The result of the recent Northern Ireland Assembly elections, which saw the DUP emerging as the largest single party, and the overall Unionist vote increasing compared to the overall Nationalist vote, was a highly significant and highly encouraging event. When the subsequent defection of Jeffrey Donaldson and two elected colleagues from the UUP to the DUP is also taken into account then the situation gives even more reason for optimism concerning Ulster's future.
In spite of over three decades of attacks by terrorist scum and weakness on the part of their national leaders, the Ulster people have continued to display their traditional spirit of "No Surrender" and "Not an Inch", which has assured their survival and prosperity over the centuries. It is just a pity that their kith and kin in southern Africa couldn't have displayed the same spirit of defiance and determination when faced by the same twin enemies during the final three decades of the last century, in which case they would undoubtedly still control their own countries to this day.
But it is against the broader picture of worldwide developments that this electoral triumph should be viewed. Following the victory of the pro-monarchy forces in the Australian constitutional referendum, the overwhelming vote by the Gibraltar people to remain British, and perhaps most significantly of all the military triumphs of the Western nations in the War Against Terrorism in Afghanistan and Iraq, it shows that the pendulum of world history has well and truly swung, and that the British people around the world - and indeed the West in general - have awoken from their slumber and are now once again defending themselves and asserting their rights and natural position.
The "politically correct" days of the 1990s, and indeed the whole era of appeasement and surrender which typified the post-WWII years, are now a thing of the past. The future for the pan-British people therefore looks both bright and beckoning.

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S DAY OF THE VOW COMMEMORATIONS
The Springbok Club held what was probably their most successful Day of the Vow commemoration function ever at the end of 2003, when they were extremely honoured to welcome Mr. Andrew Hunter MP as their Guest of Honour. Mr. Hunter is of course the MP for Basingstoke, having been elected for the Conservative Party, though now sitting as an Independent Conservative following his decision to contest the recent Northern Ireland Assembly elections on behalf of the DUP, where he was only narrowly defeated in the Lagan Valley constituency. As well as being a good friend of Ulster he has also proved to be an extremely good and long-standing friend of South Africa, having sat on both the British-South Africa and the British-Bophuthatswana Parliamentary Groups. In his riveting speech Mr. Hunter recounted his own experiences from his many visits to South Africa, and told of the inspiration which he had gained both from the Battle of Blood River and from his trips to the Voortrekker Memorial in Pretoria.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB ACTIVITIES
The Springbok Club's 2004 AGM will be held on Saturday 17 January, and all fully paid-up members will have been informed of the precise details by now.
Unfortunately the Springbok Club's planned trip to the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum in Bristol during February has now had to be postponed until June. An alternative event for February involving a most interesting high-profile guest speaker is at the moment being finalised, and full details will be given in February's SCN.
On 21 April the Springbok Club will be joining forces with the London Swinton Circle and a number of other patriotic organisations to host a meeting to be addressed by Philip Benwell MBE, the Chairman of the "Australian Constitutional Monarchy League".
In May the Springbok Club will be holding their annual Empire Day Buffet, at which a prominent academic will be the Guest of Honour.

SPRINGBOK CLUB BRANCH ACTIVITIES
The Kent Branch of the Springbok Club will be staging a trip to the Zulu War “Special Living History Event” at the Royal Engineers Museum in Gillingham, to which all friends and supporters are invited to join them. Details are as follows:-
Date : Saturday 24th January 2004
Venue : The Royal Engineers Museum, Prince Arthur Road, Gillingham, Kent
Time : Assemble in the main foyer at approximately 12.00 noon.
[ There will be a charge of £5.00 to enter the museum (concession charge of £2.50), which of course should be paid directly to the museum on the day. If, however, a party of 10 or more is present then a group discount can be negotiated.]
This event is being staged to celebrate the 125th anniversary of the Battle of Rorke’s Drift, and will include a re-enactment of the drill and weaponry of the time by “The Die Hards” historical re-enactment society, models and dioramas by the Gravesham (Gravesend) Military Modelling Society, artefacts, militaria, films and sounds, and talks and discussions by experts on the Battles of Rorke’s Drift, Isandhlwana and Ulundi.
After the visit to the museum a convivial informal get-together will take place at the near-by King George V pub in Old Brompton (opposite the Main Gate and church of Chatham Historical Dockyard).

On Saturday 1st March the Chilterns Branch of the Springbok Club will be celebrating St. David's Day with an informal pub-gathering in High Wycombe.
Following a very pleasant and successful Yuletide social gathering shortly prior to the New Year, the London (Capital) Branch of the Springbok Club are planning a river trip along the Thames at Richmond during the spring.
Both the Northern Ireland and Sussex Branches of the Springbok Club are planning official inaugural meetings during the next few months. LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE EVENTS
The London Swinton Circle was most privileged to welcome Mr. Roger Gale MP, the Conservative MP for Thanet North, as their guest speaker in December. In a most enthralling address Mr. Gale, who was formerly a BBC producer, did not so much dwell upon the problems facing the country, but rather gave tips and advice about how Conservatives at grass-roots level could counteract these problems, particularly through media contact.

Margaret Peach (nee Pearce) was born in Pietermaritzburg and spent her early years on a farm at Winterton in Natal. After completing her training and travelling around Europe she accepted a nursing post in 1960 at Kariba Hospital in what was then Southern Rhodesia. There she met and married Tinkey Haslam, one of the game wardens involved in "Operation Noah", which was a huge exercise in nature conservation, rescuing animals as the waters of the Zambezi began to fill up the massive newly-constructed Kariba Dam.

The following document was produced by Dr Jan du Plessis a geostrategic analyst in Pretoria. I attended a conference in Pretoria in September 2003, where Dr du Plessis presented a most fascinating analysis of where he believes South Africa is going in the next ten years.
These documents below are open source documents from Dr du Plessis. As you will see, these are proper analyses aimed at management of companies who are in South Africa, or who may wish to invest here. These documents describe the major forces which Dr du Plessis believes will drive South Africa in the next decade.
The reason he calls this "Beyond Democracy" is because the major forces now taking control of South Africa are things which cannot be controlled at the ballot box any more.
Among the interesting things he told during his talk were the following :-
o AIDS is killing teachers faster than they are being trained
o 400,000 people out of 44 million pay 65% of the total taxes in the country
o AIDS killed 600,000 South Africans in 2002 and is expected to kill 700,000 in 2004.

FILM CIRCLE
Sir,
I went to the London Film Festival on October 28 and saw two documentaries, one after the other. The first was titled "Rhodesia Countdown", made in the late 1960s, and anti-Smith. The second was called "Zimbabwe Countdown", made recently, and anti-Mugabe. Both were made by Michael Readman who said that Zimbabwe was now in a "catastrophic state". He went on to say "Whatever Rhodesia's faults - I wouldn't have voted RF before 1977 - it did at least function!". What was that about a sinner who repenteth?
By the way, you'll be surprised(!) to know that he's found it difficult to get his new film shown in South Africa. SABC's been told not to show anything anti-Mugabe. I also expect you've heard the news from Namibia - or Zimbabwe Mark-2?

ROGUES GALLERY
We are most grateful to the supporter who sent us an article from the "Sunday Times" confirming that the rumours which we reported in the October 2003 edition of the SCN about Mr. Carl Werth joining the ANC were correct.
As we remarked on that occasion, Werth becomes the second former leading member of the Conservative Party to throw in his lot with the ANC, following the earlier revelation that former CP journalist Arthur Kemp was now aligned to the ANC. It is not known whether Werth and Kemp are directly connected in their defections, although they were both top English-speaking personalities in the CP at the same time during the late 1980s and early 1990s, and it is believed that they were in close contact at that time.
It was of course in the March 2000 edition of the SCN that we first exposed young Mr. Kemp's association with the ANC-controlled "new" South African security service in an article titled "The Plot Thickens", although it subsequently transpired that this revelation had earlier been reported in the "Mail & Guardian"! This resulted in a quite hysterical and paranoid reaction from young Mr. Kemp, in which he tried to smear one leading member of the Springbok Club with a number of easily disprovable lies.
At the time we were uncertain how young Mr. Kemp had become aware of this article as he was not on the SCN circulation list, but it was subsequently revealed that his source was an obscure Swedish individual by the name of Tommy Ryden, who was at the time on our circulation list, and who evidently was a close confident of young Mr. Kemp.
Ryden subsequently started circulating the same pathetic smears as Kemp, although he had never met the Springbok Club member in question, neither did he know anything about him!
We heard the rumour that Ryden had a criminal conviction in Sweden, though at the time we knew no details. A number of Swedish supporters have recently told us a few more facts about this Ryden character however, who is described as coming from "Planet Pluto". Evidently he did serve a prison sentence in Sweden for libel of a racial nature (whatever that might mean?), but in view of the very liberal nature of Swedish society it must have been something very extreme which Ryden had written in order to merit a prison sentence!
We wonder if the ANC hierarchy are aware of the weird and unsavoury nature of the overseas contacts of their new apparatchiks?

OBITUARY
MAURICE OWEN
It was with great sadness that we recently learnt of the death of Maurice Owen.
Maurice Owen was a former Natal Heavyweight Amateur Boxing champion, and after he retired from the ring became a renowned Boxing promoter, as well as running his own highly successful floor and wall tiling business in Durban. He was also a keen patron of the turf, and owned several race-horses.
Maurice was also a great South African patriot. He became actively involved in the Conservative Party and the Patriotic Forum during the late 1980s, and was also a greatly popular and much respected member of the Durban Parliamentary Debating Society, where he was elected "State President" in 1990.
Alas the demise of South Africa had a bad effect upon him, and his aim was constantly to be able to leave the country, but unfortunately his business commitments always prevented this. He was greatly encouraged to learn of the growing success of the Springbok Club, and was in regular written contact with S.A.Patriot-in-Exile magazine until a few years ago, when failing health alas meant that he was no longer able to correspond.
We extend our sincerest condolences to his wife Barbara and to the rest of his family. His memory will however live on, and will encourage us to re-double our efforts for the patriotic cause which he so believed in during the years to come.

South Africa's poor performance in the recent Rugby World Cup came as no great surprise.
The blame for this should not however be pinned upon Rudi Straeuli's notorious and bizarre "Kamp Staaldraad" boot-camp training methods, but more because of the rapid decline of South Africa as a nation and society.
The complete breakdown of law and order and infrastructure in South Africa has not only caused massive and increasing emigration from the country, particularly among the young, but has also meant that great dangers entail from merely venturing out of "fortress" homes at night, even to attend training sessions. As a result the potential "pool" of world-class players for the Springbok squad has diminished significantly.
From the dizzy heights of being World Cup winners (albeit controversially) on home soil in 1995, South Africa were eliminated in the semi-finals in 1999, and only reached the quarter-finals this year. In future competitions they will probably fare even more badly.
This is no idle speculation. Both South-West Africa and Rhodesia (when playing as provinces in the Currie Cup competition during the good old days) always fared well against visiting national touring sides. In this year's World Cup competition, however, SWA (now forced to play under the nomenclature of "Namibia") were slaughtered 142-0 by Australia. "Zimbabwe", moreover, didn't even qualify for the finals, losing out to such other traditional rugby powers as Georgia and Uruguay. South Africa's decline may not be so pronounced, but even so in the long-run is inevitable.
The only way by which the Springboks can return to rugby's elite is by the restoration of civilised rule in the country - but of course there are other far more important reasons apart from sporting excellence why this is essential.
Meanwhile President Chirac of France had the gall to claim that England's magnificent triumph in the competition was somehow "a victory for Europe". It was of course no such thing, but just as in all other Rugby World Cup competitions a victory for the British Commonwealth. If France had somehow beaten England in the semi-final then President Chirac should be assured that the vast majority of British rugby fans would have supported their Commonwealth brothers Australia in the final, rather than the French!

SPRINGBOK CLUB UDI DAY DINNER
This year's Springbok Club UDI Day Dinner proved to be an encouragingly successful occasion, with a high turnout and a most enjoyable atmosphere. The Guest of Honour, former Rhodesian cabinet minister the Hon. W. Denis Walker, gave an interesting and well-received after-dinner speach in which he outlined how he first became involved in Rhodesian politics and entered Parliament, and went on to tell something about his ongoing work for the Rhodesian cause through such organisations as the "Rhodesian Christian Group" and the "Zimbabwe-Rhodesia Relief Fund". Special thanks are due to Jim Sinclair who produced and presented a signed framed picture of the Hon. Ian Douglas Smith to Denis Walker, Joan Simpson who organised a magnificent bouquet of flowers for Mrs. Jill Walker, and Mike Harrison-Graeme who took a series of photographs of the event, one of which now appears on the Springbok Club web-site.

SPRINGBOK CLUB BRANCH ACTIVITIES
The London Branch of the Springbok Club is planning an informal Yuletide social gathering during the afternoon/early evening of Sunday 28th December. This will take place in the main bar of the Morpeth Arms, 58 Millbank, Westminster, London SW1, and it is anticipated that the visiting U.S. co-ordinator of the Springbok Club, Ferdi Fourie, will be in attendance.
The Kent Branch of the Springbok Club is planning a trip to a re-enactment of the Zulu Wars which will be taking place at Brompton Barracks, Gillingham, from 22nd to 25th January 2004. The precise date of the Springbok Club's visit has still to be finalised, but full details will be given in next month's SCN.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE EVENTS
The London Swinton Circle staged three most enlightening meetings last month, which were addressed respectively by John Whittingdale MP (the Shadow Cabinet spokesman for Media, Culture and Sport), the Rt. Hon. John Redwood MP (the former Secretary of State for Wales and Conservative Party leadership contender), and Mr. Nick Seaton (Chairman of the "Campaign for Real Education").
The most significant of these was probably that addressed by John Redwood MP, which was very well attended and illustrated by a "PowerPoint" display (copies of which are available from the LSC on request). Speaking on the theme of "Labour's constitutional vandalism and how to clear up the mess", Mr. Redwood demonstrated that threats to democracy and parliamentary government in the UK did not lie entirely from the European Union, but also from actions initiated by the Blair government, such as the rise of consultants and "spin doctors", the sidelining of Parliament and the growth of "quangos".

Roger Gale is the highly-respected Conservative member for Thanet North, having originally been elected in 1983 (when interestingly he defeated Cherie Blair). A former BBC producer (specialising in children's programmes, and having produced such series's as "Blue Peter"), he was appointed Deputy Chairman of the Conservative Party under Iain Duncan Smith. He sits on the Parliamentary Chairmen's Panel and on the Broadcasting Select Committee, and takes a keen interest in animal welfare, sporting and media affairs. He has a good "Euro-sceptic" voting record, and has twice introduced bills attempting to restore the death penalty.

CONSERVATIVE MONDAY CLUB MEETING
The Conservative Monday Club staged a most informative meeting last week which was addressed by Gregory Campbell MP, the DUP member for East Londonderry. Mr. Campbell spoke about the implications resulting from the recent Northern Ireland Assembly elections, and the significance of the DUP's triumph. His overall attitude was one of great optimism for the future, for, as he emphasised, not only had the DUP emerged as clearly the most dominant party of Unionism, thus putting a halt to Trimble's appeasement of SF/IRA, but also whereas the broad Nationalist vote had declined slightly, the broad Unionist vote had increased substantially.

Margaret Peach (nee Pearce) was born in Pietermaritzburg and spent her early years on a farm at Winterton in Natal. After completing her training and travelling around Europe she accepted a nursing post in 1960 at Kariba Hospital in what was then Southern Rhodesia. There she met and married Tinkey Haslam, one of the game wardens involved in "Operation Noah", which was a huge exercise in nature conservation, rescuing animals as the waters of the Zambezi began to fill up the massive newly-constructed Kariba Dam.

Jenny Toms came from Bulawayo and was once runner-up in the Miss Federation of Rhodesia and Nyasaland competition. After the fall of Rhodesia she moved to Natal, where she became active with both the Durban and Ballito/Stanger branches of the "Save Rhodesia Campaign". She was a highly successful P.R. woman, and had a son and two beautiful daughters. A number of people would very much like to know where she and her family members are now.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
BLACK WAVES
Sir,
Early every weekday morning two minitaxis (the local name for VW Combis) coast silently down the hill to a small thicket of pine trees not far from the nearest houses. The twenty or so Black occupants emerge, and sitting under the trees, devour their substantial breakfasts. They then arise, lock up the minitaxis, and splitting up into ten gangs set to work. Their prey is the many White housewives trying to get their children to school in time. They ring the bell, wield the knocker, then, if the door is not immediately opened, kick it hard. When opened they address the lady of the house in hoarse tones "I'm hungry!", repeated as necessary. The embattled housewife may give them a piece of bread and butter. Then it turns out they are thirsty as well. A glass of water is produced and spurned. They want tea! Contact having been made they now make it known that they want money. The housewife is by now terrified by these primitive louts. Once the money is in their pockets they take their departure without saying thanks or goodbye, and try their luck at the next house.
These Black tramps made their way to civilisation shortly after 1994. Prior to this there was hardly a Black to be seen in the Western Province. Many Whites think they would be better off where they came from. An idle dream brother. 'Here we are and here we stay. If the Whites don't like us so much the better.'
Naturally the situation could not be allowed to remain as it was. Appeals to authority drew the reply that these Blacks were simply exercising their democratic rights. Rights to do what were discreetly veiled. So those residents who could afford it raised huge walls not only in front of their houses but all round. But as Blacks can climb just as well as the marsupials they so closely resemble, great coils of razor-edge wiring had to be placed at the top of the wall. However only about half of the owners can afford such monstrosities as these walls. All the same, many houses once well known for their wonderful gardens are now secured from the public gaze by them.
H.G. Wells once told us that we were living in the best of all possible worlds. It is to be wondered what he would say were he living in it now!

HOWARD'S WAY
Sir,
You cannot possibly say that Michael Howard leans towards the Romanian political culture as opposed to the British political culture. Bernat Hecht escaped Romania in the 1930s as it was moving towards totalitarian rule. He believed Britain to be a beacon of freedom in a hostile and dark world. Michael Howard was born in Llanelli in 1941 and has never lived in Romania. He was a candidate for the Tory pary at Liverpool Edgehill in 1966 and 1970, so he has been a conservative for 40 years.
Personally, I have always enjoyed hearing Michael Howard speak and am willing him to give him the benefit of the doubt until proved otherwise. I did lose confidence in IDS myself. His mistakes continued well beyond his first year in office.

ROGUES GALLERY
It was with disbelief that we say the name of a certain John Hiddleston appearing as an official candidate for the Ulster Unionist Party in the Belfast South constituency during the recent Northern Ireland Assembly elections.
Long-standing subscribers to "S.A.Patriot" will undoubtedly remember Hiddleston's notorious name well. When the magazine was founded by the original "White Rhino Club" in 1980 none of the WRC ExCo members were in a position to take on the editorship officially, either because of their employment positions or because they were slating for South African citizenship. Two de facto editors were appointed however, an Afrikaans gentleman and a British emigrant who had been in South Africa for four years. Hiddleston had only arrived in the country a few weeks earlier, and was known to the British emigrant through their earlier mutual membership of the [British] National Front. At the time the NF had two distinct factions, a democratic wing that the British emigrant belonged to, and a neo-fascist wing that it transpired Hiddleston was associated with. As Hiddleston had previously been editor of the NF's Northern Ireland magazine "The British Ulsterman" he was therefore approached to become the nominal editor of "S.A.Patriot", a position which he readily accepted. Would-be power soon went to Hiddleston's head however. He unilaterally opened up a separate bank account for the magazine, with himself as sole signatory, independent of the WRC, which caused many misgivings. He also started to try to influence editorial decisions, becoming an "instant expert" in South African affairs after only being in the country for a few short months! Matters came to a head, however, when he bretrayed his neo-fascist sympathies by advocating that anti-Semitic items should be included in the magazine, an idea which was of course vetoed by the others on the editorial board. Shortly after this Hiddleston mysteriously disappeared down to Cape Town - and immeditately withdrew all of the magazine's funds from the bank account for his own personal use! To make matters worse he even issued a "bouncing" cheque to the magazine's printers! "S.A.Patriot" of course managed to survive this disaster, but Hiddleston sinisterly re-appeared in Durban a couple of years later, and attempted (unsuccessfully) to cause yet more troubles for the magazine.
It might be supposed that Hiddleston could have matured and moderated his views over the years, but we have recently learnt that he now edits a broadsheet called the "The Ulster Watchman" which has clear anti-Semitic undertones, albeit in the guise of anti-Israelism.
Quite clearly, therefore, the UUP's vetting processes must be non-existent, and they must be scrapping the bottom of the barrel if they are prepared to adopt a proven scumbag such as Hiddleston as one of their candidates. We advise all readers who may have any relevant contacts or influence to make these facts about Hiddleston's disreputable past known as widely as possible.

South Africa's poor performance in the recent Rugby World Cup came as no great surprise.
The blame for this should not however be pinned upon Rudi Straeuli's notorious and bizarre "Kamp Staaldraad" boot-camp training methods, but more because of the rapid decline of South Africa as a nation and society.
The complete breakdown of law and order and infrastructure in South Africa has not only caused massive and increasing emigration from the country, particularly among the young, but has also meant that great dangers entail from merely venturing out of "fortress" homes at night, even to attend training sessions. As a result the potential "pool" of world-class players for the Springbok squad has diminished significantly.
From the dizzy heights of being World Cup winners (albeit controversially) on home soil in 1995, South Africa were eliminated in the semi-finals in 1999, and only reached the quarter-finals this year. In future competitions they will probably fare even more badly.
This is no idle speculation. Both South-West Africa and Rhodesia (when playing as provinces in the Currie Cup competition during the good old days) always fared well against visiting national touring sides. In this year's World Cup competition, however, SWA (now forced to play under the nomenclature of "Namibia") were slaughtered 142-0 by Australia. "Zimbabwe", moreover, didn't even qualify for the finals, losing out to such other traditional rugby powers as Georgia and Uruguay. South Africa's decline may not be so pronounced, but even so in the long-run is inevitable.
The only way by which the Springboks can return to rugby's elite is by the restoration of civilised rule in the country - but of course there are other far more important reasons apart from sporting excellence why this is essential.
Meanwhile President Chirac of France had the gall to claim that England's magnificent triumph in the competition was somehow "a victory for Europe". It was of course no such thing, but just as in all other Rugby World Cup competitions a victory for the British Commonwealth. If France had somehow beaten England in the semi-final then President Chirac should be assured that the vast majority of British rugby fans would have supported their Commonwealth brothers Australia in the final, rather than the French!

SPRINGBOK CLUB UDI DAY DINNER
This year's Springbok Club UDI Day Dinner proved to be an encouragingly successful occasion, with a high turnout and a most enjoyable atmosphere. The Guest of Honour, former Rhodesian cabinet minister the Hon. W. Denis Walker, gave an interesting and well-received after-dinner speach in which he outlined how he first became involved in Rhodesian politics and entered Parliament, and went on to tell something about his ongoing work for the Rhodesian cause through such organisations as the "Rhodesian Christian Group" and the "Zimbabwe-Rhodesia Relief Fund". Special thanks are due to Jim Sinclair who produced and presented a signed framed picture of the Hon. Ian Douglas Smith to Denis Walker, Joan Simpson who organised a magnificent bouquet of flowers for Mrs. Jill Walker, and Mike Harrison-Graeme who took a series of photographs of the event, one of which now appears on the Springbok Club web-site.

SPRINGBOK CLUB'S DAY OF THE VOW COMMEMORATIONS
The Springbok Club will be holding its annual Day of Vow celebrations on the actual anniversary of the Battle of Blood River this year, December 16th, and are most honoured to be able to welcome as Guest of Honour Mr. Andrew Hunter MP. The details of this event are as follows:-

Times : Assemble from 17.30 hrs onwards, main activities to start at approx. 19.15 hrs.
Venue : The CLARENCE (the upstairs Function Room), 4 Dover Street, Mayfair, London W1 (just off Piccadilly - nearest underground station: Green Park).
Andrew Hunter has represented Basingstoke in Parliament since 1983, being elected for the Conservative Party, though now sitting as an Independent Conservative. He contested the recent Northern Ireland Assembly elections on behalf of the Democratic Unionist Party, only narrowly failing to gain a seat in the Lagan Valley constituency. As well as being a good friend of Ulster he has also proved to be a good and long-standing friend of South Africa, having sat on both the British-South Africa and the British-Bophuthatswana Parliamentary Groups.
A splendid array of buffet-snacks will be provided at this function, and admission charges will be £5.00 per head for Life, Honorary and Full Members of the Springbok Club, £7.50 per head for Associate Members, and £10.00 per head for non-members. Margaret Peach (nee Pearce) was born in Pietermaritzburg and spent her early years on a farm at Winterton in Natal. After completing her training and travelling around Europe she accepted a nursing post in 1960 at Kariba Hospital in what was then Southern Rhodesia. There she met and married Tinkey Haslam, one of the game wardens involved in "Operation Noah", which was a huge exercise in nature conservation, rescuing animals as the waters of the Zambezi began to fill up the massive newly-constructed Kariba Dam.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
BLACK WAVES
Sir,
Early every weekday morning two minitaxis (the local name for VW Combis) coast silently down the hill to a small thicket of pine trees not far from the nearest houses. The twenty or so Black occupants emerge, and sitting under the trees, devour their substantial breakfasts. They then arise, lock up the minitaxis, and splitting up into ten gangs set to work. Their prey is the many White housewives trying to get their children to school in time. They ring the bell, wield the knocker, then, if the door is not immediately opened, kick it hard. When opened they address the lady of the house in hoarse tones "I'm hungry!", repeated as necessary. The embattled housewife may give them a piece of bread and butter. Then it turns out they are thirsty as well. A glass of water is produced and spurned. They want tea! Contact having been made they now make it known that they want money. The housewife is by now terrified by these primitive louts. Once the money is in their pockets they take their departure without saying thanks or goodbye, and try their luck at the next house.
These Black tramps made their way to civilisation shortly after 1994. Prior to this there was hardly a Black to be seen in the Western Province. Many Whites think they would be better off where they came from. An idle dream brother. 'Here we are and here we stay. If the Whites don't like us so much the better.'
Naturally the situation could not be allowed to remain as it was. Appeals to authority drew the reply that these Blacks were simply exercising their democratic rights. Rights to do what were discreetly veiled. So those residents who could afford it raised huge walls not only in front of their houses but all round. But as Blacks can climb just as well as the marsupials they so closely resemble, great coils of razor-edge wiring had to be placed at the top of the wall. However only about half of the owners can afford such monstrosities as these walls. All the same, many houses once well known for their wonderful gardens are now secured from the public gaze by them.
H.G. Wells once told us that we were living in the best of all possible worlds. It is to be wondered what he would say were he living in it now!

HOWARD'S WAY
Sir,
You cannot possibly say that Michael Howard leans towards the Romanian political culture as opposed to the British political culture. Bernat Hecht escaped Romania in the 1930s as it was moving towards totalitarian rule. He believed Britain to be a beacon of freedom in a hostile and dark world. Michael Howard was born in Llanelli in 1941 and has never lived in Romania. He was a candidate for the Tory pary at Liverpool Edgehill in 1966 and 1970, so he has been a conservative for 40 years.
Personally, I have always enjoyed hearing Michael Howard speak and am willing him to give him the benefit of the doubt until proved otherwise. I did lose confidence in IDS myself. His mistakes continued well beyond his first year in office.

ROGUES GALLERY
It was with disbelief that we say the name of a certain John Hiddleston appearing as an official candidate for the Ulster Unionist Party in the Belfast South constituency during the recent Northern Ireland Assembly elections.
Long-standing subscribers to "S.A.Patriot" will undoubtedly remember Hiddleston's notorious name well. When the magazine was founded by the original "White Rhino Club" in 1980 none of the WRC ExCo members were in a position to take on the editorship officially, either because of their employment positions or because they were slating for South African citizenship. Two de facto editors were appointed however, an Afrikaans gentleman and a British emigrant who had been in South Africa for four years. Hiddleston had only arrived in the country a few weeks earlier, and was known to the British emigrant through their earlier mutual membership of the [British] National Front. At the time the NF had two distinct factions, a democratic wing that the British emigrant belonged to, and a neo-fascist wing that it transpired Hiddleston was associated with. As Hiddleston had previously been editor of the NF's Northern Ireland magazine "The British Ulsterman" he was therefore approached to become the nominal editor of "S.A.Patriot", a position which he readily accepted. Would-be power soon went to Hiddleston's head however. He unilaterally opened up a separate bank account for the magazine, with himself as sole signatory, independent of the WRC, which caused many misgivings. He also started to try to influence editorial decisions, becoming an "instant expert" in South African affairs after only being in the country for a few short months! Matters came to a head, however, when he bretrayed his neo-fascist sympathies by advocating that anti-Semitic items should be included in the magazine, an idea which was of course vetoed by the others on the editorial board. Shortly after this Hiddleston mysteriously disappeared down to Cape Town - and immeditately withdrew all of the magazine's funds from the bank account for his own personal use! To make matters worse he even issued a "bouncing" cheque to the magazine's printers! "S.A.Patriot" of course managed to survive this disaster, but Hiddleston sinisterly re-appeared in Durban a couple of years later, and attempted (unsuccessfully) to cause yet more troubles for the magazine.
It might be supposed that Hiddleston could have matured and moderated his views over the years, but we have recently learnt that he now edits a broadsheet called the "The Ulster Watchman" which has clear anti-Semitic undertones, albeit in the guise of anti-Israelism.
Quite clearly, therefore, the UUP's vetting processes must be non-existent, and they must be scrapping the bottom of the barrel if they are prepared to adopt a proven scumbag such as Hiddleston as one of their candidates. We advise all readers who may have any relevant contacts or influence to make these facts about Hiddleston's disreputable past known as widely as possible.

Although we have been criticised in the past for the prominence which we have given to internal British politics in the editorials of SCNs, we make no apology for dwelling upon the British Conservative Party's leadership problems in this month's edition. In spite of the current tenure of Tony Blair's "new" Labour Government, the Conservative Party is - and probably will always remain - the natural party of government in the UK, so therefore its future is of great importance to the entire Commonwealth, and the beleaguered brother nations of southern Africa in particular.
When Iain Duncan-Smith was elected Conservative Party leader barely two years ago he received the support of over 150,000 members, and defeated his final-round opponent Kenneth Clarke by a margin of 2 to 1. Now he has been deposed by merely 90 MPs with a majority of only 15. This is clearly unjust, and in itself will undoubtedly cause the Conservative Party great electoral harm.
To be sure, Iain Duncan-Smith made a number of bad mistakes during the early stages of his tenure as leader, but he equally clearly learnt from these mistakes, and at the time he was deposed was steering the Party back towards electoral popularity (indeed the final opinion poll under his leadership showed a lead of 5% over Labour). This publication gave its full support to him at the time of the 2001 leadership election, and remained loyal to him to the end.
The possibilities of the expected new Conservative Party leader, Michael Howard, maintaining the electoral popularity which Iain Duncan-Smith was slowly building up would seem to be remote. Famously described as "having something of the night about him" by Ann Widdecombe, and already dubbed "the Transylvanian Dracula" by the Daily Mirror, he will undoubtedly prove to be an electoral liability. The fact that he has Jewish blood in his veins is irrelevant in this respect. After all one of Britain's greatest ever Prime Ministers, Benjamin Disraeli, was Jewish - but Disraeli was clearly a British Jew whose ancestors had been in the country for generations. Howard [this is not his ancestral name] is a first generation immigrant from Romania however, who therefore can't fully appreciate British ideals and traditions. Although undoubtedly a very decent and talented man, his political aspirations would surely be better geared towards Bucharest rather than to London.
The Conservative Party does however still have many talented and charismatic Britons within its ranks who might still be able to lead them to victory at the next General Election - such titans as John Redwood, David Davis, Eric Forth, and even former leader William Hague. We can only hope that somehow one of these patriots manages to become leader of the Party in time.

SPRINGBOK CLUB OCTOBER MEETING
The Springbok Club was most privileged to be able to welcome Mrs. Maryna Blomerus, the founder and chairwoman of the Afrikaans cultural organisation "UKkasie", as guest speaker in October. In a highly informative and encouraging speech Mrs. Blomerus told how she had founded the organisation only three years ago after previously arranging trips to the UK by South African choirs and artists for church functions. So great has been the growth and success of "UKkasie" that they were now regularly attracting thousands of people to their various concerts featuring visiting South African bands and singers, the largest of which being their annual "UKkasiefees" held at the Wembley Exhibition Centre, involving not only musicians and stalls marketing South African-orientated goods and services, but also large-screen video-links to top Springbok rugby matches! She then went on to tell how similar structures had now also been established in New Zealand, Canada and Belgium to form the "InterAfrikaanse Trust", and of other future plans of the organisation, such as the staging of a South African film festival in London, and the "S.A. Expat Stem/Vote" campaign to extend the franchise to all South African expatriates.

SPRINGBOK CLUB UDI DAY DINNER
The Springbok Club is most proud to announce that the Guest of Honour at this year's annual UDI Day Dinner will be the Hon. W. Denis Walker.
Born in Britain, Mr. Walker was posted to South Africa as a pastor in the Methodist Church. He subsequently moved to Rhodesia where he became managing director and chairman of a large furniture manufacturing company in Bulawayo. After five years successfully restoring the company's fortunes he was appointed the financial director of a property company, and during this period also became the founder director of the "Tribal Trustland Development Corporation", whose task was to bring the rural African into a cash economy. In 1974 he was elected as Rhodesian Front MP for Bulawayo North, and in 1975 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. He subsequently served in the cabinets of both the Hon. Ian Douglas Smith ICD, OLM, and Bishop Abel Muzorewa, at various times holding the portfolios of Education, Mines, Local Government, Housing and Works. In spite of his busy political schedule he continued preaching for the Methodist Church, and also helped to rescue Rhodesia's first ever church, which was due to be demolished. Although he continued as an MP during the early few years of Mugabe's rule, the worsening political crisis forced him to seek exile in the UK in order to guard his own safety and that of his family. He initially worked as finance and administration officer for the "London Federation of Boys' Clubs", but then established his own property company which gave him a firm base to expand the work of the "Rhodesian Christian Group" and the "Zimbabwe-Rhodesia Relief Fund", both of which he is Director. He has also served on the committees of both the "Conservative Monday Club" and the "Constitutional Monarchy Association", as well as being instrumental in organising several trips to the UK by the Hon. Ian Douglas Smith ICD, OLM.
The dinner will take place during the evening of Saturday 15th November 2003 at a venue in Mayfair near to Green Park underground station (the exact location to be notified to all attendees in due course). This year the meal will consist of a high-quality buffet, with proceedings beginning at 18.00 hrs, the meal itself at approximately 19.00 hrs, and Mr. Walker's speech at 20.00 hrs.

FUTURE SPRINGBOK CLUB ACTIVITIES
On Tuesday 16th December the Springbok Club will be holding its traditional Day of the Vow Commemorations in central London, when the movement will be welcoming a prominent British MP as Guest of Honour. More precise details will be appearing in December's SCN.
The Springbok Club's 2004 AGM is due to take place in January, and in February 2004 the Springbok Club will be staging a visit to the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum in Bristol.

The Kent Branch of the Springbok Club is planning an informal pub-gathering at the "Jolly Knight" pub in Rochester High Street (approximately 10 minutes walk from Rochester Railway Station) durng the evening of Saturday 22nd November, commencing at approximately 17.00 hrs. All supporters and friends are invited to join the Kent Branch for this convivial event.
The London Branch of the Springbok Club is planning a Yuletide Social in central London, provisionally to be held during the week between Christmas and the New Year.
The Chilterns Branch of the Springbok Club is hopeful of staging another pub-gathering in High Wycombe early during 2004.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE EVENTS
The London Swinton Circle was addressed by Mr. Frank Maloney, the boxing manager and former amateur flyweight boxing champion, last month. Mr. Maloney has been adopted as official UKIP candidate for next year's London mayoral election, and gave a most interesting and at times highly amusing account of his background, and policies if elected.
The London Swinton Circle has three important meetings planned for November, the details of which are as follows:-
1) Monday 3rd November, Guest Speaker: Mr. John Whittingdale MP (Conservative MP for Maldon and Chelmsford East, Shadow Cabinet Spokesman for Media, Culture and Sport, and former political and private secretary to the Rt. Hon. Baroness Thatcher). Venue: the Grimond Room, Portcullis House, Westminster, London SW1. Time: 18.45 hrs for 19.00 hrs. Mr. Whittingdale will be speaking on the theme "Combatting BBC bias".
2) Tuesday 18th November, Guest Speaker: the Rt. Hon. John Redwood MP (Conservative MP for Wokingham, former Secretary of State for Wales, Conservative Leadership contender and probably the greatest parliamentarian of our age). Venue: the Attlee Suite, Portcullis House, Westminster, London SW1. Time: 18.45 hrs for 19.00 hrs. Mr. Redwood will be speaking on the theme "Labour's constitutional vandalism - a programme of action to repair the damage".
3) Tuesday 25th November, Guest Speaker: Mr. Nick Seaton (Chairman of the "Campaign for Real Education"). Venue: The Clarence (the upstairs Parliament Room), 53 Whitehall, London SW1. Mr. Seaton will be speaking on the theme "Recapturing control of our education system".

PHILIP BENWELL'S COMMONWEALTH CAMPAIGN
Philip Benwell MBE, the Chairman of the "Australian Constitutional Monarchy League", is mounting a campaign in Australia, Canada and New Zealand opposing the European Constitution on the basis that it has the potential to interfere with the sovereignty of these Commonwealth countries. He will be travelling to the UK next April primarily to encourage expatriates in the UK to be vocal in opposition to the European Union. Inter alia he will be holding a meeting in this regard at the House of Lords on 21st April 2004, which will be supported by both the Springbok Club and the London Swinton Circle. Provision has been made for only a limited number of guests to attend the meeting and interested persons are requested to book via email to secretary@monarchist.org.au

Christian DeFoe ran a superlative web-site called "Free Britannia" which championed British freedom and reported positively on all aspects of contemporary Britain, as well as providing links to a host of other patriotic organisations. Unfortunately it has apparently recently been closed down, and messages sent to the last known e-mail address (i.e. webmaster@freebritannia.co.uk) have all been returned as unrecognised. We do not know exactly where Christian was based, but would very much like to make contact with him again and to discover whether his site still exists. RIGHT TO DIE
Sir,
There are at least 1 million voices going up for re-instatement of the death penalty after the horrific hi-jacking, raping and killing of a grandmother, a mother, a 1 year old todler and a teenager outside of Pretoria in the recent past.
The re-instatement of the death penalty (which was abolished in 1995 by the constitution) is unlikely to happen for a number of reasons, i.e. negative connotation to the words "death" and "penalty", the government that is more interested in the "rights" of the criminal than in the "rights" of the victims of criminals, etc. etc.
But it can be done, if we can succeed to educate all of South Africa regarding the very same constitution that abolished the death penalty, and this is how:
Harmony exists where there is balance. As an example: You will experience harmony if you "balance" your apetite with a nice plate of food. While the whole world is so focussed on the "rights" issues of humans, animals and plant, I would like to make a huge effort in order to "expand" the right of the individual in South Africa. Therefore the "right to life", as per the constitution, should be balanced by the "right not to live".
If one wants to exercise your "right to life" then you should live a socially and morally acceptable lifestyle. If, however, you choose by your own free will to kill, rape, rob or push drugs, then any of those four actions should be a clear indication to the constitutional court that you expressedly want to exercise your "right not to live" and you should be given all the support that you need to do just that.
Open letters, marches, placards, threats, right-wing activities, press statements, etc. have had no effect whatsoever on the government of the day. I am in serious need of assistance to launch a nationwide campaign to get people to understand this, and to look at the alternative as proposed. We already have a non-profit organisation registered, and are carrying this message as far and as wide as possible.

VITAL STATISTICS

Out here things are beginning to get quite grim, with controlled access suburbs being made illegal in Johannesburg unless the residents pay thousands of Rands for an application fee, various studies, and provide crime statistics to prove the need for controlled access. Thus poor neighbourhoods are discriminated against, and the cherry on the cake is that the police refuse to provide the crime statistics, so one cannot apply.
You may be aware that crime statistics are now a state secret and may not be divulged to the public. Once a year we are told an aggregate figure for certain classes of crimes nationwide, e.g. murder, but therein lies a tale. The SA Medical Research Council recently made an unrelated study of the causes of death, and to their surprise, when dealing with violent deaths, found the SA Police were only recording as murders people who were already dead when they arrived, not those who died subsequently of their injuries. ROGUES GALLERY
It is not often that the true evil nature of the enemy is revealed openly for all to see, but this has recently happened to us.
A short while ago we received an e-mail from someone calling himself Erick Scholtz which recounted in gruesome detail a particularly horrific murder of a White farmer and his wife. This is not unusual of course, as we are often forwarded such reports to publicise overseas and to add to our "Latest News from South Africa" web-page. When we read the message in full, however, we were totally sickened, for this Scholtz character ended with the most wicked and callous phrase "Ek is jammer julle was nie daar om dit te sien nie. Die begrafnis was ook nogal pret" ("I am sorry you weren't there to see it. The funeral was also quite fun").
For anyone to be capable of making such a vile comment in relation to the brutal murder of two fellow human beings is sick and evil in the extreme. We do not know whether Erick Scholtz is the real name of this individual (though we somehow doubt it), nor what race he is (he wrote entirely in Afrikaans), but quite clearly he is a gloating supporter of the satanic murder campaign against White farmers currently taking place under the ANC regime. If anyone knows any further information about this Scholtz, and whether he has any direct connections to the ANC regime, then please let us know.

November 2003 edition
Although we have been criticised in the past for the prominence which we have given to internal British politics in the editorials of SCNs, we make no apology for dwelling upon the British Conservative Party's leadership problems in this month's edition. In spite of the current tenure of Tony Blair's "new" Labour Government, the Conservative Party is - and probably will always remain - the natural party of government in the UK, so therefore its future is of great importance to the entire Commonwealth, and the beleaguered brother nations of southern Africa in particular.
When Iain Duncan-Smith was elected Conservative Party leader barely two years ago he received the support of over 150,000 members, and defeated his final-round opponent Kenneth Clarke by a margin of 2 to 1. Now he has been deposed by merely 90 MPs with a majority of only 15. This is clearly unjust, and in itself will undoubtedly cause the Conservative Party great electoral harm.
To be sure, Iain Duncan-Smith made a number of bad mistakes during the early stages of his tenure as leader, but he equally clearly learnt from these mistakes, and at the time he was deposed was steering the Party back towards electoral popularity (indeed the final opinion poll under his leadership showed a lead of 5% over Labour). This publication gave its full support to him at the time of the 2001 leadership election, and remained loyal to him to the end.
The possibilities of the expected new Conservative Party leader, Michael Howard, maintaining the electoral popularity which Iain Duncan-Smith was slowly building up would seem to be remote. Famously described as "having something of the night about him" by Ann Widdecombe, and already dubbed "the Transylvanian Dracula" by the Daily Mirror, he will undoubtedly prove to be an electoral liability. The fact that he has Jewish blood in his veins is irrelevant in this respect. After all one of Britain's greatest ever Prime Ministers, Benjamin Disraeli, was Jewish - but Disraeli was clearly a British Jew whose ancestors had been in the country for generations. Howard [this is not his ancestral name] is a first generation immigrant from Romania however, who therefore can't fully appreciate British ideals and traditions. Although undoubtedly a very decent and talented man, his political aspirations would surely be better geared towards Bucharest rather than to London.
The Conservative Party does however still have many talented and charismatic Britons within its ranks who might still be able to lead them to victory at the next General Election - such titans as John Redwood, David Davis, Eric Forth, and even former leader William Hague. We can only hope that somehow one of these patriots manages to become leader of the Party in time.

SPRINGBOK CLUB OCTOBER MEETING
The Springbok Club was most privileged to be able to welcome Mrs. Maryna Blomerus, the founder and chairwoman of the Afrikaans cultural organisation "UKkasie", as guest speaker in October. In a highly informative and encouraging speech Mrs. Blomerus told how she had founded the organisation only three years ago after previously arranging trips to the UK by South African choirs and artists for church functions. So great has been the growth and success of "UKkasie" that they were now regularly attracting thousands of people to their various concerts featuring visiting South African bands and singers, the largest of which being their annual "UKkasiefees" held at the Wembley Exhibition Centre, involving not only musicians and stalls marketing South African-orientated goods and services, but also large-screen video-links to top Springbok rugby matches! She then went on to tell how similar structures had now also been established in New Zealand, Canada and Belgium to form the "InterAfrikaanse Trust", and of other future plans of the organisation, such as the staging of a South African film festival in London, and the "S.A. Expat Stem/Vote" campaign to extend the franchise to all South African expatriates.

SPRINGBOK CLUB UDI DAY DINNER
The Springbok Club is most proud to announce that the Guest of Honour at this year's annual UDI Day Dinner will be the Hon. W. Denis Walker.
Born in Britain, Mr. Walker was posted to South Africa as a pastor in the Methodist Church. He subsequently moved to Rhodesia where he became managing director and chairman of a large furniture manufacturing company in Bulawayo. After five years successfully restoring the company's fortunes he was appointed the financial director of a property company, and during this period also became the founder director of the "Tribal Trustland Development Corporation", whose task was to bring the rural African into a cash economy. In 1974 he was elected as Rhodesian Front MP for Bulawayo North, and in 1975 he was appointed Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs. He subsequently served in the cabinets of both the Hon. Ian Douglas Smith ICD, OLM, and Bishop Abel Muzorewa, at various times holding the portfolios of Education, Mines, Local Government, Housing and Works. In spite of his busy political schedule he continued preaching for the Methodist Church, and also helped to rescue Rhodesia's first ever church, which was due to be demolished. Although he continued as an MP during the early few years of Mugabe's rule, the worsening political crisis forced him to seek exile in the UK in order to guard his own safety and that of his family. He initially worked as finance and administration officer for the "London Federation of Boys' Clubs", but then established his own property company which gave him a firm base to expand the work of the "Rhodesian Christian Group" and the "Zimbabwe-Rhodesia Relief Fund", both of which he is Director. He has also served on the committees of both the "Conservative Monday Club" and the "Constitutional Monarchy Association", as well as being instrumental in organising several trips to the UK by the Hon. Ian Douglas Smith ICD, OLM.
The dinner will take place during the evening of Saturday 15th November 2003 at a venue in Mayfair near to Green Park underground station (the exact location to be notified to all attendees in due course). This year the meal will consist of a high-quality buffet, with proceedings beginning at 18.00 hrs, the meal itself at approximately 19.00 hrs, and Mr. Walker's speech at 20.00 hrs.

The Springbok Club's 2004 AGM is due to take place in January, and in February 2004 the Springbok Club will be staging a visit to the British Empire and Commonwealth Museum in Bristol.

All supporters and friends are invited to join the Kent Branch for this convivial event.
The London Branch of the Springbok Club is planning a Yuletide Social in central London, provisionally to be held during the week between Christmas and the New Year.
The Chilterns Branch of the Springbok Club is hopeful of staging another pub-gathering in High Wycombe early during 2004.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE EVENTS
The London Swinton Circle was addressed by Mr. Frank Maloney, the boxing manager and former amateur flyweight boxing champion, last month. Mr. Maloney has been adopted as official UKIP candidate for next year's London mayoral election, and gave a most interesting and at times highly amusing account of his background, and policies if elected.
The London Swinton Circle has three important meetings planned for November, the details of which are as follows:-
1) Monday 3rd November, Guest Speaker: Mr. John Whittingdale MP (Conservative MP for Maldon and Chelmsford East, Shadow Cabinet Spokesman for Media, Culture and Sport, and former political and private secretary to the Rt. PHILIP BENWELL'S COMMONWEALTH CAMPAIGN
Philip Benwell MBE, the Chairman of the "Australian Constitutional Monarchy League", is mounting a campaign in Australia, Canada and New Zealand opposing the European Constitution on the basis that it has the potential to interfere with the sovereignty of these Commonwealth countries. He will be travelling to the UK next April primarily to encourage expatriates in the UK to be vocal in opposition to the European Union. Inter alia he will be holding a meeting in this regard at the House of Lords on 21st April 2004, which will be supported by both the Springbok Club and the London Swinton Circle. When we read the message in full, however, we were totally sickened, for this Scholtz character ended with the most wicked and callous phrase "Ek is jammer julle was nie daar om dit te sien nie. Die begrafnis was ook nogal pret" ("I am sorry you weren't there to see it. The funeral was also quite fun").
For anyone to be capable of making such a vile comment in relation to the brutal murder of two fellow human beings is sick and evil in the extreme. We do not know whether Erick Scholtz is the real name of this individual (though we somehow doubt it), nor what race he is (he wrote entirely in Afrikaans), but quite clearly he is a gloating supporter of the satanic murder campaign against White farmers currently taking place under the ANC regime. If anyone knows any further information about this Scholtz, and whether he has any direct connections to the ANC regime, then please let us know.

The recent overwhelming decision by the Swedish people to keep the Krona as their national currency and to reject the Euro was not only good news for the Swedish people themselves, but also for all who believe in the authority of the great European nation states. It was furthermore further proof of how the political pendulum has swung away from internationalism and towards Western national power over the past few years.
In spite of predictions that the referendum result would be close, the final margin was actually a decisive 8%. Many Leftist commentators claimed that the assassination of Swedish foreign minister Anna Lindt shortly before the referendum had no effect upon the outcome, but this of course is complete rubbish. There was undoubtedly a massive sympathy "Yes" vote for Anna Lindt - and the victory margin for the "No" campaign would without question have been even larger if it had not been for her death.
Although it is commonly believed that Sweden - along with other Scandinavian countries - is a very Left-wing society, the recent referendum result proves that this is not the case. This does not really surprise us however, for when "S.A.Patriot" was published in South Africa itself we had more subscribers from Sweden than from any other European country (excluding the UK). Furthermore, Denmark had earlier decisively rejected the Euro in a national referendum, and - smallscale though it may have been - played their part alongside Britain and the United States in the liberation of Iraq.
Another interesting but little known fact is that in spite of never being one of the major Imperial powers, Sweden still possessed 10 overseas colonies at various times dating back to the 18th century. With the recent Swedish referendum result being yet another nail in the coffin of European federalism the nation states of Europe must once again start to look towards their global responsibilities and destinies, and when that time comes Sweden - as well as Denmark - must also be rewarded with their places in the sun.

SPRINGBOK CLUB LONDON BRANCH SOCIAL GATHERING
The London Branch of the Springbok Club held a most enjoyable and highly successful social get-together at Richmond last month.
Assembling at the famous "Orange Tree" pub there was a very good turnout of supporters, and after a couple of hours socialising in a convivial atmosphere many of the party then set off on a stroll along the banks of the Thames, witnessing what must be some of the most magnificent scenery that can be observed in the capital.
The London Branch plans to hold a further social event over the Yuletide period, to be followed by a boat trip along the Thames at Richmond in the spring.

The Springbok Club will be holding an important and interesting meeting at the end of October, which will be addressed by Mrs. Maryna Blomerus, the founding Chairperson of UKkasie and the InterAfrikaanse Trust. The details are as follows:-

Maryna Blomerus was born at Middelburg in the Cape Province, and studied accountancy at UNISA. Married with two young daughters she has lived in the UK for 10 years, and in 2001 founded UKkasie, a cultural organisation for expat Afrikaners living in the UK. The organisation holds quarterly UKkasiefees featuring visiting Afrikaner singers and musicians, as well as hosting stalls marketing various South African-orientated products and services. So great has been the success of the organisation that similar structures have been founded in Canada, New Zealand and Belgium, which now form the InterAfrikaanse Trust. In her speech Maryna will talk about the foundation and growth of both UKkasie and the InterAfrikaanse Trust, as well as their current campaign in conjunction with the Freedom Front to extend voting rights to South Africans living in exile.

LONDON SWINTON CIRCLE MEETING
The London Swinton Circle held a most important and well-attended meeting last month which was addressed by Jeffrey Donaldon MP (UUP, Lagan Valley) in which he explained his reasons for resigning the UUP parliamentary whip, and gave details about the current problems being faced by the Unionist community in Northern Ireland. He finished on a very optimistic note however, emphasising that the Republican birthrate was no longer higher than the Unionist birthrate, and telling how increasing numbers of Unionists were returning to their previous homes in the western counties of Ulster.
The London Swinton Circle will be holding a further most interesting meeting early next week, the details of which are as follows:-

Mr. MALCOLM WREN
In the August edition of the SCN we had the sad duty of explaining why the Springbok Club was forced to withdraw all support from Mr. Malcolm Wren's "Soul Walk" across southern England.
There we assumed, and certainly hoped, the whole sorry saga would end. Unfortunately, however, we have recently been informed that Mr. Wren has subsequently made a posting to a certain Internet message-board in which he not only fails to apologise for all the ill-feeling and embarrassment which he generated, but even tries to pin blame for all the problems which befell his "Walk" onto the victims of his actions.
We will not bore readers by going into detailed rebuttals of all the charges made by Mr. Wren in this factional posting of his, but there is one downright lie which he made which cannot pass without comment. He claims that the Chairman of the Springbok Club has accused him of undertaking the exercise "for personal recognition" (indeed in a hurtful personal e-mail he even claims of the Chairman "You say I am only doing this to impress the people of Orania"). There is of course not a scintilla of truth in this bizarre accusation of Mr. Wren. We have never stated that he undertook the "Walk" for "personal recognition" - and most certainly we have never mentioned the Orania community in this context! Our reasons for withdrawing support were solely and unambiguously as stated in the August edition of the SCN, namely:-
1) The total abuse of the free hospitality which was provided by the owner of the hotel in Gloucestershire where Mr. & Mrs. Wren and their party stayed on the night before the "Walk" began, which caused her great distress.
2) The arbitrary alteration of venues for overnight stops along the route with no attempts being made to inform the Springbok Club or anybody else in advance about these changes. This resulted in at least two supporters (probably more) going to the wrong venues in order to rendezvous with Mr. Wren.
3) The arrogant rejection of all offers to assist in the obtaining of media publicity and a venue for a final rendezvous point in Gravesend by Mrs. Wren.
4) The rude last-minute cancellation of the lunchtime refreshment break which we had organised at the house of a personal friend in north-west Kent after preparations had already commenced.
The reason for Mr. Wren's sudden antagonism towards those who were trying to assist him, and the reason why he failed to obtain any media publicity in the UK remain a complete mystery. A clue may however lie in a further comment which he makes in his factional posting, when he states "En-route, I had numerous phone calls and text messages from people in the UK .... Almost all came from the BNP (British National Party) members .... and I thank each one of them." (Indeed prominent publicity for Mr. Wren's "Walk" evidently also appeared on the BNP's web-site). As many readers may know, the BNP is in reality an overtly neo-fascist organisation, and this may be why the British media wouldn't touch Mr. Wren with a bargepole. There have also been a couple of attempts by BNP-types to infiltrate the Springbok Club in the past, but when their affiliations became known they were "sent packing", which has probably made the BNP very antagonistic towards the Springbok Club.
We will therefore leave it to readers to make up their own minds about Mr. Wren and his true motivations.

They were last seen in a resort on the East Cape coast near Port Elizabeth in about 1995. Richard was originally from Hampshire but Lynn was a South African.

Sir,
Now Malcolm Wren's Soul Walk. You really would have done well to steer very clear of this scheme as he was not a member of the Club and his reasons were all a bit vague, as he was not really sure, I'm sure, why he was actually doing the walk.
When I heard the full details of how he and his supporters behaved, especially at places where they were kind enough to give them free bed and board, I lost all sympathy for him. He reminded me of way back in the 1950s when I had a wife and family and we had the odd (some very odd) characters turning up at the house, politicals who we used to call laughingly the "Wandering Storm Troopers" to scrounge a meal and a bed. Their excuse was they couldn't get a job because of their politics, but usually because they were workshy. Anyway my wife fed them, sewed on the odd button, washed a pair of socks and they went on their way next day with a few shillings I could spare out of my bus driver's £8 a week wage.
But Wren's attitude of complaining about his room then turning up with supporters who also expected the "free" treatment, including steak with breakfast and no bill for their drinks, what a lot of bums - especially as there was a complimentary bottle of South African wine in the room! And finally to end the "Walk" one day in a taxi, which really does rub it in doesn't it?
Wren really has some nerve, even if I was doing something for the best cause in the world I'd never have the nerve (or courage) to ask for free food, bed and drinks. If I was offered any of these I would go out of my way to show my appreciation, not be rude, even if the bed was not up to my expectations.

ROGUES GALLERY
We have recently heard the most disturbing and almost unbelievable rumour that Mr. Carl Werth has joined the ANC.
Carl Werth was leader of the Conservative Party in Natal during the late 1980s and early 1990s, and was also a close friend of the Patriotic Forum (which can be considered as the predecessor of the Springbok Club). He actually addressed the Patriotic Forum in 1989, when he gave a masterful and indeed inspiring speech in which he emphasised how, in spite of paying "lip service" to the support of Black majority rule in South Africa, the powers-that-be in the West actually hoped for continuing White civilised rule, as they realised this was the only way of preserving order and good governance in that most strategic part of the world.
After the ANC gained control of the country following de Klerk's sell-out Werth was surprisingly appointed South African ambassador to Singapore (this being part of the ANC's initial scheme to hand out "perks" to members of all political parties - the CP's Tom Langley was also appointed ambassador to the Czech Republic at the same time), and his acceptance of this post raised many misgivings. After his return to South Africa, however, Werth joined the Democratic Party, which wasn't really surprising in view of the decline of the CP and the DP's significant move to the right of the political spectrum - but if true his subsequent defection to the enemy itself - the ANC - defies comprehesion.
If confirmed to be correct then Werth becomes the second previous right-wing activist in South Africa to have betrayed his principles, for it was exposed a few years ago that Arthur Kemp had also sold-out to the ANC.
Can anyone confirm this story about Carl Werth we wonder, and does anyone know of any connection between him and Kemp?

The London Swinton Circle held a most important and well-attended meeting last month which was addressed by Jeffrey Donaldon MP (UUP, Lagan Valley) in which he explained his reasons for resigning the UUP parliamentary whip, and gave details about the current problems being faced by the Unionist community in Northern Ireland. He finished on a very optimistic note however, emphasising that the Republican birthrate was no longer higher than the Unionist birthrate, and telling how increasing numbers of Unionists were returning to their previous homes in the western counties of Ulster.
The London Swinton Circle will be holding a further most interesting meeting early next week, the details of which are as follows:-

Guest Speaker : Mr. Frank Maloney
Frank Maloney is a former amateur flyweight boxing champion, but rose to prominence as the manager of many successful British professional boxers. He will be the official UKIP candidate in next year's London mayoral election, and he will give his views regarding the problems being faced by Londoners on such matters as non-White immigration, the cost of living, transport, the threat of terrorism and "politically correct" policing.

Mr. MALCOLM WREN
In the August edition of the SCN we had the sad duty of explaining why the Springbok Club was forced to withdraw all support from Mr. Malcolm Wren's "Soul Walk" across southern England.
There we assumed, and certainly hoped, the whole sorry saga would end. Unfortunately, however, we have recently been informed that Mr. Wren has subsequently made a posting to a certain Internet message-board in which he not only fails to apologise for all the ill-feeling and embarrassment which he generated, but even tries to pin blame for all the problems which befell his "Walk" onto the victims of his actions.
We will not bore readers by going into detailed rebuttals of all the charges made by Mr. Wren in this factional posting of his, but there is one downright lie which he made which cannot pass without comment. He claims that the Chairman of the Springbok Club has accused him of undertaking the exercise "for personal recognition" (indeed in a hurtful personal e-mail he even claims of the Chairman "You say I am only doing this to impress the people of Orania"). There is of course not a scintilla of truth in this bizarre accusation of Mr. Wren. We have never stated that he undertook the "Walk" for "personal recognition" - and most certainly we have never mentioned the Orania community in this context! Our reasons for withdrawing support were solely and unambiguously as stated in the August edition of the SCN, namely:-
1) The total abuse of the free hospitality which was provided by the owner of the hotel in Gloucestershire where Mr. & Mrs. Wren and their party stayed on the night before the "Walk" began, which caused her great distress.
2) The arbitrary alteration of venues for overnight stops along the route with no attempts being made to inform the Springbok Club or anybody else in advance about these changes. This resulted in at least two supporters (probably more) going to the wrong venues in order to rendezvous with Mr. Wren.
3) The arrogant rejection of all offers to assist in the obtaining of media publicity and a venue for a final rendezvous point in Gravesend by Mrs. Wren.
4) The rude last-minute cancellation of the lunchtime refreshment break which we had organised at the house of a personal friend in north-west Kent after preparations had already commenced.
The reason for Mr. Wren's sudden antagonism towards those who were trying to assist him, and the reason why he failed to obtain any media publicity in the UK remain a complete mystery. A clue may however lie in a further comment which he makes in his factional posting, when he states "En-route, I had numerous phone calls and text messages from people in the UK .... Almost all came from the BNP (British National Party) members .... and I thank each one of them." (Indeed prominent publicity for Mr. Wren's "Walk" evidently also appeared on the BNP's web-site). As many readers may know, the BNP is in reality an overtly neo-fascist organisation, and this may be why the British media wouldn't touch Mr. Wren with a bargepole. There have also been a couple of attempts by BNP-types to infiltrate the Springbok Club in the past, but when their affiliations became known they were "sent packing", which has probably made the BNP very antagonistic towards the Springbok Club.
We will therefore leave it to readers to make up their own minds about Mr. Wren and his true motivations.

Richard & Lynn Blyth had four children named Wendy, Michael, Christopher & Caroline. They were the owners/managers of "Rivermead Manor", a guest farm near Kokstad, Natal, on the South African/Transkei border until about 1993. They were last seen in a resort on the East Cape coast near Port Elizabeth in about 1995. Richard was originally from Hampshire but Lynn was a South African.

The recent attacks upon the the Chairman of the Springbok Club on the CensorBugBear web-site, aptly named I think, by Wren and his minions were a disgrace. They improperly called for his expulsion from the Club of which he was a key founder member. Wren is not a member of the Springbok Club and is in no position to involve himself in its internal processes.

Sir,
Now Malcolm Wren's Soul Walk. You really would have done well to steer very clear of this scheme as he was not a member of the Club and his reasons were all a bit vague, as he was not really sure, I'm sure, why he was actually doing the walk.
When I heard the full details of how he and his supporters behaved, especially at places where they were kind enough to give them free bed and board, I lost all sympathy for him. He reminded me of way back in the 1950s when I had a wife and family and we had the odd (some very odd) characters turning up at the house, politicals who we used to call laughingly the "Wandering Storm Troopers" to scrounge a meal and a bed. Their excuse was they couldn't get a job because of their politics, but usually because they were workshy. Anyway my wife fed them, sewed on the odd button, washed a pair of socks and they went on their way next day with a few shillings I could spare out of my bus driver's £8 a week wage.
But Wren's attitude of complaining about his room then turning up with supporters who also expected the "free" treatment, including steak with breakfast and no bill for their drinks, what a lot of bums - especially as there was a complimentary bottle of South African wine in the room! And finally to end the "Walk" one day in a taxi, which really does rub it in doesn't it?
Wren really has some nerve, even if I was doing something for the best cause in the world I'd never have the nerve (or courage) to ask for free food, bed and drinks. If I was offered any of these I would go out of my way to show my appreciation, not be rude, even if the bed was not up to my expectations.

ROGUES GALLERY
We have recently heard the most disturbing and almost unbelievable rumour that Mr. Carl Werth has joined the ANC.
Carl Werth was leader of the Conservative Party in Natal during the late 1980s and early 1990s, and was also a close friend of the Patriotic Forum (which can be considered as the predecessor of the Springbok Club). He actually addressed the Patriotic Forum in 1989, when he gave a masterful and indeed inspiring speech in which he emphasised how, in spite of paying "lip service" to the support of Black majority rule in South Africa, the powers-that-be in the West actually hoped for continuing White civilised rule, as they realised this was the only way of preserving order and good governance in that most strategic part of the world.
After the ANC gained control of the country following de Klerk's sell-out Werth was surprisingly appointed South African ambassador to Singapore (this being part of the ANC's initial scheme to hand out "perks" to members of all political parties - the CP's Tom Langley was also appointed ambassador to the Czech Republic at the same time), and his acceptance of this post raised many misgivings. After his return to South Africa, however, Werth joined the Democratic Party, which wasn't really surprising in view of the decline of the CP and the DP's significant move to the right of the political spectrum - but if true his subsequent defection to the enemy itself - the ANC - defies comprehesion.
If confirmed to be correct then Werth becomes the second previous right-wing activist in South Africa to have betrayed his principles, for it was exposed a few years ago that Arthur Kemp had also sold-out to the ANC.
Can anyone confirm this story about Carl Werth we wonder, and does anyone know of any connection between him and Kemp?
