January 2008 Edition.

SPRINGBOK CYBER NEWSLETTER

January 2008 edition

Unlike many commentators we were not surprised in the least by the election of Jacob Zuma as leader of the ANC (and thereby probably the next President of the "new" South Africa), and neither were we particularly alarmed by this development.

Zuma after all, unlike Thabo Mbeki, represents the true face of the unreconstructed ANC terrorist organisation, and is a direct throw-back to the convicted criminal Mandela. Unlike Mbeki, both Zuma and Mandela - and indeed Mbeki's own father - were "hands on" terrorists; Mbeki himself, however, was never directly involved in terrorist acts of violence, and spent many of his early years studying at the University of Sussex, where he presumably managed to learn something.

Mbeki's term of office as "new" South African president did not start very encouragingly; it saw a continuation of the anti-White terror, escalation of crime, and the economic disintegration which typified the Mandela years - plus of course some absolutely lunatic pronouncements about the causes of HIV/AIDS! Towards the end of his term of office, however, things started to change; the crime rate, although not reduced, did not increase at the same rate, and the economic collapse of the country was halted, so that incredibly there has even been economic growth in South Africa during the past couple of years! The reason for this seems to be obvious, and that is because Mbeki decided to embrace - if somewhat reluctantly - the capitalist system (evidently his years at the University of Sussex DID have a positive effect!). Needless to say this pro-capitalist stance has mortified the ANC's main string-pullers, the South African Communist Party - and this of course was the reason why the SACP abandoned Mbeki and orchestrated the pliable Zuma's victory at the recent ANC convention.

But was any other outcome ever possible? In years to come the Mbeki interlude will probably be viewed as a very surprising "golden age" between the predictable Mandela and Zuma eras. But this therefore begs another question; did the Whites of South Africa ever really deserve anything other than the renewed fate which now confronts them under Zuma? After all they voted 2 to 1 in both the 1983 and 1992 referenda for sell-out and surrender, which all but the most myopic must have realised would lead INEVITABLY to ANC terrorist rule by the likes of Mandela and Zuma.

In spite of the Mbeki interlude ANC rule can only result in one long-term outcome - the complete disintegration of the South African state into yet another Black African basket-case, with no place for Whites whatsoever. The sooner that this inevitability comes about the better as far as we are concerned, for the sooner the complete collapse occurs then the sooner that Western intervention to re-establish a civilised South Africa can be forthcoming. Our advice to all Whites still residing in that unfortunate land still remains the same therefore. You may have experienced a surprising - and undeserved - interlude of RELATIVE safety during the latter Mbeki years, but this era is rapidly approaching its end. Therefore get out of that sorry country and soon as you can and by whatever means you can!

SPRINGBOK CLUB/ELC 2008 AGM

The Springbok Club/ELC held a most successful AGM last month. After very encouraging reports by both the Organiser and the Treasurer of the organisation, and a highly optimistic review by the Branch Development Officer, elections were held for the various office holders for 2008 (elections which were conducted by Mr. James Lewis). The current Executive Committee members were all re-elected, with the exception that Mr. Paul Armstrong was voted in to take the place of the late Bill Binding. [Specific positions within ExCo will be decided upon at the next ExCo meeting.] Ex-officio election results were that Ryan Kriste was re-elected as Official Translator, and Robert Shipley and David Williams were elected jointly as Overseas Liaison Officers. Two motions were then proposed and passed unanimously. The first stated: "It is proposed that the Springbok Club/ELC should endeavour every year to discover a statue or memorial somewhere in the UK to a great Imperial Patriot who has a significant birth anniversary during the year in question, and to stage a visit to the town or city where that statue or memorial stands in order to place thereupon a wreath in honour of the hero in question." The second stated: "It is proposed that the Springbok Club/ELC should purchase a suitable statuette, and to award it on an annual basis in memory of Mike Skelly to the person chosen each year by a majority vote of the Executive Committee as 'Patriot of the Year'".

After the business side of the AGM was concluded Dr. John Pope-de Locksley, the nephew of Bill Binding, gave a most enlightening eulogy to his dear uncle and long-standing and dedicated member of the SC/ELC who sadly died during November, which he illustrated by passing around photographs of Bill both whilst he was still living in South Africa and subsequently after his return to the UK.

At their Winter Buffet the London Swinton Circle welcomed Mr. Nigel Farage MEP, the leader of UKIP, as guest speaker. REPORT FROM THE INTERNATIONAL FUND FOR ANIMAL WELFARE

Japan's whaling fleet is due to leave for the Southern Ocean Sanctuary in the next week and plans to kill 50 endangered humpback whales, as well as around 1,000 other whales, in the name of 'science'. Please e-mail your MP today and ask that he or she writes to Foreign Secretary David Miliband to help stop this needless killing.

Whaling is cruel – it can take over half an hour for a whale to die – and whales are worth more alive than dead. Whale-watching provides a valuable income to coastal communities in over 87 countries around the world.

There is no need to kill whales to study them. IFAW's whale research boat, Song of the Whale, carries out non-invasive research on marine mammals around the world; proof that you don't have to kill whales to study them. Scientists have condemned so-called 'scientific whaling' because new research methods make it easier than ever before to study whales without harming them.

Despite recent success at the last International Whaling Commission meeting, there are still many whales being needlessly killed.

The UK Government needs to raise the whaling issue with pro-whaling countries and encourage them to support whale conservation. Many whale species have still not recovered from previous intensive whaling. It is critical that the UK Government takes the lead in this grave animal welfare and conservation issue, and it is vital that we tell them so.

TELEGRAPH REFUSES TO PUBLISH TRIBUTE TO IAN SMITH

Following the death of the Hon. Ian Smith a supporter from Sussex, Mrs. Flora Jenner, tried to place a tribute to the great man in the Personal Columns of the Daily Telegraph. This personal insertion was to have read as follows :-

"Ian Smith. Humanitarian, Hero, Statesman. Betrayed by lesser men. Remembered with admiration."

What happened next was both bizarre and worrying. In Mrs.Jenner's own words :-

"This was accepted but I, myself, questioned the insertion of 'betrayed..', she said she would phone me back about this. Shortly after I had a call from the Telegraph saying that the entire notice could be inserted and that it was quite acceptable as it stood. Some hours later the paper phoned me again to say the 'High Ups' had vetoed the entire notice.

"I was told that an obituary would appear the next day and that I was 'not the only one' who had been refused this service.

"You probably read the obituary which was factual but not in any way giving him credit for his courage and resolution, rather the notion that he was deceitful and stubborn.

"My opinion about all this is that it had been decided that there was to be no public expression of admiration for him and that the common people must be silenced - as we always are on matters of significance. Meanwhile the establishment can have free reign to continue its usual p.c. line unchallenged. What is chilling is that we are not talking about The Guardian or the Morning Star - but the 'Tory-graph'!"

Did anyone else experience similar problems in trying to pay tribute to the Hon. Ian Smith we therefore wonder - either in the Daily Telegraph or elsewhere? We would be very keen to obtain details if anyone else did.

Packed with conflict and sexual tension, anyone who loves romance, passion and excitement should enjoy reading this story.

Trisha Jackson was born and grew up in Rhodesia. She immigrated to the USA with her husband and three children in 1990. She and her husband live in a unique, rural community in the Tonto National Forest in the eastern mountains of Arizona.

"OF RICE AND MEN", by Jimmy Walker

111 pages. Illustrated. With excellent cartoons by Fusilier Norman Lambert, produced whilst in captivity. Soft-back £5.00 (cover price £10.00)

An irreverent, left of centre, look at life as a POW by Jimmy Walker, who was captured by the Japanese following the fall of Singapore in 1942. Jimmy takes us through incarceration at the notorious Changi jail, forced labour on the railroad, and deportation to Japan, where the Japanese exploited the mining skills of the boys from Northumberland. Norman Lambert’s sketches are both amusing and frightening at the same time. Through the bitterness and resentment, and physical trauma of captivity shines the humour and the indomitable spirit of the British soldier. An enjoyable and educational read, with a surprise ending.

Prices include p&p. Payment can be made by credit or debit card. To order on line, log on to www.paypal.com and enter postmaster@gcartwright.demon.co.uk as payment destination.

"THE RAPE OF ZIMBABWE" by Ricky Wilson - which tells it like it was (and is)!

Rhodesia was once a prosperous and thriving country, and the story of the author's enterprising and entrepreneurial spirit in that land, followed by his desperate escape from the country when, as Zimbabwe, it became ruled by a tyrant, imparts a realistic perspective of the present desperate plight of many exiles from a country that was once a paradise and the breadbasket for so much of Africa.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW ?

No.110 : Mr. KARL ROOD of Durban.

Karl Rood was the younger brother of Mrs. Suzanne Smith (see obituary in the December 2000 edition of the SCN), and like her was very active in the Save Rhodesia Campaign/South Africa First Campaign, being Vice-Chairman of the Durban Branch of the organisation. Together with his daughters (who were then in their late teens - this being during the late 1970s) he staged a demonstration at the U.S. Information Service offices in Durban against the visit to South Africa of the trouble-making Sangford J. Unger of the shadowy "Carnegie Endowment for International Peace", a protest which gained prominent coverage in the Natal Mercury. We would very much like to learn what happened to Karl - as also his daughters.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR

TRADITIONAL MEDICINE

Sir,

All we hear from friends and family is the murders, robberies, rapes etc that happen on a daily basis in South Africa. A friend of mine lost her sister in the middle of August. She went to the Glynwood Nursing Home in Benoni with a severe ear-ache. They diagnosed her with meningitis. She was on the mend and was sent to the general ward. Not sure what happened there as she started vomiting within 3 days of being on the general ward. Within a week she was dead. She was 35 and she left behind a 14 year-old son from her first marriage and a baby of 6 weeks from her second marriage.

It makes you scared to think you are not even safe in hospital now. My husband's sister was telling me about a case in Boksburg where this woman went in for minor surgery, and when she woke up they had amputated her leg.

Yours etc.,

Andrie, Edmonton, Canada.

TYRANTS OF THE WORLD UNITE

Sir,

I entirely agree with Jim Nicholson MEP that the Zimbabwean President, Robert Mugabe, should not have been invited to the European Union/Africa summit in Lisbon. Things have come to a pretty pass when such a dictator, who has wreaked so much havoc and suffering in his own country once described as "the bread basket of Africa", should be free to hobnob with other heads of state and be at liberty to issue inflammatory statements when so many of his own people are constantly being tortured and denied any freedom to oppose his tyrannical government.

His presence at the Lisbon conference, as Jim Nicholson so rightly stated, is an affront to the innocent victims of his vicious brutal regime. I applaud the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, for his decision to boycott the summit over Mugabe's attendance. However like Mr. Nicholson I am at a loss to know why Baroness Amos, a Minister of State, was sent there to represent Gordon Brown. I just wonder if she enthusiastically supported the German Chancellor, who lashed out at Mugabe's policies in her speech. Sadly there are far too few heads of state, particularly on the African continent, prepared to condemn Mugabe and instead they try to play down his disgraceful conduct. The situation in his troubled land wasn't even on the summit agenda for discussion.

I am also appalled at the attitude adopted by the Anglican Bishop of Harare, who continues to support Mugabe's policies. Is this because he became the recipient of one of the hundreds of farms seized by the government from White farmers? Far too many African countries have still got corrupt rulers who still sympathise with Mugabe's views on former British colonial rule in Africa. It was good that such a high-powered person like the Church of England Archbishop of York, the Rev. John Sentamu, wasn't afraid to utterly condemn Mugabe.

Yours etc.,

Wilfred Breen, Omagh, Co.Tyrone, U.K.

[N.B. This letter was originally published in the (Belfast) Newsletter, but we have been specifically asked to re-publish it here.]

HERO OF OUR TIMES (1)

Sir,

Ian Smith has died. A great hero has passed away. I am deeply saddened.

Yours etc.,

Steve, Colorado, U.S.A.

---------------------------------------

HERO OF OUR TIMES (2)

Sir,

Former Prime Minister of Rhodesia, Ian Smith, has died aged 88. He made his Unilateral Declaration of Independence for Rhodesia on November 11th, 1965 and led a war on terror against ZAPU (Zimbabwe African Peoples Union led by Robert Mugabe) and ZANU (Zimbabwe African National Union led by Joshua Nkomo) for many years until sold out by Western governments.

A number of Australian and American Vietnam War veterans fought alongside the Rhodesians in the war as volunteers. The British Labour Government of Harold Wilson tried to get the RAF to take military action against the Ian Smith regime but the RAF refused. The Australian Government complied with UN trade sanctions against Rhodesia that were opposed by Country Party Minister for Territories Charles Barnes and veteran Liberal MP for Chisholm Sir Wilfred Kent-Hughes.

Unfortunately former terrorist Robert Mugabe is still alive.

Yours etc.,

Bob Vinnicombe, Sydney, Australia.

---------------------------------------

SCRAP METAL (9)

Sir,

Like you I'm also very upset at the idea of a statue of Mandela being erected in London, Perhaps somebody could wait till it is all quiet and then put an old car tire around it fill it with petrol and after setting it alight phone the press and tell them how necklacing was done to the young women of tribes who wouldn't bow to The ANC while he was its leader. Surely anyone else doing such things would qualify for a war-crime investigation?

Yours etc.,

Don, Natal, South Africa.

ROGUES GALLERY

In last month's edition of the SCN we stated that the anti-fascist magazine which had exposed Arthur Kemp's sinister connections was called "Spearhead". It has since been pointed out to us, however, that this was a mistake, and that the real title of the anti-fascist magazine in question was "Searchlight" - and furthermore that, ironies of ironies, "Spearhead" was actually the title of a now defunct overtly fascist journal! More recently we have also been informed that an article in a subsequent edition of "Searchlight" by David Williams provided further confirmation of Kemp's high-ranking involvement in the neo-fascist BNP outfit.

We would like to thank the supporter who has provided us with more information about the mysterious Brin Jenkins, the apparent lunatic who had suggested without any explanation whatsoever that the Springbok Club should be renamed the "Mugabe Supporters' Club", on the CDA's appalling discussion forum. Evidently this Jenkins idiot has stated elsewhere that he supports the BNP and is 72. It would seem therefore that the poor old fellow must be going gaga if he can make such a barmy unqualified suggestion - and furthermore it probably says a lot about the standard of intelligence of the average BNP supporter!

OBITUARY

BILL "LEAHOUND" BINDING

Bill "Leahound" Binding, who sadly died during November aged 82, was a great patriot and a man of deep religious faith. Although conceived in Scotland (his true surname was Campbell, only adopting the name of Binding after his mother re-married), Bill was actually born in Paddington, and spent most of his early life in London.

After serving in the Royal Corps of Transport during the tail-end of World War II and the early post-war years, he emigrated to South Africa during the late 1940s, and one of his fondest anecdotes was to tell of being at Johannesburg Central Station when the results of the NP triumph at the 1948 General Election were being posted up. After living a very exciting and adventurous life in South Africa he returned to the UK where he became a driver on the London Underground system. He married relatively late in life, but sadly they never had any children, and his wife died tragically of cancer at a cruelly early age.

It was only after the death of his wife and his retirement that Bill really came into his own however. He threw himself into patriotic activity, becoming an active member of his local Hackney Conservative Association (for whom he was still a keen leafletteer right up until his final year), the London Swinton Circle and the Springbok Club/ELC, and in all these organisations he proved to be totally dedicated and absolutely reliable in his support - indeed setting a fine example to other younger and far fitter activists! He was elected to the Executive Committee of the Springbok Club at first attempt, and proved to be an ideal addition to this body. His contributions to ExCo debates were always short, relevant and to the point. He accepted majority decisions without a murmur, and his total loyalty to his friends and colleagues on the Committee was legendary.

Our sincere and heartfelt sympathies are extended to his nephew John Pope at this time of great sadness for him. All the time that our race can continue to produce men like Bill Binding then we will have NOTHING to fear for the future.

Bill's ashes will be mingled with those of his wife and scattered over Hackney Marshes later this month.
