At a time when the politically-correct left and the anti-Semitic pseudo-right seem united in their condemnation of the Israeli military operation against Hamas terrorists in the Gaza Strip, it is worth recalling just who started and have continued the ongoing violence by firing Katyusha rockets against innocent Israeli civilians for months on end.

If we have a criticism of successive Israeli governments it is their apparent continuing policy of appeasement towards Palestinian terrorists. We cannot forget the disgusting manner in which they forced peaceful Israeli settlers to abandon their lawful settlements, first in Sinai and then on the Gaza Strip, simply in order to appease the Arabs and liberal world opinion - and then did nothing to prevent Katyusha missiles being fired for months on end against their citizens in southern Israel.
All Israeli governments, alas, seem to have been guilty of this lack of resolve up until now. It was the Labour Government of Ehud Barack which withdrew from southern Lebanon and abandoned the basically Christian South Lebanese Army - an act of betrayal which not only left Lebanese Christians to a terrible fate, but which also allowed Hezbollah terrorists to start firing missiles on northern Israeli settlements and towns. It was the Likud governments of Netanyahu and Sharon which - after "talking tough" whilst in opposition - were prepared to negotiate with and surrender to Palestinian militants once in power. It was the Kadima government of Ehud Olmert which kow-towed to liberal world opinion by curtailing the necessary military operation in Lebanon
Alas the track records of both Ehud Barack (leader of Labour) and Binyamin Netanyahu (leader of Likud) do not give great reason for hope. Kadima now has a new leader however, a woman, Tzipi Livni. Britain

SPRINGBOK CLUB DAY OF THE VOW COMMEMORATIONS
The Springbok Club's 2008 event to commemorate the Day of the Vow proved to be a most inspiring success, with the biggest attendance ever for this annual function. The day commenced with a demonstration of Victorian-era military drill and the firing of Martini-Henry rifles by The Diehards military re-enactment society, who also put on display a large range of literature and artefacts dating from the era. After this all in attendance adjourned to enjoy a succulent braai, at which Jon Morris performed the duties as "braai-master general" with superb excellency! To round off the day there was an extra surprise attraction, for Gary Vincent gave a most enthralling illustrated talk about George Comberton, a Belfast-born man who had moved to the locality in the east end of London, before serving with distinction during the Zulu Wars.

SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING
The Springbok Club/Empire Loyalist Club's 2009 AGM will be held on Saturday 17th January. All fully paid up members of the Springbok Club/ELC should have received official notification of this event by now, but if you are a current member and have not received official notification then please 'phone 07711188430 as soon as possible to receive the precise details. At the conclusion of business side of affairs at this AGM there will be a brief talk to be given by a leading EuroSceptic currently serving with one of the EU institutions in Brussels

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC EVENTS
The Springbok Club/ELC is planning to organise a visit to Gibraltar in late February 2009 in order to witness the Freedom of the Rock being granted to the Royal Marines. If any supporter is keen to join this trip then please e-mail us at: springbok@falklands.org or 'phone: 07711188430.
In March 2009 the Springbok Club/ELC will be staging a meeting to be addressed by a prominent soldier who fought with both the RLI during the Bush War and subsequently with the SADF. More details will be given in future editions of the SCN.
In April 2009 the Springbok Club/ELC will be holding a special event in order to celebrate Van Riebeeck's Day, at which it is anticipated that an important expatriate South African personality will be guest of honour.

SPRINGBOK CLUB BRANCH NEWS
In early February 2009 the Kent Branch of the Springbok Club/ELC is planning to hold a social gathering, at which a former Rhodesian serviceman will give an informal talk about his Bush War experiences.
Both the London Branch and a rejuvenated Chilterns Branch plan to hold social get-togethers early during the year. It is also anticipated that a Springbok Club/ELC branch will be re-established in Northern Ireland New Zealand

WORLD CUP WILLIES
A recent edition of "Preparing South Africa for the World" (the official newsletter of the 2010 Soccer World Cup organising committee) which we have received contained the following most revealing editorial :-
"At a recent media briefing with FIFA Communications Director Hans Klaus, a journalist said (tongue-in-cheek, we hope) the sport's governing body should 'fix' next year's Confederations Cup to ensure that South Africa's not-so-beloved Bafana Bafana won the tournament. The Tombstone of Thomas Kavanagh VC in Gibraltar has been refurbished recently by Charles Anes & Son, sponsored by Isola's. On Friday 14th November a short ceremony was held at the North Front Cemetery Gibraltar 's link with the prestigious order of the Victoria Cross. Wreaths were laid by the Royal British Legion and by the Royal Engineers, with contingents coming from Estepona.

THE RHODESIAN INDEPENDENCE

SPRINGBOK DAY PROPOSAL
The following most intriguing report has recently reached us concerning the ongoing attempts by the ANC regime to force South African rugby authorities to abandon the Springbok emblem, and the growing resistance to this. We believe, furthermore, that at least one former Springbok rugby captain is an active supporter of this campaign. The report which we have received reads as follows :-
"As you are no doubt aware, the Springbok emblem is once again under attack, specifically by the South African Parliament's Sport Portfolio Committee. They demand nothing less than the complete abolition of the Springbok emblem and it's replacement by the 'King Protea' as the symbol for rugby. They also demand no further use of the term, Springboks, to describe the South African national team. They will not consider any compromises. So much for building the 'Rainbow Nation', reconciliation and fashioning the united non-racial society! The driving force behind this lunacy is Butana Khompela, the same man who threatened to confiscate the Springbok team and management's passports before the [Rugby ] World Cup, if the team was not 'transformed enough.' Despite the massive support show by the country for the Springboks during both World Cup wins, this little bureaucrat with an axe to grind continues to seek the destruction of a beloved emblem which has been in existence for over 100 years. What can we do? On 1st December 2008 , South Africans all over the globe are planning to stand up in visible protest against political interference in the issue over the Springbok emblem. On that day we ask all of you to wear your hat, blanket, jersey, t-shirt, cap, scarf, pants, gloves or whatever, with the Springbok emblem on it. Whether it is to work, school, church or even Parliament, as long as the emblem can be seen. Send this e-mail to all South Africans and fair-minded friends of South Africans so that they may take part on the 1st December. Whatever you do, REMEMBER, 1st DECEMBER 2008 , IS THE DAY ON WHICH YOU CAN TAKE PART IN A WORLDWIDE PROTEST ACTION. Supporters do it in green - with the 'Bok on their chests. Send this to all 'Bok supporters that you know and let's show support round the globe."
Alas this message reached us too late for the Springbok Club to partake in 'Springbok Day' 2008 - but if, as we hope, this proves to be an annual day of protest then we will guarantee our full solidarity from 2009 onwards. No doubt further reports will be appearing in future SCNs.

No.122 : Capt. J.R. ODENDAAL MC, MBE, RM (Ret'd)
Capt. Odendaal served with EXTREME distinction in the Royal Marines during WWII. A proud Afrikaner, he nonetheless became a Naval Attache to the British Royal Family at the conclusion of WWII, becoming a firm admirer of King George VI and the young Princesses (though detesting Lord Mountbatten!). Although a natural "Smuts Man", his contempt for the sell-out NP governments of Vorster and Botha gravitated him towards the HNP, where he became a natural and strong supporter of S.A.Patriot and the Patriotic Forum. Because of his war wounds he had an artificial leg, and proudly proclaimed that he hung a large portrait of Queen Victoria
Alas we doubt and fear very much whether Capt. Odendaal is still with us. We would even so be very keen to hear from anyone who knew him, or who have contact with his family.

50 people are murdered every day and over 130 rape cases reported. Don't take this too serious; most are Blacks killing and raping Blacks. South Africa

It should be remembered that in 1990, prior to de Klerk's treason and sell-out, the White population was estimated to be 6 million. 6 million - 3 million = 3 million.

I must say that I am opposed to English Nationalism, Scottish Nationalism, Welsh Nationalism, Ulster Nationalism or Irish Nationalism. Our group is a pro-British victims' group, and while we have been given a most unfair deal by the English establishment over many years, our orientation is still towards, and as an integral part of, the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I will challenge anyone who on this point.

ROGUES GALLERY
Most readers will undoubtedly remember the ongoing problems which we have encountered from a young gentleman named Arthur Kemp. Kemp initially gave every appearance of being a staunch supporter of our movement, even writing regularly for the original S.A.Patriot. All this changed in the mid-1990s however, when he first aligned himself with the ANC regime, but then adopted an overtly neo-Nazi image. This third persona has survived until today however, as a few years ago he relocated to the UK Rhodesia
"'My father’s family left Gillingham in 1922 to settle in the British colony of Southern Rhodesia ,' he [Kemp] said. 'When British people arrived in Southern Rhodesia , it was open barren bush. Through their ingenuity and skill, they built schools, roads, hospitals, universities, towns, cities, dams and created a mini-Britain in that country. The sad truth was, however, that all this was created at the expense of the local Black tribes, the Matabele and the Shona. British people forced their way of life, their culture, their language onto the local people, and forced them to change from their traditional culture to something else, which was foreign to them. Now people often ask if I am prepared to apologise for colonialism. Some say that it benefited the local people, others say that it caused trouble in those places. While I was only born there, and did not actually take part in the initial settlement, I am prepared to apologise for colonialism. What I say is this: it was wrong for British people to go to Africa and force Africa to become an extension of Britain
Surely this report, if nothing else, confirms emphatically the phoney nature of both Mr. Kemp and the party which he now represents.

OBITUARY
CONOR CRUISE O'BRIEN
Conor Cruise O'Brien (aka Conor "Booze" O'Brien), who died last month, was a brilliant though very complex figure, who excelled in many fields. Born into a Roman Catholic Republican Irish family he initially adopted all the usual trendy liberal intellectual causes, particularly by opposing White colonisation in Africa . The United Nations placed him in command of their military operations in the Congo Congo Africa . He also came to reject and to become a fierce critic of Irish Republicanism - not only its terrorist aspects but also the very pseudo nature of the nationalism itself. He went even further than this, however, and became a firm supporter of the Unionist cause, even becoming a leading official in the UK Unionist Party. Conor Cruise O'Brien's intellectual honesty therefore overcame the biased background of his upbringing. We salute his memory.
