June 2001 Edition.

June 2001 edition

The forthcoming British General Election is of the utmost importance.

This is not only because the present Blair administration has been a total disaster, and furthermore has been prepared to appease terrorists in both the Southern African and Northern Ireland contexts - but also because, perhaps more importantly, William Hague is showing all the signs of becoming a great leader who could revitalise Britain as a world power.

We have not always been such strong supporters of William Hague of course (we made no secret of our support for John Redwood during the 1997 Conservative Party leadership election), but during subsequent years we have warmed more and more to the man. He possesses true Yorkshire grit, has increasingly shown himself to be a "gut" patriot, and demonstrates all the hallmarks of making the strongest [male] British Prime Minister since Sir Winston Churchill.

In spite of all the opinion polls indicating a Labour landslide this may not necessarily be the case. Who can forget the surprise Conservative victory in 1992 when all the opinion polls predicted an equally large Labour majority - and those with longer memories will recall an exactly similar "turn up for the books" in 1970.
We therefore urge all of our readers who are registered to vote in Great Britain to make sure that they support the Conservative Party on Thursday June 7th - and furthermore that they encourage as many family members and friends as possible to do likewise.

We know that several of our readers are strong supporters of UKIP however. Our own experiences of this party are not very pleasant. This present writer, although never a member of their organisation, once received a letter "expelling" him from the party - merely because of his South African connection! If we are to ignore this bizarre action of trying to expell a non-member (which clearly demonstrates the totally disorganised nature of the party) this antagonistic action against a potential supporter only confirms that their professed patriotic sentiments are not all what they seem. Regardless of this fact, moreover, a vote for UKIP will only split the Eurosceptic vote, and thereby will be to the advantage of the Labour/LibDem Eurofanatics. Lord Tebbit has already revealed that there is strong evidence that UKIP is being financed by pro-EU elements precisely for this purpose, and our own disturbing experiences of the party only tends to confirm some very sinister influences involved.

If we are serious in our desire for Britain to become disentangled from EU entrapment and to resume our traditional status as a global power - and thereby to become more directly concerned with our kith and kin still trapped in Southern Africa - then there is only one action to take on June 7th - and that is to vote Conservative.

We are very pleased to announce that our guest speaker for our June Springbok Club meeting will be Mr. John Redfern.

John Redfern is the Honorary National Secretary of the "Flame Lily Foundation", an organisation of ex-Rhodesians living in South Africa which incorporates the "Rhodesia Association of South Africa". Born and educated in Rhodesia, John Redfern had a distinguished military career in the Rhodesian Army (particularly in the Intelligence corps) rising to the rank of Colonel. He was commissioned from the Royal Military Academy at Sandhurst, and also studied at a number of other military training schools in the UK. He won several military awards, including the Southern Cross Medal, the Military Merit Medal and the Unitas Medal, and subequently transferred to the South African Defence Force in 1980. He now works as a freelance tourist guide, specialising in organising small tours for military history and wildlife enthusiasts. In his talk to the Springbok Club he will tell us more about the history, aims and achievements of the "Flame Lily Foundation", as well as his personal views and experiences of the security situation in Southern Africa during recent years.
Details of this forthcoming SC meeting are as follows :-

Date  :   Thursday 21st June 2001

Time  :   19.15 hrs for 19.45 hrs.

Venue :   The MORPETH ARMS (in the upstairs function room), 58 Millbank, Westminster, London SW1. (close to the Tate Gallery and Vauxhall Bridge, nearest underground station: Pimlico).

During the next few months the Springbok Club will be concentrating on more social events and branch development.

In July our Hampshire Branch will be holding an "open meeting" in Southampton, during which Mr. Rob Burnett will give a brief outline of his planned Southern African-orientated film projects.

In August it is hoped that the Chilterns Branch will be officially founded with a braai at a pub in the Chilterns area. We also hope to welcome a well-known guest of honour at this event.

During September we will be staging a "Lincolnshire weekend" at a village in South Lincolnshire, and hope that all supporters who live in the area or who are able to make the journey will be able to join us.

Needless to say, full details concerning all these events will be notified as soon as full arrangements have been finalised.

The London Swinton Circle will be holding a buffet dinner on June 19th in central London when their guest speaker will be Michael Gove, the prominent "Times" journalist. If you are interested in attending this event then please let us know.

The Rhodesian Christian Group staged a highly successful and very well attended reception in honour of the Hon. Ian Douglas Smith at the RAF Club in London at the end of last month.
In an inspiring speech, which was delivered entirely without notes, Ian Smith made a powerful attack upon the evils emanating from the present Mugabe regime in "Zimbabwe", and told how even some members of Mugabe's own ZANU/PF party and the South African government now wanted him to go, as they considered him to be an embarrassment to Black Africa. Ian Smith then went on to praise the genius of the British people over the centuries, which had initiated the industrial revolution, had made great scientific and medical discoveries, and had founded the greatest Empire which the world had ever seen - exemplified by Cecil John Rhodes and his "Cape to Cairo" vision. He was worried about the present state of the British nation however, which seemed to have lost faith in itself, and called upon the younger generation to re-capture its former glories and self-belief.

Africa Adieu Digest addresses issues involving African wildlife and related topics. In their latest edition they expose a so-called "hunt" with handguns, bows and arrows and dogs in Zimbabwe, the majority of the hunters coming from America. There is an ongoing international protest against this, and people are being urged to e-mail the Zimbabwean authorities concerned.

The "hunts" are a spin-off from Environment and Tourism minister Francisco Nhema's recent trip to Las Vegas, where he wooed rich American hunters. Nhema promised the Americans that the hunting safari would not be adversely affected by the invasion of private property last year by landless self-proclaimed veterans of the Zimbabwean war - many of whom are reportedly too young to have had any involvement. The Zimbabwean killing orgy was expected to earn about US$1.3 million.

Commencing from 4th May 2001 53 hunters from the USA, South Africa, Denmark, Egypt and Germany are scheduled to arrive in Zimbabwe to conduct "trial" hunts utilising handguns, bows and arrows and hounds. Animal Welfare organisations and legislators have had on-going disputes over these practices because they are unethical, and the ability of the hunters to kill humanely, with skill and efficiency, is questionable.

A regular feature in which we ask whether anyone knows the current whereabouts of friends or colleagues who has lost contact.

No.32 :  Advocate and Mrs. Martin Louw

Martin Louw was the son of former South African Minister for Foreign and Economic Affairs Dr. Eric Louw. Martin Louw was no less of a brilliant man himself however, being a leading lawyer and a skilled sportsman in his youth. Martin Louw and his wife Lorraine were well-known and much admired personalities in the Durban area, and their two children, Johannes and Lizelle, also inherited their family brilliance both academically and in the realm of sport. Johannes graduated from the University of Potchefstroom having studied journalism and communications, whilst also excelling at both rugby and cricket. Lizelle followed in her father's footsteps by entering the legal profession, and was also a skilled netball player. It is believed that Martin and Lorraine Louw moved to Verwoerdburg upon retiring, whereas Johannes was last known of still living in Durban and working for the SAP in media-relations. Lizelle is believed to have married and now to be living and practising in Pretoria. Any news about the current whereabouts of any of the family would be most appreciated.

As is probably known to everyone, that great South African patriot Clive Derby-Lewis still languishes in Pretoria Jail following a Stalinist show-trial during which he was implicated in the assassination of the terrorist Chris Hani. Alas all appeals and applications for amnesty have been turned down by the ANC regime, which culminated in an unsuccessful appeal against the refusal to grant him amnesty at the Cape Supreme Court on 7th May 2001.

A web-site has has now been constructed in his honour which gives the background to this great man, his show-trial, and his continuing unjustified imprisonment. This web-site furthermore gives details of the plight of other current political prisoners of the ANC regime, as well as highlighting the continuing slaughter of farmers in the "new" South Africa. This site can be accessed at:-

There was no sorrow at the offices of the SCN when we heard the news of the sudden and mysterious death of the "Zimbabwean" terrorist and farm invader Chenjerai "Hitler" Hunzvi recently. We had for long attacked the appropriately named "Hitler" Hunzvi and all that he represented, and called for overseas intervention to halt his evil antics. It is quite surprising, however, how often those who we are in conflict with meet a sticky end. Messrs. Kemp, Tuohy, Ryden and Plaistowe please note!
