with a Pavlovian reaction of condemnation and parrot-cries of “racism”, “xenophobia” and “hatred” etc., etc., but conversely they themselves now seem to have no inhibitions about voicing these same criticism and antagonism towards one particular basically White ethnic group – the Jewish people. Their hypocrisy is breath-taking.
Those who were aware of the full facts concerning South Africa’s battle for survival during the 1980s knew that the State of Israel was South Africa’s best and most reliable overseas friend, and that the two civilised Western nations both battling against the evils of international terrorism enjoyed close military, trading, technological and security co-operation. To be sure, there was a small clique on of self-hating Jews such as Joe Slovo and Helen Joseph who sided with the ANC terrorists (as indeed there were probably larger cliques of self-hating Afrikaners and self-hating British-South Africans who did similarly), but the vast majority of Jewish South Africans realised which side they should be on and sided with those who battled for the preservation of civilised rule in South Africa accordingly, as the high number of Jewish people who supported the Conservative Party well illustrates. Is it any wonder therefore that the anti-South Africans of Corbyn’s Labour Party should harbour such hatred for another ethnic group which is proud of its own identity?
One particularly bizarre outcome of Corbyn’s rabid anti-Semitism (or anti-Zionism as he euphemistically calls it – common code for those too cowardly to admit openly their paranoid hatred for the Jewish people as a whole) has been the support which he has been receiving on this issue from David Duke, the leader of one faction of the Ku Klux Klan. Under normal circumstances any person or organisation receiving support from the Ku Klux Klan would immediately be subject to fierce and prolonged condemnation by the united forces of the liberal-left, but in Corbyn’s case there has been hardly a whisper. This of course contrasts starkly with the attacks which our movement received when a false rumour was spread by The Guardian newspaper and other media outlets that one of our early stalwart members, the late and great Bill Binding, had been a member of the Ku Klux Klan (Bill Binding actually never set foot in the United States during his entire life!). Again the hypocrisy is breath-taking.
The desire of the Jewish people in Israel to develop separately from their Palestinian Arab neighbours, and thereby to protect their ancient and distinct culture and religion, is of course quite natural and to be applauded. We realise of course why, given its near universal pariah status, the word “apartheid” is always avoided and objected to, but what is the “two state solution” – which seems to be fully supported by practically all international powers – other than a system of apartheid on a grand scale?
On a similar theme, in his otherwise excellent speech condemning the reprehensible rise of anti-Semitism within Corbyn’s Labour Party, it was most unfortunate that former Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks chose also to condemn Enoch Powell’s prophetic “Rivers of Blood” speech of 1968. Rabbi Sacks should surely ponder that not only did Enoch Powell enlist in the ranks voluntarily to fight against the scourge of anti-Semitic Naziism at the very start of WWII (something which he later described as the single most important act of his life), but also that if his warnings had been heeded then there would not have been the subsequent Islamic invasion into the UK and so the spectre of anti-Semitism would never have been able to rise its ugly head – and in all probability there would therefore never have been any possibility of Jeremy Corbyn becoming Labour leader.

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
The Springbok Club staged a trip to the British Library last month in order to view a special exhibition being held there about Capt. James Cook entitled “James Cook: The Voyages”. This proved a highly enjoyable and informative trip, and as a result much was learnt about this great British explorer. There were alas a few concessions to “political correctness” in this exhibition, but encouragingly somewhat fewer than have been observed in other similar exhibitions staged in London during recent years. Following the visit to this exhibition the Springbok Club party adjourned to a near-by hostelry for convivial discussions about what they had just seen, and also to plan future Springbok Club activities.

Unfortunately, as all supporters probably by now know, this year’s planned staging of the annual “Raising of the Flag” ceremony at its traditional venue in Southrepps, Norfolk, has had to be cancelled. This has been because the necessary repair and refurbishment work at Southrepps Hall has proved to be far more extensive than was originally anticipated. Two important decisions have however been made and agreed upon which will ensure the continuity of this important and inspiring event:-
1) As the repair work at Southrepps Hall will definitely be completed by September 2019, the ceremony will therefore be "back to normal" at its traditional venue from that year onwards. The 2019 event will therefore take place at Southrepps Hall on Sunday 15th September 2019, and this will be the ceremony to be staged in special memory and honour of Peter Sladden. We ask everyone therefore to please diarise this date NOW!.
2) As we believe that it is important for continuity reasons that some form of "Raising of the Flag" ceremony still takes place this year, we are now therefore busily attempting to procure an alternative venue When finalised this event will undoubtedly be somewhat lower-key than normal, and as further planning will of course be required it will therefore we taking place a bit later than the original planned date of 16th September, perhaps in conjunction with the Springbok Club’s annual UDI Day celebration. If anyone can provide or suggest an alternative venue for this year’s event then please let us know. Needless to say, details about the replacement event for 2018 will be included in future editions of the SCN once finalised.

We have recently received the following most uplifting message from the Network for Animals organisation. Although the story itself is very encouraging, the terrible background it portrays still illustrates the disastrous descent into chaos which has taken place in the “new” South Africa. The message reads as follows :-
“A little while ago, we told you the story of Mr. Kindly, Shaygam Newman, who lovingly cares for street dogs in Hangberg, South Africa, a dreadfully poor community of 28,000 people near Cape Town, where dogs’ lives can be horrible, harsh and short.
“Last year, Network for Animals started guiding Shaygam on how to help dogs more effectively. He now feeds and rescues many of the community’s animals.
“It is deadly dangerous work. Grinding poverty and lawlessness mean that riots are commonplace in Hangberg; the area is a base for cruel gangsters who do terrible things to dogs.
“Many of the dogs Shaygam saves faced ending up torn to pieces in dog fighting pits.
“The gangsters see dogs as expendable commodities to be exploited for profit. These horrible people torture dogs, starve them, lock them up in a small cage for months at a time, before throwing them into a pit to be torn to death by dogs trained to do just that.
“Shaygam can’t fight the gangsters alone, so he teaches people kindness to animals and uses every penny he can scrape together to patrol and protect the area’s animals, providing food, love and care. He rescues dogs whenever he can.
“Shaygam is the heart and soul of animal welfare. While accompanying Shaygam on his missions of mercy we came across Bruno, a sick, starving dog. The dog lay in the sand so weak it could barely move. Bruno’s owner tried to chase him away but Shaygam faced her down.
“’If a dog is sick I will help it’ Shaygam explained. ‘It is dangerous, but I don’t think about my safety, I only think about the dogs who need help.’
“Orphaned as a child, Shaygam was so abused by a drunken uncle that he slept on the streets, finding love with the street dogs who kept him warm at night. He swore to repay the dogs, the only creatures who gave him love.
“’I will always be in debt to the dogs who helped me when no one else would,’ Shaygam said.
“Shaygam has a healing gift. He can heal dogs that vets would deem lost causes, almost miraculously turning them into well-adjusted happy dogs.
“Shaygam tries to set a good example and recruits what he calls ‘Shaygam’s crew’, youngsters from the area, who normally would be tempted by gangs to lead a life of crime. He teaches them instead to love and care for animals.
“Mr. Kindly is a good name for Shaygam, and he needs our help. There’s no animal shelter in Hangberg, no vets, no police presence, just squalor, crime and pain for the dogs.

THE 2018 EUROPEAN ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS
There was a time when the European Athletics Championships lived up to its name and was a tournament for Europeans only – a welcome change from the multi-racial hotchpotch which the Athletics section of the Olympic Games, and latterly the World Athletics Championships, have become. Gradually over more recent years the great Colonial powers, particularly France, Great Britain, Portugal and Belgium, began to introduce non-White sporting-mercenaries from their former colonies into their teams however, but even more recently – and this year in particular – this retrograde practice has become even more pronounced, and has spread to practically all Western European teams, even to Switzerland, a country which of course never possessed an overseas Empire! Added to the “plastic Brits” and “plastic Frenchmen” etc. we therefore now have “plastic Swedes”, “plastic Norwegians” – and even “plastic Germans”! In these final days of the “political correctness” era it is probably too early to expect European qualifications to be based upon DNA rather than on residence, but let’s hope that it won’t be too long before we see “like competing against like” in all sporting competition, with the European Athletics Championships once again being what it says it is!

CZECHOSLOVAKIA
At this year’s Edinburgh Military Tattoo one of the visiting overseas musical acts came from the Czech Republic, and it was announced that their participation was to mark the 100th anniversary of the foundation of their country. But that country was not of course the Czech Republic; it was Czechoslovakia. Although all parts of Czechoslovakia - Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia - had all been part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire for many centuries, they were ethnically and culturally identical, and indeed their languages of Czech and Slovak are in reality simply dialects of each other. The foundation of the Czechoslovakian nation, uniting all north-western Slavs, at the end of WW1 was therefore completely logical. Immediately following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the dismantling of the Iron Curtain certain sinister forces in Europe set about splitting several of the nation states of eastern Europe, not only Czechoslovakia but also Yugoslavia (Greater Serbia) and the Russian Federation. It is furthermore even more sinister to note that the only time when Slovakia was ever a separate country prior to the splitting of Czechoslovakia in January 1993 was when it was a Nazi puppet state during WWII! Most worryingly, however, although Germany was re-united following the collapse of Soviet Communism, plans to continue the splitting of other great European nation-states – this time in Western Europe – were continued by the same mysterious forces. Belgium, our own beloved United Kingdom and more recently Spain have all been subjected to this same insidious threat. Our hope therefore is that in this 100th Anniversary of the foundation of the Czechoslovakian nation that the Czechoslovakian people can initiate plans to re-unite their country – for by so doing they will not only benefit themselves, but will also surely stymie attempts to divide so many other great nations in the Western part of Europe.

CIRCULAR FROM THE DEMOCRATS AND VETERANS PARTY

“Fair-minded Brits would indentify a number of issues with the fact of Theresa May showing public support – allegedly on behalf of the Britain she claims to represent – for state-confiscation of land, especially when considering that within the same conversation she pledged £4 billion of British tax-payer funds to this regime, and predicted a further £4 billion in private foreign investor funds to follow.
“So, what kind of foreign investor watches while a government confiscates attractive commercial assets from business-owners that they have toiled for many years to accumulate and make profitable, and then blithely agrees to themselves invest their own funds into the same country? WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.238 - Mr. DEREK WATTERSON of Durban
Derek Watterson served as a Durban City Councillor for many years, and was also for a while a Natal Provincial Councillor and the Deputy-Mayor of Durban. He was an old-time member of the United Party (UP), but joined the New Republic Party (NRP) when the UP re-branded itself during the 1970s. He was however firmly on the Right-wing of the NRP and fully supported the rights of his fellow White South Africans, opposing most of the Progressive Federal Party (PFP) attempts to integrate public facilities in Durban. He was a great friend and ally of the late, great John Lundie, who of course subsequently left the NRP and affiliated with the Conservative Party of South Africa (CP). It was therefore bizarre and dumbfounding that Derek Watterson’s building company was chosen as a target by a far-Right couple in their bombing campaign against integrated institutions and their backers during the late 1970s. Derek Watterson once spoke to the Durban Parliamentary Debating Society from the “government benches” during the mid-1980s when the Left-wing grouping was “in power”, but his speech proved so inspirational to the CP/HNP “opposition benches” that they gave him a standing ovation, whereas his own PFP/NRP “government bench” members sat in stony-faced silence! Because of his age it is doubtful whether Derek Watterson is still alive, but it would be very interesting to learn whether he ever joined the CP.

I have known Alan Harvey for a very long time, and the suggestion by this Arthur Kemp character that he is a liberal is risible [see July SCN – Ed.]. I know very little about this Kemp character, but he seems to be some kind of nutter.

ITALIAN JOB
Sir,
Italian debt to GDP stands at 132%. The Italian government owes 35 thousand Euros per person. That’s six thousand more than what’s owed by the Greek government. GDP in Italy is barely above the level when it joined the Euro in 1999. The ECB has given Italy 600 billion Euros to stop it going bust. Italian banks have already gone bust. The Deutsche Bank is in deep trouble. Clearly the signs are that Italy will soon have to leave the Euro and go back to the Lire as its currency. In order to prevent this the EU will undoubtedly demand that some other member states, including the UK, will have to finance the ECB, Italy, Spain and other EU countries by many billions of Euros.
It is therefore imperative that the UK pulls out of the EU immediately to avoid having to pay horrendous costs to prop up the Euro and the EU. Bob Lyddon in his report published by the Bruges Group points out that the UK's liabilities created by the EU under the heading budgetary “commitments” is 441.1 billion Eurosup until the end of the current MFF (Multiannual Financial Framework) which runs up to the end of 2020. With other financial liabilities Bob Lyddon confirms the grand total under the UK’s current contracts: Category Amount EU/Payments Appropriation 746.0 billion Euros, EU/Commitments Appropriation 441.1 billion Euros, EIB subscribed capital 39.2 billion Euros, ECB subscribed capital 1.5 billion Euros, UK Maximum Possible Loss 1,227.8 billion Euros. That equates to £982 billion. The UK’s national debt is currently £1.560 trillion or 82% of UK GDP’s of £1.902 trillion. A full call on the UK’s contracts by the EU would raise the national debt to £2.542 trillion or 134% of GDP. Over and above that could come the need to render “extraordinary support” to any of the EU organisations listed.
If the Conservative Party enables the EU to demand these payments through not progressing a full and free BREXIT I hope and pray that the Conservative Party will never ever form a UK government again.

OBITUARY
LESLIE ROBERT HOMPSTEAD
It was with great sadness that we learnt last month of the death of Leslie Robert “Les” Hompstead at the age of 96. Les Hompstead may not have been a well known name to the British public at large, but he was even so a great servant and a genuine hero of the British nation and its remaining Empire during the latter half of the last century.
Born at Gillingham in 1921, he alas suffered an illness during his early years which caused lasting damage to his hearing. He was however technically brilliant, and attended Chatham Technical High School (where incidentally he was a member of the school’s South Africa House!) and excelled at electronics. After school he became an apprentice at Chatham Dockyard, but his prowess in electronics soon won him a scholarship to the Royal Naval Training College at Greenwich. Here he wore uniform for the only time during his career, for his hearing impairment meant that he wasn’t able to enlist into the Royal Navy following the outbreak of WWII. Instead he returned to Chatham Dockyard where he continued his service to the Royal Navy which was to last until the end of his working career.
To escape potential bombing disruption the Admiralty moved all their more specialist units from the various dockyards to Bath during WWII, and in spite of his youth Les was considered important enough to be part of this move. From then onwards Bath and its surrounding area became the main home for Les and his growing family. In 1956, however, he was transferred to Hong Kong Dockyard to become Deputy Head of their Electrical Engineering Department. Whilst there the Head of the department retired, so he was promoted to be Head of this department himself – the youngest person ever in its history. Following the reprehensible closure of Hong Kong Dockyard by the MacMillan Government Les was transferred back to Bath, but the growing realisation that his personal and administrative talents extended far beyond electrical engineering meant that in 1967 he was appointed Yard Services Manager at Chatham Dockyard – one of the five leading civilian positions in the yard which entailed overseeing all of its physical infrastructure. From here, in 1970, he was appointed to the top civilian position in Gibraltar Dockyard, a position which entailed, inter alia, negotiating with Gibraltarian trade union officials, who included at one time none other than that good friend of our movement Maurice Xiberras. By all accounts they were both tough negotiators, but they soon formed a close relationship based upon high mutual-respect. After his term of office at Gibraltar Dockyard Les was transferred back to Bath, were he served the final decade of his outstanding career as a leading civil servant in the by then Ministry of Defence (Navy).
But there was more to Les Hompstead than just his spectacular career with the Admiralty/MoD(N) – far, far more! He was s lifelong staunch Methodist, being a stalwart of the local Methodist Church wherever he went. He met his future wife Peggy Norman (a scion of the famous Norman family of the Medway Towns) at a Methodist youth club and they married at Gillingham in 1944. It proved to be an extremely happy and fruitful marriage, and they produced three fine children, Trevor, Joy and Sheila.
Les was also a very rounded man – indeed he could accurately be termed a renaissance man. Although not a trained architect he designed and supervised the building of his new family home in Bath whilst still stationed in Hong Kong, and after having to sell this house when he was appointed elsewhere designed another home in Bath for just Peggy and himself after his children had all married. He was also a keen and talented Lawn Tennis player, and whilst stationed in Gibraltar took up paddle-boating on the Mediterranean. He also became an avid cine-photographer, and built up a phenomenal collection of films including many of historical significance for the era from his times in Hong Kong and Gibraltar. Whilst stationed in Gibraltar he and Peggy played hosts to many of their family members and friends from the UK, and always gave everyone fantastically enjoyable times with detailed and knowledgeable conducted tours around the Rock, and sometimes even trips across the Mediterranean to Morocco. He was furthermore a gifted singer with a majestic tenor voice, and often sung in his church choir wherever he went, even becoming choirmaster for a while when he eventually retired to Trowbridge. Perhaps his most surprising and unique achievement, however, was that he wrote a pantomime which contained roles for all his grandchildren!
But above all Les Hompstead was a firm patriot – and furthermore was an unapologetic Empire and Commonwealth man. He loved his time in Hong Kong, and developed a strong interest in Chinese culture which lasted until the end of his life. He was certain however that it was in the best interests of the Hong Kong Chinese that benign British rule should continue, and was fearful for their future if handed over to the atheist communists. He was likewise supportive of Gibraltar remaining British, as his friendly relationship to that great British-Gibraltarian patriot Maurice Xiberras confirms. He actually maintained many friendships with Gibraltarians who he had got to know, making several trips back to the Rock after he retired, with one such long-distance friendship continuing until the day he died.
The one word which sums up Les best however is “happy”. He always has a smile on his face, and constantly lived life to the full. He was unquestionably a highly intelligent man, as his most successful career clearly demonstrates. His family life was constantly a source of great pride and pleasure to him, and he was always an eternal optimist for the future (in stark contrast to the “moan and groan brigade” who have alas caused so many problems for our movement!). He developed a wide and eclectic circle of friends which bears witness to the true worth of the man. Indeed it seems impossible that he ever made any enemies throughout his life.
Alas his beloved wife Peggy developed Alzheimer’s during the late 1990s, and he devoted the next dozen or so years to caring for her and looking after her well-being. Her end in 2012 was of course a devastating blow to him, but his strong Christian faith saw him through and he lived a further half-dozen years with equal gusto to his previous ninety years. Having moved to a retirement village in Trowbridge he became a well-known personality around the town. He possessed a mobility-scooter during his final years, which by all accounts he constantly drove at a speed far higher than it was actually designed for! Although his end when it came last month was not unexpected, it did come about very quickly – but his mind was as agile and as astute as it had always been.
Les Hompstead was not only a great Briton – he was also a great human-being, and his name and achievements deserve to be known and honoured by a wider audience. Our sincerest condolences are extended to his three children Trevor, Joy and Sheila, his seven grandchildren, his sixteen great-grandchildren – and, if they were only old enough to understand, his four great-great-grandchildren!

There has been something grotesquely sickening about the Labour Party uinder the leadership of the unspeakable Jeremy Corbyn. This has not so much been because of the vile anti-Semitism which has emerged in its ranks from the swamp, but more because of the total hypocrisy of those vomiting out such poison.
It is a truism that to the liberal-left for much of the 20th century all criticism or antagonism towards any non-White ethnic group has always been met with a Pavlovian reaction of condemnation and parrot-cries of “racism”, “xenophobia” and “hatred” etc., etc., but conversely they themselves now seem to have no inhibitions about voicing these same criticism and antagonism towards one particular basically White ethnic group – the Jewish people. Their hypocrisy is breath-taking.
Those who were aware of the full facts concerning South Africa’s battle for survival during the 1980s knew that the State of Israel was South Africa’s best and most reliable overseas friend, and that the two civilised Western nations both battling against the evils of international terrorism enjoyed close military, trading, technological and security co-operation. To be sure, there was a small clique on of self-hating Jews such as Joe Slovo and Helen Joseph who sided with the ANC terrorists (as indeed there were probably larger cliques of self-hating Afrikaners and self-hating British-South Africans who did similarly), but the vast majority of Jewish South Africans realised which side they should be on and sided with those who battled for the preservation of civilised rule in South Africa accordingly, as the high number of Jewish people who supported the Conservative Party well illustrates. Is it any wonder therefore that the anti-South Africans of Corbyn’s Labour Party should harbour such hatred for another ethnic group which is proud of its own identity?
One particularly bizarre outcome of Corbyn’s rabid anti-Semitism (or anti-Zionism as he euphemistically calls it – common code for those too cowardly to admit openly their paranoid hatred for the Jewish people as a whole) has been the support which he has been receiving on this issue from David Duke, the leader of one faction of the Ku Klux Klan. Under normal circumstances any person or organisation receiving support from the Ku Klux Klan would immediately be subject to fierce and prolonged condemnation by the united forces of the liberal-left, but in Corbyn’s case there has been hardly a whisper. This of course contrasts starkly with the attacks which our movement received when a false rumour was spread by The Guardian newspaper and other media outlets that one of our early stalwart members, the late and great Bill Binding, had been a member of the Ku Klux Klan (Bill Binding actually never set foot in the United States during his entire life!). Again the hypocrisy is breath-taking.
The desire of the Jewish people in Israel to develop separately from their Palestinian Arab neighbours, and thereby to protect their ancient and distinct culture and religion, is of course quite natural and to be applauded. We realise of course why, given its near universal pariah status, the word “apartheid” is always avoided and objected to, but what is the “two state solution” – which seems to be fully supported by practically all international powers – other than a system of apartheid on a grand scale?
On a similar theme, in his otherwise excellent speech condemning the reprehensible rise of anti-Semitism within Corbyn’s Labour Party, it was most unfortunate that former Chief Rabbi Jonathan Sacks chose also to condemn Enoch Powell’s prophetic “Rivers of Blood” speech of 1968. Rabbi Sacks should surely ponder that not only did Enoch Powell enlist in the ranks voluntarily to fight against the scourge of anti-Semitic Naziism at the very start of WWII (something which he later described as the single most important act of his life), but also that if his warnings had been heeded then there would not have been the subsequent Islamic invasion into the UK and so the spectre of anti-Semitism would never have been able to rise its ugly head – and in all probability there would therefore never have been any possibility of Jeremy Corbyn becoming Labour leader.

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
The Springbok Club staged a trip to the British Library last month in order to view a special exhibition being held there about Capt. James Cook entitled “James Cook: The Voyages”. This proved a highly enjoyable and informative trip, and as a result much was learnt about this great British explorer. There were alas a few concessions to “political correctness” in this exhibition, but encouragingly somewhat fewer than have been observed in other similar exhibitions staged in London during recent years. Following the visit to this exhibition the Springbok Club party adjourned to a near-by hostelry for convivial discussions about what they had just seen, and also to plan future Springbok Club activities.

Unfortunately, as all supporters probably by now know, this year’s planned staging of the annual “Raising of the Flag” ceremony at its traditional venue in Southrepps, Norfolk, has had to be cancelled. This has been because the necessary repair and refurbishment work at Southrepps Hall has proved to be far more extensive than was originally anticipated. Two important decisions have however been made and agreed upon which will ensure the continuity of this important and inspiring event:-
1) As the repair work at Southrepps Hall will definitely be completed by September 2019, the ceremony will therefore be "back to normal" at its traditional venue from that year onwards. The 2019 event will therefore take place at Southrepps Hall on Sunday 15th September 2019, and this will be the ceremony to be staged in special memory and honour of Peter Sladden. We ask everyone therefore to please diarise this date NOW!.
2) As we believe that it is important for continuity reasons that some form of "Raising of the Flag" ceremony still takes place this year, we are now therefore busily attempting to procure an alternative venue When finalised this event will undoubtedly be somewhat lower-key than normal, and as further planning will of course be required it will therefore we taking place a bit later than the original planned date of 16th September, perhaps in conjunction with the Springbok Club’s annual UDI Day celebration. If anyone can provide or suggest an alternative venue for this year’s event then please let us know. Needless to say, details about the replacement event for 2018 will be included in future editions of the SCN once finalised.

MESSAGE FROM THE NETWORK FOR ANIMALS
We have recently received the following most uplifting message from the Network for Animals organisation. Although the story itself is very encouraging, the terrible background it portrays still illustrates the disastrous descent into chaos which has taken place in the “new” South Africa. The message reads as follows :-
“A little while ago, we told you the story of Mr. Kindly, Shaygam Newman, who lovingly cares for street dogs in Hangberg, South Africa, a dreadfully poor community of 28,000 people near Cape Town, where dogs’ lives can be horrible, harsh and short.
“Last year, Network for Animals started guiding Shaygam on how to help dogs more effectively. He now feeds and rescues many of the community’s animals.
“It is deadly dangerous work. Grinding poverty and lawlessness mean that riots are commonplace in Hangberg; the area is a base for cruel gangsters who do terrible things to dogs.
“Many of the dogs Shaygam saves faced ending up torn to pieces in dog fighting pits.
“The gangsters see dogs as expendable commodities to be exploited for profit. These horrible people torture dogs, starve them, lock them up in a small cage for months at a time, before throwing them into a pit to be torn to death by dogs trained to do just that.
“Shaygam can’t fight the gangsters alone, so he teaches people kindness to animals and uses every penny he can scrape together to patrol and protect the area’s animals, providing food, love and care. He rescues dogs whenever he can.
“Shaygam is the heart and soul of animal welfare. While accompanying Shaygam on his missions of mercy we came across Bruno, a sick, starving dog. The dog lay in the sand so weak it could barely move. Bruno’s owner tried to chase him away but Shaygam faced her down.
“’If a dog is sick I will help it’ Shaygam explained. ‘It is dangerous, but I don’t think about my safety, I only think about the dogs who need help.’
“Orphaned as a child, Shaygam was so abused by a drunken uncle that he slept on the streets, finding love with the street dogs who kept him warm at night. He swore to repay the dogs, the only creatures who gave him love.
“’I will always be in debt to the dogs who helped me when no one else would,’ Shaygam said.
“Shaygam has a healing gift. He can heal dogs that vets would deem lost causes, almost miraculously turning them into well-adjusted happy dogs.
“Shaygam tries to set a good example and recruits what he calls ‘Shaygam’s crew’, youngsters from the area, who normally would be tempted by gangs to lead a life of crime. He teaches them instead to love and care for animals.
“Mr. Kindly is a good name for Shaygam, and he needs our help. There’s no animal shelter in Hangberg, no vets, no police presence, just squalor, crime and pain for the dogs.
“I am helping Shaygam to make lives better for Hangberg’s dogs, please Alan, if you possibly can, make a generous donation to Network for Animals today so that together we can give the dogs of Hangberg a better life.

THE 2018 EUROPEAN ATHLETIC CHAMPIONSHIPS
There was a time when the European Athletics Championships lived up to its name and was a tournament for Europeans only – a welcome change from the multi-racial hotchpotch which the Athletics section of the Olympic Games, and latterly the World Athletics Championships, have become. Gradually over more recent years the great Colonial powers, particularly France, Great Britain, Portugal and Belgium, began to introduce non-White sporting-mercenaries from their former colonies into their teams however, but even more recently – and this year in particular – this retrograde practice has become even more pronounced, and has spread to practically all Western European teams, even to Switzerland, a country which of course never possessed an overseas Empire! Added to the “plastic Brits” and “plastic Frenchmen” etc. we therefore now have “plastic Swedes”, “plastic Norwegians” – and even “plastic Germans”! In these final days of the “political correctness” era it is probably too early to expect European qualifications to be based upon DNA rather than on residence, but let’s hope that it won’t be too long before we see “like competing against like” in all sporting competition, with the European Athletics Championships once again being what it says it is!

CZECHOSLOVAKIA
At this year’s Edinburgh Military Tattoo one of the visiting overseas musical acts came from the Czech Republic, and it was announced that their participation was to mark the 100th anniversary of the foundation of their country. But that country was not of course the Czech Republic; it was Czechoslovakia. Although all parts of Czechoslovakia - Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia - had all been part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire for many centuries, they were ethnically and culturally identical, and indeed their languages of Czech and Slovak are in reality simply dialects of each other. The foundation of the Czechoslovakian nation, uniting all north-western Slavs, at the end of WW1 was therefore completely logical. Immediately following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the dismantling of the Iron Curtain certain sinister forces in Europe set about splitting several of the nation states of eastern Europe, not only Czechoslovakia but also Yugoslavia (Greater Serbia) and the Russian Federation. It is furthermore even more sinister to note that the only time when Slovakia was ever a separate country prior to the splitting of Czechoslovakia in January 1993 was when it was a Nazi puppet state during WWII! Most worryingly, however, although Germany was re-united following the collapse of Soviet Communism, plans to continue the splitting of other great European nation-states – this time in Western Europe – were continued by the same mysterious forces. Belgium, our own beloved United Kingdom and more recently Spain have all been subjected to this same insidious threat. Our hope therefore is that in this 100th Anniversary of the foundation of the Czechoslovakian nation that the Czechoslovakian people can initiate plans to re-unite their country – for by so doing they will not only benefit themselves, but will also surely stymie attempts to divide so many other great nations in the Western part of Europe.

CIRCULAR FROM THE DEMOCRATS AND VETERANS PARTY
We have recently been forwarded this most interesting and thought-provoking circular issued by the Democrats and Veterans Party. It reads as follows :-
“When polled, fewer than 1% of South Africans think that there’s an issue that needs to be addressed with land ownership in South Africa. Pretty much the only people who actually think there’s an issue with the fact of White Afrikaners owning productive farms throughout the country are a) racists and b) corrupt government officials who still covet the enormous wealth that accrued to government officials in Zimbabwe just across the border, when Mugabe successfully confiscated all the best land and farms in the country and handed them out to well-connected government officials.

“So, earlier this week Theresa May visits South Africa, on her very first trip to Africa, and tells the South African president that “Britain” supports the creation of brand new legislation that is about to change the face of South Africa. This legislation states that the government should be permitted to confiscate land from farmers who have broken no laws and who typically employ dozens of workers and, on average, each feed 3,000 of the country’s population; and hand this land over to people who have no experience of running large or medium scale commercial farms, all without any money being paid to the current owner of the farm, or in certain exceptional cases, with just 10% of the estimated value of the farm being paid to the current farm owner.
“Theresa May to Facilitate Theft from South Africans
“Fair-minded Brits would indentify a number of issues with the fact of Theresa May showing public support – allegedly on behalf of the Britain she claims to represent – for state-confiscation of land, especially when considering that within the same conversation she pledged £4 billion of British tax-payer funds to this regime, and predicted a further £4 billion in private foreign investor funds to follow.
“So, what kind of foreign investor watches while a government confiscates attractive commercial assets from business-owners that they have toiled for many years to accumulate and make profitable, and then blithely agrees to themselves invest their own funds into the same country? It is obvious: the only kind of foreign investor that is willing to invest in a country whose state has just confiscated privately owned assets in the very same tradition of Stalin, Pol Pot, Idi Amin and Mugabe, is an investor who knows that he is going to be peculiarly well ‘looked after’ by the incumbent regime. An investor who knows that the machinery of state is now constitutionally facilitated in expropriating assets from the people of the country and transferring these assets into the ownership of a cosy cabal of closely-connected corporations and corrupt bureaucrats.

Well-connected bureaucrats and their families are about to become incredibly rich.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?
No.238 - Mr. DEREK WATTERSON of Durban
Derek Watterson served as a Durban City Councillor for many years, and was also for a while a Natal Provincial Councillor and the Deputy-Mayor of Durban. He was an old-time member of the United Party (UP), but joined the New Republic Party (NRP) when the UP re-branded itself during the 1970s. He was however firmly on the Right-wing of the NRP and fully supported the rights of his fellow White South Africans, opposing most of the Progressive Federal Party (PFP) attempts to integrate public facilities in Durban. He was a great friend and ally of the late, great John Lundie, who of course subsequently left the NRP and affiliated with the Conservative Party of South Africa (CP). It was therefore bizarre and dumbfounding that Derek Watterson’s building company was chosen as a target by a far-Right couple in their bombing campaign against integrated institutions and their backers during the late 1970s. Derek Watterson once spoke to the Durban Parliamentary Debating Society from the “government benches” during the mid-1980s when the Left-wing grouping was “in power”, but his speech proved so inspirational to the CP/HNP “opposition benches” that they gave him a standing ovation, whereas his own PFP/NRP “government bench” members sat in stony-faced silence! Because of his age it is doubtful whether Derek Watterson is still alive, but it would be very interesting to learn whether he ever joined the CP.

I have known Alan Harvey for a very long time, and the suggestion by this Arthur Kemp character that he is a liberal is risible [see July SCN – Ed.]. I know very little about this Kemp character, but he seems to be some kind of nutter.

ITALIAN JOB
Sir,
Italian debt to GDP stands at 132%. The Italian government owes 35 thousand Euros per person. That’s six thousand more than what’s owed by the Greek government. GDP in Italy is barely above the level when it joined the Euro in 1999. The ECB has given Italy 600 billion Euros to stop it going bust. Italian banks have already gone bust. The Deutsche Bank is in deep trouble. Clearly the signs are that Italy will soon have to leave the Euro and go back to the Lire as its currency. In order to prevent this the EU will undoubtedly demand that some other member states, including the UK, will have to finance the ECB, Italy, Spain and other EU countries by many billions of Euros.
It is therefore imperative that the UK pulls out of the EU immediately to avoid having to pay horrendous costs to prop up the Euro and the EU. Bob Lyddon in his report published by the Bruges Group points out that the UK's liabilities created by the EU under the heading budgetary “commitments” is 441.1 billion Eurosup until the end of the current MFF (Multiannual Financial Framework) which runs up to the end of 2020. With other financial liabilities Bob Lyddon confirms the grand total under the UK’s current contracts: Category Amount EU/Payments Appropriation 746.0 billion Euros, EU/Commitments Appropriation 441.1 billion Euros, EIB subscribed capital 39.2 billion Euros, ECB subscribed capital 1.5 billion Euros, UK Maximum Possible Loss 1,227.8 billion Euros. That equates to £982 billion. The UK’s national debt is currently £1.560 trillion or 82% of UK GDP’s of £1.902 trillion. A full call on the UK’s contracts by the EU would raise the national debt to £2.542 trillion or 134% of GDP. Over and above that could come the need to render “extraordinary support” to any of the EU organisations listed.
If the Conservative Party enables the EU to demand these payments through not progressing a full and free BREXIT I hope and pray that the Conservative Party will never ever form a UK government again.

OBITUARY
LESLIE ROBERT HOMPSTEAD
It was with great sadness that we learnt last month of the death of Leslie Robert “Les” Hompstead at the age of 96. Les Hompstead may not have been a well known name to the British public at large, but he was even so a great servant and a genuine hero of the British nation and its remaining Empire during the latter half of the last century.
Born at Gillingham in 1921, he alas suffered an illness during his early years which caused lasting damage to his hearing. He was however technically brilliant, and attended Chatham Technical High School (where incidentally he was a member of the school’s South Africa House!) and excelled at electronics. After school he became an apprentice at Chatham Dockyard, but his prowess in electronics soon won him a scholarship to the Royal Naval Training College at Greenwich. Here he wore uniform for the only time during his career, for his hearing impairment meant that he wasn’t able to enlist into the Royal Navy following the outbreak of WWII. Instead he returned to Chatham Dockyard where he continued his service to the Royal Navy which was to last until the end of his working career.
To escape potential bombing disruption the Admiralty moved all their more specialist units from the various dockyards to Bath during WWII, and in spite of his youth Les was considered important enough to be part of this move. From then onwards Bath and its surrounding area became the main home for Les and his growing family. In 1956, however, he was transferred to Hong Kong Dockyard to become Deputy Head of their Electrical Engineering Department. Whilst there the Head of the department retired, so he was promoted to be Head of this department himself – the youngest person ever in its history. Following the reprehensible closure of Hong Kong Dockyard by the MacMillan Government Les was transferred back to Bath, but the growing realisation that his personal and administrative talents extended far beyond electrical engineering meant that in 1967 he was appointed Yard Services Manager at Chatham Dockyard – one of the five leading civilian positions in the yard which entailed overseeing all of its physical infrastructure. From here, in 1970, he was appointed to the top civilian position in Gibraltar Dockyard, a position which entailed, inter alia, negotiating with Gibraltarian trade union officials, who included at one time none other than that good friend of our movement Maurice Xiberras. By all accounts they were both tough negotiators, but they soon formed a close relationship based upon high mutual-respect. After his term of office at Gibraltar Dockyard Les was transferred back to Bath, were he served the final decade of his outstanding career as a leading civil servant in the by then Ministry of Defence (Navy).
But there was more to Les Hompstead than just his spectacular career with the Admiralty/MoD(N) – far, far more! He was s lifelong staunch Methodist, being a stalwart of the local Methodist Church wherever he went. He met his future wife Peggy Norman (a scion of the famous Norman family of the Medway Towns) at a Methodist youth club and they married at Gillingham in 1944. It proved to be an extremely happy and fruitful marriage, and they produced three fine children, Trevor, Joy and Sheila.
Les was also a very rounded man – indeed he could accurately be termed a renaissance man. Although not a trained architect he designed and supervised the building of his new family home in Bath whilst still stationed in Hong Kong, and after having to sell this house when he was appointed elsewhere designed another home in Bath for just Peggy and himself after his children had all married. He was also a keen and talented Lawn Tennis player, and whilst stationed in Gibraltar took up paddle-boating on the Mediterranean. He also became an avid cine-photographer, and built up a phenomenal collection of films including many of historical significance for the era from his times in Hong Kong and Gibraltar. Whilst stationed in Gibraltar he and Peggy played hosts to many of their family members and friends from the UK, and always gave everyone fantastically enjoyable times with detailed and knowledgeable conducted tours around the Rock, and sometimes even trips across the Mediterranean to Morocco. He was furthermore a gifted singer with a majestic tenor voice, and often sung in his church choir wherever he went, even becoming choirmaster for a while when he eventually retired to Trowbridge. Perhaps his most surprising and unique achievement, however, was that he wrote a pantomime which contained roles for all his grandchildren!
But above all Les Hompstead was a firm patriot – and furthermore was an unapologetic Empire and Commonwealth man. He loved his time in Hong Kong, and developed a strong interest in Chinese culture which lasted until the end of his life. He was certain however that it was in the best interests of the Hong Kong Chinese that benign British rule should continue, and was fearful for their future if handed over to the atheist communists. He was likewise supportive of Gibraltar remaining British, as his friendly relationship to that great British-Gibraltarian patriot Maurice Xiberras confirms. He actually maintained many friendships with Gibraltarians who he had got to know, making several trips back to the Rock after he retired, with one such long-distance friendship continuing until the day he died.
The one word which sums up Les best however is “happy”. He always has a smile on his face, and constantly lived life to the full. He was unquestionably a highly intelligent man, as his most successful career clearly demonstrates. His family life was constantly a source of great pride and pleasure to him, and he was always an eternal optimist for the future (in stark contrast to the “moan and groan brigade” who have alas caused so many problems for our movement!). He developed a wide and eclectic circle of friends which bears witness to the true worth of the man. Indeed it seems impossible that he ever made any enemies throughout his life.
Alas his beloved wife Peggy developed Alzheimer’s during the late 1990s, and he devoted the next dozen or so years to caring for her and looking after her well-being. Her end in 2012 was of course a devastating blow to him, but his strong Christian faith saw him through and he lived a further half-dozen years with equal gusto to his previous ninety years. Having moved to a retirement village in Trowbridge he became a well-known personality around the town. He possessed a mobility-scooter during his final years, which by all accounts he constantly drove at a speed far higher than it was actually designed for! Although his end when it came last month was not unexpected, it did come about very quickly – but his mind was as agile and as astute as it had always been.
Les Hompstead was not only a great Briton – he was also a great human-being, and his name and achievements deserve to be known and honoured by a wider audience. Our sincerest condolences are extended to his three children Trevor, Joy and Sheila, his seven grandchildren, his sixteen great-grandchildren – and, if they were only old enough to understand, his four great-great-grandchildren!

In last month’s edition of the SCN we expressed great concern at the apparent censorship being operated by the mainstream media to prevent any mention of the case of Tommy Robinson, who had been arbitrarily imprisoned for “contempt of court” after he had made a live on-line speech outside Leeds Crown Court where a trial was taking place of an Islamic gang accused of various heinous sexual crimes against young women.
Within days of last month’s edition of the SCN appearing all reporting restrictions on the Tommy Robinson;s case were however lifted, and as a result many accurate reports about both his imprisonment itself and the resulting massive worldwide protests in his support started appearing in the mainstream media. A report on BBC2’s Newsnight featuring an in-depth interview with UKIP leader Gerald Batten proved particularly informative. It transpired furthermore that there was nothing particularly unique about reporting restrictions being placed on such cases whilst high-profile trials of serious relevant cases were taking place. Although the legal authorities were therefore undoubtredly at fault in taking such “over the top” action to prevent any reporting, this eventually turned out to be only of a temporary nature, and was in no way as sinister as it may at first seemed.
Only a few days aftrr all reporting restrictions were lifted, however, another even more encouraging development took place, as the Court of Appeal unanimously ruled that Tommy Robinson should be released pending a re-trial, as there had clearly been many serious legal errors made in the initial over-hasty judgement against him. The judges of the Court of Appeal are therefore to be congratulated upon their well-analysed common-sense ruling.
Perhaps the most significant aspect of this whole saga has been the revelation of how much support Tommy Robinson – a relatively obscure political activist – has been building-up, both within the UK itself and globally. Quite clearly he has been able to establish a massive network of support which has been “below the radar” of most observers. An analysis of his early history of political involvement shows that he has not been without fault, but even so his more recent activities confirm that he possesses true leadership ability, an astute understanding of the nature of the dangers facing Britain and the West in general, and of course great courage. Steve Bannan was unquestionably correct when he described him as “the backbone of the nation”. Surely no-one since John Enoch Powell has been able to galvanise patriotic sentiment within the British nation so successfully!
At much the same time as Tommy Robinson was released another prominent Briton was being subjected to intense criticism by the liberal-leftist chattering classes – but this time a mainstream politician, Alexander Boris Johnson. Mr. Johnson had written a newspaper article defending the right of Muslim women in the West to wear the burqa, but it was a couple of “throw-away” humourous comments which he made comparing the appearance of burqa-wearers tio bank robbers and pillar boxes which enraged the paranoid wrath of the multi-culturalists. The claim has been made that Boris Johnson only made these comments in order to gain support from the vast majority of British people who are opposed to non-White immigration – but surely if this had been his intention then he would have opposed the wearing of the burqa in the West entirely? As things have turned out there has been a hysterical reaction against him by the usual suspects, including reprehensively many prominent figures within the Conservative Party, with demands being made that he “apologise” for these harmless humourous comments. So far Boris Johnson has refused to make such a ridiculous apology, and by so doing has turned himself into another rallying figure for patriotic opposition to multi-culturalism – albeit undoubtedly an unintended and highly unlikely one!
Whether either Tommy Robinson or Boris Johnson can emerge as a new Enoch Powell in order to lead the British people in this time of great national danger is uncertain – but one thing is clear, and that is that the current upsurge of patriotic sentiment will ensure that a new Enoch Powell will eventually emerge!

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
On Thursday 23rd August the Springbok Club will be staging a trip to the British Library, 96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB, in order to view a special exhibition being held there about Capt. James Cook entitled “James Cook: The Voyages”. Enter by the main entrance to the British Library, and then rendezvous besides the sculptured book seat at approximately 14.30 hrs. (NB: there will be a small admission charge of £14.00 to view this exhibition, though concessions for students and OAPs are available). Following the trip to this exhibition the Springbok Club party will adjourn to a near-by hostelry for friendly conversations to the day.

THE CEREMONY OF THE RAISING OF THE FLAG
to be held at Southrepps Hall, Hall Road, Southrepps, Norfolk, NR11 8TG, on Sunday 16th September 2018.
Assemble from 12.00 noon onwards, the actual ceremony to commence at 14.30 hrs.
The day will include :-
Tea and light refreshments to be served in the Hall upon arrival
Live music to accompany the ceremony
The hoisting of the Union Flag by an expatriate Rhodesian.
A short religious ceremony including prayers that have said since 1890, including the Inaugural Prayer.
Keynote speeches by two prominent Rhodesians
A twenty-one gun salute
The sounding of the Last Post and the playing of both the British and Rhodesian National Anthems.
Convivial socialising with other ex-Rhodesians and friends of Rhodesia
On the morning of Saturday 13th September 1890, the day after the Pioneer Column arrived at the site of what was to become the City of Salisbury, the capital of the newly established nation of Rhodesia, Lt. E.C. “Teddy” Tindale-Biscoe raised the Union Flag for the first time at the spot which later became Cecil Square. Every year thereafter this event was re-enacted with an official ceremony at the same place – until the unfortunate advent of the ZANU-PF regime in 1980.
In spite of the fact that the new rulers of that land between the Zambezi and the Limpopo discontinued this ceremony, a true Rhodesian patriot named Peter Charles Kerrison Sladden was determined that this inspirational tradition should continue in one form or another. Peter Sladden was a truly remarkable man. He had been born at Fulham in 1919 and had served with distinction in the RAF during WWII. After the end of this conflict, being a strong Empire and Commonwealth man, he decided to emigrate to what was then Southern Rhodesia, where he quickly established himself and founded a highly-successful construction and engineering company. Quite naturally he did not wish to remain in the country under ZANU-PF rule, so returned to the UK in 1980 where he purchased the manor and estate of Southrepps in Norfolk and embarked upon a new equally successful career as an arable and pig farmer. He did not forget his beloved Rhodesia however, and from 1981 onwards continued the traditional “Raising of the Flag” ceremony which had taken place in Rhodesia itself from 1890 until 1980 in the grounds of his estate in Norfolk.
Sadly Peter Sladden died last year – albeit at the ripe old age of 98 and having lived a most happy and successful life, being active almost to the end. Many of his family members and friends have been determined that the tradition of the “Raising of the Flag” ceremony which Peter had devoted so much of his time in maintaining should continue however, and despite the fact that it has taken a great amount of time, effort and costs to organise we are happy announce that this ceremony will take place again at the same venue at Southrepps Manor in Norfolk this year as normal.
We are therefore most grateful to Peter’s family members for making these facilities available to us again, and as this will be the first occasion that the ceremony will have taken place since Peter’s sad death this year’s event will take the form of a special tribute to his memory, with one of the key-note speeches to be made by a family member telling more about the life and achievements of the great man. We hope therefore that you will make every effort to join us for this year’s ceremony.

PATRIOTIC FORUM NEWS
The Patriotic Forum staged a most enjoyable and informative meeting last month which was addressed by Mr. Marko Gasic, the eminent Serbian spokesman in London. Mr. Gasic had edited the recently-published and highly-acclaimed book detailing the true origins and causes of WW1, “Folly and Malice: the Habsburg Empire, the Balkans and the Start of World War One”, and in his speech he explained the significance of many of the often overlooked and forgotten facts concerning the build-up to WW1 which were chronicled in this book, with particular emphasis on events and developments in the Balkans at the start of the 20th century.

MESSAGE FROM THE NETWORK FOR ANIMALS
We have recently received the following disturbing message from the Network for Animals organisation. This surely says everything about the descent into savagery which has taken lace in the “new” South Africa. It reads as follows :-
“There is a simple reason the puppy we rescued in the gangster-ridden South African slum called Khayelitsha is named Biscotti.
“Vicious brutes threw boiling water over poor little Biscotti scalding her so horribly that parts of her skin were burnt like a biscotti biscuit.
“Biscotti and her two siblings were just six weeks old when some monster decided to kill the puppies.
“Biscotti’s mother looked on from behind a wire fence as her puppies were tortured.
“More boiling water was being readied; the monsters were going to scald all the puppies to death. A good Samaritan called Fallen Angels and our team got there in the nick of time.
“We rescued Biscotti and her two siblings, and they are all doing well. The tragedy is there are so many other dogs that need our help in South Africa’s slums.
“There are literally thousands of criminally abused dogs in Khayelitsha and they need our help every single day.
“Dogs in Khayelitsha are at constant peril of casual, brutal cruelty.
“The level of ignorance about animals in these slums is hard to comprehend. We were told that dogs don’t feel pain, that dogs don’t need to eat every day and it’s okay to keep them tied up without shade in fierce heat. We try to teach the people how to care for animals.
“We rescue, medically treat and care for as many street dogs as we can.
“Right now more than 700 dogs in the Cape Town area depend upon the support you and other animal lovers give me.
“It’s dangerous work because we face gangsters who kidnap dogs to use as bait in illegal dog fighting – the dogs are literally torn to pieces so gamblers can see which fighting dogs are most vicious. They say that if we continue our work they will kill my team, but that won’t stop us. We will carry on in spite of the threats because that is what we animal lovers must do.
“I’ve told you how we saved Biscotti but there are thousands of other dogs that have no hope without us. I can only continue my work if animal lovers like you make generous donations. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support of our lifesaving work.

THE 2018 TOUR DE FRANCE
Geraint Thomas’s triumph in this year’s Tour de France – probably the most exhaustive achievement in world sport – is of course worthy of the highest praise and adulation.
There was however a more worring aspect to this year’s Tour de France, and this was the sickening and unsporting “booing” of Team Sky riders (including Geraint Thomas himself) by certain sections of the French crowds. On the face of it this “booing” was centred on Chris Froome (probably the greatest cyclist of his generation, and last year’s Tour de France champion and the winner of this year’s Giro d’Italia) because of an earlier accusation of alleged performance-enhancing drug-taking made against him. This accusation was that he had initially been found to have more than the permitted level of the drug salbutamol in one of his urine samples. Salbutamol is one of the ingredients of asthma-inhaler sprays, and Chris Froome has always had official permission to use an asthma-inhaler when appropriate because of a medical condition.. It was subsequently discovered, however, that the amount of salbutamol claimed to have been found in his urine sample was far higher than could be contained in an asthma-spray, and as the initial test result was not confirmed by any subsequent test the initial test was therefore quite clearly flawed, and the accusation of drug-misuse was thus completely thrown out by the relevant anti-doping authorities. It is a pity therefore that certain sections of the French crowds would apparently not accept this official ruling, particularly as Chris Froome had already suffered considerably as a result of the false accusation made against him (he had not won last year’s BBC “Sports Personality of the Year Award” for instance, in spite of initially being the clear favourite – and indeed many people believe that the vote in this competition was “fixed” because the BBC did not wish to have their premier award presented to an alleged drugs-cheat!).
The antagonism against Chris Froome in French society actually goes much deeper than this however, for he is routinely referred to as “The African” in the French press. This is because he was born and brought-up in Kenya (pronounced “Keenya”) and then spent several years living in South Africa – but his ancestral roots are 100% British, in other words he is a true son of the British Empire!
Could it be, however, that this regrettable antagonism towards Team Sky in general and Chris Froome in particular is in reality because France haven’t produced a winner of their own prestigious Grand Tour event since Bernard Hinault in 1985? France is a great nation, and we hope that one day they will be able to produce another winner of their own main cycling event. In the meantime surely for the sake of the good name of their country all sections of French society should give their full praise to Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas for their fantastic achievements.

TAU (SA) MEDIA RELEASE
We have recently received a further very important Media Release from the Transvaal Agricultural Union (South Africa) which we believe is of equal importance to those which we circulated during the previous three months. It reads as follows :-
“Parliament’s decision to pass a motion regarding expropriation without compensation, resulted in two European projects in South African agriculture being cancelled. Those projects would have meant an inflow of several million Rand whilst creating thousands of work opportunities. Over and above the cancellation, TAU SA was involved in the establishment of a financing model which would have created affordable agricultural financial support, but those negotiations were also stalled after the announcement of the ANC policy of expropriation without compensation.
“’Furthermore, the announcement by the Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development that she is not going to wait for the recommendations of the ad-hoc committee regarding amendments to the Constitution, as well as the statement that government is preparing a test case regarding expropriation, send a negative message to international investors’, said Mr Louis Meintjes, president of TAU SA. ’Government must realise that the international community is not easily bluffed. The developments in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, are easily recalled and clearly indicate that expropriation is the first step to nationalisation which will result in a socialist system and eventually the establishment of a communist regime. As long as the ANC does not align itself with property rights and a free market system, capital will increasingly be invested elsewhere. The ultimate result of what government is currently introducing, is the collapse of the economy and the redistribution of poverty which will affect all of us. International business will invest where profit could be made, and they are clearly not willing to risk investments to support a failed ideology. It is not possible to send out a clearer message by expressing the intention to expropriate without compensation. In any developed society, this is regarded as theft, and efforts to disguise the intention to do so constitutionally, will not change that fact.’”

OBITUARY
SYD NOMIS
It was with much sadness that we learnt of the recent death of Syd Nomis, the highly-talented South African rugby international. Sydney Harold Nomis was born at Johannesburg in 1941, though he grew up and was educated in Cape Town. He returned to Johannesburg when his rugby career began however, playing all his provincial rugby for the Transvaal, for whom he appeared on 54 occasions. Although normally playing as a wing three-quarter he also occasionally played at centre. In all he represented the Springboks 54 times, 25 at full international level, and scored 45 tries.
Syd Nomis shot to international fame however when he was member of the 1969/70 South African Rugby tour of the British Isles. This tour was of course subjected to violent intimidation from evil far-left trash, and as a result the Springbok tourists were lionized by all British patriots and rugby enthusiasts. Syd Nomis, who enjoyed a particularly spectacular tour on the field, later admitted that he feared for his life at times at the hands of the sub-human scum, but neither he nor any of his team-mates ever contemplated withdrawing from the tour as a result. He openly stated that he was not a supporter of the National Party government of the time, but even so he was a loyal South African who believed that the country should be free to administer sports in the way which it thought best.
After his rugby-playing days were over Syd Nomis became a successful businessman in the printing, clothing and security trades, but after the advent of the ANC regime he moved to Switzerland, where alas blood-clots meant that he had to have his left leg amputated. Knowing that he was a dying man he decided to move back to his native Johannesburg to end his days. Syd Nomis was not only a great rugby player but also a great South African, whose name should never be forgotten. Our sincerest condolences are extended to his widow Ann and to his son and two daughters.

THE CURSE OF SWINTON
It was with much amusement that we recently learnt that on 14th May 2018 Jeremy Bedford-Turner (aka Jez Turner) had been sentenced to 12 months imprisonment for “Incitement to racial violence” at Southwark Crown Court following a vile and paranoid anti-Semitic tirade which he made in public in central London during 2015.
Keen readers of the SCN will remember that a meeting held by the Swinton Circle (now of course a component part of the Patriotic Forum) on 31st July 2015 was invaded by two dozen uninvited gate-crashers who then proceeded to disrupt and wreck proceedings. Jeremy Bedford-Turner was identified as one of these uninvited gate-crashers through his notoriety, and indeed was overheard saying that he had only come along in order “to see the fight” – thus proving that the whole disruption of the meeting had been pre-planned.
Bedford-Turner has not been the first of the gate-crashers of this meeting subsequently to be imprisoned however, for a certain Steve Uncles of the unsavoury splittist “English Democrats” party, who caused great offense by insulting the Union Flag at the disastrous meeting in question, was sentenced to seven months imprisonment for electoral fraud (see February 2017 and April 2017 SCNs). Furthermore the “LibertyUK” outfit, whose leader the Swinton Circle unwisely invited to address this meeting, with some of their leading members having infiltrated the Swinton Circle and subsequently arranging for the invasion of the extremist wreckers in an apparent cack-handed attempt to takeover the organisation, announced earlier this year that they were disbanding (see February 2018 SCN).
The notorious meeting of 31st July 2015 of course caused the Swinton Circle great problems, which the organisation only really recovered from by merging with New Britain in order to form the Patriotic Forum. Although the movement has survived the disastrous events of 31st July 2015 and is now indeed thriving once again, it seems as if those who sought to destroy the organisation have suffered all sorts of misfortunes. As the old saying goes: “He who laughs last laughs longest”!

August 2018 edition
In last month’s edition of the SCN we expressed great concern at the apparent censorship being operated by the mainstream media to prevent any mention of the case of Tommy Robinson, who had been arbitrarily imprisoned for “contempt of court” after he had made a live on-line speech outside Leeds Crown Court where a trial was taking place of an Islamic gang accused of various heinous sexual crimes against young women.
Within days of last month’s edition of the SCN appearing all reporting restrictions on the Tommy Robinson;s case were however lifted, and as a result many accurate reports about both his imprisonment itself and the resulting massive worldwide protests in his support started appearing in the mainstream media. A report on BBC2’s Newsnight featuring an in-depth interview with UKIP leader Gerald Batten proved particularly informative. It transpired furthermore that there was nothing particularly unique about reporting restrictions being placed on such cases whilst high-profile trials of serious relevant cases were taking place. Although the legal authorities were therefore undoubtredly at fault in taking such “over the top” action to prevent any reporting, this eventually turned out to be only of a temporary nature, and was in no way as sinister as it may at first seemed.
Only a few days aftrr all reporting restrictions were lifted, however, another even more encouraging development took place, as the Court of Appeal unanimously ruled that Tommy Robinson should be released pending a re-trial, as there had clearly been many serious legal errors made in the initial over-hasty judgement against him. The judges of the Court of Appeal are therefore to be congratulated upon their well-analysed common-sense ruling.
Perhaps the most significant aspect of this whole saga has been the revelation of how much support Tommy Robinson – a relatively obscure political activist – has been building-up, both within the UK itself and globally. Quite clearly he has been able to establish a massive network of support which has been “below the radar” of most observers. An analysis of his early history of political involvement shows that he has not been without fault, but even so his more recent activities confirm that he possesses true leadership ability, an astute understanding of the nature of the dangers facing Britain and the West in general, and of course great courage. Steve Bannan was unquestionably correct when he described him as “the backbone of the nation”. Surely no-one since John Enoch Powell has been able to galvanise patriotic sentiment within the British nation so successfully!
At much the same time as Tommy Robinson was released another prominent Briton was being subjected to intense criticism by the liberal-leftist chattering classes – but this time a mainstream politician, Alexander Boris Johnson. Mr. Johnson had written a newspaper article defending the right of Muslim women in the West to wear the burqa, but it was a couple of “throw-away” humourous comments which he made comparing the appearance of burqa-wearers tio bank robbers and pillar boxes which enraged the paranoid wrath of the multi-culturalists. The claim has been made that Boris Johnson only made these comments in order to gain support from the vast majority of British people who are opposed to non-White immigration – but surely if this had been his intention then he would have opposed the wearing of the burqa in the West entirely? As things have turned out there has been a hysterical reaction against him by the usual suspects, including reprehensively many prominent figures within the Conservative Party, with demands being made that he “apologise” for these harmless humourous comments. So far Boris Johnson has refused to make such a ridiculous apology, and by so doing has turned himself into another rallying figure for patriotic opposition to multi-culturalism – albeit undoubtedly an unintended and highly unlikely one!
Whether either Tommy Robinson or Boris Johnson can emerge as a new Enoch Powell in order to lead the British people in this time of great national danger is uncertain – but one thing is clear, and that is that the current upsurge of patriotic sentiment will ensure that a new Enoch Powell will eventually emerge!

SPRINGBOK CLUB NEWS
On Thursday 23rd August the Springbok Club will be staging a trip to the British Library, 96 Euston Road, London NW1 2DB, in order to view a special exhibition being held there about Capt. James Cook entitled “James Cook: The Voyages”. Enter by the main entrance to the British Library, and then rendezvous besides the sculptured book seat at approximately 14.30 hrs. (NB: there will be a small admission charge of £14.00 to view this exhibition, though concessions for students and OAPs are available). Following the trip to this exhibition the Springbok Club party will adjourn to a near-by hostelry for friendly conversations to the day.

THE CEREMONY OF THE RAISING OF THE FLAG
to be held at Southrepps Hall, Hall Road, Southrepps, Norfolk, NR11 8TG, on Sunday 16th September 2018.
Assemble from 12.00 noon onwards, the actual ceremony to commence at 14.30 hrs.
The day will include :-
Tea and light refreshments to be served in the Hall upon arrival
Live music to accompany the ceremony
The hoisting of the Union Flag by an expatriate Rhodesian.
A short religious ceremony including prayers that have said since 1890, including the Inaugural Prayer.
Keynote speeches by two prominent Rhodesians
A twenty-one gun salute
The sounding of the Last Post and the playing of both the British and Rhodesian National Anthems.
Convivial socialising with other ex-Rhodesians and friends of Rhodesia
On the morning of Saturday 13th September 1890, the day after the Pioneer Column arrived at the site of what was to become the City of Salisbury, the capital of the newly established nation of Rhodesia, Lt. E.C. “Teddy” Tindale-Biscoe raised the Union Flag for the first time at the spot which later became Cecil Square. Every year thereafter this event was re-enacted with an official ceremony at the same place – until the unfortunate advent of the ZANU-PF regime in 1980.
In spite of the fact that the new rulers of that land between the Zambezi and the Limpopo discontinued this ceremony, a true Rhodesian patriot named Peter Charles Kerrison Sladden was determined that this inspirational tradition should continue in one form or another. Peter Sladden was a truly remarkable man. He had been born at Fulham in 1919 and had served with distinction in the RAF during WWII. After the end of this conflict, being a strong Empire and Commonwealth man, he decided to emigrate to what was then Southern Rhodesia, where he quickly established himself and founded a highly-successful construction and engineering company. Quite naturally he did not wish to remain in the country under ZANU-PF rule, so returned to the UK in 1980 where he purchased the manor and estate of Southrepps in Norfolk and embarked upon a new equally successful career as an arable and pig farmer. He did not forget his beloved Rhodesia however, and from 1981 onwards continued the traditional “Raising of the Flag” ceremony which had taken place in Rhodesia itself from 1890 until 1980 in the grounds of his estate in Norfolk.
Sadly Peter Sladden died last year – albeit at the ripe old age of 98 and having lived a most happy and successful life, being active almost to the end. Many of his family members and friends have been determined that the tradition of the “Raising of the Flag” ceremony which Peter had devoted so much of his time in maintaining should continue however, and despite the fact that it has taken a great amount of time, effort and costs to organise we are happy announce that this ceremony will take place again at the same venue at Southrepps Manor in Norfolk this year as normal.
We are therefore most grateful to Peter’s family members for making these facilities available to us again, and as this will be the first occasion that the ceremony will have taken place since Peter’s sad death this year’s event will take the form of a special tribute to his memory, with one of the key-note speeches to be made by a family member telling more about the life and achievements of the great man. We hope therefore that you will make every effort to join us for this year’s ceremony.

PATRIOTIC FORUM NEWS
The Patriotic Forum staged a most enjoyable and informative meeting last month which was addressed by Mr. Marko Gasic, the eminent Serbian spokesman in London. Mr. Gasic had edited the recently-published and highly-acclaimed book detailing the true origins and causes of WW1, “Folly and Malice: the Habsburg Empire, the Balkans and the Start of World War One”, and in his speech he explained the significance of many of the often overlooked and forgotten facts concerning the build-up to WW1 which were chronicled in this book, with particular emphasis on events and developments in the Balkans at the start of the 20th century.

MESSAGE FROM THE NETWORK FOR ANIMALS
We have recently received the following disturbing message from the Network for Animals organisation. This surely says everything about the descent into savagery which has taken lace in the “new” South Africa. It reads as follows :-
“There is a simple reason the puppy we rescued in the gangster-ridden South African slum called Khayelitsha is named Biscotti.
“Vicious brutes threw boiling water over poor little Biscotti scalding her so horribly that parts of her skin were burnt like a biscotti biscuit.
“Biscotti and her two siblings were just six weeks old when some monster decided to kill the puppies.
“Biscotti’s mother looked on from behind a wire fence as her puppies were tortured.
“More boiling water was being readied; the monsters were going to scald all the puppies to death. A good Samaritan called Fallen Angels and our team got there in the nick of time.
“We rescued Biscotti and her two siblings, and they are all doing well. The tragedy is there are so many other dogs that need our help in South Africa’s slums.
“There are literally thousands of criminally abused dogs in Khayelitsha and they need our help every single day.
“Dogs in Khayelitsha are at constant peril of casual, brutal cruelty.
“The level of ignorance about animals in these slums is hard to comprehend. We were told that dogs don’t feel pain, that dogs don’t need to eat every day and it’s okay to keep them tied up without shade in fierce heat. We try to teach the people how to care for animals.
“We rescue, medically treat and care for as many street dogs as we can.
“Right now more than 700 dogs in the Cape Town area depend upon the support you and other animal lovers give me.
“It’s dangerous work because we face gangsters who kidnap dogs to use as bait in illegal dog fighting – the dogs are literally torn to pieces so gamblers can see which fighting dogs are most vicious. They say that if we continue our work they will kill my team, but that won’t stop us. We will carry on in spite of the threats because that is what we animal lovers must do.
“I’ve told you how we saved Biscotti but there are thousands of other dogs that have no hope without us. I can only continue my work if animal lovers like you make generous donations. I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support of our lifesaving work.

THE 2018 TOUR DE FRANCE
Geraint Thomas’s triumph in this year’s Tour de France – probably the most exhaustive achievement in world sport – is of course worthy of the highest praise and adulation.
There was however a more worring aspect to this year’s Tour de France, and this was the sickening and unsporting “booing” of Team Sky riders (including Geraint Thomas himself) by certain sections of the French crowds. On the face of it this “booing” was centred on Chris Froome (probably the greatest cyclist of his generation, and last year’s Tour de France champion and the winner of this year’s Giro d’Italia) because of an earlier accusation of alleged performance-enhancing drug-taking made against him. This accusation was that he had initially been found to have more than the permitted level of the drug salbutamol in one of his urine samples. Salbutamol is one of the ingredients of asthma-inhaler sprays, and Chris Froome has always had official permission to use an asthma-inhaler when appropriate because of a medical condition.. It was subsequently discovered, however, that the amount of salbutamol claimed to have been found in his urine sample was far higher than could be contained in an asthma-spray, and as the initial test result was not confirmed by any subsequent test the initial test was therefore quite clearly flawed, and the accusation of drug-misuse was thus completely thrown out by the relevant anti-doping authorities. It is a pity therefore that certain sections of the French crowds would apparently not accept this official ruling, particularly as Chris Froome had already suffered considerably as a result of the false accusation made against him (he had not won last year’s BBC “Sports Personality of the Year Award” for instance, in spite of initially being the clear favourite – and indeed many people believe that the vote in this competition was “fixed” because the BBC did not wish to have their premier award presented to an alleged drugs-cheat!).
The antagonism against Chris Froome in French society actually goes much deeper than this however, for he is routinely referred to as “The African” in the French press. This is because he was born and brought-up in Kenya (pronounced “Keenya”) and then spent several years living in South Africa – but his ancestral roots are 100% British, in other words he is a true son of the British Empire!
Could it be, however, that this regrettable antagonism towards Team Sky in general and Chris Froome in particular is in reality because France haven’t produced a winner of their own prestigious Grand Tour event since Bernard Hinault in 1985? France is a great nation, and we hope that one day they will be able to produce another winner of their own main cycling event. In the meantime surely for the sake of the good name of their country all sections of French society should give their full praise to Chris Froome and Geraint Thomas for their fantastic achievements.

TAU (SA) MEDIA RELEASE
We have recently received a further very important Media Release from the Transvaal Agricultural Union (South Africa) which we believe is of equal importance to those which we circulated during the previous three months. It reads as follows :-
“Parliament’s decision to pass a motion regarding expropriation without compensation, resulted in two European projects in South African agriculture being cancelled. Those projects would have meant an inflow of several million Rand whilst creating thousands of work opportunities. Over and above the cancellation, TAU SA was involved in the establishment of a financing model which would have created affordable agricultural financial support, but those negotiations were also stalled after the announcement of the ANC policy of expropriation without compensation.
“’Furthermore, the announcement by the Minister of Land Reform and Rural Development that she is not going to wait for the recommendations of the ad-hoc committee regarding amendments to the Constitution, as well as the statement that government is preparing a test case regarding expropriation, send a negative message to international investors’, said Mr Louis Meintjes, president of TAU SA. ’Government must realise that the international community is not easily bluffed. The developments in Eastern Europe and the Soviet Union, are easily recalled and clearly indicate that expropriation is the first step to nationalisation which will result in a socialist system and eventually the establishment of a communist regime. As long as the ANC does not align itself with property rights and a free market system, capital will increasingly be invested elsewhere. The ultimate result of what government is currently introducing, is the collapse of the economy and the redistribution of poverty which will affect all of us. International business will invest where profit could be made, and they are clearly not willing to risk investments to support a failed ideology. It is not possible to send out a clearer message by expressing the intention to expropriate without compensation. In any developed society, this is regarded as theft, and efforts to disguise the intention to do so constitutionally, will not change that fact.’”

What I was struck by was the number of working class people, mainly men. How the left has changed. Its adherents now are much more likely to be middle class people with degrees.

OBITUARY
SYD NOMIS
It was with much sadness that we learnt of the recent death of Syd Nomis, the highly-talented South African rugby international. Sydney Harold Nomis was born at Johannesburg in 1941, though he grew up and was educated in Cape Town. He returned to Johannesburg when his rugby career began however, playing all his provincial rugby for the Transvaal, for whom he appeared on 54 occasions. Although normally playing as a wing three-quarter he also occasionally played at centre. In all he represented the Springboks 54 times, 25 at full international level, and scored 45 tries.
Syd Nomis shot to international fame however when he was member of the 1969/70 South African Rugby tour of the British Isles. This tour was of course subjected to violent intimidation from evil far-left trash, and as a result the Springbok tourists were lionized by all British patriots and rugby enthusiasts. Syd Nomis, who enjoyed a particularly spectacular tour on the field, later admitted that he feared for his life at times at the hands of the sub-human scum, but neither he nor any of his team-mates ever contemplated withdrawing from the tour as a result. He openly stated that he was not a supporter of the National Party government of the time, but even so he was a loyal South African who believed that the country should be free to administer sports in the way which it thought best.
After his rugby-playing days were over Syd Nomis became a successful businessman in the printing, clothing and security trades, but after the advent of the ANC regime he moved to Switzerland, where alas blood-clots meant that he had to have his left leg amputated. Knowing that he was a dying man he decided to move back to his native Johannesburg to end his days. Syd Nomis was not only a great rugby player but also a great South African, whose name should never be forgotten. Our sincerest condolences are extended to his widow Ann and to his son and two daughters.
